Ack I’m a week behind in my accountability stats and in reading. Will catch up one day at a time…
Barbie the pic of best friends Annie and Bessie.
Rebecca Mama organized her photo albums and tossed a lot of old photos she thought I wouldn’t be interested in. Afraid my grief was obvious. There where photos of her as a young woman, papa as a young sailor, me as a toddler, that I remembered from playing with the photo albums, that are gone forever. Your boys might not be so sentimental ;}
Lanette usually it’s my knees that out predict the weatherman, not the shin… What sad news about your sister’s DIL. A hard holiday for the family.
Laurie Next time you head through on your way to Florence, PM me and we can meet for a stroll at Lone Ranch if the tide’s out...
Lisa thanks for the “book of Kel’s…’

going to stay up a bit later tonight- Talked with former father in law and asked him what I could make for him. I know that most of the candies I make he can't eat(nothing with nuts or the caramel corn because of his dentures. He said oatmeal raisin cookies and choc. chip cookies. Sugar cookies for former mother in law. Extra work but I am happy to make them for both of them.
Dh loves oatmeal raisin cookies too so making a batch, with nuts, for him. So, four batches of dough to do. Three already done, just need to do the sugar cookie dough. Will chill all of it overnight then bake in the morning. Will be nice to warm the house up.
After the last back of dough is in the fridge, I need to start on the nut clusters. Peanut, cashew and macadamia nut clusters to get done tonight so they can chill and I can get them packed up.
Want to get the package to former inlaws and former hubby in the mail on Thursday(tomorrow if I get them done in time but don't think I will get them cooled and packed in time. Thursday morning will be fine.
I plan on giving out all the treats by Saturday so I can get my kitchen back to where it was. Son and his girlfriend want to do some baking too.

Kelly - the interview was fantastic!
Rosemarie - Like Lanette I wondered if your fatigue wasn’t post Covid. It took me months to feel refreshed again.
It is wise to check with your doctor if it continues either way though.
Lanette - I agree about exercise helping with depression. I told hubby he needed to get back to the gym again for that reason.
I watch all of the music shows, I have music on a lot and I always find myself dancing a little bit.
I also get up at least once every 20-30 minutes to putter and move. I have found it really has helped my back and hip.
Although I almost slipped the other day and my hip is being a pain (pun intended) again.
Machka - I need to get back to drinking more water. For a while I only drank water and I need to get back to that, I don’t know why, I get it and then it just sits there.
Lisa - I love your pottery. I hope you find some relief soon.
Rita - I don’t know how true this is and can’t remember where I read it to verify, but something else the scammers are doing is changing for example an “a” using a different keyboard setting so it looks normal to us, but is actually another symbol altogether than what we are seeing. I don’t trust any of them.
I have a long note that I’ve been writing since Saturday that I haven’t found the time to post.
I presented my presentation today, I had it done and ready to go for yesterday but was not happy with it. Since I didn’t have to present until today I ended up redoing the whole thing yesterday. In the end I was happier with it and received a perfect mark.
Now to get some Christmas stuff finished

Nice to see you, Tracey. How great that you got your presentation the way you wanted it in the end. A good feeling.
Barbara - I don't know how John does it either. Bea just thinks he is the best thing ever, as did all of them. He is totally able to enter into their world and has endless patience. He says he is making up for his own miserable childhood, but I think it is some kind of genius, like Mozart. There is no accounting for it, and you wouldn't believe it if you hadn't seen it with your own eyes. Last night there were endless games of not being able to say 'yes' or 'no', games of 'which hand has the mint in it?' on the way home from school, and some very long song she and a friend had made up, which was an intro to 'Rock, Paper, Scissors'. It had all the moves with it. He must have done it 20 times. Edie and I just rolled our eyes. The song and moves were brilliant by the way!!! Worthy of Cole Porter.
One line was, 'Had a baby, name was Daisy', while you made a rocking mime.
I sit serenely on an arm chair and observe and applaud. Edie comes to chat to me. I make tea and give John a mince pie.
Their front yard is half full of huge bags of coarse sand and sacks of concrete, for the patio being laid soon. Then it will be tiled. I think the idea is to match the level and colour of the kitchen.
I did a sort of decoration yesterday for the dining room, after the silver wire lights arrived. I like it. It's my silver huge balls (Indian), in a bowl, with some silver twigs behind it in a vase. Lights draped around. Instead of a tree. It suits my minimalist soul. Just have to make sure Bea doesn't play with it!

