Still dealing with the Arctic blast. 11F this morning. Went to go to work and my truck battery was dead. Then while taking the battery out, one of the battery terminals broke off. So had to replace both...all while working in 11F weather 😕
Otherwise everything is great.
Did 6 TM after work.

38.60/85.00 mile goal
I did a Foundation run on the treadmill today. I walked half a mile for warm up and a mile for cool down at 3.8 mph. The run was 5 min at 4.2mph, 10 min at 4.5 mph, 3 x (2/5 min at 4.0/4.6 mph), 2:12 min at 6.0 mph. My goal was to keep my HR under 142, which I did for the first 35 min. Avg pace was 13:24 min/mile. Avg HR was 129 with a max of 157bpm - hit at the end of the 6.0 mph run.
I also walked to the mailbox twice in 20F (-6.66C - hahah @tarun_yadavA ) temperature. I have signed up for the app that lets me know what I am getting in the mail each day. I was supposed to get some important stuff today, so I walked down at 3 and 4:30. Nothing. If it ran, he/she didn't stop at my box. So frustrating. My driveway is icy, so I doubt if I'll be driving anywhere this week.
This part of the driveway doesn't get much sun, so the snow/ice stays forever.
Tippy on the top of the hill in the first picture.
The "main road" down the hill from where my mailbox is located.

Love the deer picture @Teresa502 . I'm impressed that you got out and ran 3 miles yesterday. Great job on getting the treadmill run in today. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow morning's temps. You definitely had a lot more snow than I did.
You are improving so much @yirara !
Nice treadmill run @Laurz9191 .
@martaindale I'm glad you aren't too banged up from the fall. Seems like the timing is perfect for some post race rest days.
You did great @SummerSkier !
Way to get it done @daria0919 .
Sorry for all the car trouble you had @Scott6255 . Glad you got it taken care of and got in a good TM run after work.4 -

I didn't get out this morning. 14°F feels like 1° is just too cold for me. I did go for a short run at lunch. I had 25 minutes available to run, so I ran 2.5 miles in 24:37 minutes. I was pretty pleased with that. It was 23°F feels like 14° but it was sunny so that helped. I hated not getting my usual 6 miles, but honestly I don't think I would want to go too much longer in this cold. I haven't decided what I will do tomorrow. I am ready for winter to be over. We haven't had any snow. I did see a couple of icy intersections, but they were from burst water pipes. 🥶
The snow pictures are pretty, but I am glad we aren't getting any of that.

Morning everyone!
Got in 5 (at 09"48).
I've decided to stop whining about the weather...
@quilteryoyo @Teresa502 @Laurz9191 you guys clearly win with your pretty snow pics! 😊
PS: @quilteryoyo lol @ the Celsius conversion hahaha8 -
@quilteryoyo that mail USPS APP is notorious for being close but not 100 percent. It is usually good to about 2 days tho so hopefully your mail will show up soon. I used to get notifications of packages and then never get them until I checked with my address one cul du sac over and after that for many years we were mail twins and texted often with misdelivered mail.
@kgirlhart I did the same as you yesterday only I waited until it was over 30. Today should warm up but again it is only 17 deg and I am not anxious to go out.
@scott6255 oh my. That is really rough to do in 11 deg weather! Things always seem to happen like that at the most inconvenient time. I think I would have gotten a tow to NTB or something.5 -
SummerSkier wrote: »@scott6255 oh my. That is really rough to do in 11 deg weather! Things always seem to happen like that at the most inconvenient time. I think I would have gotten a tow to NTB or something.
@quilteryoyo - I don't think our mail ran yesterday. I guess they used their extreme winter weather button and stayed safe and warm.
5 -
@kgirlhart Great job of getting out for a quick run. I don't blame you for not going any longer. Hopefully we will all get some warmer weather next week.
@tarun_yadavA You can complain about your weather if you wish. It's all relative.
@SummerSkier My dad and someone that had the same street number, but different street, used to get each other's VA medications all the time. They would call and exchange. I just hated that I walked a mile in those conditions yesterday for nothing. Hopefully it will come today.
@Teresa502 I wonder if that happened here. I have given my carrier permission to leave my mail at mom's if it is too icy at my box, after she slid in the ditch a few years back. But, as far as we could tell, they didn't run yesterday...or at least didn't stop at our boxes.
4 -
@quilteryoyo my mom put a motion sensor inside the mailbox that rings like a doorbell in the house when the mail is delivered. You'd have to check the range on them though, as I know your box is a bit farther from your house.
Doesn't look like the arctic blast is coming my way. I might be the only one who is sad about that. Stay warm, everyone!6 -
@martaindale aching. Thanks for asking. Glad you are healing.
@Chris_in_cal beautiful picture
Ran the treadmill yesterday. Forgot how uneventful it is. Looking forward to our heatwave this afternoon for a run 18 F🤣
The snow is beautiful and Alfie is restless. We both need to get out.
Looking for a race to break it up a bit.9 -

I would have taken it as a sign to go back in the house and stay home! I bet your fingers were frozen @Scott6255. I imagine that it's hard to do much mechanic work with gloves on.
I literally just said that to my DH while telling him about @Scott6255's adventure to get to work!
@elizury - I think we need to see a picture of Alfie!
Since I have no appointments or treatments this week we decided spur of the moment to get away for a few days. We went from warmish So California to Zion National park where the high will be in the high 40's and the low was 31 this morning. Not planning to do any hiking although the trails near the hotel, that I ran last time we were here, are calling out to me. I am staying warm, enjoying the views and snuggling with Hobbes.7 -

