good thing I really liked the chicken pot pie I made today. Son went to his girlfriends and dh choose toasted cranberry English muffins with cream cheese instead of the pot pie. I ate it twice, three times if you count the small bowl of filling I ate before I cooked the whole pie. That is all I ate today. I will be eating this for a few days. Son said they will have some tomorrow.
Time to grab a shower then head for bed. I will need to move a few cats so I will have room. I had 5 on my side last night with two more in the bedroom(one on my dresser and one on a pile of blankets on dh's side. The other two were in the other part of the house, one sleeps under the kitchen table, on the chair and the other sits on my toilet seat(it is heated).

Tracey - Glad the show went well. I always used to go along to our local village one, and I usually bought something for the tree. Judging what people will take to, and spend actual money on, must be difficult. Your creations look very friendly and welcoming.
Every morning, when I wake up before DH, I go into the front bedroom to read and talk to you all. At the moment, Venus, the morning star is huge and bright in the east. Lovely. I thought of Lisa, and her Orion blanket.
Well done, Machka, on your great efforts for the cycling event.
Yesterday I bought some pinhead oatmeal, ( steelcut oats ), simply because I like it, and haven't had any for ages. The first time I had it was in New York, in our hotel. I might have it for lunch today. I haven't got a sweet tooth, so I have it with butter and salt.( I will make DH his usual sandwich ). The pack I ordered from Amazon is enormous, so I don't think I will get through it!
Got some presents to wrap today. I usually just loosely roll them in bright tissue paper and stick a bit of sellotape on them. It does the job.
I'm actually feeling like getting back to my book very soon. I'm thinking of having it come out in January, rather than compete with the Christmas rush. It's more or less finished, but I need to add my recent experience with the UTI, and talk about the subtitle. Then think about the cover design and blurb. I hate doing blurbs! I have a photo I can use.
Love to all. Thinking of Annie, and DrKatie, and many others. I wish you all peace.

Sunday --
We have bees again - a very small swarm, but we hope they'll build up this summer. We dropped off a box and frames this afternoon and picked them up late this evening after dark.
It's early to be thinking about Christmas decorations, but when we were out and about this afternoon, I picked up some more solar lights for outside. We only use solar lights for decorating outside. They won't go up for a couple more weeks.
I also spent quite a bit of time wielding my mattock again, and I've got 2 veggie beds ready. There are potentially 4 more to go. But I dug up quite a bit of rock in that process which is good for my drystream area.
It's been such a busy weekend!! But things have been accomplished.

@Whidislander ... also make an appointment with an audiologist who specialises in vestibular issues.
For all of us, it is very important to get our hearing checked regularly.
There are quite a number of studies that show a link between hearing loss and dementia.
The link between hearing loss and dementia
Published: 8/24/2023 2:22:38 AM
https://www.hearing.com.au/news-and-articles/the-link-between-hearing-loss-and-dementia/
"Studies have shown that hearing loss can increase the risk of developing dementia by up to five times and the greater the hearing loss, the greater the risk. And decline in memory and thinking capabilities happens up to 40 per cent faster in those with a hearing loss compared to those without."
https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2021/hearing-loss-and-the-dementia-connection
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/the-hidden-risks-of-hearing-loss
I saw my parents last month for the first time in 6 years. My mother was shorter but didn't appear to have aged that much. My father had aged a lot. One of the things I am concerned about with him is that his hearing is going ... is well on its way to being gone ... so he is becoming more isolated. But convincing him to get tested and get hearing aids is proving to be difficult.
I am losing my hearing ... it could be hereditary because several older family members have followed the same path including, of course, my father. I was tested last year and the loss is noticeable, but according to the audiologist, it is not bad enough for hearing aids yet. Nevertheless, I will have to go for regular testing and one day I will need hearing aids.
That's OK with me. I get my eyes tested regularly and update my glasses. To me, hearing tests and hearing aids are no different.
And if keeping on top of my hearing helps prevent dementia, it's definitely something I want to keep on top of!!
So I encourage all of you to get tested. It's good for our health!

