Hello all,
We are back from a road trip. It was a lovely jaunt through Arizona. We did some hiking there and in Nevada. There was an unbelievable amount of people hiking in Sedona. Most were "tourist" hikers who trailed off after the first mile or so. But I could not believe how many people there were. It was really tough to get through that first mile for this super introvert. Just feeling their presence when I know they were only there because they saw something on Instagram or Facebook made it worse for me. I miss travel before social media. It was much nicer.

That's one of the problems with working in a cruise ship stop city like I do. (Hobart)
During the winter, I can nip out at lunch and get stuff done or go for walks and there aren't many people around.
But come summer, when these enormous blocks of flats dock, and thousands of people pour into the city, it's a struggle to run errands and to find a place to walk where there aren't teaming hoards of people.
They also bring disease to our little island ... like the COVID I'm still struggling with.
First place they all seem to go is to "my" chemist, the chemist where I get my and my husband's medication. I walk in and am climbing over people to get to the pharmacy counter. I had to do that on the Monday of the week I came down with COVID so I've got a strong suspicion that's where I was infected.
It baffles me why they've all got to go to these places at lunch time.
As another super introvert, I feel like I want a Fezzik from the Princess Bride to accompany me!!

We spent 6 weeks travelling through the US in 2012 and took in many of the places you've just been to. We were in most of those places in November and December, and fortunately, they weren't too crowded then. But it wasn't school holidays yet.

Machka - irresponsible dog owners are such a pain. It’s a shame you have to rearrange your yard to have peace.
I drink at least one Coke a day. I had given it up for 2 years and started again for some stupid reason. I am working on getting rid of it again.
I prefer salty to sugar except for this.
I’m so happy to read that your legal stuff with DH’s accident has been settled. What a time that has been.
Kylia - we watched the Nashville New Year as well. I was surprised to see Thomas Rhett perform so much compared to the others.
I think you should be able to go in late, but I understand the time tracking. I have done it in all of my jobs, it never seems to work out in the employees favour.
Kelly - that pothole is hilarious.
I too am trying to get my health back. I have been in pain for years and I am tired of it. I just need my foot to settle and I can start doing more. I did buy the sling that Allie suggested, it arrived yesterday.
Barbie - Like Lisa I truly enjoy your wisdom.
Rita - I like your goals for 2024, I may steal a couple. Still thinking.
Carol - I need to throw a bunch of that stuff out too. It’s all so expensive I hate to be wasteful though.
Machka - I enjoyed the MFP carols.
Heather - I have been inspired by you and your tossing out. I am doing the same and I’m starting with my Christmas stuff.
I also bagged up one bag of toys for Trash and another bag for my next door neighbour’s little boy.
Jonah likes to irritate Michaela too, but on the other hand when I was sorting their toys there were some he told me to keep because Michaela likes them, he also played along with it being midnight at 10pm so he didn’t ruin her excitement.
I have never understood the “kids” that think their parents owe them an inheritance. I have no intention (or ability) to leave anything for my girls and they would be very upset to know there were things I wanted to do, but was not because I wanted to leave to them.
My parents and grandparents never had anything to leave to me except things and exceptional memories. I hope my girls feel the same.
Kylia - Like you I tune out the news for the same reason. I am going to have to start being up to date on current events when I start my practicum. I’m not looking forward to that.
Rosemarie - I would be irked too. I think he probably thinks he’s helping but you don’t need his permission and would like his blessing but it’s not necessary to make you feel better. I would probably buy more just to prove a point, but I can be a little passive-aggressive that way.
Flea - Happy Anniversary
Kylia - I made a book like what Michele is talking about. I, when I was sending cards, would spend January making the cards for people. I would address them and put a stamp on them. The first of the month I dropped them in the mail. Some got cards late some early, but it kept me sending regularly.
I set reminders for things in the evening early in the day because I’ve been caught missing things too.
Lisa - you are important as a customer though. 😂
Tina - I’m sorry your trip was too people-y. I have visited, new to me,attractions and such only because of social media. Funny how each of us look at things differently.
Michele - sorry for your friend.
I managed to get Christmas down except for my village. I’m leaving it in the China cabinet until my wall is done. It will be lighter to move it this way.
I have a box and a bag in the car to take to the thrift store. I took a bag of toys to my little neighbour and I’ve posted a shelf on the local Freebie group.
Penny near the North Pole showed us a picture one year showing that she left lights in vases and such after taking Christmas down. I have followed her lead ever since. I just love the soft lighting.
Classes started again today, this is a hard to stay interested course. I’m hoping tomorrow it lightens up a bit.
I’m watching a new to Canada show called Only Murders in the Building. Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez. It’s pretty good.

