WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR NOVEMBER 2023

Luckily, our phones and tablets always know what time it is, both where we are, and anywhere in the world. I have some of your locations marked on my World Clock on my tablet.
I haven't had a dryer for nearly 30 years. Things do take an age to dry in the damp weather, which can be annoying. I hang stuff in the utility room on an overhead rack, on a pulley, and I air stuff in the dining room. Sheets etc I air on the banister rail upstairs. Fortunately, DH and I wear our clothes, apart from underwear, for several days, and sheets etc I change infrequently. But , like Machka says, I do have to plan a few days in advance. We have guests next weekend, so I have washed the towelling robes that I like to put out for them, and the bathroom mats. Electricity is hugely expensive these days in the UK. Plus I want to use as little energy as possible in general.
My kitchen sink is looking much nicer now. I have a matt black dish soap dispenser, and I've bought new dark grey microfiber cloths. Next time I will buy cotton ones, because microfiber are extremely bad for the environment. I wasn't thinking. Anyway, it pleases me to look more coordinated. DH thinks I'm bonkers. If he would put things away, it wouldn't matter, but I don't think I can retrain him now. So a colour match is the next best thing. My eye is easily offended.

I always have the times for 3 locations on my laptop ... Hobart, Vancouver and one other.
But since we were in Canada for a lengthy time, I changed them. I've reset them now to include Auckland, so I know where I am right now.
My phone has been showing me Hobart and Vancouver this past month.
But it doesn't feel like 8:30 pm ... especially since the sun only just set! I got used to the sun setting earlier and earlier in Canada.
I'm not one to check the time a lot ... I tend to go by feel. I quit wearing a watch one day in 1997, and just starting figuring out the time in other ways. I'm rarely late.
Machka ... somewhere in the world!

1. Make a list of new things you want to do this month.
I have a massive list of things to do. Always. I'm never bored.
In November, however, we're organising a cycling event mid-month, and then there's another one right at the beginning of December.
My garden needs mid-spring work.
I need more mid-spring exercise.
Lots of things!!
2. Respond to a difficult situation in a different way.
I try things ... and then I go to Google to find different things to try.
3. Get outside and observe the changes in nature around you.
I am outside whenever I can. Love nature! And one really nice thing about returning to Tasmania is that we're going into summer.
4. Sign up to join a new course, activity, or online community.
How about I just finish the course I started some time ago.
5. Change your normal routine today and notice how you feel.
My November 5th didn't exist. How's that for a changed routine!
6. Try out a new way of being physically active.
Today, my physical activity was standing in line and walking.
7. Be creative. Cook, draw, write, paint, make or inspire.8. Plan a new idea or activity you want to try out this year.
16. When you feel you can’t do something, add the word ‘yet’.
17. Be curious, learn about a new topic or an inspiring idea.
18. Choose a different route and see what you notice on the way.
19. Find out something new about someone you care about.
20. Do something playful outdoors - walk, run, explore, relax.
21. Find a new way to help or support a cause you care about.
22. Build on new ideas by thinking “yes, and what if…”
23. Look at life at someone else’s eyes and see their perspective.
24. Try a new way to practice self-care and be kind to yourself.
25. Connect with someone from a different generation.
26. Broaden your perspective: read a different paper, magazine, or site.
27. Make a meal using a recipe or ingredient you haven’t used before.
28. Learn a new skill from a friend or share one of yours with them.
29. Find a new way to tell someone you appreciate them.
30. Set aside a time to pursue an activity your love.
31. Share with a friend something useful you learned recently.
32. Use one of your strengths in a new and creative way.
33. Try out a different radio station or new TV show.
34. Join a friend doing a hobby and find out why they love it.
35. Discover your creative side. Design a friendly greeting card.
36. Enjoy new music today. Play, sing, dance or listen.
37. Look for new reasons to be hopeful, even in tough times.