Good morning ladies-just a quick check in right now. Spent Friday and Saturday at hospital for birth of granddaughter. They started inducing on Friday morning and Luna finally made her appearance at 6:59 last night! Just about 31 hours of labor!. Mom, baby and my son are all doing well. I drove home last night and got here around 10:30. Didn't sleep much in hospital at all (sitting up in a chair all night). I have not yet held baby-hospital encourages just parents the first couple of days. However, I got to rub her back and talk to her. She was 7lbs 5 oz so nice size. They will measure her length today when some of the cone head flattens out. I am letting mom and dad get acquainted with her today (and they get some rest). They will go home tonight or tomorrow morning. I will be at their house Thanksgiving day. Need to get laundry and some work stuffs done. May try to work from home tomorrow if still exhausted. Will not post many pictures until my children start-they all feel different about public pictures.
Take care all,

Good morning ladies!
Well yesterday was very smooth after all my worry and preparation. Mom got in the car, got into the house and onto the couch. She stayed there, alternately upright and prone, until 8:30. It was tough to get her up the stairs at night, but she made it.
Her medicine is a bit off. They gave me thirty days worth all separated into daily doses. For some reason they reduced her blood thinner and heart medicine, stopped her low blood pressure medicine, and started an antidepressant. They did not explain this to me. Maybe they explained it to her.
So she got up and halfway down the stairs before I caught up. I fixed her breakfast. Things are going okay.
Annie in Delaware8 -
Well I think I'll be spending a lot of time sitting in this armchair, sort of waiting until my mom needs something. She has a bell to call me, but she won't use it. She is trying to do things herself and go back to the old normal. Except she is deferring her pills. She won't ever "want" to take them.
My best estimate is that this phase will last a couple years. Less if she falls which is unlikely, and more if she takes her pills regularly, which is also unlikely. So we shall see. I understand about the balance between prolonging life vs life with dignity. Lots to consider.
Meanwhile I need to find a way to exercise while I am "waiting" for her to need me. Maybe just pace around the house. Hmm. It might finally be time to get a wrist step counter. I used to walk for time, fifteen minutes or so, but that won't work with interruptions.
Thank you for all your well wishes! You really do help me to keep my priorities straight, and focus on the right stuff. I couldn't do it without you all!

K and A baking . I jus5 hang out and help as needed these days. But LOVE that they still want to bake with me.
My DED and family
We managed to get the back lights hung and gutters cleaned before it got too cold. Went to favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner. Back to house. Kids worked on cookies and a paperclip project. I got some ballet tips 😉
My son in law hooked up my router extender and blink doorbell. Apparently I need to order a second one according to DH. After everyone else went to bed, DED and I talked until 2 am! They are all still sleeping at almost 9 am and we're all asleep by 11 pm. DH can't believe they are still asleep. I take it as a sign that our home is comfortable and relaxing.
Plan is hot tub, clean kitchen back up, I have a massage, hanging more lights, then a friend's house this evening for desserts. Have to walk today. DH has to convince K to make him chocolate chip cookies. They are his favorites. I will send most of the snickerdoodles and peanut butter blossoms home with them. They left me dough in the fridge which I will ball and freeze today for later.
Machka I agree with caring for hearing like eyes. 👍 I really don't know why there is such opposition to wearing hearing aids especially with all the new technologies. You reminded me that I need to schedule hearing tests for DH and I. Thank you.
Annie I am glad mom is home. Finding balance is the key. Don't you have an exercise bike? If so could you move it to living room? If not, then yes. Even marching in place during commercials. I often walk in place. The most important thing to remember is that you have to take care of you first! Your parents need you.
Ginny Congratulations to you and your family on a healthy baby girl.
Debbie You are in such a tough spot. My DH would be lucky if I ever cooked for him if he didn't eat what I prepared. I take into consideration what he likes when cooking, but I don't like cooking enough to have him not appreciate it. There have been a time or two when I tried something new. He ate it, but told me I didn't need to make it again:) Hugs!
Better get moving.

