Well tonight is the first night mom couldn't make it up the stairs. My dad is so helpless. He rolled her to the foot of the stairs and was trying to get me to carry her up. I said let's talk, and got mom to agree to sleep in the hospital bed. She was weak and agreeable. So now she is sleeping. Dad gets the couch, but he is up snacking. He dropped peanut butter on the floor, but Teddy will get it.
And I get to sleep in the big armchair. I didn't promise I would stay all night, but my dad has his hearing aids out so he can't hear her. She does have the bell, he might hear that. Anyway, now that I think about it, I should have taken the couch and sent him upstairs. It's going to be a long night, especially since I am wide awake and it's only eleven. Oh well, there's nothing on the calendar tomorrow.
Sleep well my friends!

Annie: So sorry your Mom is getting weaker. I know it is very hard to watch. I hope you are able to get some sleep! I slept for 2 hours and am now wide awake!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia5 -
Machka - I hope your Mom continues to drink.
I’m not sure about BC, but here in Alberta you call Alberta Health Service to get on a list for an assessment to have most of the costs covered by the province. I would suggest looking at BC’s health authority first. You probably know that though.
Carol - Everything is sewn. Twice really I sew all of the felt pieces on and then go around again with the sequins and beads. I do use some buttons on some, and the Fire Station on Shawn’s is Vinyl.
Ginny - I have group chats when something is trying to be planned. My husband, and both sons in law work shift work. We have found that’s easiest and everyone is informed at once. It works quite well.
Lisa - funny you should ask the time, Kaitlyn asked me the same thing today. Once I come up with a design, I think I’ll like I cut the felt and pin it on. Then I sew it and then start with the sequins and beads. This is where the fine details of my design comes into play. Sometimes this catches me up for a couple of days while I roll it around in my head.
So the problem is I’m not sure. I would think without the designing phase the physical sewing is probably about 8-10 hours each. The thinking of the ideas though can take days!
I have never made these to sell but am thinking of maybe making two sets of 4 without names and posting them for sale. Will personalize once I receive full payment. I think though I would need to charge about $75 to make it worth my while and I don’t know if anyone would buy them at that price.
Sorry I just realized that was a novel.
You’re getting so close to having your room complete. I can’t wait to see the pictures.
It was 3C here today too.
Pip - let me let that rattle around my brain a bit.
Rebecca - beautiful cards.
Joy - sorry your grandchildren won’t be with you on Christmas Eve? Are they your only close grandchildren?
Vicki - I hope you feel better soon
Annie - Hugs I hope you all get some rest.
Thank you all for the comments on the stockings.
I finished my last Christmas gift ceramic piece tonight. It’s for my Son in Law. I’ll put peanuts in it for him.
I have to read a story tomorrow for class and then another session is done. I believe I’ll have 100% for this whole session as long as I don’t fail at reading with inflections and expressions.

Lisa: I love the bell bottoms! Great you will be able use the sunroom all year long!
Michele: I still have the land line. I get very little spam on my cell phone. Maybe this is why.
Ginny: You sound busy...but a good busy!
Machka: I love the sleeves on the pink top!
Vicki: I hope you are feeling better!
Allie: My sympathy to you on two losses this holiday season!
Heather: So sorry about the little girl with Type 1 diabetes. I am glad she is swimming and doing well.
I am glad you are pleased with your new silver decorations. I believe I will put a few lights outside so when my son and DIL arrive they will greeted by lights. I usually do a white tree in blue and silver. I wasn't going to decorate it this year, but maybe for their enjoyment I should. I should order some silver tinsel from Walmart or Amazon when I through with this post. I was also thinking about hanging 3 stockings and having one gift in each stocking. Not sure yet.
Annie: Christmas breakfast will be fun! I sure hope your sister makes it. That would improve everything! Sounds like your getting cabin fever! I hope you can leave the house a little bit. I know I stayed in the house so much during Covid and caring for my husband that I began to develop a little fear of leaving the house. I had to push past that.
Carol: I am surprised you had trouble with Walmart. Walmart on line is really promoting customer service. Yes as others have suggested disputing on the credit card might help. Did you call the 1 800 925 6278 number that Walmart has or are they the ones that were not helpful?
KJLAMORE: Great news segment! I love the space ship and the Christmas stockings! You spoke very well!
Debbie: Thank you for posting the If This Christmas Hits Different Video.
Lanette: Thank you for the Rockin Around the Christmas Tree Video.
Luanne Elizabeth: Yes, logging the meals is a start!
RV Rita: So glad you caught on to the scam. What a pain about needing to freeze the credit cards.
Rebecca: Congrats to your middle son for getting his degree! Great you are h aving so much family contact!
PIpcd: Love your nails!
Thank you to everyone that posted and lifted me up when I was feeling down. Words can not say how much I appreciate this.
I tried to save money and use my eye glasses for 2 years but ended with severe eye strain and am waiting for the new glasses to arrive. I have some improved contacts that I am wearing meanwhile.
My friend's cleaner is great about coming when I need her. Sometimes it can be hard to get a cleaner if you don't have one on a regular basis. Because I only have her come 3 or so times a year I pay her $200.00. If she came on a regular basis I could probably pay less. It is great when she comes. The house is all clean all at once and this is a big boost to my self esteem! She only cleans for 2 hours. She moves very fast. I tell myself if I can clean at a cat rescue I should be able to do the same thing. But I get bored and distracted and never do it. So my house is never clean all at the same time! I should decide soon if I want her to come before the 23rd...if she can fit me in. Or I could save the money which is what I should do!
Or I could save some of the money and have my nails done. This would lift my spirits!
I am spending more time in a bedroom in the house that is painted yellow. It is the only room in the house that is painted a color. I think sitting in all white walls all the time by myself might not be so healthy!
There is a lady at the Cat Rescue about age 25 that seems angry or hormonal for lack of a better word. She is a paid employee and is only there on Wed. She works with the Dogs. If I directly approach her with a question or something she talks to me. Otherwise she ignores me. Today she ran past me went into the Cat house for a minute and then came out of the Cat house and walked right past me. Until now I have ignored her...I lost my husband...I really don't give a darn about her.....but am wondering how to set limits and boundaries with her. For some reason she seems to be testing me. Who knows why.
Any ideas on this?
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia
Where I work, most of us ignore each other because we're concentrating on our work. It's generally a very quiet office which is just the way I like it.
The way the lady at the Cat Rescue treats you is exactly how I like to be treated at work. 😀
If I have a question, please answer the question otherwise leave me alone and pretend I am not there.
I prefer not to chat at work in general and there are days where I barely speak 2 words. Those are great days!
So my advice ...
Chances are she is an introvert like me. Not angry or hormonal ... just quiet.
Say 'hi' when you arrive. Ask questions if you've got them. And otherwise leave her alone. 😀

