Did Kelly Coffee Meyers Body Sculpt Workout DVD and then since it was raining out did Leslie Sansone’s 5 Day Slim Down DVD. Then went to WalMart. Made the chicken bacon ranch pasta salad for bowling tomorrow (they’re celebrating the birthdays and also having the Christmas party). Plan to make the pierogi later today since it’s raining out and we can’t decorate outside

Heather – Vince enjoys decorating the trees and decorating outside. I enjoy the outside and stringing the popcorn – not so much the decorating.
M – there are 3-1/2 more trees downstairs. The house is 5,000 sq ft
Annie – my MIL made the original elf costume when I was probably in my 20’s. She made the “dress” out of this really clingy material and was it ever short! When I was in my 20’s I could probably get away with that. Not today. So I had someone make a new “dress” for me. Behind me is the tree she made. Yea for you walking! Glad to see you are keeping up with your exercising despite everything. You do what you can when you can and that’s important.
judefit – wb! Evening binge snacking is my downfall, too. I try to do some craft at night or go downstairs away from the kitchen
Luanne – welcome! Shenandoah Valley is such a pretty area. My cousin lived in that area. Also loved driving thru it when we’d went to Reston
Lisa – I really like how your sunroom looks like it was built with the house – not an addon. Looks very inviting.

I spent the day yesterday doing nothing. I needed it. I think it helped my illness as I feel al bit better today. I really hate being sick like this. Never was this long before though.
Got up at 6:30 this morning to 13 degrees outside! Yesterday it was 75 during the day. It is 9 am and has already claimed to 41 so the hose may thaw out enough for me to do wash. The rangers gave my DH and neighbor permission to move them to the ‘shop’ and my DH hooked them up. However, the washer has a hose that has to run outside, so if frozen, no go. I’m glad they let us keep the washer/dryer duo. I really didn’t want to go back to laundromat.
Machka! love seeing the spring flowers and garden. What do you have growing? Giving me ideas of what to plan next spring here.

Finally got caught up on all the posts. 15 days til Christmas and I still haven’t put up my Christmas tree. Maybe I’ll just put my Charlie Brown tree up. We don’t get many visitors, so we’d be the only one who’d see it. No biggie tho.
Went with my husband to his work Christmas party last night. Lots of yummy food. I done good tho. Just got a small helping of the foods I like. Meat included 1 chicken tender and a small piece of smoked pork. I stayed away from the ham because of the high sodium in it. I actually managed to stay under my calorie deficit.
I’m catching up on my laundry since I didn’t get to go to church today. Husband ended up having to go in to work. He cleans the OR rooms at the hospital after surgeries. He’s on call this weekend. They had 3 scheduled this morning. I could’ve gotten someone to come and pick me up, but I don’t like to trouble people. Just how I’ve always been. Our church holiday dinner was today also.
I hope everyone has a great day. Cold and rainy here so I’m staying inside where it’s warm and dry.

Michele, You look wonderful in your elf costume. How creative to be able to update it for your more mature self.Heather, I read the book you recommended about emotionally immature people. It helped solidify a lot of things I'd thought before. I also heard the author interviewed on a podcast which added to my understanding. What you said about reading a book struck home with me and I was reminded of a great children's book that I read to my students. The book is "Petunia" by Roger Duvoisin. It is about a goose who heard that people love books and own them become wise, so when she finds a book, she carries it under her wing and concludes that she is wise. That puffs her up so much that she begins to give advice (all of it wrong) until her advice causes harm to all her friends and an explosion causes the book to open and she realizes that there are words inside and reading the words will help her become wise, not just carrying the book around.toxic people My mother was not nearly as toxic as some I've read about on this thread but she had a history of putting me down that didn't feel good. In my 30's it seemed to me that she was bugging me all the time and she believed that she never saw me or heard from me. My solution was to visit every Saturday morning at 8 AM. That was I knew I was keeping in touch with her, and she couldn't claim that she "never heard from me". When my life took me out of town on weekends, I called her every Saturday morning at 8AM and did that until her health was such that I visited her daily. With practice, I could ignore her hurtful comments. On a recent podcast with someone I admire, I heard, "don't tell me what's important to you, let me look at your schedule". If exercise is important, do you do it? If your family is important, do you spend time with them? If you spend time with holiday chores, is it because you love doing them or because it's expected or you've always done them? Or is your schedule filled with house cleaning or solitaire or Netflix or phone calls with people who annoy you or other things you say aren't important? I hope everyone who is spending their time with holiday baking, decorating, and crafts is getting the joy from the activities. I am enjoying all the pictures. My Sunday walking friend is out of town so I have a an extra hour for me. I walked this morning before going to the grocery store and will walk again, but I have this hour for me and am using some of it to spend time with all of you and to mend the hot dog toy that Annie chewed a hole in. She is a vigorous chewer and probably shouldn't have the cute fabric stuffed toys but they are so cute, I can't resist.Rita, I got a washer and dryer in my house for the first time when I was 34 years old and have not lost the daily gratitude of not having to go to the laundromat.