1. Make a list of new things you want to do this month. 1. Start Christmas shopping, 2. Work on my happiness, 3. Walk the mall at least once. 4. Read a new book
2. Respond to a difficult situation in a different way. I will see what comes up, but the daily readings I do have helped a lot already! Did this!
3. Get outside and observe the changes in nature around you..Supposed to be in the low 80’s (f) here today and the week to come so will have plenty of time to do this. Didn’t do this today, sick.
4. Sign up to join a new course, activity, or online community. I’ll have to look around for this. Thinking about something to do with MCC. I joined 2 new groups on FB.
5. Change your normal routine today and notice how you feel. Will do!
6. Try out a new way of being physically active. I will have to think about this. Maybe do a YouTube video. Did not do this.
7. Be creative. Cook, draw, write, paint, make or inspire. I will Zendoodle. I tried out my DH’s suggestion for mirror letters.
8. Plan a new idea or activity you want to try out this year. I have a water color set. I will experiment with that.
9. When you feel you can’t do something, add the word ‘yet’. I need to remember this.
10. Be curious, learn about a new topic or an inspiring idea. I learned about Alonon and downloaded their app and read through it.
11. Choose a different route and see what you notice on the way. I did this on my walk today.
12. Find out something new about someone you care about. Research time!
13. Do something playful outdoors - walk, run, explore, relax. Took a walk.
14. Find a new way to help or support a cause you care about. Have to think about this.
15. Build on new ideas by thinking “yes, and what if…” I will remember this!
16. Look at life at someone else’s eyes and see their perspective. According to my therapist, this is called empathy. I do this but not enough. Will try to do better.
18. Connect with someone from a different generation. I do this most days at the park.
19. Broaden your perspective: read a different paper, magazine, or site. Will do!20. Make a meal using a recipe or ingredient you haven’t used before.

Feeling pain from inflammation in my bowels and kidney. If not better, back to doctor. I am going to try not eating grains or sugar. That may help the inflammation. I’ve not been good since before Halloween so it’s time or I’ll be sick for the rest of the year. This happened before and I don’t remember what I did to stop it. So not very conversational today. I do have to do wash as our access to the washer and dryer goes away this week and I will have to start back going to the laundromat. Oh, well, it was nice while it lasted.

Today is: Soup and Monopoly day!!

Kylia - Your smile says everything in that picture... you just shine!
Rita - I'm so sorry everything's inflamed, hope you can get seen quickly.
Well... I don't know about you, but this picture does not look like someone who has decided to let someone else get that roof done for him. He's throwing around OSB 8'x4' sheathing boards like they are nothing. (They are something--something heavy.) I married a maniac... in the very best sense of the term. Can't watch him, I just went outside to snap a quick picture for proof.: Not sure of what, but it's proof of something!Pain day for me, third one in a row, waiting for the mid-morning pills to cut in. I've got a message in to the VA to get an appointment to see a doc. This isn't normal or natural, there's something wrong going on with my pelvic floor, and I need some help to figure it out. Bleah. Tired of docs.
Oh, one victory... when we moved into the house, we removed the storm door on the front porch because it was quite heavy and had not been installed well, it was pulling the whole door frame apart just from the sheer weight and a bad job putting it up. We set it out by the woodshed, with the intention of hauling it off to the dump one day. Well... Corey based the measurements for the door to the new sunroom on it, because we intended to buy the same kind at a later point. Then he decided to drag it over to the sunroom and make sure he had measured correctly. Turned out, with a little effort, elbow grease, and Windex, it slid right into place and cleaned right up, even after five years outside! That's about a $500 savings, as it's a full glass door! So happy, because we are building four 4'x4' windows into this room as well. The more light the better.
And... I'm going to go sew or possibly play with some polymer clay and get my mind diverted into something besides what hurts.
Oh - and a Levi sighting for Sunday football... This face is the one my high school football coach encouraged, saying "Grab a root and growl!"
Love y'all,

This morning I discovered that the fingerless glove I just finished knitting had been found by Annie, the puppy, and chewed up beyond repair. Boo hoo. Later I found a fingerless glove that I thought I'd lost l last winter, so I came out even. Yippee. I have plenty of red wool yarn to knit another pair and the time and energy to do the knitting.
My 12.22 pound turkey is in the fridge to thaw. Mashed potatoes are in the fridge. Ice cream is in the freezer. Thanksgiving will be a day for thanks.