I've ordered some tea-towels. Do you call them that in the US? My old ones are at least seven years old and looking tired. I always hang one over the oven door and John spreads it out, obscuring the whole door, and I fold it in two again, so I can see the glass. It's a constant battle, like the light levels in the living room. When they arrive tomorrow, I will throw out three old ones. Promise!

I know them as tea towels.
I don't know when I got mine ...
Maybe at or prior to my first wedding in the late 1980s???
Maybe when I moved to Australia in 2009???
Maybe some at each time???
I do know that some of the ones from the late 1980s had gone oily, but I researched how to clean them, and did.
They aren't something I've ever thought of replacing!
I'm pretty sure my kitchen hand towels were purchased between 2000 and 2002 ... in the years shortly following my separation from my husband when I was redecorating my apartment.

I'm up early too! I was in bed by 7 and up a couple times but I got at least 6 hours of good sleep. I see a nice nap or two coming today.
Annie - So very glad the hospital bed was there for your mom. You and your dad will get it figured out as far as sleeping arrangements. Are you still thinking of doing the breakfast thing? I think your idea of a breakfast casserole was a good one if you can get to the store to get the ingredients. Or even the coffee, tea and pastries, why not?
Barbie - hope Jake had a good time out and YOU enjoyed having the house to yourself for a while. Recharge your introvert batteries.
Michele - Vince gets the prize for Christmas lawn decorations. I bet folks love driving by and seeing your display. That Snoopy doghouse countdown to Christmas is awesome.
Pip - those dog sweaters are so so cute.
Allie - that's an adorable cat. So sorry to hear Tracy's yard decorations were stolen, but not surprising. Thieves are so bold these days.
Rebecca - that soup/stew looks like a prizewinner. Good job! Those Japanese cards are very nice.
Tracey - those stockings are beautiful! All of that time and creativity - I bet you could charge a lot more than $75 and people wouldn't balk at it. You are doing so well with your classes - we knew you would.
So yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Roger messaged me and asked me to come over, she wanted to tell me about the lymphadema clinic she went to. They are going to put both her legs in special casts for 6 weeks which should greatly reduce the fluid, with the casts changed every 3 days. But she also wanted to know about Collette coming to clean for them, Collette will head across the street next Tuesday when she's done here and see about it. Mrs. Roger also said she's supposed to walk more, but with the weather and her balance not good .... I told her about house walking! She's not speedy due to a knee replacement several decades ago that went bad, but their house layout is similar to mine with a long haulway. It's an option.

