Gratitudes:
Monday 12/18: Crown prep wasn’t painful, was able to breathe and flex fingers throughout the grinding.
Sunday 12/17: quiet time with tea, Joe and the dogs.
Thinking about goals and word for 2024. Toying with the notion of “Stronger, smarter, sweeter” and “Savor.” We’ll see.
Annie (((hugs))) words fail. (((BIG hugs)))
Rosemarie, ((hugs)) Could your son’s visit be a chance to help a little? Ask him to pick an area of the house that he wouldn’t mind if it changed and ask him and his wife to help you declutter it, 15 minutes at a time, 3 times a day while they visit? Like Lisa, I’m wondering if there’s any grief support near you, through your church or? the “sonny do” list idea.
Rita congratulations! Recognition well-deserved!
Pip just my belated two cents. The best vacuum is the one you’ll use. For me, that’s an iRobot Roomba, since I loathe vacuuming but don’t mind emptying bins ;}
Lanette thanks for yours to Rosemarie, and for sharing your Dr. Matt visit. Brava!
Kay “… and send him home with some stuff” Fingers X’d. Even if he has no space, he could give Rosemarie an idea of what things are important to him and which others are not so much.
Michele whatever kind of soup was $5/serving?
@KetoneKaren delighted to see you pop in!
Kylia “…but dusting or deep cleaning are low on my list” Amen, sister, amen!

Merry Christmas Eve everyone. Tomorrow I’ve decided to go see mom, my sister will be there. Won’t stay long, we’ll see how it goes.7 -
Katie- Sorry you tripped and that the guys didn't bother to help you
Thank you for the kind words and the hug- can never have too many of them
Just catching up here.
Went to pick up a crab to take to mom's. Should have picked it up yesterday morning when we were there. DH said he would just pick it up this morning on his way back from his mom's. He forgot so after we ate we went to get it and they were sold out. Not a huge deal but would have been nice to have with dinner(but, one less thing for me to do for our dinner tonight when I get there). I will make some oyster stew and cook up some shrimp to go with it in a shrimp cocktail or just in garlic butter.
I think mom has church tonight so I will have a little extra time to cook.
Son and his girlfriend are coming up later tonight-that was their plan as of yesterday.
Dh was going to buy a roast duck at the Asian market when I got the crab but he didn't feel like picking one up while we were there- walked out empty handed. Already have his rice cooked- not sure what he will eat tonight. Not going to worry about it. There is a whole ham he can cut up for tonight or tomorrow if he wants(pre cooked)
Heading to mom's in a half hour. Looking forward to a quiet evening for just her and I. I am sure she will be tired so not much visiting tonight but that is ok. I will be there with her.
My favorite cousin is supposed to come out to mom's tomorrow- will be great to see him. He gives the best big hugs. Have missed those. I don't see him very often. I will cook and we will eat by 1 at the latest so the kids can leave to go to the girlfriend's aunts house and then I will leave so can make an appearance at MIL's house. Then home for gifts at our house if the kids are home. Otherwise, they can sit under the tree. DH doesn't care about them. He still hasn't bothered to open the gift I gave him for his birthday- it will be expired by the time he does(it is snacks)if he lets it sit a few more months.
MERRY CHRISTMAS ladies
Thank you for all your support and love- it is greatly appreciated. So special to me

Gratitudes:
Wednesday 12/20: minimal traffic downtown and only three people in line at the Post Office.
Tuesday: 12/19: Dry and warm in our cozy cabin in the woods above the sea.
Trying on “savor”. Every breath, sensation, sight, sound, not just taste. Since I’ve slowed down, might as well enjoy every moment… or at least be present/aware
Lanette at first I was angry at the gal who cherry picked the free box donations then sold for a profit, but maybe that’s her way to make a living? Is it really stealing to take something from a free box? Then again she’s appropriated and profited from something that someone else needs who couldn’t afford. Life is so damcomplicated!
Heather thanks for the cleaner recipe! the tea towel.
Rebecca $71 for Ramen, Gyoza, a drink and treats? Those treats must have been GOLDEN.
Rita and Michele: Katla is in a safe place with her daughter and grands nearby, but misses her mfp friends and Oregon. Don’t know how her husband is doing. Been thinking to send her greetings from her mfp pals, copied onto a word document with profile pics. I don’t feel comfortable sharing her mailing address at this time, but would gladly compile any greetings y’all would like to send her.
Allie Oww! For both Alfie’s nail and your fall. (gentle hugs) Good thing you have sMiles pics to brighten any day.
Lisa the plan for the bookshelf, especially the photos, bookworm and bookends… “powers beyond my ken” Doubtless!
Pip the pic of the pooches.
Machka I’m not sure, but I believe that is the case with Katla.
Carol the “reminders for hard days” Number 4 reminded me of the country song “when you’re going through hell, keep on going…”
Kay “…better than it was when you started” you inspired me to borrow the e-audiobook “Decluttering at the speed of life” .

