Love y'all!

I wasn't particularly worried about the cockroach. I know they exist in Tasmania and we see them now and then ... not an infestation, just the occasional one here and there. We'll see them outside once in a while. Inside, they can occasionally be found downstairs or in the bathroom, where the one was found. A couple times we've seen one in the entry way.
The thing is, we leave doors and windows open fairly frequently, and treat the garden like an additional room ... so it's no wonder various things wander in from time to time.Lisa eloquent as always and oh so true! As for Machka's cockroach I am with Machka. One lesson I learned in the Philippines was to turn on lights before entering a dark room, especially the bathroom. Between roaches, rice beetles, spiders, and geckos, you wanted to know where you were stepping. They didn't make much appearance out of bathrooms thank goodness.
TTYL,
Kylia in cold Ohio
We get various spiders, cockroaches, scorpions, various insects, and small lizards wandering into the house.
Rhody captures moths, but doesn't really like to eat them, so he gives them to me. He leaves them by my laptop.
We pop the lizards and some of the others back outside.
Scorpions and wasps don't usually make it.
But yes, we've got motion lights in the hallway and toilet room so that we can see what might be in the way of walking.
We'll sometimes bring motion lights with us when we travel so we can use them where we stay too.

Annie, Kylia, Rita, and others in need of hugs...sent your way!
Well, I managed to clear out 2 huge boxes of clothes from my closet and dresser. I think I'll do another pass before sending them off. I just want a few outfits that I can wear out and feel good about myself. Currently, I have nothing of the sort.
A friend of mine was hit by a car while he was walking last week. He was in ICU (intensive care) with a brain bleed and cracked skull. Yesterday, we thought he was on the mend, but he passed away this morning. He wasn't even 40. It was a hit-and-run, likely a drunk driver. We were supposed to go to the opening lacrosse game in two weeks. He had season passes and I was usually his "date." I think I'll go to the game in his memory.
I was in the process of making him "get well" cookies when I got the news. It's a sad day indeed.
What makes a sad day a bit better? Seeing all the pics of the kiddos in your lives! Thanks for sharing your families.
Back to the kitchen. Baking and cooking make me feel better.
Tina in CA
Sorry about your friend.
That kind of hit me because of what I went through a little over 5 years ago with my husband ... and the man across the ward from him who didn't survive his severe brain injury.

Lanette, Oops, I even weighed this morning. The lowest I was all week, coming in at 127.6. Yay! Was stuck at 139.8 all week so I will say water weight. Water, water, water...ugh.
Tina I am sending you hugs. So sorry for your loss.
Annie Still hugging you!
Tracey Mr Snowman is still in recovery. It was dark when I got home. I am hoping he will be okay and ready to go back to work this weekend-lol! I love the Christmas wrap idea! Make it like a giant present.
Carol Computer issues suck! Good to see your smiling face.
My bit of country life was a coyote in the backyard. I was watching with binoculars when I realized it was eating. He stood there for over 5 minutes even when DH went out on porch. Strange behavior as they are usually quite skittish and drag they prey back undercover. Remember 2 acres in backyard. Drove truck down to investigate. It was gone, but bunny fur remained. Just an odd thing that I don't often see.
Well, yesterday's hunt was safe, but no meat brought in. DH said he sat and watched 2 eating for about 15 minutes around 5 pm. He chose not to take shot as it would have been the only one taken and late in day. Two guys missed their shots. Today is a new day. We don't believe in trophy hunting. Venison is our main red meat.
I got three hours of online training done yesterday. Sold a lawnmower, snow blower, and trimmer. Was a busy couple of hours in late day. Hoping for another productive day.
Hair appointment tonight. SIL won't be at worked. I told her to stay home as I don't want whatever she has! So just Roger and I.
Off to get some more cards done. I got my first one in the mail yesterday! I do have to get my decorating inside done before Sunday evening. We are hosting the dessert gathering. I reckon my theme is cozy Christmas. One friend decorates early American style. Antiques, old fashioned ornaments, candles. The other's style is country chic. She uses lots of white and metals. I once lamented that my house has no style. My sister said my style is cozy and welcome. Love her!
Hugs held extra tight!
Much love,
Kylia in Cold 🥶 Ohio thankful for alpaca socks and long johns! Oh and remote start vehicles.4 -
Definitely playing with water weight! Scale says 131 this morning. I am sure last night's massage didn't help scale, but water needed.2

Tina-so sad to hear of your friend. Going to the game in his memory is a great idea.
I live in a definite suburb but surrounded by some farmland. I have seen the occasionally coyote slinking across my front yard early in the morning (I think going from one corn field to the other). We have quite a few of them in our county. I prefer to keep bugs of all sorts out of my house!
Working from home today. Did get call from podiatrist office yesterday-they were asking if I would like a ct of left foot/leg to see if something else is going on since pain is increasing. What a great idea! (I am being sarcastic). Got it scheduled for today. Will hold off on the calls I also got from pt and an alternative treatment podiatrist has discussed until I get ct results. I don't mind pt or trying other treatments, but I would like to be certain of what the problem actually is.
Take care all,

I do enjoy working with SQL and am glad I could take this course. I have worked with SQL for years, and have taken courses in it, but I'm yet to feel anything like proficient ... one day, maybe. Of course, there have been a few people where I work who are absolutely brilliant at SQL, so that's what I aspire to!

