It's a constant battle, like the light levels in the living room. When they arrive tomorrow, I will throw out three old ones. Promise!

I know them as tea towels.
I don't know when I got mine ...
Maybe at or prior to my first wedding in the late 1980s???
Maybe when I moved to Australia in 2009???
Maybe some at each time???
I do know that some of the ones from the late 1980s had gone oily, but I researched how to clean them, and did.
They aren't something I've ever thought of replacing!
I'm pretty sure my kitchen hand towels were purchased between 2000 and 2002 ... in the years shortly following my separation from my husband when I was redecorating my apartment.

Lisa: 🥰 the bell bottoms. I have the same problem with calfs. Always had a problem with long boots. 😝
We have a meet and greet after lunch for our charity. (U3A) Otherwise, nothing fixed, so will work on my Christmas cards.
🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

I'm up early too! I was in bed by 7 and up a couple times but I got at least 6 hours of good sleep. I see a nice nap or two coming today.
Annie - So very glad the hospital bed was there for your mom. You and your dad will get it figured out as far as sleeping arrangements. Are you still thinking of doing the breakfast thing? I think your idea of a breakfast casserole was a good one if you can get to the store to get the ingredients. Or even the coffee, tea and pastries, why not?
Barbie - hope Jake had a good time out and YOU enjoyed having the house to yourself for a while. Recharge your introvert batteries.
Michele - Vince gets the prize for Christmas lawn decorations. I bet folks love driving by and seeing your display. That Snoopy doghouse countdown to Christmas is awesome.
Pip - those dog sweaters are so so cute.
Allie - that's an adorable cat. So sorry to hear Tracy's yard decorations were stolen, but not surprising. Thieves are so bold these days.
Rebecca - that soup/stew looks like a prizewinner. Good job! Those Japanese cards are very nice.
Tracey - those stockings are beautiful! All of that time and creativity - I bet you could charge a lot more than $75 and people wouldn't balk at it. You are doing so well with your classes - we knew you would.
So yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Roger messaged me and asked me to come over, she wanted to tell me about the lymphadema clinic she went to. They are going to put both her legs in special casts for 6 weeks which should greatly reduce the fluid, with the casts changed every 3 days. But she also wanted to know about Collette coming to clean for them, Collette will head across the street next Tuesday when she's done here and see about it. Mrs. Roger also said she's supposed to walk more, but with the weather and her balance not good .... I told her about house walking! She's not speedy due to a knee replacement several decades ago that went bad, but their house layout is similar to mine with a long haulway. It's an option.

Hi
Lisa I wear flare or bell bottom jeans especially in the winter. They fit better over boots. Those are awesome!
Been busy. Training caught up. Christmas cards mailed. The only shopping left to do is picking up lottery tickets and saran wrap. DH hunts tomorrow. My plan is to wrap and do saran wrap balls for both daughters families. I will enjoy just being home alone.
I need to get back to walking, logging, and drinking water. Those are priorities. After those things, I really need to deep clean house. I dispise dusting! This will wait until Christmas is put away. I decorate for DH. Other than outside lights, it is rare for anyone else to see inside. I would have loved to have made cookies this year, but just not high on priority list. Neither of us needs them! DH bought a bunch of chocolate candies and the chocolate dipped peanut butter crackers from a friend. By bunch I think combined over 50 dozen! He has given quite a bit away, but a bunch will go in freezer.
Tracey You are so talented. Love the stockings!
I know there was more.....
Be kind to yourselves! This is a really hard time of year for many. I take to heart the advice on saying no and keeping things simple. I just can't fathom giving up Christmas card sending which would simplify my holidays. Since each message is different it does two things for me. One is it makes me reflect on the blessings and experiences of the year. Two is that I hope it brings a smile to the recipient to know someone is thinking of them. The rest of the holiday stuffs I could do without.
Healing thoughts for those ill.
Hugs for any who need.
Admiration for all that you do!
Much love,
Kylia in unseasonably warm Ohio (not complaining!)4 -
Machka - I have just thrown some away that are over twelve years old. Keeping the others. The tea towel is on prominent show in my kitchen and a welcome splash of colour. I think of it like a cushion, or art work. Here are the ones I've just ordered. My accent colours are blue and pink.
Yesterday I also washed my long-neglected oven gloves and aprons. For some reason I was dirt-blind to them.
Going to have an art session this afternoon.