Rebecca: Well Done! Middle son!

Good morning ladies!
My Christmas funk is starting. Too many errands, and no fun. Plus my mom started taking nausea meds last night. Maybe I need some exercise. I didn't sleep much last night. And I haven't been out of the house in a week. No wonder I feel down.
I still have to buy stuff for the stockings. And then figure out groceries.
My sister might be coming. That's the bright spot. But she was having trouble booking a flight.
Hope you all have a good day,
Annie in Delaware

Margaret - are you finding some good recipes using almond and coconut flour? I ran across a "chaffle" recipe yesterday using almond flour - I'm going to try it to see what it's all about. If it gums up my ancient waffle iron, I guess it was time for a new one anyhow.
This came from "Keto Simple Recipes" I follow on FB. Should be a nice high protein snack.
Barbara - good to see you back. Have fun baking cookies. Finally!
Lisa - hope the next round of acupuncture helps.
Annie - crossing fingers your sis can get a flight. Do you think your folks would notice or care if you didn't have items for the Christmas stockings? I'd be tempted to go through the closets or pantry and rewrap items from prior years just to have "something for them to open", but that might not work at your house. ((HUGS))).
Have a good day everyone!

Annie - Cut what you have to do to the bare minimum. One small 'stocking present' each will suffice. Amazon have loads of suggestions. Get food delivered. Get ready prepared stuff for your meals. Christmas TV dinners? You are carrying such a heavy load.
Would people at your dad's church help out? Someone might be delighted to shop, or make a dish or two. Now is the time to ask for help and lean on people.
Heard a Clutterbug video about last minute presents from Amazon. I went online and bought the 'lying duck' nightlight for Max. As an early teenager, he does a lot of lying down. 'I'm tired!' It is rechargeable and also acts as a phone holder. He is getting two books, chosen by John, and cash, but I couldn't resist the duck!
John is making the bread sauce this afternoon.
We have roasted butternut squash for dinner, which John is kindly peeling and cutting up for us. Broccoli. And skinless, boneless, chicken thighs, roasted with mini chorizo. Yum.

Annie - Good to see you, dear heart, sorry things are piling up on your mind and heart, I know it's hard. Gentle hugs, held extra long. Hope your sister can get there soon and you can get a break. Heather had some great suggestions for you.
Heather - I'm more on your side than your husband's. I'm always amazed by folks like John and KJ who have endless patience with children. I simply don't. Corey has it too, at much more of an extent than I do. Post a picture of your minimalist Christmas baubles with them lit up! Sounds lovely and serene, as your decorations usually are. How is your friend's granddaughter? Hope you and your son have shaken the remainder of the virus.
Tracey - It's good to see you. Glad you trusted your instincts on the presentation. Knowing when it's not quite right is a gift, but can be exhausting! Proud of that for you.
Machka - And that's why you got your job, because you're so good at what you do! Hope your database is a raging success and well rewarded.
Rebecca - So pleased about your middle son's graduation, and love knowing that your heart lifts every time your youngest (and oldest) call. In the case of the younger, it is partially a benefit of the long, painful separation, but it was an awful long time wandering in the wilderness before finding the promise of the new connection.
Barbara AHMOD - So pleased your oven is fixed, and in time for Christmas!
Luannelizabeth - Logging food holds many, many benefits beyond just totting up your calories. It is always an eye-opener for me how much I've been lying to myself about my intake, as it's really easy to underestimate calories. Finding the truth is always a shock. I always log for a week without trying to change my eating habits, but find that simply knowing I have to write it down will prevent me from eating a lot of different things. Logging makes you own your food intake, stop lying to yourself, understand how much your outgo (exercise) affects your calorie intake, and see how to balance your protein/carbs/fat intake in healthier ways, before you ever start trying to restrict your calories. The keys are absolute honesty, measuring every bite and crumb, and precision--a kitchen scale is a cheap way to keep yourself honest.
Rosemarie - As others have said, the fatigue could be driven by grief, or covid, or the early darkness of winter. Just don't beat up on yourself or expect more of yourself than you can give right now. It really is OK to sit down, or nap. Think of it as medicine for what ails you.
Lanette - I'm so sorry about those young men. It's terrible anytime, but it does seem worse at this time of year. Glad you had a lovely sunny day - we're supposed to have a few in a row, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Pip - The fingernails are spiffy, and so is the outside shelf!
Allie - Cats always know! They would walk right past me to get to my ex-husband, who was terribly allergic, as well.
On scams - Be very careful of buying gift cards, particularly at Walmart and Target, for gifts for Christmas. Scammers have figured out how to drain the cards online by snapping a picture of the barcodes in the store, or to spend them ahead of time, while leaving the card intact and back on the display. The scammers are getting ahead of the security designs, and it's getting worse and not better.
More later, my chickens,
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Annie, many hugs to you You have gotten good ideas from others. Simplify, less is more, do the best you can, come from a place of love. Keep all of us in your heart and your head. Take it one day at a time.