Heather-glad family made it through Covid. While it is nice of them to be considerate-maybe suggest in future they give you a heads up! Either way you would worry but it is different.
Machka-keep an eye on the deep congestion. Covid presents a variety of breathing issues.
Kylia-the fog this morning was indeed something. It was still fairly foggy when I went for my walk-it made it seem a bit mystical. My DIL sent message from Chandler, AZ that they were under the same sort of of fog alert.
Annie-too late in the day, but I remember that Danish. I don't buy such things and hadn't noticed them in a while. A quick google shows they still sell them at Krogers around her (not sure what the chain would be called in in your area, I know it is Fry's out west).
Betsy-happy belated birthday. Sounds like you had a wonderful day.
Katie-glad your fall wasn't worse. No clue why people wouldn't inquire if you were ok.
Had good visit with my two brothers and their wives. Got to see a couple of nephews and grand nieces I haven't seen in a while.
Home watching some football. Need to order a couple of gift cards for on-line delivery. Need to wrap three presents for grandsons I will see Tuesday. Need to activate the on-line part of gift. They are sports balls and a glove from Dribble Up so they can have some online training. Interesting concept to me. It meets their computer/screen attraction and their goal of improving at sports.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio7 -
Katie That is awful! People suck sometimes. I am glad you weren't hurt worse.
The only productive thing I did today was cut my DH's hair. I wrote in my journal, visited with nephew and his family for a short while. Went to visit a friend, but was denied at the door. She tested positive for covid today. Dropped present and came home. Did get in hot tub and made bed;) Started to take nap, then decided to go through some papers. Well, I thought about it anyway. 🤔 leftover chili for dinner. Relaxing is important.
Safe travels!
A dark winter night. The children were nestled all snug in their beds. ......Merry Christmas to all! And to All a Good Night!

Annie, I’m so sorry the pastor changed all your plans. I hope you can get it worked out the way you want. Around here, we couldn’t change the time of a service without the funeral home’s approval. I’m giving your father a pass since his wife just died, but he really should have told the pastor there would be no changes without yours and your sister’s input.
Debbie, I don’t know what to say except hugs.
Because I knew the recycling dumpsters would be overflowing with cardboard, I took our stuff and stopped by after church today. Of course, they were pretty much full. Somebody had left a big wad of bubble wrap between the dumpsters. As I was trying to empty my recycling bag, one item at a time, tossing it over the mountain at the front of the opening into the back of the dumpster, I tripped over the bubble wrap, went down and hit the back of my head on the concrete. My bag with all its plastic went flying all over the parking lot. There were two men there - one emptying his own trunk of recyclables and the other apparently hanging about looking for aluminum or something. Neither of them even asked me if I was ok, much less offer to help me up or gather my plastic. Merry Christmas to me! Luckily, except for a small goose bump on the back of my skull, I seem to be okay. I was able to fit all my plastic and cardboard into the dumpster. Dave checked me out when I came home. The back of my pretty blue wool coat was covered in parking lot crud, which I treated all the folks in Publix to seeing when I stopped on the way home from recycling. Oh, well! I don’t have eyes in the back of my head (only a goosebump). Lol.
I'm sorry you fell ... and I would recommend getting that goosebump checked at Emergency.

Betsy - Happy belated birthday - I hope it was lovely. It sounds as if your time with family has been wonderful and peaceful.
Katie - I'm so sorry about the fall and being ignored by people who could have helped. I hope there aren't any aches and pains in the days to follow.
Debbie - I hope your time with your mother is lovely and peaceful...
Kylia - Sounds like my productive day... I took a two-hour nap this afternoon! It was absolutely lovely, one of those rainy day naps.
I put together dinner, cheese tortelloni and meatballs with mushrooms in a creamy tomato sauce. As I said, just shopped from the freezer, but it turned out well. It is raining still... and will 'til early in the morning. Will be glad to see the sun tomorrow.
Love y'all,
Merry Christmas for those who celebrate,

When I woke up today, I forgot it was Christmas Day. But a little later, my husband, who also has COVID wished me Merry Christmas.
All our plans have been cancelled.
I just had a bowl of chicken noodle soup and might manage crackers and cheese later.
I didn't finish the last bits of decorating, and now it seems like too much effort.
We didn't get each other cards like we usually do. But my husband did buy us RATs yesterday.
We won't be going out for a Christmas Day bicycle ride. But I might stand outside and breathe fresh air for a little bit. Breathing feels better when I stand or sit upright and lean forward a bit.
However, it is a beautiful day outside ... blue sky, blue water, and green all around which I can see from my window.
It's quiet because my husband is sleeping. And peaceful.
And I've got Christmas music on.