Good morning ladies!
Up super early again. It seems I've gotten into a cycle - 6 hours one night, 7 1/2 hours the next night, rinse and repeat.
Debbie - I just remembered a similar case to your MIL where a GI married a Filipino gal and brought her to the US to live, she was also a "snag" with a similar mean and controlling personality. She drove both of her kids away. The son married the daughter of a friend of mine, and her 2 kids made it a point to move far away. As far as I know, the snag's husband is still alive. Next time I see my friend I'll get an update.
Tina - so sorry to hear about your friend. Hope they caught the driver and that person is brought to justice.
Ginny - hope they can find what's bugging your foot.
Barbara - how's that leg/foot/shinsplint coming along? I wore different shoes yesterday and woke up with an aching shin! It doesn't take much. Now that I've been walking around the house in my old shoes a little it seems OK. Also, yesterday I walking on the road a little = pavement. "House walking" is easier on my feet and legs since much of it is on a softer surface. Hope that oven part comes in.
What the heck is it with customer service and deliveries these days? Barbara's oven igniter. Joy's TV dish. Debbie's phone. Allie's missing phone. Good gravy.
Kylia - good job on the sales floor yesterday and keeping your weight steady.
Machka - does all honey crystallize? I have some I bought years ago, theoretically from bee keepers within my area, that is still very liquid. And I have a couple quarts of local honey I bought just last year that are crystallizing! I'm starting to wonder if the liquidy stuff was adulterated with corn syrup. It doesn't have an intense honey flavor either.
Beth and KJ - are you getting lake effect snow right now? It's 25 here. Gradual warming starting tomorrow and rain due by Thursday. Daytime temps won't be too warm until the weekend but at least no more freezing nights. Every morning just before daybreak I've been taking hot water out for the hens. By the time they get to it, their water bowl has cooled off some but still. They seem to be surviving.
Chicken stuff - Yesterday I was busy soldiering up the roof over the chicken run. When Roger helped me put it together this summer, he used a 1 x 2 center beam and we arched wire fencing over it, then placed a tarp for sun/rain shade. If we get snow or an ice storm that puts much weight on that tarp, that 1 x 2 probably won't old the weight. So I put a center beam in. It's only a 1 x 2 as well, but it's something. I found a 2 x 2 in DH's wood stash that I'm drying out and will have ready. It's weathered but seems pretty sound. Just when I said the egg production is falling off, Gladys and Thelma are back at it again. Maybe it's that warm water they get in the morning. See above.
More thoughts on our aging brains .... I think being around younger people helps us immensely. It seems you moms and grandmothers who are able to interact often with younger family members and friends may keep your brains from aging. I feel lucky that my best friend is in her early 50's and we message or text each other several times a day about all kinds of things and I generally see her once or more a week. In fact, people my own age seem older than me most of the time. I guess that's why going to a senior center or similar place where "old folks" hang out doesn't interest me right now.
Regarding hawks taking out little birds - I sometimes see the hawks doing their business here - not very much since I haven't remembered to fill the bird feeder. When we lived on the farm, neighbors would lose little dogs like Yorkies to eagles and larger birds of prey. We never lost a lamb to birds. Some did come up missing after our guard dog died, either from coyotes who were brave enough to come into the barn or perhaps a large cat - something that could drag a lamb over the fence.
Was going to go shopping this morning but think I'll stick close to home. Want to make beef & barley soup, and try my hand at making hummus. I found an old jar of tahini in the fridge, if it's not good anymore, peanut butter works well too. I'm going to take the time to remove as many "hulls" from the chickpeas as I can.
That's the latest. Need to poke the fire in the woodstove, doesn't want to get going this morning for some reason.
Make it a super day!

Good morning ladies!
Thank you all again for your hugs and best wishes. My sister is here for the week, so that helps. My morbid thoughts don't seem so out of line when I can talk to her.
Mom had a bedside biopsy last night. They went in through her mouth under a local, so not invasive at all, thank goodness. The ENT surgeon called it a malignancy, although we won't be sure until the results are back from pathology.
He said that surgery treatment would remove part of her palate and mess up her cheek and mouth, and require reconstruction. She really isn't a candidate for that at 91, with kidney and heart issues. So maybe some radiation.
I'm thinking palliative care, and so is my sister. My dad has been quiet during these conversations. I don't know if he can't hear it or doesn't want to face it. I guess I need to have a palliative care consult. And it's probably time to call hospice.
The other issue is whether she comes home. I don't know if we can care for her here. Even keeping her hydrated is a challenge. But she wants to come home.
So that's my world this morning. Or it will be, after another cup of tea. Thank you all for listening to me as I clarify my thoughts.

