Tina – I’m so sorry to hear about your dh. And right before the holidays, too!
Well, off to try on the elf costume. Wish me luck

There are nearly always massive layoffs in this city just before the end of the year, so it wasn't unexpected for us. So many of the companies here (biotech/pharma) are public and need to look as if they have more cash at the end of the year. His company simply ran out of funding. He knew it was coming.
Hope the elf costume fitting was successful!

Pip-Have you ever visited Sensorio in Paso? https://sensoriopaso.com/. Congrats to Yogi for becoming a calendar boy. Sorry about your brother!
Today, the mister is going away for the weekend. It's nice to have the house to myself for a short time. It'll be a lot of quiet and reading time.
He was also informed last week that he'll lose his job next month. His current colleague already got another offer. The challenge is finding a place that will let him work part-time.
Off to pack up the cooler. Have a great day and weekend!

No I haven’t,
It's a nice display. I think it runs through the end of the year up in Paso.

Debbie - I can smell all of your delicious baking all the way up here! You are so sweet to make things for neighbors and friends. My "cookie" neighbor posted pictures of her tables and counters full of cookies and candy - she bakes for weeks and freezes as she goes then assembles plates and drops them off around the neighborhood.
Machka - Nice tree! Once it was decorated, I had to look twice to see that it wasn't an evergreen.
Michele - you as an elf and Vince as Santa will be the hit of the party!
Pip -sorry to hear about your brother's health problems. Hopefully your mom will ease up on him.
Heather - sorry you are under the weather. When I made scotch eggs, I baked them in the oven on a rack. They probably aren't "authentic" but I thought they were yummy. I need to dig out the recipe.
I skipped the Christmas lunch get-together and spent most of the day working on the chicken run. Hopefully my fixes won't detach and blow away - there's not supposed to be a lot of wind with the rain this weekend. I'll keep an eye on it. The girls should stay fairly dry.

He’s not staying with mom right now, he’s at my sisters house. Mom is a different bird, it’s not in her dna to “ease up”, sad but true, she’s pushed us all away7 -
Barbie, belated thanks for a new month!
Rebecca, Eli, Athena andTucker too! And for the pics!
Heather, hope you feel better soon.
Rori and Lanette, so sorry to hear of your respective losses. Hugs for both of you.
Debbie, so glad you stood up to your mil. Has your hubby ever tried just leaving when she starts getting pissy? That approach may work, or not, she’s got some pretty well entrenched issues and behaviours.
Pip, congrats to your pin up boy!! Great pics of Yogi.
Tracey, love your paintings and the ceramic hot tub Santa!
Barbara, your two dogs cuddled up and sleeping is such a sweet pic!
Lisa, the sunroom is looking great! I remember the shirtless Corey pic, it was a goodie!
I know I missed folks, but my brain just can’t come up with anything else! Please know that I’m thinking of all of you!
I’m feeling not great today, tested negative for Covid this morning, so I guess it’s just a cold. I will test again, possibly as soon as tonight, definitely tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will continue to be negative…. I got my younger son’s Christmas package in the mail today which means he will actually get it before Christmas, yay!!! lol
That’s all I’ve got for now. Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to any new gals!

Annie Thanks for the heads up about the flours. It appears you use less and add more moisture with eggs or added liquid. A friend at church uses them for her gluten free husband I will ask her for some tips too!

Well, the elf didn’t eat too many holiday cookies! The only thing I had to do was reinforce the bell on one of the shoes. It was holding on by just one thread.
I would like to get another wide patent leather belt for the costume. I would like the one I have to be bigger. If anyone has one (and I know they are hard to come by), please let me know. I will certainly pay you for it.
In a way I wish we didn’t have the ceramics party tomorrow. It’s supposed to be nice weather and we could do outdoor decorating. They’re calling for rain on Sunday.

But if it doesn't hurt anything I let it go. I want them to trust me, so I hesitate to lie outright, but I'm pretty clever at picking elements of the truth. With mom, we talk about her decline, but I don't mention cancer. We let her believe she might get better, even though that's a fantasy.

My most used therapeutic lies were along the lines of ...
To: We need to do this now! I respond: "Don't worry, I will look into that", or "It's on my list, I just need to do a couple other things first", "I'm in the process of investigating our options". (Not going to happen!)
To: I'm going to go back to work on Monday (a common comment) I respond: "It might not happen on Monday, but we'll see about one day later in the week." (Not going to happen for a long time if ever!)
To: Bring the bicycles in and we'll ride to the end of the cycleway! I respond: I can't bring the bicycles in right now, but how about we go for a walk in the park this weekend instead." (Not going to happen for a few months at least!)
Essentially I pushed things out into the near future (and hoped he would forget about it) or indicated that I'm on it - investigating, taking steps to make it happen (and hoped he would forget about it).

Hello to all! Here I go again, My FitnessPal works when you follow it. I got down to 179 pounds about 18 months ago, was working full time as the head supervisor of a state run campground in the Catskill Mountains. Never sat down from 5AM to 11PM...then I semi retired and moved to Northern California to help my brother care for his disabled son. And slowed down and got a lot of bad eating habits, oops. My brother and his son always have donuts, cake and pies on the counter, several different kinds of bread in the breadbox, and every kind of sweet imaginable. Yikes, I stopped moving, stopped weighing myself and never resisted an open box of doughnuts or cookies or chocolate bar...it wasn't until an XL blouse I bought on-line wouldn't fit at all that I summoned the courage to weigh myself. My diabetes was out of control, and I was at my high weight again, 220 pounds! Ugh. I need to get back in shape and get my a1c down. This is the best place I know to do that, other folks are in the same boat for different reasons so I never feel isolated even when I am sitting here alone typing away. Thank you to everyone who posts their stories and triumphs and the pitfalls they encounter. I'm 70, I'd like to go out of this life still on my feet if possible, and later rather than sooner!11

Sounds so much like MIL-She was back at it this evening. Just because he didn't go over early to put her garbage can in. We have told her to leave it out there and he will put it away. It can stay out a few hours. She went out and pulled it in. Last time she did it she fell, hit her head and a lady driving by called 911. Dh got over there when the ambulance etc was there. She was fine.
He came so upset/mad- after about 20 min of going off, he went in and laid down and slept a few hours. Just got up to eat before going back to bed-working at 2AM tomorrow.
Guess my talk with her didn't do anything.
I will call the garbage company. I heard that if you call and say you need help with putting the cans out or putting them away to just let them know and the garbage guy will do it for her.
I will be calling Monday.