Dr. Katie – I’m so sorry this happened to you. Get better fast. You got to meet two Oscar the Grouches!
Carol – yup, the catfish feel in the oven and also went into the warming tray. Seems as she was taking it out, it hit the top shelf
Rebecca – lovely weaving. But what really struck my eye was those ornaments. Are they macrame????
Jess left her cat here. She has an appt at the vet on the 17th. So I’ll probably be spending one night with her, one night with Vince, and so on. That’s what I did while she was in St. Kitts. I don’t mind
Debbie – glad you get a break at your mom’s
Just watched “Christmas Eve on Sesame Street”. Reminded me so much of how much I miss the kids. We always watched it when they were young. Bryan loved Ernie. Made me sad in a way.
Barbara – oh, yes, give my love to katla
I tell you, this Christmas has really messed me up. First we had Christmas Eve on the 23rd. Then no Midnight Mass. Guess I just need to get used to it. I could have handled the Christmas Eve on the 23rd, but it just felt weird not to go to midnight mass.
Just realized that I’ll be able to exercise tomorrow since BK isn’t open. Yea!!!
M – what are RATs?
Better go decide what exercise I’m going to do, bring some of our meals up from the refrigerator downstairs, put my CPAP in the other bedroom and make the bed.

Good morning all. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate.
I’m up early. Put the cheese out on the counter to come to room temperature to make sausage balls to take up to Mama’s. We are following the advice of someone on here, Lisa maybe? And going with snack type foods. I did make a Not yo Mama’s Banana Pudding since I had snagged the Pepperidge Farm Christmas Cookies a while back, just in case. I seem to be none the worse for wear from my fall yesterday. The back of my head is a little tender, but I don’t think I need medical attention. My daughter’s response, bless her heart: couldn’t you at least have fallen on the bubble wrap? I do think the fact that I was wearing my heavy wool coat helped to cushion my body.
Barbara, Decluttering at the Speed of Life is the absolute best decluttering advice on the planet. It is the complete opposite of Marie Kondo.

MachKa: Sorry that your Christmas was rather ruined. Your breathing is a little concerning. I hope it is improving!
Barbara: Macy's did lower the price of the leather sofa if you can believe it.... as a last minute Christmas sale. By about 500 to
600 dollars! So I really had to think about whether I wanted the leather sofa. I have 2 leather sofas in the family room and decided I would try cloth and put a baby gate up when the dogs come. Now if I get a dog, I might regret the cloth couch.
Dr. Katiebug: I hope you are okay.
MargaretTurk: Yes, you are smart to be getting the legal documents in order. I hope your DH has less of a hard time today.
Grandmallie: Love your hair and your glasses! I hope the hematoma is not too uncomfortable.
Michele: I enjoyed the pictures of the XMAS trees!
PIPCD: Great pictures!
Annie: I hope you and the minister can work everything out. I wonder what he was thinking when he went to speak with your Dad when he knows you are the caregiver. Strange.
My first Christmas without my husband. I teared up in church yesterday, but closed my eyes and firmly told myself that everyone in the church had lost someone they loved. My son and his wife are here. Saturday we went out to a beer garden type bar and it was warm enough to sit out. We relaxed for 2.5 hours. I loved being outside and not having any tasks to do!
I have one more present to wrap and have checked how long I need to cook the ham. We have been eating key lime pie in honor of my husband. He loved key lime pie!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

My mother and father. From what I can work out, the stroke happened on a recent Monday night but my mother didn't think it was a stroke. At some point (guessing the Friday after - 4 days later), she emailed my brother but forgot to email me. On the Saturday, my father emailed me because my mother didn't think she had, and told me that my mother had suddenly developed dementia on the Thursday.
For a couple days, I thought the incident happened on the Thursday, but as the story slowly came out between my mother's and father's emails, I pieced together that the incident happened on the Monday.
My uncle had called my mom several times, and was under the impression that whatever it was had happened on the Thursday based on what they were telling him, until I finally emailed him and my brother and told them that the incident happened on the Monday. When my uncle called my mom again, it came out that whatever it was happened on the Monday.
Confused? So was I!!
I can only guess she had the stroke on the Monday night (but had no idea what had happened), and perhaps had another one on the Thursday too. She was adamant that she had not had a stroke. In fact she got quite upset at the idea. And she refused to go to Emergency. I was just about ready to call an ambulance from here!
It wasn't until the Sunday, a week later, that my father was finally able to convince her to go to Emergency and even then, she went in with the idea that she might have a UTI (somewhat possible), but not a stroke. So they waited in ER 3 hours. I told her that if she said she thought she might have had a stroke, they would get her in right away, but nope. She wouldn't do it. Didn't help that she'd basically stopped drinking (water) a week earlier.
Fortunately the hospital checked her for stroke first thing ... and UTI as a secondary thing. Thankfully they were on the ball. But unfortunately, she'd missed the window of opportunity by a long shot.
So now I've got a mother recovering from a stroke, a father in the early stage of dementia, and I'm not sure what to do next except that I don't have the energy to do anything right now because here on the other side of the world, my husband and I both have COVID.