Hello from a beautiful Arkansas River Valley morning, 25 degrees warmer than Monday morning, same time... and most appreciated,
Slept for seven straight hours, most unusual, and was then able to go back to sleep for another hour and a half! My body needed it badly, because I feel soooo much better than the last couple of days. Corey thinks it was the pinto beans, which I had by themselves on one night, and then in chili. The timing is about right. They will be removed from future menus. I know that fiber is like razor blades in my gut, but ignored that fact, and paid for it with two days of misery. 😞 Take one "comfort food," off the list, as it is no longer comforting. 🙄
Now that the new propane fireplace is in the sunroom, I can get out there and get some insulation in this morning, even though it's still only in the 40-degree range. It heated that room in just ten minutes or so last night, and once it's insulated in there, will require even less time to make it very comfortable. It was a good decision. I know that everything I can get done is just one less thing for Corey to have to do, so will do what I can. I'm not good at stopping before I overdo, but will try not to... he's had a couple days of worrying about me, and doesn't need any more to add to the list. 🥰
Before I go out to play in the sunroom, though, I want to finish getting my jeans turned into bell-bottoms. The story is, I weighed 303 pounds once upon a time, and the substructure that my body built to support that has some benefits and some drawbacks. The benefit is that all that weight-bearing actually helped diminish my chances of osteoporosis. However, I've never been able to wear knee-high boots, because my calves remain larger than the norm. Unfortunately, size-12 jeans, which are what I'm able to wear now, still just barely fit over my chunky little calves. So, every time I sit down, they ride up. When I get out of a car, I have to bend over and yank my pants legs back down. Annoying. So, I'm bringing back bell bottoms... modifying my jeans to fit my body. Will take a picture when they're done.
Lovely referred sunrise this morning - Our eastern horizon is uphill from us, and tree-covered, so we don't see much sunrise color, but it referred over to the western horizon this morning, to the high clouds:
Hope it is or was a lovely day for all,
Love,

Lanette I bought a brownie mix made with almond flour I baked them in a pan with parchment paper I also added a bit more baking soda so the texture turned out well. They do taste different than made with wheat flour. Still I liked them. I have learned that if I do not want to add guam products made of coconut or almond flour will be more crumbly. So good for bars. I will still try cookies but them will need to be baked on parchment or silicone liner and cooled on them. Extras I will freeze. The flours need extra moisture (eggs or milk) and leavening. Some recipes call for resting. May or may not work because once you add leaving it starts to work and may need to be baked right away. I am finding I am feeling better eating less grains. The foods I am eating do have more fat in them so I am satisfied longer. I am down a few pounds which is not easy this time of year.
I have made pancakes not waffles. Did you find a recipe for them? Still working on making pancakes without crumbling. If you try in waffle iron I would grease it very well even if non stick.5 -
Christmas time is usually a hard time for me. My late husband had a seizure on Christmas Day in 1994 so we spent the day in the emergency, then Jan 4, we found out he HIV positive (died that year in October). It’s gotten better as time goes by, having kirby helps. I still think of Lenny from time to time throughout the days, that never ends, there is no timetable to get over grief11
-
Pip - "there is no timetable to get over grief" is so true!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the "stages of grief" is hogwash.
thinking of everyone grieving someone at this time.
Love kim8 -
Lisa, Oh, no! your advice is too too late! I bought Dave a gift card for his stocking at Target on Monday. Hopefully, the scammers missed that one.
I am starting to feel the Christmas overwhelm. Maybe I can shake it off.