The Trip - Part 1
Roughly about 3 months ago, things fell into place to allow us to leave Tasmania sometime. About the same time, a work friend of mine mentioned that he and his wife were planning their first trip to Europe since COVID to see her parents and do a bit of travelling. I mentioned what was just an idea at that time ... that we might finally be able to go and see my family.
That set things off.
In a very short period of time, I had a massive list of things to do and was adding to it every day. My work friend loves researching things ... especially things like travel plans ... so he was a great help to me and we reminded each other to check on this or that, suggested options, etc..
My list continued to grow .... and before I knew it, a concrete plan was beginning to form.
It had been 6 years since we had travelled, really travelled, so I was rusty at the whole process AND things have changed with my husband so we couldn't travel like we used to do.
We used to do long-haul flights where we'd be either in transit or waiting in an airport for 30+ hours. Obviously we couldn't do that now, so I had to break the trip up. Not easy when there's a whole Pacific Ocean with not a lot of islands in it ... and when some of the Hawaiian airports weren't taking their usual number of flights because of the fires there.
We also never used to care where our seats were and we could be crammed in anywhere ... but with my husband's situation, I knew we needed extra room and privacy.
There were so many things like that I had to take into consideration.
So that kept me busy this winter.
Plus in the midst of all the travel planning, I applied for a job I was kind of interested in, and ended up getting an interview. I placed a close second for the position, and that was OK with me. It gave me a chance to get my CV etc. up to date.
I had a really busy winter!!
And now, I'm thinking about sleep again.

Today’s gratitude: electricity and internet . Misty stroll with Joe and the dogs to the mailbox.
Belated happy birthday Ginny and to JanetR wherever you are.
Lanette, talking faster when Joe’s done listening doesn’t work for us. I’ve learned to edit what I need him to hear down to no more than three bullet points, then stop talking. ‘Nother reason I’m so thankful for all the wise women here. Here I can express myself in my comfortable pattern, start at the beginning, build the details to whatever conclusion. Doesn’t work with Joe ;}
Rosemare you are doing a great fostering job. Those are some lucky pups!
Welcome @mwalley67 ! Lots of encouragement here. When activity is hard, baby steps are best. Any little bit you can do gets the blood flowing and lubricates the joints. When I really don’t want to get up out of my chair, music helps me to move. We’re with you!
Attagal Annie!
Heather how frustrating for you not to be able to walk/run your usual. Seems like the hips and/or thigh have been troublesome quite awhile. Is Physical Therapy a possibility?

Karen - I was so mesmerised by the video that I forgot to say how much I appreciated it. I find it so amazing when we see those bright-eyed children. HUGS
I took the last of my antibiotics this morning. My whole digestive system is out of whack, and I'm sure the joint pain and stiffness are due to my microbiome being decimated. It should bounce back in a few days.
Tonight is halloumi curry, and I'm popping out in a minute to buy tomatoes, and spinach if they've got any on a Monday morning. Delivery days are Tuesday and Friday. I'm going to add some cauliflower today, because we have one in the fridge.
The sun is shining and we have no wind!!!
I still feel in resting/waiting mode. And that's fine. I'm listening.

Good morning ladies!
I'm up at 5 am, must be the morning after time change.
Annie in Delaware4 -
Good morning,
Tracey Forgot to say I love the little houses. You are so crafty.
Allie lforgot to hit save on my last post before changing pages!
Karen Thank you for sharing. Hugs continue.
Barbie Thank you for the compliment. I don't feel organized about most things, but continue to improve.
Barbara I don't normally mow as I have no time. We have someone to do it until fall. My SIL said she was shocked to see me on the mower-grumble. I should have said ....if I could leave work early, I would do it more often. But nope, I said I love to mow but DH wants to do other things when we are off. When not cutting up leaves it takes me about 2 hours on the zeroturn. It took me over twice that long as I go backwards over the leaves then back over same row to shred them further. That method leaves very little leaf debris on grass.
Machka I am so happy that you got to visit family! I know you have been longing to for awhile. Your organization and attention to detail amaze me. The funny thing is I had just noticed a change in your postings and was wondering what was up-hehe. How did your DH handle the trip? I am assuming Roddy had a caregiver and is overjoyed to have you back.
Ginny HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂!!!!!
My Kentucky grands are coming up in 2 weekends to bake cookies and hang with us. I love that at 14 and 15 they still enjoy doing that. That grandson is getting a personalized bat for Christmas. We talked about it last night. He is designing it and sending me the details. No it won't be a surprise, but it is something he will continue to use. He is both thankful and excited.
Have a wonderful day! You all inspire me to be the best me.
Kylia in Ohio for one more warm day4 -
Sunrise in backyard this morning.