Heather - I love the autumnal painting.
Annie - I hope you had a smooth day today.
Barbara - I’m here, reading along just not taking a lot of notes at the moment. I had my first craft show today, the next two Saturdays as well. I’m hoping to get a couple more on but may not.
Lisa - that Afghan is beautiful.
Kim - I am always thankful for our healthcare system when any of you in the States mention the costs.
Pip - what a beautiful view.
Allie - I am watching Hallmark movies too. I think they have more interesting stories this year.
Machka - that’s early! Looks like it was a good day though.
I had my first show today it went well. I had a couple of fumbles. My Square reader wouldn’t work. I forgot my paint pen for personalizing. None of my paper products sold, but was still a good day.
I had a lot of people talking about this, house set but no one bought it.
Tomorrow I need to really clean this house and start working on stock for next week’s show. I start a new course on Monday so will probably have some homework. It seems the first week is more intense than the second when there are two weeks of the same course. One week courses are a bit too short and I feel they are too rushed.

Good morning ladies.
Heather, love the painting.
Tracey, good to hear that your first showing went well. Surprised no one bought the house set....so cute!
Annie, wishing you all the best in your caretaking role which I know is a tough one. Sounds like your mom is settling in nicely.
Ginny, congrats to you and family on the new addition. Look forward to seeing pics.
Another very nice day today. Bit busy this morning. Put a bread on in my bread machine, vacuumed and mopped some floors then decided to start a chili in my slow cooker for supper so have that going now. Have some homemade bread buns in the freezer which will go nicely with it. DH and I will be watching football (CFL grey cup) which starts at 4:00 pm our time. I'm not a big football watcher during the season but always enjoy the grey cup. Looking forward to the day Edmonton will be back in it. Right now they had a pathetic season again but on the bright side, they have only one way to go in the future as they are pretty much at the bottom right now.
Enjoy the day.

Heather ~ Your autumn card for SIL is lovely. Glad John found the hat he wants.
Tracey ~ Your crafts for the show are neat! Hope you continue to have good success with the shows coming up.

Kylia ~ Everyone looks so happy in the photo (especially you) and know it warms your heart to have such smart grandchildren.
Ginny ~ Congrats on your new granddaughter! That was a LONG delivery but glad they are doing OK.
Annie ~ Prayers for you as you continue to care for mom and dad. It seems like you have insight regarding their future care and needs.
Went to granddaughter's first basketball game on Saturday and really enjoyed seeing her do her best. She always has a smile on her face and is a pleasure to see.
Am in the process of trying to find new lawn care people and it's not easy. There are so many leaves on the ground at my brother-n-laws house that you can't see the driveway. I have contacted the guy we have used for 6+ years and he just isn't taking care of it.

Ginny - congrats on Luna's arrival. So glad she's here and all is well. This will be a memorable Thanksgiving for everyone. Hope you can catch up on sleep.
Annie- crossing fingers all is going well at your house. Thought about you a lot yesterday afternoon. I'm hoping that as mom settles in, you'll be able to have a schedule that gives you time to do things in the house (and even outside the house like grocery shopping?) that doesn't require you sitting in the room with her. You probably already have a lot of this figured out!
Kim - we are so appreciative of your wisdom and insight into dealing with elderly parents and everything you learned caring for your mom this summer. Sounds like she's getting along OK in her own house. And thanks too for sharing your experience cooking for that family. It's been different for me cooking a quantity of food like I used to and putting half in the freezer. My DH didn't like leftovers so I also prepared a lot of variety at one time, and it was fun.
Machka - interesting information about hearing loss and dementia. I thought the Lancet study gave a good overview of all the risk factors for dementia, with hearing loss being one of them.
I skimmed the links you provided. There are so many types of dementia. My grandparents who lived the longest and had the best brains in their mid 90's had "old age" hearing loss and no hearing aids - or didn't wear them. Perhaps they were strong in other areas such as no smoking, good nutrition, being active/exercise that kept their brains in good shape despite not hearing worth a darn. I'd like to see more research on hearing loss and dementia with these other factors taken into consideration. Maybe the TILDA study mentions it - I haven't had a chance to look yet.
Joy - I love getting the updates from you, imagining your place on the prairie. Enjoy the game!
Carol - good luck finding a landscaper. If I could whoosh out to your house I'd bring my little battery operated leaf blower and get things cleaned up.
BMI's for older folks: I ran across an interesting article this morning about BMI for folks over 65. In the same vein as the smartbmicalculator. The optimal BMI for folks over 65 is a lot different than it was when we were younger. Here's the link:
https://thegeriatricdietitian.com/bmi-in-the-elderly/
And check out this chart. It tells me quit worrying about the scale and keep working on building some muscle.

