Rosemarie, I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. The one most helpful to me was how to deal with paper clutter, but we all have our personal challenges.
Machka, I think you missed my point about the 5 minutes. I will try to explain it better. I’m not saying 5 minutes will get it done, I’m saying it will make it better. Take your office, for example. Taking 5 minutes to look for trash and return things with an established home is much better than looking at it in overwhelm and doing nothing. The next time you have 5 minutes. Do it again. If you have 30, even better, but 5 will make a difference.
Unfortunately there is no other established home for things in the office ... the things in there belong in there. It's the room where everything goes when we're not sure where else to put it. We don't want the things in there to make their way out into the rest of the house. So they remain in the office stacked up and overflowing.
What things? Mostly paper and books. If I could get to the filing cabinets I know are buried in there, I might be able to file things. If I could find the scanner which is somewhere in there, I might be able to scan some things. But both those tasks would require some serious digging.
Happily, there isn't much rubbish (trash) in there, except what is earmarked for shredding for the garden, or what has been shredded. My husband is quite diligent about shredding all/most of our cardboard and the paper we don't want like used envelopes, fliers, etc. for the garden, and I know there is one large bag of shredded material in there that will go out soon.
In September I spent a couple evenings trying to stack things in related piles or boxes. Doing that helps. The next time I try, I won't have to start at square one.
But there's not much I can do in a few minutes, and if I pick something up, I run the risk of starting an avalanche. That has happened each time I have made an attempt in there, including last September.
It's a tiny, scary room!
But fortunately, the rest of the house is pretty good.
And if I have some free evenings I will get in there again.

Lisa and Allie and Barbara and the rest of you all, thanks for thinking of me.
My mother passed Tuesday around noon. Life has been a whirlwind since. We got some of the arrangements made. My sister has been a godsend. When she gets emotional, she likes to dig into a task. I never had a guest who washed her towels!
One of the challenges is finding the original will. Current thought is that it might be stashed in a safe deposit box. Dad thinks he might have one, but there's no key. I'm thinking we don't need an original will because all of her property was joint with my father. So there is nothing to actually inherit, it just continues to be his. But I need a legal opinion on that.
We haven't agreed yet on the timing or flow of the service. My brother in law keeps commenting and I am not convinced. He wants to have a reception at the church. The minister said to use a restaurant because the church has no staff to set up or clean up or decorate. He said it's too hard on the family to be doing all that. It's really odd that he said that, and unfair after my mom hosted so many coffee hours, but it still stands as his recommendation for whatever reason. Sounds to me like he got burned by people who left a mess.
Anyway, we have a few days to figure this out.
And that's where I am at, dealing with arrangements. My dad of course is devastated and walks around like a zombie. He keeps trying to help but getting in the way. For example, he latched on to the question of what to do with her books. I told him three times not to worry about it tonight. Some of those books are mine, anyway. But he won't let it go. I bet he tries to box up and give away my books. Then he was asking about her clothes. Geez that can really wait a few days if not months. Let's get through the insurance and the will and the funeral and the obituary first.
Other than that it's been very smooth. So not bad so far.
Annie in Delaware
My thoughts are with you, I’m so sorry.

Annie I’m sorry for your loss. Know that she was loved and cared for right up to the end, you saw to that. Prayers and hugs to you and your family. Don’t forget to take care of yourself during this tough time.

Lisa and anyone interested: We bought the RV and moved in March 31, 2017. We have been living in it for 7 years this March, traveling the first year. This is our 7th winter in New Mexico. The first was in southern New Mexico in a town right on the Mexican border. This will be our 6th Winter at Bottomless. We moved there in August 27, 2018. I love it here and there has been a change in management that really has helped the moral of the park employees/volunteers. I hope this new ranger continues to make good changes and really listen to the non-rangers living with the campers as to what needs to be done there.

Annie, condolences to you and your family. Glad your sister is there to help you and your dad.2

And Today is very interesting. In spoiler. Look and you will see why. Meanwhile, I won’t make my bed today and try to look on the bright side while eating candy!

Good morning, ladies.
Off for grocery shopping this morning. Need to get some fresh veggies/fruit for my Christmas platter along with some hor d'oeuvres. Also the liquor store is on my list to pick up a couple bottles of wine. Planning on our big meal (ham, perogies, cabbage rolls, stuffing/gravy....etc) for about 1:30 then will serve hor d'oeuvres later in the evening that everyone can munch on as they like. Think I will make my stuffing ahead of time and put it in the fridge to be baked along with the ham. Have to also do my pumpkin pie so will tackle those two projects tomorrow. Don't want to leave too much to do Sunday morning. Have to remember to make my loaf of bread for my stuffing later this afternoon (not really a big chore as I use a bread machine).
Looking forward to our family time on Sunday.