Yes, I believe that all (or maybe 99%) raw honey crystallises although the time varies. Our first batch took a matter of days to start to crystallise, while the second batch took about a month.
My first guess with the liquid honey is that it may have been pasteurized. Most likely still OK to use but the goodness is gone. My second guess would be that it was mixed with something.
https://www.rockymountainhoneyco.com/blogs/bee-blog/the-misunderstanding-of-crystallized-honey
"Real, raw honey crystallizes.
The crystallization of honey is often misunderstood by the consuming public. Many assume that crystallized honey has been adulterated, is of poor quality or unnatural, or has spoiled or gone bad. This is simply not so. And actually, the exact opposite holds true.
If a honey does not crystallize for a long time, with the except of certain types of honey that naturally crystallize slower or not at all (such as Acacia or Tupelo), it is often a clear indication that the honey has been adulterated, diluted, or pasteurized.
The crystallization process is natural and spontaneous. Pure, raw and unheated honey has a natural tendency to crystallize over time with no effect on the honey other than color and texture. What's more, the crystallization of honey preserves the flavor and quality characteristics of your honey."
https://www.naturenates.com/honey-turned-solid-its-real/
"Did you know that real honey crystallizes? Raw and unfiltered honey, made by our favorite buzzing buddies, tends to take on a white, solid appearance over time – sometimes a short time! It may look hard and crunchy. Or maybe it has turned completely solid. No worries. It’s still good and tells you you’re buying the real deal, not some honey-flavored fructose disguised in a cute little bear bottle."

Tina - So very sad about your friend. Our friends are so important to us.
Annie - Good discussion with your sister. You can have hospice at home, but it is a huge strain. I personally would not consider it, but you may feel otherwise.
I have filled in the self-referral form for physio at the hospital. I'm not getting too excited, but you have to start somewhere!
I have also, this week, gone back to editing my book. It feels so good to be working on it again. Huge shift in mood.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
Detachment and taking it one day at a time are good suggestions for today. They don't solve the problem, but they relieve the worrier of a lot of pain and suffering.3
-
Tina - I'm so sorry about your friend. Remember to take tissues with you to the game, the memories will come flooding back! I think it's a great way to memorialize your friendship.
Annie - Hugs and more hugs. I'm sure you've thought of this already, but is it possible your mom doesn't want to eat or drink because she's ready to leave, or nearly ready? I'm glad your sister is there.
Heather - I'm glad you're back to editing your book, it seems to be a deep need for you, working on a book at one stage or another. Hope the medicos get it together and get you the physical therapy you need soon.
Allie - Hope the phone issue works out and it doesn't cost you too much. Don't know if you remember me saying I'd been scammed, that a site that told me they were charging me $1 popped up with a $29 charge... At the time, they backed off and just charged the original dollar after I protested the bigger amount. I was fine with that, I had agreed to pay the dollar. Well, they came back again this month, trying to charge me on that same card for a $29 for a "subscription" that I never agreed to, so I worked with the card company, canceled the card completely, and they're reissuing me a different number. Luckily, it's not the card that I have all the monthly automatic payments on for phone, internet, trash, electric, etc., so I don't have to reset everything, just my Amazon account. So frustrating to have to protect ourselves so much from these scammers and thieves. Hope your lunch with your friends is lovely.
Carol - Taking small bites of massive tasks helps a lot. It took all summer for me to go through the house and the storage room and get the things that weren't used out to donate or out to the trash. Just take one room. Just do something today, or clear one box a week. It really doesn't matter. It's when we look at things as a whole that we get overwhelmed. Heather's way of doing it one drawer at a time is a great way to clear that kind of clutter.
Rosemarie - I'm sorry your house, too, is in chaos while you're waiting for the junk haulers. My head tends to look like the inside of my house, as well, so it's very discomfiting to have things chaotic and messy in a central space. Hope they do what they're supposed to in a reasonable amount of time.
More later...
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR, where it's sunny, but barely above freezing... Egg was a little dubious this morning about my fire-making skills, as you can see... I tried to explain that all fires start somewhere...

Love all the ways to say NO. Need this. With husband in such ill health and friends and family busy with their own lives. I have had to ask what is important to me and why. The group I paint with because we support each other's creativity, volunteering in schools to get around children in a positive way since no grandchildren, singing in my church choir, taking time just to sit and reflect, seeing my son weekly, letting go of the things that are no longer a part of my life, gardening. I find myself still trying to accommodate others at the expense of these activities. I still have many times I can still get together if it works with their schedule great if not that is just the way it is.
I did have a wake up call yesterday...I did have trouble remembering what I did with a friend a few years ago. I told her that was a very traumatic time in my life as many of you know because you were right there with me. She laughed when I couldn't remember even after I said how traumatic that period was for me. I realize I need to stand up for myself and not let things like that slide like I have in the past. I only train her to disregard my feelings that are important to me. I needed to say it is NOT funny and your laughing makes me feel disrespected!
The wake call is I have more work to do in healing my trauma and to be more authentic and honest in my feelings.7 -