Dawn has broken in Arkansas, looks like it's going to be a sunny, warm day here.
Egg jumped up off my lap at the first sign of key tapping this morning. Should be interesting when Corey gets up - she's not used to him being around on a Monday, and is very much a cat of habit. She disapproves of disturbances in the force... but she adores him.
Machka - Sooooo many questions. How was the trip? Were you able to see lots of family? How did Rowan deal with the long plane flight(s)? Do you put Rhody in a kennel when you're traveling? Does this mean you could move back to Canada? Inquiring minds want to know...
Kylia - Thank you for the pics of what you see, those kinds of pictures always make me feel we know each other better. I can just see you whizzing around on the zeroturn mulching the leaves...
Karen - that video. Well done to the brother who made it.
Corey took a break from being Bob the Builder (Yes we can! ) yesterday. While he bottled a couple gallons of his latest beer and canned a half dozen pints of pepper honey jam, I created something for my sis. She called me for tech support yesterday morning on how to make herself an admin on an old Windows 10 tower she bought from a neighbor. While we were talking, I sent her pics of some of the polymer clay pieces and pottery I'm making, and she jokingly said if I made anything for her to make it in teal, her favorite color. So I made this.
It's polymer clay on a four-inch-wide square glass candle holder. After I laid the clay on the glass, I carved out the tree form. I will get better at that as time goes on, this was my first attempt. Might make another one with a different drawing in the clay. Also began cutting and sewing the material to work on a design I have in mind for a messenger-style shoulder bag with four distinct sections. Very much still in the design stage with scrap materials.
And THAT was why I created the craft room the way I did. I wanted to be able to move from one craft to another without pausing. While the clay was baking in a low oven, I was able to switch completely over to design and sewing mode at the other end of the room. Crafting nirvana...
Time to get back to one or the other.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

Lisa- you are amazing.. Teal is my favorite color too.
And you are an amazing crafter..alot of you are.Wow just Wow..
Karen- I was tearing up at that beautiful video of your brother's memorial of life..
I will take my car to the car wash and vacuum it out today
Also- mouth tape is used for people that mostly use the nasal pillows for the Cpap ,sometimes you fall asleep and your mouth opens and drys out ,causing cavities, dry mouth etc..,this basically keeps it shut all night long. The best I have found yes are on the expensive side ,give you a much better sleep
Yup- uhhhh Alfie isn't spoiled is he? 🤣5 -
MFP Weekly Check-in for November 6, 2023
Rita in Roswell NM - Stayed the same as last week. Lots of ups and downs with water weight due to MCC attack. Should even out soon so I can get a REAL weight!
Debbie in Napa Valley, CA - down one pound - 151.8
Kylia in Ohio - This week I am going with 128.3. 5 out of 7 days were that weight. The others were water weight from either eating out or processed. I don't want to see 130 again as it took too many years to break out of that plateau!
Lanette SW WA State – weight is holding steady. Feeling good with walking more, eating protein at the beginning of the meal, etc. Happy with downward trend from this past summer.

Allie - Thank you, baby girl, what a lovely compliment! Well done to you on the car lease or loan decisions that suit what will make you feel safe and unlikely to break down stranded by the side of the road. We are all such different people, one of the things I love about this ongoing group. You're a better woman than I am... I'm pretty sure that I never vacuumed my car in the four years I owned it! I can be such a grub about some things. I'm going to try to be better with the Kicks. Hey, it could happen.
Love ya!