Michele: I hope Loki is okay!
Barbie Cat: Yes! The count down to Christmas has begun!
AuntiBK: Yes, One thing I have decided to do is cut back on bookclub! There is so much on my own I want to read! I will read several books for the book club a year and join the group at that time! I am going to try Tai Chi by zoom which will be less time consuming!
MachkA: I never heard of ops shop and tip shop. We have a thrift shop...mostly for clothes! I am amazed at all you do. I believe there is a season for major de-cluttering and down sizing. I guess my season for this has begun! I took a community college course on Access years ago. All I remember is something important about having a key!
Rebecca: I smiled at the red sneakers in your sister's picture!
Grandmallie: Wow! Miles is really concentrating on the ornament making!---Growing up!
Barbie: It's filled with memories is on of my road blocks for giving things away. I have about 30 copies of our wedding program from 30 plus years ago. Time to save 1 or 2 copies and part with the rest!
Carol: I love a bad day does not equal a bad life.
Dr. Katiebug: I have started the videos and enjoying them!
Heather: Interestingly I have gotten less cards than usual. I did manage to send a few out. Enjoyed the picture of you all eating. The food looks inviting. The cake looks delicious. I love the felt tree decorations!
Flea: May peace be with you as you pass the first anniversary of the passing of your mother.
Lisa: I will look into a FitBit watch. I would like the reminder to keep moving! I love your description of your day in the living room. Sounds relaxing!
Margaret Turk: i have never had a fluroide treatment at the dentist. I don't think I would pay for one. Congrats on getting under 180. Alas I got down to 185 and am back up to 190. I eat very little. I need to move more!
Rebecca: I can feel how much you enjoyed your meal! I hope you do it again real soon!
Well I got up through the night to work on the house and slept a couple hours at a time. I feel good right now. I will nap later. I am ready for the cleaner to arrive at 1pm. The decluttering course Dr. Katiebug recommended suggested ensuring the master bed room is clean so that you have a place of reprieve from the rest of the house. I took this to heart and de-cluttered my bed room and now I will enjoy being in this room while my son and daughter in law are here.
I have decided to change the living room. Not money I expected to spend but I had an old time Victorian theme and am ready to move on from this. I found someone to come tomorrow to move the couch into the family room. I am going to ask him to take the red rug with large flowers away. And the maroon recliner that seems heavy looking to me now.
Last night I purchased a yellow rug which will look good with a Baby blue couch. There is a Baby Blue couch on Wayfair I might take a chance on. There is also a baby blue leather couch at Macy's. But that is more high end. I would probably go to Atlanta to look at that in person if I went that route. Probably not. It is not necessary. So the room will be a cheerful blue and yellow. I will purchase accent chairs later in the year! Very different then Victorian!
My son asked me if I was sure I wanted to purchase the rug on impulse. I told him I had been looking for 90 minutes!
Peace to everyone!

I always make enough soup to have 2 bowls, then a bowl or two the next day. My Soup Queen status does not permit me to create in small one bowl increments. It goes against policy.😂

(((Annie, Dad, Sister and Family))) ~ Best thoughts for you all during this time.

Rosemarie and Dr Katy: About my Lunch with Sister and Niece! Sister wanted us to meet at the Cheesecake Factory which is at Perimeter Mall near Sandy Springs. I worked at an insurance company near there before I began teaching at age 27 and I had not been to Perimeter Mall in over 10 yrs. Good Grief! If I had not been able to use the navigation feature with my i-phone, I would never have been able to find the restaurant. The streets near the mall had all changed with strange lane merges and so many new to me businesses. The traffic was awful. Anyway, Rosemarie, when you mentioned going to Macy's to shop, it made me wonder if you would be going to the same mall. I doubt I will be going there again any time soon.

Annie--So sorry for your loss. Sending big HUGS AND PRAYERS.
Rosemarie--Your new room colors sound nice and cheery. Hope you enjoy it and share a picture.
My DSIL came off the vent yesterday and is doing well. Knows who everyone is and that is good. Hoping she can go home by Christmas.
Otherwise not a lot going on. I am all ready for Christmas, DH helped a lot, so will go to DOS on Sunday afternoon where all their children and grandchildren will be. Then Monday depending on weather will go to Souix City Iowa about 3 hours away to be with DD and DS that live in Iowa.