Thanks everyone. Family doing well today. I'm pretty darned tired right now. I did my shopping. Got in nearly 3 mile walk. Laundry, ironing. Getting things ready for work tomorrow.
Lanette-several of the ladies on here gave me gentle reminders about age appropriate BMI. With my quit smoking weight I am a bit over 25-which according to the new research is a good spot. I am working on getting things one up since my surgery last year-I know that makes a difference. Also trying to keep muscle as much as I can. I addition to exercise eating right can help that.
Payday was Friday. I usually balance the checkbook on Saturday. Going to try to get that done before I call it a day.
Take care all,,

Debbie - I honestly don’t know how you keep making meals for anyone but yourself. Your family is so rude and disrespectful to you.
Heather - I find the customer base changes from show to show. What didn’t sell yesterday might sell out next week and what did sell won’t sell. It’s funny really.
I made these little elf blocks, they are the letter blocks children play with, a round bead for a head and felt for arms, legs and hat. I made these probably 4 or 5 years ago. I found them difficult to sell because they are hard to track what letter I have, I don’t have enough of one letter, etc. I decided yesterday to give them away to children if I had the right letter for them. I ended up selling a bunch of them yesterday to adults. The one child that had the correct initial that I gave one to, his Mom came back and paid for it anyway. 🤷♀️
Machka - That’s interesting about hearing loss and dementia. I’ve heard that before and it makes sense because it is isolating and studies have also shown that loneliness and isolation cause dementia.
I don’t know what it is with men and hearing aids, my DH needs one and refuses to go see about it. It would even be covered because he was in the reserves.
Ginny - Congratulations Grandma! It’s such an exciting time!
Annie - I’m glad your Mom’s first day at home was not as stressful as you were expecting. I bet they actually straightened a lot of her meds out.
When my Dad was sick, they didn’t tell him to stop taking his blood pressure meds so he ended up passing out because he didn’t need it anymore. They finally had a review of his meds and turned out he didn’t need anything anymore.
Kylia - it sounds like you’re enjoying your visit. Will they stay through Thanksgiving?
Lisa and Rita - I hope you both feel better soon.
Rita - I may end up at a laundromat soon too. In some ways I like the speed of getting it done, I hate carrying it out and having to do it though. We have a small leak in our washer that a towel is catching quickly, I want it to last until after Christmas when I may need to buy another one.
Lisa - that is a funny way of not doing the roof.
My Dad fell off a roof when he was young and hurt his shoulder. It pained him all his life. He put off going to the doctor when he had lung cancer because he thought the shoulder pain was from his old injury.
Joy - I don’t watch football, but I heard the Elks weren’t doing well.
Lanette - I keep thinking I need to do the weekly weigh in and then I don’t. I weigh everyday, but my scales are so wonky I don’t trust them. The other day though my doctors scale was actually .6 lbs less than my scale so I must be doing something right. I am now down about 4lbs since you started that.
My Grands and eldest daughter were here today. It was so nice to have them. They haven’t been coming as often lately. Timings just weren’t working out and then one of the other of them were sick.
I don’t remember if I related the story about the phone call last week because Michaela had lost her lipstick. I’m pretty sure I did. Anyway, they were only here a short time this afternoon when she asked if we could go to get her new lipstick.
So we go to Dollarama which she is sure where we got it and she can’t find it. Finally, her Mother realizes exactly what she had been talking about and it was from Walmart and they bought it for her not me. Her lipstick was “lip chap”. My youngest called Chap Stick lip chap and now everyone in the family calls it that. I bought her some new lip chap and an adult colouring book and she was quite happy. She has a wonderful sense of colour and loves practicing and playing with colour combinations.
I made this today. Michaela and I are both hoping it doesn’t sell at the next show. If I can find more of the gnome tags I will make a couple more.
I’m sitting and doing nothing right now for the first time in a couple of weeks. I’m about to go take a bath and then I’m going to cuddle up with a tea and blanket.
DH went to work but will come home early if it’s an option night. No snow means nothing for them to do at work.