And... got my pants done, time to get in the shower, then my lunchtime phone call with Corey, and hopefully some insulating work when I get back. These took longer than I thought - that perfectionism ruins its ugly head (or thread as the case may be... ) Later, y'all,

Rebecca - What great commitment your middle son has. It is sooo hard doing that with a young family. Many congratulations!
Lisa - Echoes of the 60s. I love them.
Had my Zoom with my friends. The granddaughter is doing well, was only in hospital one night. A regime of pricking and injections for the moment, but eventually there will be a pump etc. Teacher, grandparents, have to be taught how to give injections and monitor. She was just going off swimming and was in great spirits. Lovely girl.
A heron has eaten all B's fish, and G has bedbugs, brought back from a holiday in Cornwall. She is waiting for an extermination company to come, meanwhile she is covered in bites. Utterly miserable.
I had to cut up the squash myself, because John had only just finished the bread sauce. No problem. Delicious dinner. We remembered eating chorizo in red wine in Madrid, and that prompted a look back at the old photos. I can't believe it was 2009 - my 60th! I loved the city, but I had a terribly bad back and was necking painkillers.
Love to all. And remember, it's OK to say NO.

Mondays definitely have new meaning, as that is the day he calls!😁💖. Yes I am very proud of middle! A bit annoyed that they had Granddaughter do a video saying in February its easier if we come down, (though she mentions she has never visited grandma and grandpas house). It seemed coached. If we come down, its a long drive for Lee, we would have to rent a car, and stay at hotel. If they came up they are two able drivers, they can stay here, etc. I have a little over a month to sway them.💖😁

Tracey: Great going on the presentation!
Beth: I hope your Momis doing okay?
Lisa: I love the bell bottoms! Great you will be able use the sunroom all year long!
Michele: I still have the land line. I get very little spam on my cell phone. Maybe this is why.
Ginny: You sound busy...but a good busy!
Machka: I love the sleeves on the pink top!
Vicki: I hope you are feeling better!
Allie: My sympathy to you on two losses this holiday season!
Heather: So sorry about the little girl with Type 1 diabetes. I am glad she is swimming and doing well.
I am glad you are pleased with your new silver decorations. I believe I will put a few lights outside so when my son and DIL arrive they will greeted by lights. I usually do a white tree in blue and silver. I wasn't going to decorate it this year, but maybe for their enjoyment I should. I should order some silver tinsel from Walmart or Amazon when I through with this post. I was also thinking about hanging 3 stockings and having one gift in each stocking. Not sure yet.
Annie: Christmas breakfast will be fun! I sure hope your sister makes it. That would improve everything! Sounds like your getting cabin fever! I hope you can leave the house a little bit. I know I stayed in the house so much during Covid and caring for my husband that I began to develop a little fear of leaving the house. I had to push past that.
Carol: I am surprised you had trouble with Walmart. Walmart on line is really promoting customer service. Yes as others have suggested disputing on the credit card might help. Did you call the 1 800 925 6278 number that Walmart has or are they the ones that were not helpful?
KJLAMORE: Great news segment! I love the space ship and the Christmas stockings! You spoke very well!
Debbie: Thank you for posting the If This Christmas Hits Different Video.
Lanette: Thank you for the Rockin Around the Christmas Tree Video.
Luanne Elizabeth: Yes, logging the meals is a start!
RV Rita: So glad you caught on to the scam. What a pain about needing to freeze the credit cards.
Rebecca: Congrats to your middle son for getting his degree! Great you are h aving so much family contact!
PIpcd: Love your nails!
Thank you to everyone that posted and lifted me up when I was feeling down. Words can not say how much I appreciate this.
I tried to save money and use my eye glasses for 2 years but ended with severe eye strain and am waiting for the new glasses to arrive. I have some improved contacts that I am wearing meanwhile.
My friend's cleaner is great about coming when I need her. Sometimes it can be hard to get a cleaner if you don't have one on a regular basis. Because I only have her come 3 or so times a year I pay her $200.00. If she came on a regular basis I could probably pay less. It is great when she comes. The house is all clean all at once and this is a big boost to my self esteem! She only cleans for 2 hours. She moves very fast. I tell myself if I can clean at a cat rescue I should be able to do the same thing. But I get bored and distracted and never do it. So my house is never clean all at the same time! I should decide soon if I want her to come before the 23rd...if she can fit me in. Or I could save the money which is what I should do!
Or I could save some of the money and have my nails done. This would lift my spirits!
I am spending more time in a bedroom in the house that is painted yellow. It is the only room in the house that is painted a color. I think sitting in all white walls all the time by myself might not be so healthy!
There is a lady at the Cat Rescue about age 25 that seems angry or hormonal for lack of a better word. She is a paid employee and is only there on Wed. She works with the Dogs. If I directly approach her with a question or something she talks to me. Otherwise she ignores me. Today she ran past me went into the Cat house for a minute and then came out of the Cat house and walked right past me. Until now I have ignored her...I lost my husband...I really don't give a darn about her.....but am wondering how to set limits and boundaries with her. For some reason she seems to be testing me. Who knows why.
Any ideas on this?
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