Had physical yesterday...My take aways after looking at my blood work is to drink more water. Eliminating grains is fine as long as I don't overdo sugar to compensate. Triglyerides and glucose were borderline high. Eat more greens because now after last year of too low Vit D I am now border line high. I am going to go to a specialist for my breathing issue and another specialist for the cramping in my legs. I will also need to do more core exercise and be careful not to put strain on my back due to back alignment. Fortunately I have no back pain. Modified plank and pushups and sit ups. More stretching. Overall for my age feel health is excellent.
Allie I am working on getting better sleep. Fortunately when I do wake in the night I get back to sleep easily. Still I know it is better to sleep straight through.

Long, long week ...
Last weekend and early part of this week in stress because of my mother.
5 days of work for the first time since before we visited Canada.
Busy at work!
A long list of things to do at home after work.
I haven't had much chance to read or colour at all in the evenings!
But I got quite a bit done.

We decided yesterday what we will do for Christmas Day. We'll do the same thing we did for Thanksgiving. We ordered a turkey in our grocery pickup for Sunday so there will be plenty of time for it to thaw. Our dinner will be turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy and we'll have turkey for sandwiches for several days and bones to boil for soup. Possibly more Ben and Jerry's ice cream for dessert.
My solution to waking up in the middle of the night and not going back to sleep is to read. Either way, I win. Either I fall asleep or I have a long uninterrupted time to read.
Tracey, I knit Christmas stockings for many years. At first as gifts, then for others who asked, I knit them for the cost of materials, and later for people I didn't know, I set a charge that was money for me above cost but not really what they were they were worth. One day I decided that I'd done enough and haven't knit a stocking in over ten years.

Heather - Those are lovely. We would probably call them dish towels, but I've also heard them called kitchen towels or hand towels. Ours are gray, because my beloved husband, the mechanic, has never broken the habit of washing his hands when he comes home in the kitchen sink and drying them on the dish towel hanging over the oven door. Anything pretty, or with light colors, would get grubbed out immediately because the only way he could get every bit of his hands clean is a half-hour soak and then using a wire brush to scrub his hands with scouring powder. Not going to happen. I have dark brown bath towels for him for the same reason. Easier that way! I wash them all in hot water whenever I run a load of hot, and don't worry about if they fade because... who cares? They were gray and brown to begin with!
Kylia - So well said - why is being kind to ourselves so much harder than being kind to others? All of us reach out to others with kindness and grace and love this time of year, but seem to have a hard time making sure that we're OK ourselves. It's so important that we get past feeling "self-indulgent," and understand that we need to turn the golden rule on its head. Treat ourselves as we treat others. Be kind.
Michele - Wow! Yours is one of the houses I love to drive past close to Christmas. Just stunning.
Tracey - It's really hard to pin down what to charge for something that you put that kind of time into. You might be surprised at how many people will buy something custom-made and meaningful for that kind of price. I've seen them on Etsy that are less personalized than yours and they're up in the hundred dollar range. Facebook Marketplace is still free to post, you pay only if you want to advertise. If you remember Janet, who made those beautiful beaded Christmas ornaments, she sold hers at a profit, as well. Just trust that your time is worth paying for when it is for something as beautiful as you create.
Annie - Your father's desperation to get your mother upstairs is absolutely heartbreaking. This is why it was worth putting the hospital bed into the downstairs. I hope you were all able to get some sleep. Thinking of you, sending more hugs.
More in a bit.
Love y'all,
Lisa

I had fun playing with pastels today!! First I did a very quick watercolour brush card for a neighbour, because we've run out of bought ones!! Then tried out my new paper. I think it would make a good tea towel!

I’ve been pretty much MIA since Wednesday. Had cataract surgery Wednesday and have slept for 2 days! Wednesday and Thursday, I had what I thought was a cold but found out later that some people get this ‘sinus thing’ after surgery. They even have a name for it and it is not very common. Go figure. I go for the post op today and will definitely as about that. My right eye gets done in January.
It seems every time I have any kind of medical procedure, something weird happens. Last year it was nasa ablation, which turned into a smashed molar that had to be pulled.😳🙄 Oh well, just me I guess. No more sinus stuff draining, they just feeling irritated today.
It is super sunny today and I have all the shades pulled. I have these really ugly sun glasses to wea for now. My DH says now I ‘really look like an old lady’ with those glasses on. I know what he means. At least he has been a good sport about the whole thing.