Kylia ~ Your views from your porches are awesome! Love the sunrise photos. I am just letting the maple tree leaves accumulate in our backyard this year. Last year the lawn folks mulched them and left the ground looking bare and ugly as there is nothing but dirt under them.
Machka ~ Waiting for Part II of your journey! Interesting how the time zones change so drastically.
Karen ~ The memorial video is beautiful!
Michelle ~ You must be so proud of Dr. Jess! Glad she is close enough now for visits.
Ginny ~ Happy Birthday!
I am suffering with neck pain right now! Many, many years ago my son and I were goofing around. He lifted me up and I fell and hit the back of my neck on the edge of a chair. Every once in awhile my neck hurts so badly that I cannot turn my head (especially when I am driving and need to see traffic). Last night the pain kept me from sleeping and radiated down through my shoulder. Hoping Naproxen and Icy Hot will give me some relief.

Front is three acres. Back is two.
That's called "a spread".💖. Awesome! We have this for front:
Back yard is just maybe 20 feet to a green space path that's in between backyards. So low maintenance because its dirt, nothing grows. Maybe spring grass but that's gone come summer. Husband gets out the weed wacker to tackle the spring grass in front yard. Then of course we pick up pine cones.🙄😁

Rosemarie – life has just been so hectic (not sure why, tho) but I do try to catch up. Unfortunately, sometimes I have to skim and miss things. Oops!
Been walking Jess’ dogs. See, she has one dog and then her boss asked her to “watch” her dog for a few days which turned into a few weeks, now it’s been 5 months. Yes, the dogs are very gentle, they really don’t even bark. Her dog does pull when we go for walks, I think he’s just not used to being on a walk. I have been walking both dogs at the same time, but when we go up for Thanksgiving, I think I’ll walk each one one at a time. I am surprised, tho, that the step count wasn’t very high, I was walking them for 2 hours. The step count is basically the same as when I walk around my neighborhood which takes only about 45 minutes. That’s probably because I had to constantly stop so they can smell.
Tracey – “enjoy them while they’re young” LOL Unfortunately, so true
How I miss my clothesline! We had one in our second house and I loved the smell of the clothes and sheets. The only things I really didn’t hang out were Vince’s work shirts and the towels.
Heather – how did you remove the hair from your drain? Do you have a drain that you can remove?
We were making spaghetti in one of Jess’ pots which had a metal handle. I never in my life thought it would be so hot. I went to pick the pot up and burned my hand. Not real bad. But all of the pots with metal handles I’ve ever used, the handle didn’t get so hot.
I only send out a few christmas cards, mainly to family I don’t see (like Vince’s family in MO) and some of the elderly people. Unfortunately, the card list is getting shorter and shorter. I usually write them out right after Thanksgiving
kylia – I string the popcorn in May which helps A LITTLE with the stress. One less thing I need to do right now.
The slicer at BK broke, the screw that holds the plates in just broke. There were two screws and one of them had already broken. Hopefully, when the higher-ups have to do prep, they’ll see how difficult it is and they’ll think about getting either this one fixed or purchasing a new one (which is probably expensive). I think they have a handyman who I would think would have the needed tools to repair it.
KJ – which pelvic floor exercises did they show you?
Lisa – great report
Tina – A few years ago I got all the nicks from shopping carts taken out of my car. It cost over $1,000 to do it. Now I park in “no man’s land”. Hey, for $1,000 I can walk.
Rori – so happy to see you enjoying life. You deserve it.
Karen – I’m so very sorry about you brother. He was so very talented. Thanks for sharing all of his work with us.
Sue – I also make my menus for the next week (just the meat) and decide what I need for the following week so I know what to get.
Allie – is the mouth tape supposed to be in place of the CPAP?
Barbie – I love the lit candle idea. I’m going to mention it to our vet.
Speaking of vets – Jess was on call and we went to NCState for something she had to do with some of the cats. Anyway, there was this “board”. You know, the kind with things like the doctor, the vet techs. At first right next to the word “DVM” was Jess’ name. It took me a minute to realize it was my Jess they were talking about. Now I understand how she felt “weird” when at first they were calling her “Dr. Jess”
I went to the Y. Wanted to see it now that they renovated it. I must say, I was impressed with the cleanliness they now have. How I miss the water aerobics. I am certainly considering going back now. The one thing they don’t have is an indoor walking track. But I wonder if I can walk around the gym, how many laps is a mile? I do have to call them to ask them if I was to wear my jeans from work, could I just walk around the gym? Don’t remember a dress code, there might be one. It was interesting, tho, when I walked around, I saw these people that I knew! The one thing I like about the Y versus where I go now is that the place I go now is mainly dedicated (it seems) to mostly younger people. Maybe 40 or 50 year olds. The Y seems to be for everyone, 40’s 50’s even 90’s. I felt more comfortable, like I wasn’t this old woman there.
M – as you can see, I do try to do a variety of workouts. Like you say, one is good for one thing, HIIT is good for cardio, weights good for bones, etc, etc. Oh, were you saying it was scary that a 12-year-old came to our house on Halloween at 9:30 or did you mean that it’s scary that Vince keeps a gun in close proximity? North Carolina has castle doctrine.
Welcome everyone new (sorry, don’t remember the names)
I sold some of the silver plate and jewelry that I had to the tune of another $300+ for my landscape/renovation fund
Went to the place where Jess takes ceramics. It’s more of the franchise business, not so much like where we go. They don’t pour. I saw one thing that I thought was interesting, but it was a bank. Since they don’t pour, they can’t make it so that there isn’t the opening for the bank
Rebecca – you need that caffeine for the energy to clean, right?????
Pip _ well done to you and Kirby on the run/walk
Have osteoporosis. Prolia really helped, so much that I improved so much that insurance wouldn’t pay for the prolia any more. Went on biphosenates and got worse so the MD wrote to insurance that I really needed the Prolia so now I get it
Allie – congrats on the new car
In the car to/from Jess’ made this hat. I usually do this at the Green Room since it’s a craft that you really don’t have to concentrate on so I can put it down, answer the phone and pick it back up. I usually gave the hats to the Salvation Army, so I’ll give this one to Jerry.
Annie – Good for you using the bike multiple times
kylia – love the detailing. He did a great job!
Michele NC
who is breathing a sigh of relief now
I did! And I cleaned like a mother, vacuumed the whole house, wiped down all windowsills, and furniture, AND they sent husband and email saying house inspection was cancelled due to unforseen circumstances last night! Aack! Of course husband said, maybe I made up the inspection deal so you'd clean the house! Hahaha! I said you would never! (And he wouldn't, if he wants to live😂).