I really don't feel like cleaning or getting ready for this get together this afternoon. I feel like lounging on the bed and reading. I feel pressured. I suppose once I get going I will get into the groove!

Heather I even like to use the D word anymore (diet). I know as I am trying to eliminate grains I say I am making different choices in what I eat and what I am exposing myself to.
Friend at church recommends adding gum to cookies so they have a better shape she is going to give me some on Wednesday to see how I like it. I am going to look into Arrowroot and Tapioca starch.
We had a harpist accompany us in our Sing a song of Christmas that took it to a whole new level. You know how outstanding she was because everyone stayed for the postlude and were absolutely quiet. She got a standing ovation!6 -
Yes, Margaret. Xanthum Gum. It doesn't take much.
For baking, I usually use cup for cup types of floor which already have the xanthum gum in them. That way I can use my regular recipes, and just substitute the gluten free baking flour.

Our Main tree. This was my first attempt at crochet (probably about 25+ years ago)
Our small tree. I made the tree skirt. Vince made the ceramic tree (it's 3 separate pieces)
I also strung all this popcorn. Remember that I'd start in May so that I can do it on my deck? Well, this is the result.

Beth, just read about your mom, her fall and the oxygen making her less confused. When my dad was in hospital before he passed, I wondered if he was developing dementia but was told that because his heart wasn’t working well, (he had about 20% function,) his brain was being properly oxygenated which is why he seemed confused. Maybe your mom, for one reason or another, is having a similar issue. Sure hope the pneumonia and Covid are mild!

These are the first three garden beds I hacked up with the mattock and dug out all the weeds.
Now they've got veggies coming up!
Great job on the garden beds! You will have a harvest before you know it? My sister has garden beds in large galvanized tubs. Some are cinder block ones. She has lots of rabbits, foxes, and nutras. So I know if she didn't have the beds she'd be fighting them. Now I am not positive rabbits don't hop into her tubs now.

Yippee!!!! We made the pierogi today AND ONE BROKE!!!! For the past 2 years none broke but this year one did!!!!!!Either I made them larger (I think maybe I did) and I'm REALLY stuffing them. So didn't make as many this year as in the past. Oh well...fewer leftovers

Happy Sunday, all! I am enjoying all of the pics of everyone's Christmas decorations! AND holiday outfits.
Michele- Your trees are lovely and well done on the tree skirts! Your elf outfit is cute and you look cute in it.
Katiebug- I LOVE red and plaids so your outift is right up my alley (fashion wise)! Are those shiny silver buckles on your shoes?! You look great!
Pip- I always knew that wet photo of Yogi was a fantastic pic! I remember when you posted it. It is perfect! Such a handsome boy!
Heather- I will say it again; it warms my heart to see your grands spending so much time with you (and wanting to spend more time). Gah! Max and Edie at that age where phones and "bodies" enter the picture. Ugh! And Edie and the whole body image mentality. Unfortunately for girls (especially nowadays with social media and the ability to filter/alter images) body image can be so harmful.
Beth- Sorry to hear about your mom's fall; but glad she seems to be recovering well. Sending you (and her) lots of love.
Annie- I am so happy you are able to fit in time for yourself. For exercise or just relaxing/reading. You need that. I am so sorry for all that you are having to manage with caring for your mom (and dad). When my DH and I were helping with the care of his mom she was stubborn, ornery, and very hard to get her to do anything she was supposed to be doing. (exercises, medication, meals). At times her dementia was severe where she didn't recognize people, her home, etc. Or she would see things that weren't there and it would upset her to the point that she would leave the house. SOOOO HAAARRD! I am glad you have help with her care and I would say take all of the help from family that is offered. Even if they want to come and "visit" for a couple of hours a week. Take it and use that time to recharge your own batteries.
Debbie- Most times bullies just need someone to stand up to them and tell them that what they are doing is not going to be tolerated anymore. Your MIL is a bully. Brava for you for standing up to her. As her son, I would imagine doing that would be harder or impossible for your DH. It could also be a cultural thing. Even though he may have been raised in America; he may also have been raised with "old country" values and ways. I am sure his mama isn't making it easy for him to leave that behind (especially where it concerns her).