Kylia--Christmas cards are also my favorite thing to do. I send out to over 150 mostly friends and family. I don't care if they send back. I just like to let them know I am thinking of them. I try and put a personal message in and we take a picture of us in our new Christmas PJ.s and the fur babies. I just hope to give them a smile.
Annie--One day at a time. Sending hugs and prayers.
Margaret--Thanks for the reminder to breath and do the best we can at the time.
Michelle--Love all the lights. What a great way to share the Christmas spirit.
Rita--Hope you are feeling better soon and that you have great eye sight.
Last evening we went to a couple of the DGC Christmas program. They go to a small town school and they call it a Christmas show and sing Christmas songs about Jesus. Enjoy that. We ending up staying for the whole thing as Grandson is in 1st grade and Granddaughter is in 9th grade. So we was at beginning and she was at the end. It was nice.
This evening we have a Winter program here in town for DGS but only 2 grades so should not last long. Monday DH wants to go to another DGD program and they live 130 miles away. So will see how we feel on that day, would mean a late night and work the next morning. I just tell myself this will all be over in a week and the memories will last forever.
Off the weekend and other than church my only plans are to get some house cleaning done(hasn't been done in a couple week since I was not feeling well) and wrap gifts.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE7 -
Lisa: I NEED those bellbottoms. On Tuesday I'm going to the symphony's Elvis Christmas concert and it would be so fun to wear those.
Tracey: Those stockings are beautiful. You pour so much creativity and personalization into your crafts.
Annie: I think of you daily and send energy across the continent to you. I pray helpful people show up in your life soon.
Rosemarie: Please be kind to yourself. This is my second holiday without DH and DB and the grief roller coaster is a tough ride this time of year. Your loved ones will understand if you want to keep it low key this year.
Machka: So sorry to hear about your mom.
Heather: I love the colors of the pastel creation and how cool to be able to convert it into a kitchen towel.
I am going through the motions. Cards out. A few lights up. A couple of concerts on the calendar. Gift cards for my special service providers. Definitely trying to keep it thoughtful but simple. I think frequently of my recently departed friend and can almost hear her whispering "Do it! You never know about tomorrow." So I make myself smile through the tears and mush on.
My gentleman friend, N has a bit more spirit than I do. HIs late wife loved Christmas and he dutifully does some decorating to add light and color to the house before his daughter comes home. One thing he and I have in common is that we used to hand craft dozens of decorations for friends. I crocheted snowflakes and he did stain glass ornaments. We each went into our storage bins and found a few samples of our past work to exchange with each other. I got his package of 4 ornaments a couple days ago and created a mobile with some other bits I had lying around. It hangs in my bedroom window. So, here's my addition to our collective show and tell.
Stay well. Keep smiling. We can do this.

He dropped peanut butter on the floor, but Teddy will get it.
And I get to sleep in the big armchair. I didn't promise I would stay all night, but my dad has his hearing aids out so he can't hear her. She does have the bell, he might hear that. Anyway, now that I think about it, I should have taken the couch and sent him upstairs. It's going to be a long night, especially since I am wide awake and it's only eleven. Oh well, there's nothing on the calendar tomorrow.
Sleep well my friends!

Rebecca ~ The Japanese Christmas cards are lovely. And, your spicy stew sounds good.
Joy ~ We are not going to have a meal with the family this Christmas. For many years we have celebrated holidays and cookouts with daughter-in-laws family because we all get along very well. But, since the pandemic, it has become a burden and I no longer enjoy going for dinners at restaurants or at relatives homes. Guess we are just getting old and slow! LOL I think my son (he's my only child) understands and they will come by for snacks and presents on Christmas day and then go to DIL's mom's. We love her family and I think they love us but time to make new traditions.
Lisa ~ Thanks for understanding my ire at the false delivery information. So glad to have gotten taken care of.

Thanks! Some of the cards were from an exchange student from Japan that my sister hosted many years ago. When I was in Oregon visiting family, I had met her, and when we both returned to Japan we met up a couple times in Tokyo. Her cards have carefully printed English so they mean alot, as she was learning it at the time. Some are from various telephone companies that husband worked with when he ran the telephone office on base. The cards are beautiful but their business cards inside, not so much.😁
The soup was delightful as I had never used that Italian sausage before. It paired well with the zucchini, and the mushroom raviollis. I just buy Baritoli brand pasta that is near the cheese and yogurts. It seems like a good quality ready made pasta. I usually keep it in the fridge for a week and then it goes in the freezer. Either way its only a couple minutes in boiling water.👍🏼

Rebecca ~ Amazon is very good about sending emails regarding their tracking. Walmart also. I very seldom send packages to others but I do keep track when I do. I do not have a credit card so it all goes on my debit card.