Keep doing it anyway!
It's not going to work miracles the very first time. You've got to be consistent.

Good evening Everyone. I have just read about 12 pages but didn't take notes.
Machka: I love your Christmas letter! And Christmas tree!
Debbie: I hope your MIL eases up over the next couple of weeks so you can have a good holiday season.
Allie: I am not sure who suggested Smiles as Miles is nick name, but I certainly agree.
Heather: My husband was the same about finances. He did give me a power of attorney if he became incapictated. One night I couldn't sleep. He was sleeping downstairs by this time. I got up went downstairs, woke him up and said in the morning you are going to transfer X amount of funds to the joint account. Then I went back upstairs and fell asleep. He transferred the funds in the morning. He knew I was right.
Annie: We did have a stair lift for at least a year maybe longer. I can see that it may not be used very long or be safe for your Mom. The stairs aren't so safe either because she could cause you or your Dad to fall if she loses her balance. Any chance of putting the hospital bed to the side and setting up your
parents bed downstairs. If your Dad slept downstairs maybe your Mom would sleep downstairs. Your doing a great job caring for your parents!
I hope to take some notes tomorrow and post more.
I have been decluttering and have made strides with this. My weight is up and I have found a December challenge where there is a walking video every day. I believe these videos are better than regular walking because they incorporate other exercises. I feel better after I do them. Went downtown with some friends to see the Christmas lights. I still haven't heard from my son when he is coming home for Christmas. Sigh...I am still getting use to having a married adult child!
My son was scanning the Internet and found the website where he went to summer camp in 2005. Apparently the camp posts pictures by year on the website. They had pictures going back before 2005. There were 12 pictures of my son on the website. What a delight to find! I wish my husband could have seen the pictures! I am working on getting them printed out!
I have eye strain and went for an eye exam. I need new lenses and they are very strong lenses for farsighted people and would be very thick if I didn't pay for the thinner lenses. So I will re-use the frames I have and I purchased vision insurance. Between the 2 I am saving $400 over what I paid last time I needed glasses. I am pleased!
Best,

Good morning ladies!
Rosemarie last time my mom slept downstairs in a chair was when she broke her shoulder. Dad slept on the couch with her. So I imagine he would do the same if she was in the hospital bed. I can't think how we could get their bed downstairs or where it could go, but I will think on it. Good idea!
They spend a fair amount of daytime sleeping on the couch, Mom upright in her spot, and Dad stretched out. They could do that all night. But no, Mom insists on climbing the stairs. You are right, it is dangerous.
It has been sad watching Dad this season. He forgot how the decorations go. He forgot the advent wreath until late, then he forgot the little verse for lighting the candles. Things he did my whole life.
Machka I do say things like that. Lovely berries!
Deadenddiva welcome!
Evelyn hope you feel better!
Tina sorry to hear about the mister's job.
Pip hope your brother fares well. Families are a blessing and a scourge.
That reminds me, I sent an email to my cousin maybe two weeks ago about my mom. He hasn't responded. Either he is mad at me or he never got the email. Hmmm. It's time for my dad to inform the whole family with his group email. That will be a challenge to get done.
Have a great day ladies!

Had an awful, wakeful, night with aches and nausea. This morning I decided to go back to bed. Managed to find a painkiller combo that worked and fell blissfully, heavily, asleep. 90 minutes later I surfaced.
While I was fast asleep, Edie had asked if she could come over this afternoon. John had put her off. He's right, but I still feel sad.
I managed to eat lunch! Gradually feeling better.
Haven't had anything quite like that before. No fever, but really fluey and nauseous.
On the mend I think.
I will try to finish the Christmas cards later today, otherwise taking it easy in my pj's, and waiting for Amazon. Must clean my teeth!!!
Love Heather UK xxxxxx5 -
Heather- Gee sure do hope you feel better
And Annie, like I said try some of the old time music it works wonders.
Im awake ,but still.snuggled in bed with Alfie..2 -
Welcomes!
Hugs!
We had a wonderful day yesterday. The weather was pleasant. We shopped one side of the town. Today we will shop the other side. They are calling for rain around 1, but we brought rain gear and umbrella. I won't get as many steps as we will drive into town instead of walking. Oh well, better that carrying packages in the rain.
My DH wishes I was a better drinker.....I had two, then got the hiccups. He drank my 3rd in addition to his beer. My tummy just doesn't handle it well. Not a hateful thing to not be good at. Lol! He snoozed away at 9 pm. Unfortunately, I was up til 1 am. Ladies came into room next door and were loud! He is still asleep.
We ate breakfast and dinner yesterday. After breakfast, in spite of 10k steps, I really wasn't hungry again. The joints hurt today due to the salt. DH requires food, though he has to start walking more. His belly is too big for a pre-diabetic. Let's see if I can make that happen. Drinks and snacks too much. I can encourage, but can't do it for him. The thought of buying larger shirts might be his encouragement.....
Machka Love the raspberries!