(((Annie))) like M suggestion of giving dad simple tasks. Sounds like that is what he is trying to do by focusing on the books...Love and hugs to you and your family. Churches do not have the volunteers like they did when your mom volunteered. If you want it at the church you could compromise and hire a caterer. If you are working with a funeral home they my have ideas or use your's. your dad's, your mom's favorite place to eat. Places like Panera do catering all the time. The friend whose son past last May from an accident used them and just had deserts rather than a meal. It was fine not to have a meal the funeral was at 2.
Friend's scan came back they do believe it is an infection so upping the antibiotics. I wish CT scans did not use such high radiation to see what is going on inside! She had high doses to treat breast cancer two years ago!
Heather LOVE LOVE LOVE the towel.
We celebrated Christmas yesterday because of DS schedule. Husband was able to go to lunch with us at an Indian restaurant. Delicious. Son liked the dragon kite I bought him. DH liked the wren house I got him. I found that last minute. DH likes the wrens but the house of 15-20 years fell apart at the last season. I told DS the new set of pink flamingos were from him and son who died. Twenty years ago they gave me pair for Mother's Day so I didn't have to tend them. I bought the pair at the local hardware store by my son's house. It was our go to place for home repair while he was alive. My wish as I opened it was he was here with us and well.Younger son was touched.
Getting the feedback on my Christmas letter, singing the Canta at church, having a such a lovely time with DS and DH yesterday, lunch Christmas parties, relative get together, lunches with friends...Have made this a lovely holiday season. On Tuesday our painting group is going to sing Christmas carols for a housebound member. I missed singing with my church group this year so looking forward to it.9 -
Very much a normal day. I did pop out to buy a few last minute things for Christmas Eve, and had a fun chat with a shopkeeper. It almost seems too quiet for us. I thought we might be having the girls a bit, but no request has been forthcoming. I like the peace, but I'm missing them. My fault, as I rejected the idea of having the whole family over! Be careful what you wish for.
My brother rang, which was nice. He told me that his expected grandchild is going to be a boy. This is the baby that the wedding couple were expecting. I still owe her a wedding present! My brother has a bad cold, his wife has a fluey thing. Their car is on the blink. Otherwise they would have been to see us. He is giving our Christmas present money to a children's library in Uganda. Happy with that. He also has two great grandsons due in March! His family is HUGE!
Then G rang. Still, itching and the rash is all over now. She is putting on scabies cream again tonight. Totally fed up with no definitive diagnosis. She is still going off to her recorder group tomorrow. Long drive. And another long drive for Christmas. Stalwart.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
RV Rita: It took about 15 seconds and I understood why today is a good day!
Carol: I do know the Cheesecake Factory at the Perimeter Mall and the traffic is difficult there. Probably been 10 to 12 years since I have been there. This couch is at the Gwinnett Macy's Furniture Gallery. I have never been there. I don't think I will go. The couch is pricey and hopefully not necessary at this point in life. My son does have 3 dogs and I might get a dog. I have had great luck with leather couches holding up with dogs on them. But that does not justify getting the Macy's couch at this point.
Margaret Turk: So glad you are enjoying Christmas!
I have previously said I sold the disability van. I am beginning to ponder getting a used hybrid Toyota Camry. I could wait 2 years with my present car and save money, but car prices could go up. So maybe it isn't worth waiting 2 years. I don't know anything about hybrids. I think I will stop pondering and watch a Hallmark Christmas movie....and maybe even work out!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia!

Having lost 79lb I am only 7 away from goal. Man, this 7lb has been the hardest of all. Probably lack of motivation now and being tired. Was hoping to get this for a xmas present to myself. Now thinking to get rid of it before the New Year and to start the New Year at goal - not sure if this is a bit too much pressure and stop me enjoying xmas. Still, trying to keep my head on and take it as what ever will be will be, but jeeze I want this 7lb off so much,10

Had a good class last night- was rushing around, had to go take care of friends' pets(6cats and a dog) on my way to Zumba- realized as I was walking out the door that I hadn't eaten. Just had a small bowl of wonton soup at lunch. Grabbed an energy/protein bar. Was great at keeping me going during class BUT the caffiene was still kicking in at 3AM- Between 12 and 3:30 AM, I took two melatonin(3hrs apart) and took a massaging shower before finally falling and staying asleep. Woke up a bit before 8. My cats thought it was breakfast time because I got up to use the bathroom. Can't get back to sleep with 6 starving kitties on the bed. Fed them then the other ones in the kitchen and outside then over to my friends to feed her furbabies. Tonight will be the last time-they are coming home from Vegas late tonight
Have Ezie all day today so have been keeping her busy- painting a Christmas tree skirt with glitter glue. She works on it for a bit then leaves and comes back. Just glue with different colored glitter mixed in. Going to be really cute when she is done.
Have beef for broccoli beef in the pressure cooker. I usually use the baking soda trick on the meat like the Chinese restaurants use but trying the pressure cooker instead. Rice is already cooked. Pot stickers just need to be steamed then fried. Rice is already cooked. Dh may be bringing home sukiyaki from his mom. Not sure if she is cooking today or tomorrow.(I thought she was doing it yesterday so I didn't cook-came home from class and everyone was hungry)
Just need to get through the next few hours then go to bed early.
Sunny here in Napa Valley, CA after days of rain.