Gotcha. If I wish to get anything that needs to be ordered, I send a link to husband on FB messenger with a smiley face.😁. His computer does the ordering, because my tablet isn't linked to anything financial, which is ok by me. We have a credit card but its only for gas, and gets paid off every month. When I send things to youngest military kid, I don't track it because its a Fleet Post Office (FPO) address, so it gets to the FPO office and from there it travels thru a black hole then gets to son. No sense sending it quick because it will go quick to the FPO office then take its own sweet time.👍🏼😁

Rosemarie – I vote for getting your nails done. Cleaning sounds too boring. If it were me, I would just ignore that woman. That’s what she does to you. You have more important things in your life
Newcomer bowling tonight
Got some crab cakes, stuffed crabs and lobster cakes. We’ll see how Vince likes them. They also had Keebler chocolate chip cookies market down to $1.75. Heck, a bag of chocolate chips alone costs $1.69. Update: Vince didn’t care for the crab cakes so I’ll finish them. Tonight we’ll try the stuffed crabs
Worked and then we went to Ikea in Charlotte. See, I want these wine glasses (I’m just tired of the ones I have) and Vince wanted to show them to me since they came 10, 12, and I think 15oz. I wanted the 10oz, it’s not like we’re big wine drinkers and you can always refill the glass
Allie -= what kind of surgery is Smiles having?
After going to Ikea, I’m making 3 of the spinach feta pies for Christmas Eve. I’ll just cut them up and freeze them.. Then wrapped the ceramic tree from MIL for Jess and Colby. Had to put big signs on it “fragile”. Now just have the present for the gal who runs the bowling to wrap but first Vince needs to get the filler for it. Need to order the few gifts we need to order from Amazon. Hope to do that tonight or tomorrow at the latest
Carol – can you edit your post to WalMart or maybe make another one saying how you received the card?
Tracey – absolutely gorgeous stockings. How long did it take for you to make them? Oh, yes, make one with bicycles for pip. Even if it’s not for this year (I’m sure you’re swamped with things you have to do – like the rest of us)
M – good thoughts being sent for your mom
Rebecca – they don’t use raw eel in sushi, do they? The Japanese/Korean people use so much detail and color in everything
Lisa – that’s wonderful that those guys will take care of your front lawn like that. Wish I had someone who would do it for free!
Allie – Siri is adorable. Do you think Doris will wind up being a foster failure?
Michele NC
I don't eat raw sushi for the most part. I do eat raw tuna sushi, but only if it has the bright orange fish eggs on top. They are just salty, and pair well with the tuna. I also use wasabi and soy sauce so all that kind of disguises the raw flavor.
Here's the meal I had yesterday with a friend.💖
I describe the ramen at this place as what a Japanese grandmother would make. I lot of things in it.💖

Rori - Enjoy the concert! Apparently, I was actually late to the revival, and there are bellbottoms available everywhere, but that shows you what I know... You should treat yourself to a pair! Pretty sure they won't have bluebonnet bells... Hug yourself for me, and I'm kinda lovin' your fella's stained glass.
Heather, love the pastels, and I'll bet it's a charming tea towel...
Back home after a quick trip to town to pick up some beer for Corey for the weekend, and I've promised him I'll take an afternoon off and watch TV and crochet. He's a worry wart, that boy. Time to snag one more glass of iced tea and wait for the rain, which should be coming in soon. Should be seeing Egg shortly after that, probably a little cranky about getting rained on--she tends to take that personally. Hope it's a good Friday for all and a lovely, peaceful weekend.

Debbie we are still figuring this out. A baby monitor might well be part of the picture, thanks. For last night I needed to be down here because she kept trying to get up.
Rori Rosemarie Lisa Tracey Machka and Margaret and Vicki thank you! And anyone I missed. Your support means the world to me.
Lisa count me as a fan of your bell-bottoms!
Michele what a tremendous display!
Lanette yes I'm still thinking of Christmas breakfast after the early service. I think I can pull it off. I think I can, I think I can!
Rita, hope your eye recovers well.
Heather, such happy colors! I really crave the spring colors after the darkness of winter.
Allie I went to the funeral of my childhood bully because he was my brother, and my parents' son. It was excruciating, and I'm glad I had a friend there to whisper to.
I hope Mom goes back to sleeping through the night. She has been asleep since early this morning. I will have to wake her up soon so she can sleep tonight.
I have a dozen packages from Amazon to sort and wrap. And no inclination to do it. Maybe tomorrow. And I still have to find something for Dad to give Mom.
Meanwhile, enjoy the season, everybody!