Phew. Not a good run. Today every step felt like wading through custard. But I got a very nice long distance, despite it not being an easy run. And got a very nice time (for me).7 -
@Phew. Not a good run. Today every step felt like wading through custard. But I got a very nice long distance, despite it not being an easy run. And got a very nice time (for me).
Wading through custard. I like that description, even if it was a sticky situation .
I suppose my run was much the same. It was beautiful and there was snow everywhere. Some of my run had compacted snow which was more slippery but a “faster” surface. Running on snow - for me at least - is significantly slower then not running on snow. About half the run was on loose snow which was a bit like running in sand (or custard ). It took my butt about 90 minutes to thaw out after my run, which is the main reason why I’ve been opting for the treadmill so much lately. I ran 12.3km. I can’t decide if I want to do treadmill or snow tomorrow as it snowed a bunch more this afternoon and will only be deeper tomorrow. It will be beautiful slog if I can talk myself into going outside.
So far 110.3/200km for January. I feel like I have been working hard for everyone km this month.

Congrats on your nice run! My legs for some reason where just super heavy today and just lifting them up felt like I had lead in my shoe soles. Just a bad day. Happens every now and then.4 -
Oh gosh, there goes my running plan! Looks like there's a proper storm on the way.
Friday things still look good at 3bf, Sunday (supposed to run fast): 7bf, Monday 8bf and rain and then the weather remains *kitten* for the week. I'm off all day on Wednesday to see a surgeon in a town some 4.5hrs away. With the storm I'm sure trains will be delayed. Sigh. Thus.. no idea what I'll do from Sunday if things don't change.5 -
Thanks for the idea @polskagirl01 . My box is probably too far away, but you never know as the crow flies it might not be. Maybe you'll get some colder weather soon.
@chris_in_cal Poor baby. I feel so sorry for you having to put on your hoody.
Great running @yirara ! Those runs are so hard, but you hung in there. I hope the next one is easier. I hope you figure out how to get in some running next week.
You're doing great @Laurz9191 .
@shanaber I almost missed your post that you are on a spontaneous trip to Zion. Enjoy the view and snuggles!4 -

41.60/85.00 mile goal
My plan called for another foundation run or cross training today. I decided to walk 3 miles on the treadmill for cross training. I watched an episode of Long Lost Family while I walked. I like that reality show. It's interesting to see the different reasons that people were given up for adoption and how, despite being raised by others, they are often so much like their birth parents.5 -

The weather was calling for 21° feels like 13° this morning. I debated about running at lunch again. But it is hard and a little stressful to run on my lunch break so I decided to suck it up and go in the morning. When I got up it was 18° feels like 7°. The weather app said 42° feels like 33° at lunch. I almost changed my mind. But I decided that 8 mph winds was better than 15 mph winds, so I ran 6 miles in the morning before work. It was kind of tough, but not too bad once I got going. And by the time I got home it had warmed up to 21° feels like 13°. It should be warmer tomorrow. I am definitely ready for spring.
@shanaber I'm glad you were able to get away. Hobbes looks very cozy.

We are loving Zion as I knew we would. It is cold but so beautiful. Very relaxing. I did try to do a small (very small) little hike down a trail with carved steps and realized I was getting myself into a bad place. I really wanted to go down but after maybe a quarter way down I was feeling so unsteady I had to pocket my phone and hold onto the rocks to turn around and make my way back up to where Hobbes and Frank were waiting for me. It is frustrating that I was so strong and fit and now a few steps do me in... Oh well it will be my goal to get back to where I was.
Photo dump under the spoiler - I couldn't just pick one or two. 😊9 -
Back to the old stomping grounds, this training plan is a bit slow on the ramp up. It's okay, better than too fast and getting an injury. After a couple of weeks running is feeling good again, and more smooth.
January Running Goal: 13 runs, 50 miles- Jan 3 - 1.2 miles
- Jan 6 - 1.06 miles
- Jan 8 - 1.15 miles
- Jan 11-2.48 miles
- Jan 13-2.48 miles

Morning all.
Office today... Got in 3.39 at 09"427 -
Hello everyone. I got in 10.3km in the snow. The kids have a snow day today, so I was able to start a bit earlier. I enjoyed the run but it was hard to adjust to the different types of snow cover. I think I might refunction a pair of my old shoes for snow running by adding more traction.
It snowed a lot yesterday and the fresh powder was hard to work through. But, it was beautiful! My only other company was a cross country skier, someone walking his dogs and another snow runner like me .
So far 120.6/200km.7 -

1/3: 7.3 miles
1/4: 6 miles
1/5: 4.5 miles

1/11: 6.1 miles
1/13: 3.2 miles
1/14: 13.2 miles - La HM
1/18: 4.2 miles
I walked on the treadmill yesterday for almost an hour as various inclines and felt great. No soreness or weird twinges. This is the fastest I have felt back to normal after a race, which probably is a good indicator of my fitness level going in.
I went for an easy run today and again felt really good. I'm using the Garmin suggestions for the next 5 weeks leading up to my next race. Mostly I need to maintain fitness so this is a good time to see how their plans work for me.8