Rosemarie I love hearing the excitement in your writing about the changes in the bedroom and living room. Sounds wonderful.
Vicki Such a small world! You said Sioux City and my ears and brain lit up. One of my dear friends from my time in the Phillipines always talks about going to the big city (Sioux City). She lives in Floyd, IA. About 3 hours east.
Rosemarie and Carol Same thing....I know Gwinnett from when my sister lived in Lawerenceburg and Alpharetta. Really a small world!
@spammyamfa- Great job on the loss so far! You ate correct, the last few pounds are the hardest. I think our bodies are saying....NO....ENOUGH....but persistence will win out.
I need to head to grocery.

Worked, started to vacuum and it was making this horrible racket. Seems we needed a new actuator so I took it to this vacuum place near here and they sold me a new one. Then stopped at WalMart because the Swiffer we had for some reason was not putting out cleaner so we needed a new one (we had tried cleaning the valves to no help). Then stopped at Ollies to see if I could get more “to/from” tags (since Jess waits until the last minute then had her gifts shipped here, so I’m sure she’s planning to wrap them here. It’s almost like “why bother wrapping on Fri just to open it on Sat” but they didn’t have any so if I see some, I’ll pick them up. Came home, went for my walk around the neighborhood then used the Swiffer.
Barbie – thanks for the reminder to take the things out of the freezer for Christmas Eve. I’ll need to go to Publix, probably tomorrow, for the fish
Annie – dear heart, I’m so very sorry (((BIG HUG)))). You’ve been such a blessing to your mom and dad. Know that there’s a special place in heaven for you (and every other caregiver). I can hardly imagine how your dad is feeling, poor dear heart. So glad your sister was with you. I wish she could stay longer. Be sure to keep up with your horseback riding. You need an outlet. I like Allie’s suggestion of adult daycare. Look into it
Made an appt. to get the root canal on the one tooth. It hasn’t felt “right” in a long time. It hurts when I bite down on something hard, like a raw carrot. I really think I’d just be putting off the inevitable. Better to get it done before we go to FL
Need ideas from people: I always feel that I should have something for people to eat when they come to see the decorations and then come inside to see the trees. Yet, I’m a bit hard pressed for something that I can make ahead of time, maybe kept refrigerated and take out of the refrigerator when I have someone over. Everyone seems to have their fill of cookies for the holidays, so I’m not inclined to have lots of cookies. Any suggestions for something I can make ahead of time and just pull out when we have company? A cheese ball doesn’t really excite me. I’d have cookies for kids but I do think adults would like something more. Cheese cubes dry out. Ideas???????
Rosemarie – good for you getting a few new things!
Allie – great hairdo
Soup kitchen tomorrow. They’re having it at the church next door since they’ll also be giving out toys for the parents to pick up for their kids. Then I’ll probably go to Publix to get the fish for Sat. I probably could have gotten it today while I was up that way at the vacuum place. Since the fish is fresh, I wasn’t sure if I could wait 2 days to cook it. I called and they said that they wouldn’t recommend more than 3 days without cooking it.
Joy – what kind of hors duerves (wrong spelling, I know) are you having?
Michele NC4 -
Michele Fruit tray? Veggie tray? Easily refillable. Could offer small cups (paper) to put dip in and hold fruit or veggies. Cheese and crackers. I forget what they are called products wrapped around cheese.
Just ideas. I don't think people expect anything if just visiting to see decorations though ..2 -
Today I fixed a nice shrimp salad. About 5 jumbo shrimp (that always makes me giggle), cheddar cheese, black olives, walnuts, fridge pickles and homemade dressing (just ketchup, mayo, ACV, and sprinkling of Old Bay. It was delightful!

Gave Chispa a bath, cut her hair and put on her onesie. She’s gotten in the habit of going upstairs by herself and sleeping upstairs (there’s a dog bed up there). I went to goodwill and found 3 red t-shirts for the kids. When it’s 50 degrees or warmer I don’t put their Christmas sweaters on, they will get too hot for the 6 mile walk. I put t-shirts on them because the ground is wet and when they walk they kick up dirt onto their bellies. This way I have less to wipe/clean once we get home.9
-
Kylia – I should have been more specific. See, I’m looking for something that would be fresh multiple times. Fruit and vegetable trays are typically good for the first time. I’m thinking maybe on the lines of an hors duerve (wrong spelling, I know) that I can bake in advance and then just microwave shortly before the people come (like bacon wrapped whatever. I think pizza bites get mushy in the microwave,). Just going to keep on thinking (and maybe checking the store for ideas)
pip – you take such good care of those babies.
Shower and bed. Nite all

I would go with fruit and veg. You'd have a platter out, and several platters lying in wait in the fridge.
But if you want to cook stuff, down here you'd go with spring rolls, party pies and sausage roll bites.
