Did Kelly Coffee Meyers Body Sculpt Workout DVD and then since it was raining out did Leslie Sansone’s 5 Day Slim Down DVD. Then went to WalMart. Made the chicken bacon ranch pasta salad for bowling tomorrow (they’re celebrating the birthdays and also having the Christmas party). Plan to make the pierogi later today since it’s raining out and we can’t decorate outside
Beth – you’ve had so much to deal with. So sorry to hear about your mom
Ginny – I’m sorry about your SIL’s housemate. Please take care of yourself Hope you feel better fast
Heather – Vince enjoys decorating the trees and decorating outside. I enjoy the outside and stringing the popcorn – not so much the decorating.
M – there are 3-1/2 more trees downstairs. The house is 5,000 sq ft
Annie – my MIL made the original elf costume when I was probably in my 20’s. She made the “dress” out of this really clingy material and was it ever short! When I was in my 20’s I could probably get away with that. Not today. So I had someone make a new “dress” for me. Behind me is the tree she made. Yea for you walking! Glad to see you are keeping up with your exercising despite everything. You do what you can when you can and that’s important.
judefit – wb! Evening binge snacking is my downfall, too. I try to do some craft at night or go downstairs away from the kitchen
Luanne – welcome! Shenandoah Valley is such a pretty area. My cousin lived in that area. Also loved driving thru it when we’d went to Reston
Lisa – I really like how your sunroom looks like it was built with the house – not an addon. Looks very inviting.
Heather – I’d say that your picture is more than OK

You've got a massive house!
Ours is 1100 square feet plus about half that of somewhat usable space in the basement.

Michele, You look wonderful in your elf costume. How creative to be able to update it for your more mature self.
Heather, I read the book you recommended about emotionally immature people. It helped solidify a lot of things I'd thought before. I also heard the author interviewed on a podcast which added to my understanding. What you said about reading a book struck home with me and I was reminded of a great children's book that I read to my students. The book is "Petunia" by Roger Duvoisin. It is about a goose who heard that people love books and own them become wise, so when she finds a book, she carries it under her wing and concludes that she is wise. That puffs her up so much that she begins to give advice (all of it wrong) until her advice causes harm to all her friends and an explosion causes the book to open and she realizes that there are words inside and reading the words will help her become wise, not just carrying the book around.
toxic people My mother was not nearly as toxic as some I've read about on this thread but she had a history of putting me down that didn't feel good. In my 30's it seemed to me that she was bugging me all the time and she believed that she never saw me or heard from me. My solution was to visit every Saturday morning at 8 AM. That was I knew I was keeping in touch with her, and she couldn't claim that she "never heard from me". When my life took me out of town on weekends, I called her every Saturday morning at 8AM and did that until her health was such that I visited her daily. With practice, I could ignore her hurtful comments.
On a recent podcast with someone I admire, I heard, "don't tell me what's important to you, let me look at your schedule". If exercise is important, do you do it? If your family is important, do you spend time with them? If you spend time with holiday chores, is it because you love doing them or because it's expected or you've always done them? Or is your schedule filled with house cleaning or solitaire or Netflix or phone calls with people who annoy you or other things you say aren't important?
I hope everyone who is spending their time with holiday baking, decorating, and crafts is getting the joy from the activities. I am enjoying all the pictures.
My Sunday walking friend is out of town so I have a an extra hour for me. I walked this morning before going to the grocery store and will walk again, but I have this hour for me and am using some of it to spend time with all of you and to mend the hot dog toy that Annie chewed a hole in. She is a vigorous chewer and probably shouldn't have the cute fabric stuffed toys but they are so cute, I can't resist.
Rita, I got a washer and dryer in my house for the first time when I was 34 years old and have not lost the daily gratitude of not having to go to the laundromat.

Thanks for the comments on my outfit. KJ, the decoration on the loafers is gold. After years of wearing silver jewelry after being told I was a ‘Winter” back in the 80s, I discovered that I have a warm undertone and am actually an “Autumn”. It’s been a shift for me, but I’m trying to embrace gold. Some days I just say what the heck and wear my silver anyway.
I totally agree on the importance of movement and strength training. I work on seven core areas for an overall spirit, mind, body approach to health: sleep, rest, worship, hydration, movement, exercise, and food. It takes a balance with the food and exercise. You need a bit of a calorie deficit, but too much of one will cause cravings, resulting in bingeing.
My granddaughter’s dance recital was good. She did great. The commute went smoothly with my audio book.7 -
Hi everyone.. just called commiting again to this tracking and weight goal. I am a first time grandma and have more than 60 pounds I'd like to lose . Have annual checkup on February so will see what status is by then.. I will be honest as can be so we can decide a plan if I don't see results.. enjoyed reading this thread and am happy to be back.8

Machka, I read your posts and your schedule includes a lot of cycling, gardening, home care, time with your husband, and other pastimes along with work. You find many things important and make time for them.