Good morning ladies!
Machka, don't worry too much about your parents. You can only do so much even if you were closer. When my mom had a TIA, she went to the emergency room but came home again because the lines were too long.
I'm really not in the mood for a holiday. I guess it will pass regardless. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate.

Annie - My stars, woman, of course you don't feel like celebrating anything right now. Hope things are settling down for you. Hang in there, this really will pass, but time moves slowly when you're hurting. Thinking of you, and sending many hugs.
Rosemarie - For you, too, your first Christmas without your husband is tough, especially if you celebrated together with joy during his lifetime. You do not have to put on a happy face for others at every moment--just hang in there. As I told Annie, Hang in there, this really will pass, but time moves slow when you're hurting. Thinking of you, sending many hugs. I like the fact that you're eating key lime pie in your husband's honor - it's a charming way to celebrate someone you love.
Machka - I'm so sorry you're both ill and worried about your parents. It's not a good combination! Did your mother's tests show that anything can be done to help?
Katie - I'm glad there seem to be no issues after your fall--but if you start being dizzy, get thee to a doctor, woman! Hope your Christmas is lovely.
Barbara - Enjoy your lunch with Joe!

Good morning from the pre-dawn darkness of Christmas morning in Arkansas, where the rain has stopped, but now the temperature dropped. I'm not going anywhere, so no worries,
Wild dreams all night last night -- daytime naps are usually a trigger for later vivid dreaming for me. I was SO relieved when Corey came to bed about an hour after I did, as he woke me up just enough to stop a dream where I was desperately searching for him, but couldn't find him. The other dreams through the night weren't nearly as stressy.
Deliberately made it so there's not a lot to do this morning--been cooking all the finger foods the last couple days and they're all in the fridge, keto sausage balls made with almond meal instead of flour; barbecued little smokies; pigs in a blanket that turned out more like pizza rolls, in all honesty; puff pastry cinnamon twists with almonds; and other bits and bobs. Still have leftover chicken enchiladas and meatballs & tortelloni, as well as leftover chicken that didn't make it into the enchiladas. I'm planning to chuck that in the slow cooker with some barbecue sauce and spices to make barbecue sandwiches, but that could well be any time over the next few days. Seriously, just warming things up for DAYS to come.
I really am resisting the urge to make butter swim biscuits this morning though... It's just one of those things that you're curious to see if you can make them, and how they taste, but will probably never ever make again. Trying to resist... It's like the holidays opened the gate to both making and eating high-calorie food, so I've lost my tiny little mind. I'm pretty sure anything that has "butter swim" in the title of the recipe is not healthy fare.
Ah well, I will or I won't, but my brain isn't even working well enough yet to get my meds together for the week. Egg woke us up at 5:30 again, this time scratching at the bedroom door and meowing loudly. She's very attuned to habits, and she knows Corey's supposed to be headed for work (and letting her outside) by no later than 5:30 in the morning. Holidays confuse her. He was able to go back to sleep, but I gave her time to stop and go away for a bit, so she wouldn't think she was able to get what she wanted by yelling and scratching at the door and then got up.
Well, dawn is breaking, and it's still cloudy, but hope to see the sun at some point. Lots of cold days ahead, but no more rain in the forecast for a bit. That's a good thing, we really need to bump up the woodpile, but it will be too wet out there today to get anything cut after nearly 24 hours of rain.
Merry Christmas if you celebrate,
Hope it's a good day for all, regardless,
Love y'all,

I don't know. As far as I know she got in too late for the medication that could reverse some of the damage. But it is a mild stroke. She has been put on some medication and is taking it reluctantly. And she's going for more testing.
She says she doesn't remember much of the past couple years.

Our Christmas dinner was some cheese and crackers and a bit of ice cream.
Then I spent the evening on the sofa with a book, dozing and reading.