Friday 12/8: Joe decided to donate the old vans. St. Timothy’s Father Bernie will probably give the oldest van to a guy and the camper van with porta potty and heater to a gal with kids. After meeting with Father Bernie, Joe is inspired to donate clothes he no longer wears, starting with 3 or 4 very warm winter jackets. He’s inspiring me to purge my closet, though I don’t know of St. Tim’s needs women’s clothes. . .

Beth had to back up and look at Barbie’s tree again to spot the bubble lights. Good eye! Use to have twinkle bright lights, the clear glass ones that blinked on and off. My BFF used to love to lie on the sofa and fall asleep watching the tree. She told a story about when she and her sister “kissed” the Christmas light bulbs good bye one year they each gave a little pop. The next year, you guessed it, none worked. I loved the twinklebrights, but started using them around the windows instead of the tree because they got warm. Then the bulbs got so very very hot they singed my fingers and I regretfully threw them all out. But Ah! The memories!!!
Margaret the lights!
Tina so hard to get the job news during the holidays. Fingers X’d for better position soon.
Heather really hope you are already way better. Being off your food is a dead giveaway.

Evelyn: I have decided to do one thing each day for my enjoyment with the energy I have. I am sorry you didn't feel well. I am sure resting in the recliner helped.
Heather: Love the painting
Michele: Crab cakes sound great!
Grandmallie: I hope you feel better.
Machka: Food delivery is 9.99 here plus a tip. I hope your Mom does okay. I will stop thinking about the lady at the rescue. She is great with the dogs and that is what matters. Of all the reasons to stay hydrated I never considered wrinkled hands!
Vickie: i am glad you had a good time at the Jeremy camp Christmas concert
Debbie: The cooking and baking sound wonderful! Your house must be a delight!
Tracey: I love the stockings!
Annie: So your sister can't come at all?

Lisa: That is amazing that you get such yard work for free! What a bonus!
Rebecca: The Japanese Christmas cards are great!
Michelle: Yes I will continue to ignore her. Your decorations are truly a job well done!
Kylia: I did get some Christmas cards out and have a few more to go!
Margaret Turk: Good news about your physical!
RV Rita: One eye down! One to go!
Well my energy still isn't great. I tried to go back to sleep this afternoon. I splurged and made pasta for lunch with a little butter! I feel much better after eating this! I hope to exercise now! I will keep the sound off of the exercise video and listen to Christmas music!
I am going to have the cleaner come next Thursday which takes a lot of pressure off of me. I am still decluttering and this drives me crazy! I found a facebook group that does a challenge to declutter 2024 items in 2024. I will do this. It should be fairly easy! Next Christmas the house will be decluttered and I will do my own cleaning!
I saw a dog I was interested in but we decided he had some pit bull in him and I feared the hotels would not let me travel with him. I will keep looking. If the right dog comes along I might get it. I would like a dog that is about 5 years old and is a good walker on a leash.
Continued Seasons Greetings to Everyone!
Best,

Worked then the soup kitchen. This gal who usually runs the kitchen on Fridays made me feel real good. When I got there she said “were your ears burning. I just said ‘Michele WILL be here, right?’” Then picked up a prescription for Loki and then went to the Salvation Army. Came home and made cornbread muffins for Christmas Eve (I’ll freeze them) and fudge. Not sure if I should have used more sugar or not. We shall see how it turns out.
Allie – that’s horrible someone stole decorations. That happened to us about 30 years ago. It was interesting because a day or two later we saw soldiers that looked exactly like ours at another house that didn’t previously have any decorations. Of course, we couldn’t accuse them.
Annie DE – dear heart, real big hug. . You father trying to “help” your mother broke my heart
Lanette – do you know that we had to have that Snoopy countdown clock repainted? Glad you liked the decorations. Wish I could post the video, but you would have to have VLC to view them and not everyone has it
kylia – I wish bell bottom pants came in other colors than just blue jeans. I much prefer them. I usually have to get the straight leg in pants that are another color
Rosemarie – Vince won’t eat the crab cakes, so I’ll have to. He also won’t eat the stufffed crab. Tonight we’re going to try lobster cakes. If he won’t eat those, I’ll have a lot I have to eat
How I wish I could post the video of the decorations. You can see the snowball fight and how the arches are sequenced. Oh well,….the files really is too large.
A guy who works at BK used to volunteer at the soup kitchen. Mike told me today that he's a really good cook, used to cook for Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and some other places.