MIchele, since people are calling your cell phone why don't you take a few minutes each day to check for messages.2

Latest addition to our back patio. It hides ugly thing for the back irrigation system that doesn’t work. I love it!

Terri & Heather - I'll add that walking workouts combined with strength exercises seem to help balance too - at least that's my observation.
I also think back to my farmer grandmothers who lived well into their 90's - they never saw a resistance band or a dumb bell, but they maintained strength, bone health and even avoided dementia I'm guessing by carrying buckets of feed, hoeing the garden, toting baskets of laundry out to the clothesline. That type of work. All of that bending and lifting and stretching. Makes me appreciate the activities I can do around my place.

One of the reasons I enjoy hacking away at the garden beds with the mattock is that I am getting a workout. 😀5 -

Apparently I am a summer and I do like the summer colours (the blues, greens, purples etc.) but I have never been overly fond of silver jewellery ... I prefer gold. Plus I wear a lot of black and grey and feel very comfortable in those colours.
Today, however, I am wearing a fairly bright pink. A new top I got yesterday and a colour I have not worn in a long time. I thought I would give it a go.

Ginny - I popped over and found your November reference, and left instructions... hopefully the lady will be able to find us. I'm sorry you feel like ca-ca! Hope your stomach bug turns around quickly.
Michele - Love the elf suit!
Beth - Hope your mama's doing better. Pneumonia's no joke.
Bit of middle-of-the-night insomnia - something, possibly a deer or a stray dog, wandering around near the gate, triggered the alarm half a half dozen times. Doesn't happen often, but it caught me right after a midnight visit to the littlest room in the house... should be able to go back to sleep soon.
Deliveries from a couple directions coming sometime during the day - we're supposed to get the propane stove in for the sunroom, and then inside materials from Home Depot. Knotty cedar for the walls, ceiling panels, insulation for ceiling, walls and floor, and a few other things. I think it was Ginny who asked, and yes, we're insulating so we can use the room year-round.
And I found a reasonably priced Tunisian crochet set, basically afghan needles, if you've ever used them, but with cables that allow you to make something up to four feet wide.
OK, back to bed for me...
Love y'all!

Michele-I agree with you about being upset someone posted your phone number in a public forum without your permission. However, the people who rely on landlines are pretty much becoming the n the minority-cell phones are the legitimate alternative if not the only means of contact. We got rid of our landline 9 or so years ago. We couldn't see spending the money for both services.
Lisa-thanks for handling-I think I am going to copy and save the instructions! And yes-I was asking about heating for the sun room. Propane stove sounds like perfect solution!
Pip-you come up with the coolest decorating ideas.
At this early hour it seems that stomach stuff has calmed down. At least those body aches have subsided and I haven't had the "pins and needles" pain in stomach for a while. A bit of restless sleep last night as it was leaving. If you ladies get any symptoms-please learn from Heather and I-rest and let yourself heal. Work colleague said he still wasn't feeling 100% after 4 days of it (but then, no one ever got a cold as bad as my husband
Will leave work early today to make up on things I missed doing yesterday. Need to have a monthly meeting with a staff member (should not be fun) and quick meeting with my executive team-mainly giving them Christmas presents since I will be out until 21st. Tomorrow I get a massage at 11. DIL pushed it-said it may help with some of the arthritis pain (but won't hurt). Also, hotel has indoor pool and I am hoping a hot tub. Have dinner with brothers Tuesday evening and lunch with two coworkers (actually bosses, but we are also friends) for our birthdays on Wednesday-then pick up kids at airport!
Need to get stretches in-missed them for two days while sick.
Take care all,

I had a landline in Canada, but when I moved to Australia 15 years ago, I went to a mobile phone. We just used my husband's for quite a few years, and I finally broke down and got one in 2016 so now we both have one.
We'll even text each other in a store if we've lost each other!
There's absolutely no reason to have a landline at home here anymore, unless you live in a black spot.