Lisa, your advice about gift cards came to late for me also, I bought three Amazon cards at Superstore for our younger son's family (1 teen and 2 almost teens!). Hopefully they will be fine..... I suspect they will use them as soon as they get them, so maybe that will help... Love the bell bottoms!!
Michele, I don't think I ever answered your question about my latest crochet project. That particular one would be too large for a pincushion, it measures about 10 inches across, but I do have one I made for myself that I use as a pincushion and found one that my mom had made years ago! I have made a few different sizes, and I made one to be used as a ring pillow when DOS and DIL got married. They ended up just taking pics of the rings on it as the ring bearers were both under the age of two and they didn't think that things would end well. They were probably right! lol
Rosemarie, I'm no doctor, but I would be willing to bet that you are suffering some level of depression. It hasn't been that long since your hubby passed and it's been a series of firsts for you without him since then. It's quite natural to be "down", IMHO. I agree with Kim that everyone grieves in their own way. I disagree that the stages of grief don't exist, but I do feel that it's not a linear progression. That is, you don't feel stage A, then move on to stage B etc, sometimes you start at stage C, (or A or B or whatever) and just because you have been thru one stage does not mean you won't repeat it. Don't do stuff because you feel that someone else would like, unless you think it's something you would like also! Keep it simple and for YOUR enjoyment!
This past week has been a little rough. I have been fighting a losing battle with a cold and then DH and I went for our Covid boosters and flu shots. Now hubby is reacting to the shots and seems to have caught my cold. I am trying to go drug free today, we will see how that works! I woke up after only a few hours of sleep with debilitating abdominal pain, figured it was probably gas, but oh my! Then I started thinking that perhaps I was also having a reaction to the shots (have yet to have one) as I was shaky and slightly nauseated. I spent a few hours downstairs (our main level), did some pacing, then just relaxed in my recliner. Fortunately everything seems to have passed without too much fanfare and I'm feeling somewhat human now. Tired and wishing the dry cough would take a hike, but all things considered....
The scale is not being kind tho, which is just really annoying! lol I will be taking it easy for the rest of this week, I really want to make sure this crud is gone before I head back to the gym!
Okay, enough babbling for me for now! Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the new gals!

Did the 20-40-60 workout then took a water class. Afterwards, stopped at Big Lots (didn’t get anything) then to Aldi. Then made yogurt in for the IP, had breakfast
Put the cut lawn and leaf bag on my windshield last night and it worked wonderfully. Thank you, thank you, thank you Rita. Tomorrow when I go to work I’m going to take one of their garbage bags. See, the lawn and leaf bag covered most of the windshield but there was still frost on the upper 2 or 3 inches. Which is fine, I really don’t look out there.
Annie – I do hope your sister gets there soon
pip – HUG extra hard’
Lisa – I just bought Denise and Pete a gift card at WalMart and was going to get one for our mailman the next time I went. Not sure where to get one one. Nice pants. You are so creative
Going to see if Vince needs me to do anything. If not, I’ll go for a walk down to the dollar store and then maybe Food Lion. They have crab cakes on sale, I want to try them. If Vince will eat them and they aren’t too “bready” (there are stuffed clams at Aldi that are very “bready” Maybe I’ll get some for Christmas Eve.