Been a busy week here. I had a local news station at my childcare to interview me about my childcare business and the projects/curriculum that I use to teach the kids. They were very interested in the egg carton spaceship and our space theme and they got film of the Christmas Treepee and a few other things around my house. While they interviewed me the kids were playing and jumping around "being frogs". lol They were quite loud and when I asked the cameraman if he wanted me to ask them to quiet down, he said, "No, they are fine. We can fix that during editing." Ahhhh! The magic of tv. They are going to send me a link before it airs. I just hope I come out sounding like I have a brain. (pretty sure I babbled alot). We also had the LaMore family holiday gathering yesterday. This was the first family gathering we have had since COVID. It was very nice to see everyone and chat. My favorite aunt on my hubby's side was there. She is my late MIL's sister. She is 84 and pulled me aside to urge me to write a book. SO....I will see if I can take 30 minutes a day and compile all of the notes, posts, words I have scribbled over the past 30 years about my childcare career and make that happen for her. And for me. It would be nice to see that dream realized.
That's all I have for now. No big exercises done, no weight gained or lost. Just nose to the grindstone, having fun with the littles, making my way through the holidays. lol ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Ginny - I sure hope they can find some helpful alternative treatments for foot. You are doing an admirable job walking 30 minutes even with foot pain. Interesting about your SIL's roommate passing, and your SIL's disinterest in cooking. I wonder what she's been eating?
Michele - you are an adorable elf. Neat plate, by the way. I think you set the record for all those trees, lol. Do you entertain a lot or did you in the past? Looks like the ornaments hold a lot of memories for you. I can see why you start stringing popcorn in the summer. That broken pierogi.... I'll eat it!
Lisa - that addition looks great and I too can't wait to see the inside finished! I see my word for 2023 was Journey. I think that fits.
Rita - I didn't realize the cold weather was settling in down your way. Hope it warms up soon so you can get your laundry done. Glad you are feeling better.

Sue in WA - is the water in your pastures going down? I'm afraid quite a bit leaked into my chicken run last night (I got about 1 1/2" in 6 hours) but I knew how to handle it this time and dumped a lot of straw in there this morning. Grateful the 10 day forecast only shows a few showery days and no cold nights (low's in the mid-upper 30's) around here.
Evie - interesting about your dad and low O2. I wonder if part of my DH's dementia was caused by his COPD and of course, PAD/and poor circulation from years of smoking.
Machka - love the photos of your raised beds and growing garden. Keep 'em coming.
Heather - glad you are feeling better. The pastel drawing is beautiful, at first I thought it was a water color. You are really getting the hang of this.
Kay - what a cute outfit, you look great. Have a safe drive.
Gina - good job focusing on good foods at your DH's Christmas party. He has an interesting and important job for sure. I'm always amazed at and grateful for the dedicated staff "behind the scenes" in operating rooms.

Margaret - your outside decorations are so nice, gives me some ideas. Sorry about the shortage of mail carriers in your area. Seems like we have high turnover here but the mail gets here every day- sometimes not until real, real late. How nice to have a harpist at your service this morning! Love "A Dog's Friend."

I'm with you. I hate to feel pressured to get something done if my heart isn't in it, but generally once I start I get in the groove.
KJ - so cool they interviewed you for TV! I bet you were wonderful. Let us know if it's going to be on the TV Station's webpage or Youtube so we can watch.
Terri - Heather - Kay - Luanne I totally agree, focusing on health - eating nutritious food, cutting out junk carbs and getting some exercise will eventually put us where we should be (not where some chart says we should be, lol.) without having to shift into "diet brain" to accomplish weight loss. I've slipped into the "overweight" category and I'm feeling good so no worries. Like Heather said, better in the long run for us to carry a little extra.
Better close. I just finished the Christmas cards and need to pick up a couple gift cards this week and I'm calling it done.

Good morning, ladies.
Michele your trees are stunning and you look so cute in your elf costume. I don't do a big tree anymore as I don't have the energy but decided that I needed a bit of something to compliment my tabletop tree so opted for the Christmas Village and I know that I will enjoy building on it in the coming years.
Lisa your sunroom looks so nice and looking forward to pics of the inside.

Beth, so sorry to hear of your mother's fall.
Starting on my baking this afternoon. Will be making butter tarts as well as coconut ones. Have the pastry made so not too much of a chore. Giving my sister a call this morning which I know will turn into about a two hour event. Enjoy catching up with all her news.