We still have our landline. It is the number I give to the state and childcare sites. It is the number I give when any business asks for a number. It really saves us from getting spam and other unwanted solicitor type calls on our cell phones. Only family, close friends, neighbors, and childcare families have my/our cell phone numbers.
My grandmother was 97 or 98 when she passed away. She was widowed in her 70s and lived alone, managed her house and her cabin up north. She was picking apples at her cabin when she died. Her neighbors found her sitting at the base of the apple tree with the basket of apples beside her and a smile on her face. Like she sat down to rest and just went. Nice way to go.12 -

We have a landline but rarely use it. A friend, or my son when we haven't answered our cell phones.
I went out food shopping this morning, but fear I'm not quite over the virus. Back pain, thigh pain, a little nauseous. I'm retiring to bed this afternoon while the cleaner is here, and will finish off the last of the Christmas cards. I posted the first batch this morning. It's nice this year as I'm sending my own designs that I painted last January and had printed. Robins, and a tree. John did a round robin for his, but I'm just scribbling a quick message in mine.
Don't really feel like cooking, but I can stick a couple of duck legs in the oven. Broccoli.
Collected up most of our paintings for taking upstairs to the pile. Only left a couple of new ones. I'm going to try a decoration in that space with big silver baubles.

Welcome to all the new ladies who are posting. When I first started MFP I lost about 10 lbs. but am just trying to hold my weight at 171 lbs. now. The highest I have ever weighed was 174. At 75 years old, it is OK. I agree with Heather and Katy that being too diet conscientious is not the best way to live. When I was in my 20's and 30's I did everything I could to keep my weight at 125. In my late 40's I could no longer maintain that weight and it slowly crept up. A lot of this is due to my love of wine in the evenings along with depression and a few health problems. So there it is!
Michele ~ Love your elf costume. You look so cute and love your hair and dimples. Beautiful Christmas trees.
Beth ~ So sorry your mom has caught that dreaded disease. Healing prayers for her.
Machka ~ Your garden looks so well tended. Hope you enjoy all you and your husband have planted.
Lisa ~ Lady, you are a hard worker and are wonderful asset to Cory. The outside of the sun room looks great and the white around the windows sets off the blue.
Joy ~ Your Christmas village is sweet.

Thx. I will have kirby move it so you can see what it looked like. That stand is intended to be a planter box . We had some plywood in the garage so I had him make plates to insert them in the boxes so we could put some of our plants in there. I had some leftover lights so whalaaaa!
I was thinking about removing the bush beside it, but it ended up staying there. Last time I put lights on the bush but las 2 times that I did I ended up cutting the lights when I was trimming the op of the bush.3 -
Morning from the VERY chilly Arkansas River Valley, 19 f (-7c) up here in the foothills, though the weather folks say it's 28.
They're wrong.
Ginny, I'm glad you woke up feeling better, and Heather, I'm sorry yours is still hanging on! Vicky, hope the bronchitis has let loose, and that you're feeling better, too. It's so hard to be ill this time of year, and especially for those who are still working outside the home...
Carol - Thank you for that compliment, dear heart. I do as much as I can on any given day to help Corey with this huge job he took on, but have seldom felt up to being much help these last few months. He does not EVER make me feel like I'm slacking, and in fact has sent me back in the house more than once. He knows my limits much better than I do on some days, and I'm so grateful to have him in my life.
Allie - I worry too, about Katla. Shout out, as well, to Kim and Karen. Missing you guys...
Enjoying watching the fire while noshing on my breakfast quesadilla... One of the deliveries called and postponed until tomorrow, which was fine with me! Hope the others get here, but what happens will happen.
Hope it's a good Monday, past present or future,

Just had a text from my friend P, to say that they took her granddaughter to the doctor and then hospital this morning, because she had been drinking a lot since Friday. The father got a home BS test. The little girl is only 6 years old. Yes, it is Type 1 Diabetes.
Of course my friend is v upset, but she is a doctor, so knows all the latest advances. But it is still a confounded nuisance! And such a sweet, athletic child!
Finished my cards! Hooray! John says he will do the neighbours. Stamps are ridiculously expensive now.
I've just ordered some battery lights with thin wires to go around the baubles. Our fancy lights are plug in and it is too far to the socket from where I want them. Arriving tomorrow. It will be instead of a tree this year. John mentioned a tree this morning, but didn't seem too bothered. I will explain my deco idea. It's just something seasonal for the kids on Christmas Eve. I think I'm going to have to order even more batteries! We have other battery lights, but none with the thin silver wire.

Good morning ladies!
I am working on Christmas gift ideas for friends and relatives from me and from Mom. I try not to eat candy so I feel awkward giving it, but Mom seems to think it's the default this year.
Mom is mostly keeping up, her decline is very slow. She is still going up the stairs at night. She keeps asking about getting rid of the hospital bed.
I think I volunteered to do a Christmas breakfast at our house. I said we could have some pastries. Which means coffee and tea and maybe an egg casserole thingie. It really is our turn, and mom can't go anywhere, and it can't be as hard as I fear.
Anyway today I just have to order presents.
Have a great day,
Annie in Delaware8