Yep its moisture (mold of some kind) under the linoleum. Plus all the rest of the linoleum (in the kitchen only), is wavey and soft stepping. I walk on the floor there differently! I know it will be a full replacement, and maybe some support joists replaced.🙄
The new management has yet to see it.

Did I tell you ladies that youngest sailor son initiated a video call over the weekend? 2 hours, 20 minutes of chatting! At least that is what Messenger listed. Gawd, I love that kid.💖⚓🤗

Garden stuff My tubs are, I think 10-15 gallons tubs my rancher friend gets stuff for their cattle in. They don’t like throwing them out as they are really hard plastic. He donated a lot of manure to put in the pots too. I split the manure between the pots and top/stir in Miracle gro moisture holding potting soil. I didn’t get hardly any tomatoes this year and my peppers were really tiny. Only the jalapeño’s, onions, potatoes, and mums did well. I have 10 buckets 4 with tomatoes, one with mums, one onion, on herbs (which also do well except for oregano), potatoes, jalepenos, and sweet mixed peppers, and potatoes (accidental find in the RV of older rooted potatoes!). Here are some pictures of them. My mini carnations were choked out by the mums, which came back from last year and bloomed in the spring, I cut them down, an again in the fall.

I have my tomatoes in a huge raised bed and I got very few tomatoes this year- Need to go up and check and see if there are any ready. Only my Roma produced a decent amount. No cucumbers at all- not sure what I did wrong. All the rest of my garden is in the huge pots(the kind trees come in at the nursery that are almost 2' across. Part of the problem was I didn't weed the rest of the garden like I should have-kept putting it off and never got it done as often as it needed. Bermuda grass is terrible.
Tomatoes are still growing, no frost yet so I still might get a few more.

Rebecca- I love the woods around your house. However, I am not a fan of pine needles. They are hard to walk on and I am usually barefoot until winter as much as possible-lol! Beautiful house!2