I started doing the lights in vases thing after staying at a B&B that did that. This is mine from a few years ago:
It was Barbie who posted the MFP carols.
It is unfortunate that we had to rearrange our yard, but it might turn out nicer.
The house behind us is a rental and they've had a string of ... odd ... people there. The single mother who could not talk to her little boy without yelling at the top of her lungs. Poor kid. The couple who moved in with an enormous, aggressive, barky dog who came into our yard a few times and scared my husband. They were really odd - he cut down all the trees and sold the wood for firewood!! Finally it seemed the couple split up - he and the dog disappeared and a few months later, she went. Now this current couple is there, but when they moved in, they had another girl with them for a while until another woman started coming to the house, parking in the driveway and calling the girl on her phone and arguing and fighting with her. The girl was on the phone in the house and wouldn't open the door. I'd be out there weeding and could hear the argument because the woman in the car turned the volume on her phone all the way up so the whole neighbourhood could hear. Eventually the girl moved out leaving the couple on their own. Before, they'd chat to us occasionally but since then they just glower at everyone, sit outside and smoke, and of course this dog suddenly turned up.
Anyway, we figured that the dogs that appear over there are usually in the back half of the yard so we'll just move our relaxing area away from the back half of the yard, away from this dog and any others that might come along.

Hi, I am so excited to be here, today i had 13,054 steps. I am so proud of me. I have to remember little steps goes a long way.

Tina - I'm glad that Machka posted that medical link. Take a look. Pain is never 'in your head' - don't let the doctors fob you off. It sounds absolutely awful.
My main concern when it is super windy is that the TV aerial on the roof will come down. It never has! At the moment, the house opposite us is having its roof replaced. There is mighty, towering, scaffolding and plastic sheeting all over it, which makes a horrible noise. Some of the sheeting came loose yesterday. The workmen had had to stop working in the high winds, so there was no one to secure it. Fortunately, everything has survived. Last time our front side fence came down but the new one has stayed up.
Hair trim today. My old stylist has left, so I have got to try out a new one. The last one was the best cutter I have ever had. When you have a dead straight long bob, that is important.

Tina - This is the same as the recipe I use, though I found mine on Instagram. I add a sliced red pepper to the initial onion stage, and I use lots of spinach at the end. I use a very large frying pand with a lid, and just put it over the spinach until it's wilted. The most tedious bit is frying the halloumi, which takes patience.

Not enough time to exercise?
168 hours in a week:
- 59.5 hours for sleep (7 days * 8.5 hours)
- 47.5 hours for work and getting ready for work (5 days * 9.5 hours)
- 7.5 hours for transportation to and from work (5 days * 1.5 hours)
- 14 hours for housework, groceries, laundry etc. (7 days * 2 hours)
- 6 hours for clubs and associations (beekeeping, cycling, brain, etc.)
- 10.5 hours for exercise (the recommended amount of 90 minutes a day * 7 days)
= 23 hours per week for ... whatever you want. 🙂 Like (last year) the legal stuff I was working on. Like courses. Like decluttering projects. Like more exercise.
And just think, if we did do 90 minutes of exercise a day, that's 547.5 hours of exercise in a year!!
Last year I recorded 243 hours of exercise. This year I may potentially have more time so who knows!! (Once I get over COVID).
Something to think about.

Good morning ladies!
Tina hugs!
Flea happy anniversary!
Lisa sorry about your missing pieces.
I was sick in bed all day yesterday. Of course Dad came up to see what the dinner plan was. I think today will be better, I can walk around a few minutes without dizziness.
Today I told my dad that he shouldn't go outside in his underwear to get the paper. He said it was okay, because it was only for a few seconds. I hate that, when he just brushes off my opinion. It's not a private yard, and the streetlight is right there.
Anyway, have a good day my friends!

Good Wednesday!
Bloodwork this morning. Pick up more honey from beekeeper. Work. DH to chiropractor. Work. Then hair appointment. She is fitting me in at end of her day. Yay!
Tina Pain is not in your head! Keep investigating. I have had two great doctors that listened to me and didn't quit on me. Hard to find that these days.
Annette WOW! Those steps are impressive.
Tracey Thank you for that suggestion on cards. I was thinking something along those lines. I like the lights in jars.
Machka You have amazing energy and organizing skills. I am inspired.
Annie i hope nothing serious. You have been under a lot of stress for awhile. Your body may just be saying rest. Take care of you!
Last night after my brain/emotions got messed up from missed appointment, I had a hard time getting things to work. Finally settled down enough to catch up DH's check book registries, renewed our vehicle registrations, paid a couple bills, read/cleared emails, and got printer hooked up to my laptop. So productive at least.
Gotta get ready for work.
Hugs!
Welcomes!