Hi
Lisa I wear flare or bell bottom jeans especially in the winter. They fit better over boots. Those are awesome!
Been busy. Training caught up. Christmas cards mailed. The only shopping left to do is picking up lottery tickets and saran wrap. DH hunts tomorrow. My plan is to wrap and do saran wrap balls for both daughters families. I will enjoy just being home alone.
I need to get back to walking, logging, and drinking water. Those are priorities. After those things, I really need to deep clean house. I dispise dusting! This will wait until Christmas is put away. I decorate for DH. Other than outside lights, it is rare for anyone else to see inside. I would have loved to have made cookies this year, but just not high on priority list. Neither of us needs them! DH bought a bunch of chocolate candies and the chocolate dipped peanut butter crackers from a friend. By bunch I think combined over 50 dozen! He has given quite a bit away, but a bunch will go in freezer.
Tracey You are so talented. Love the stockings!
I know there was more.....
Be kind to yourselves! This is a really hard time of year for many. I take to heart the advice on saying no and keeping things simple. I just can't fathom giving up Christmas card sending which would simplify my holidays. Since each message is different it does two things for me. One is it makes me reflect on the blessings and experiences of the year. Two is that I hope it brings a smile to the recipient to know someone is thinking of them. The rest of the holiday stuffs I could do without.
Healing thoughts for those ill.
Hugs for any who need.
Admiration for all that you do!
Much love,
Kylia in unseasonably warm Ohio (not complaining!)4 -
Machka - I have just thrown some away that are over twelve years old. Keeping the others. The tea towel is on prominent show in my kitchen and a welcome splash of colour. I think of it like a cushion, or art work. Here are the ones I've just ordered. My accent colours are blue and pink.
Yesterday I also washed my long-neglected oven gloves and aprons. For some reason I was dirt-blind to them.
Going to have an art session this afternoon.

Had physical yesterday...My take aways after looking at my blood work is to drink more water. Eliminating grains is fine as long as I don't overdo sugar to compensate. Triglyerides and glucose were borderline high. Eat more greens because now after last year of too low Vit D I am now border line high. I am going to go to a specialist for my breathing issue and another specialist for the cramping in my legs. I will also need to do more core exercise and be careful not to put strain on my back due to back alignment. Fortunately I have no back pain. Modified plank and pushups and sit ups. More stretching. Overall for my age feel health is excellent.
Allie I am working on getting better sleep. Fortunately when I do wake in the night I get back to sleep easily. Still I know it is better to sleep straight through.

Long, long week ...
Last weekend and early part of this week in stress because of my mother.
5 days of work for the first time since before we visited Canada.
Busy at work!
A long list of things to do at home after work.
I haven't had much chance to read or colour at all in the evenings!
But I got quite a bit done.

We decided yesterday what we will do for Christmas Day. We'll do the same thing we did for Thanksgiving. We ordered a turkey in our grocery pickup for Sunday so there will be plenty of time for it to thaw. Our dinner will be turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy and we'll have turkey for sandwiches for several days and bones to boil for soup. Possibly more Ben and Jerry's ice cream for dessert.
My solution to waking up in the middle of the night and not going back to sleep is to read. Either way, I win. Either I fall asleep or I have a long uninterrupted time to read.
Tracey, I knit Christmas stockings for many years. At first as gifts, then for others who asked, I knit them for the cost of materials, and later for people I didn't know, I set a charge that was money for me above cost but not really what they were they were worth. One day I decided that I'd done enough and haven't knit a stocking in over ten years.

Heather - Those are lovely. We would probably call them dish towels, but I've also heard them called kitchen towels or hand towels. Ours are gray, because my beloved husband, the mechanic, has never broken the habit of washing his hands when he comes home in the kitchen sink and drying them on the dish towel hanging over the oven door. Anything pretty, or with light colors, would get grubbed out immediately because the only way he could get every bit of his hands clean is a half-hour soak and then using a wire brush to scrub his hands with scouring powder. Not going to happen. I have dark brown bath towels for him for the same reason. Easier that way! I wash them all in hot water whenever I run a load of hot, and don't worry about if they fade because... who cares? They were gray and brown to begin with!
Kylia - So well said - why is being kind to ourselves so much harder than being kind to others? All of us reach out to others with kindness and grace and love this time of year, but seem to have a hard time making sure that we're OK ourselves. It's so important that we get past feeling "self-indulgent," and understand that we need to turn the golden rule on its head. Treat ourselves as we treat others. Be kind.
Michele - Wow! Yours is one of the houses I love to drive past close to Christmas. Just stunning.
Tracey - It's really hard to pin down what to charge for something that you put that kind of time into. You might be surprised at how many people will buy something custom-made and meaningful for that kind of price. I've seen them on Etsy that are less personalized than yours and they're up in the hundred dollar range. Facebook Marketplace is still free to post, you pay only if you want to advertise. If you remember Janet, who made those beautiful beaded Christmas ornaments, she sold hers at a profit, as well. Just trust that your time is worth paying for when it is for something as beautiful as you create.
Annie - Your father's desperation to get your mother upstairs is absolutely heartbreaking. This is why it was worth putting the hospital bed into the downstairs. I hope you were all able to get some sleep. Thinking of you, sending more hugs.
More in a bit.
Love y'all,
Lisa