Heather - The halloumi sounds wonderful, but I'm a sucker for any kind of cooked cheese. Might check the specialty cheeses in the local stores, but it's a long shot in Arkansas...
Annie - At his age and stage, changing your dad's behavior is not really an option, it's just an irritation and disappointment for you. Keeping his underwear covered may have been something he only did for your mother's sake, and this is his way of going forward. Or it might just be sheer cussedness. Take a breath, kiddo, and move on to the important stuff. Still holding you in my heart, and hope you feel better today.
Annette in MN - Welcome! Well done on those steps. Come back often, tell us how you're doing, or ask questions. We're glad you're here, as well as welcoming to everyone new.
Kylia - On the feeling after missing an appointment, I know that discombobulated thing very well. I didn't remember to call the furniture people until nearly 9 p.m. last night, and Corey stopped me before I picked up the phone. He told me I was tired, and it was not the time to start a conversation that could well be frustrating. After 27 years of being ignored by the now ex-husband, it's still weird to live with someone who actually sees me. He's more sensitive to me, and has a better read for my emotions than me some days.
Rori - And speaking of the ex, you know how you can become allergic to something after repeated exposure? I learned how to bowl, play racquetball, play softball, shoot, and most importantly, how to golf, from my ex. It was necessary to be able to see him on any weekend. I literally took a college class in how to golf because of him. So... I'm allergic to golf, but if you and your friend visit, you and I can sit in the new sunroom and gab until the deer come home and watch them wander through the yard because they know they're safe here. That would be awesome. I don't even know if there are golf courses in Arkansas!
Tina - I agree. Get a different doctor. The "all in your head" thing is a copout so they don't have to actually go to the effort to figure out what's going on.
Machka - The orientation and part of the build of our sunroom had some bit to do with the dogs next door - the wall facing that way is solid, and built behind a small wall of cedars to eliminate both sight and sound from that direction - and the windows are all faced toward our land. I think, like you, that there is some serendipity in that arrangement, as well as necessity. We don't know who might move next door and what dogs they would have in future. The neighbors just got rid of one dog and got another one, but luckily much smaller. Still barks🐕. 🤷🏻
Acupuncturist at 1:30, reading this morning. Just a nice quiet day in the offing.
Love y'all!

Thanks but sadly these days I have all the energy of a sloth.
We do one thing in the afternoon and that's it for me. I'm utterly exhausted.
I'm hoping this phase of COVID passes soon and I get some energy back or I am going to have difficulty going back to work next week.

My intention for the 12 crafts is to at least do 1 different one every month. I color and crochet regularly, but to change it up a little. I’ve already finished one book (which to be honest was close to done at year change) colored and crocheted on the first. Felt ill yesterday so did nothing. But on the First, I made sure to do the things I want to make habit that day. Below, I have my words of the year and their definitions, along with a statement of purpose. Goals in spoiler.
2024 Goals
Words of the year: simplify, empowered, and authentic.
SIMPLIFY—make (something) simpler or easier to do or understand.
EMPOWERED—give (someone) the authority or power to do something.
AUTHENTIC—.
of undisputed origin; genuine.
I will be authentic and empowered while working to simplify my life.

2. Walk 7250 steps daily. 1/31
3. 30 minutes activity 1/7 days a week
4. Journal 1/5 days a week
5. Meditate 2/7 days a week
6. Family phone calls 12/12 monthly.
7. Save $1000 for emergencies by depositing $50 a month into savings and not touching it. 0/1000
8. Research and apply for senior independent living in Roswell, one a month. 0/12
9. Drink 8 days a month or less. 0/8
10. Read 1/24 books this year.“I’m learning to treat myself as if I am valuable. I find that when I practice long enough, I begin to believe it.” In All Our Affairs

“Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can, and

There's something I want to get my doctor to follow up on with me.
I also have pelvic region issues and itching, stinging feet from time to time. It's been with me for 2 or 3 decades and was worse when I had my periods, just before my periods and maybe on the first day. Then it would go away till the next month. Now it seems to come on randomly.
I've asked doctors about it, but they've always said that the female body can have odd symptoms and as I moved into perimenopause, they told me that perimenopause can produce odd symptoms.
But more recently I've turned to Dr Google and came up with this: Pudendal Neuralgia
https://www.thepelvichub.com/pelvic-health/pudendal-nerve-neuralgia-symptoms
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/24438-pudendal-neuralgia
https://www.melbournepaingroup.com.au/conditions/pudendal-neuralgia
(and heaps more)
Unfortunately for me, it would appear that mine could be caused by "Some sports/exercises – particularly cycling (especially long distance)" and one of the recommendations is to stop cycling. But that's not going to happen!!
So we'll see. More investigation needed.
Machka in Oz
Thank you for that! I'll take a look. I also have more pain when I do abdominal exercises - lower ones specifically. I won't stop activity either. I hope you figure out your issue too!

Forgot to mention. I have Renal doc early tomorrow, and I can’t wait. I’ve had pain in both sides of my lower back and gut for at least 4 months now. The bloodwork I had last week came back and on the patient portal, I looked up the odd ones and all point to some stage of kidney disease. I’m still hoping for just an infection, but will find out more tomorrow.
I’ve got my few Christmas decorations down, but just noticed one I missed. Like my DH says, there is always 1 that gets missed. Staying home today and paying bills. Hope to get a good walk in this morning while doing the reservations. That is the best time for me to walk. I hope the ache isn’t too bad so I can get a walk in. I really need to get up and get moving. After an uncomfortable night with 4 bathroom breaks and dog complaining to get back on bed, I’m not too ambitious!

Pain-I do not doubt for a second that my pain is NOT all in my head. To be fair, my GP doesn't think it's in my head. She recommended I go to a Gastro, but I am quite sure that my problem is not gastro and I don't want anyone sticking a scope down my throat for nothing. So, I'll dig around a bit, check out Machka's links, and see what I can find out. I'm about to change insurance too, so there's that to deal with.
It's a wonderfully rainy day.

I learned interesting things at DH's chiropractic appointment today. 1) walking backwards 15 mins per day (or 3 5 mins) helps with hip and lower back relief . You work totally different muscles that help lubricate the spinal column. I did 5 mins while DH was on table. My front hip is now tender-lol! Will add that to walking.2) It was recommended that DH lay on his side for masseuse to work on lower back, that stretches instead of compressing to spinal column. DH has some disc damage there. Muscles are the reason for his back pain above normal pain level. 3) High processed foods and high sugars both cause inflammation spikes in the body. (Glad I didn't bake those cookies for holidays). 4) Because of the lower disc damage in DH's back, he shouldn't walk hills. Grumble...if I do ever manage to get him walking driveway with me which has a hill, he is to zig zag on hill.
All in all, DH isn't in bad shape for his age, but needs to quit fighting me on changes in life style and diet. These changes would be easier if both were participating.
Better get to work. Headache today. I have lots of water, just ate, am having tea since didn't get coffee this morning. So it is either lack of caffeine or the front coming in.
Must do some work.....

Hey ladies!
Yesterday was my "share the wealth" day as I sent packages to people of stuff I am no longer using. One was a package to my niece of containers of loose jewelry because I decided I was not making jewelry trees. Then another box was to a pen pal that wanted to start scrap booking so I sent her loose blank pages that were in my plastic sleeves. I bought them for the sleeves only, so I didn't see myself using the blank lined pages anytime soon. Finally I sent a package with the vintage sheet music to my eldest sister to paint her birds on. All it only cost $37 so a small price to pay to get the items to people that will use them. It was only a pain when I had to wait in line forever at the post office.
Today husband wants to eat dinner out. Not sure where we are planning to go.
So nice to look on my side table and see miss Athena smiling at me.💖
Ordered my youngest son some special slacks he likes. They are from a Japanese company that makes slacks the construction workers use. Think of "Aladdin pants", roomy in the thighs and tapers down to the ankle. They were $45 and the shipping was $30! Darn expensive kid. 💖
I have started Dullingo studying Japanese again. I can now tell someone " she or he is a nice or cool lawyer, doctor, person, teacher or student.👍🏼 I can order sushi, water, rice.😂. Yum.
Hugs to those that need them!💖

Threw out a few clothes and found four tops for donation.
Threw out an old, non stick, now stick, fry pan and a similar small saucepan. Heard the bin lorry taking it away.
So much pleasure!
Had my hair trimmed. What a relief! It hasn't been done since before the early October wedding. The increase in interest rates has really made a difference to me. I might be able to send the bride her delayed wedding present (money).
Soon to book a dentist check up.

Dropping in to read a little before my next meeting - Thank you for the welcome! What is everyone working on for goals this year?
I don't have goals, rather I have resolutions. I can control my actions but I can't control the outcome. My daily resolutions include drinking 6-8 glasses of water, seeking every opportunity to be active, walking at least 10,000 steps, reading something that enlarges my spiritual life, spending quality time with my husband and dogs, remembering my word for the year "enough".

I will be busy putting this kit together. When done, it will have lights and the nook will sit in our library shelf.👍🏼
