How About We Don't Delete Newsfeeds

Keep the newsfeed. I’m not interested in making friends on the app, there’s other apps for that. I’m interested in how much calories I’ve burned or what I’m eating, not going public with all my info. I’ve used MFP for over ten years and managed just fine without having to do this.
Don't worry, they are keeping the food diary and exercise log and might even be enhancing those features to connect them up with your new profile and activity feed. They are, after all, the core of MFP. At its core, MFP is a calorie tracking tool.
Right @Betty
They are just removing the section where all the auto-posts go. "So-and-so has burned 112 calories walking". That sort of thing.
@Betty could a more thorough announcement be made ... outside this thread .... regarding what exactly is being removed (because it is unsupported technology) and what is staying and any new features. Unfortunately this hasn't been well announced and so I think some might misunderstand what's going and what is staying.
The majority of people who utilized the newsfeed did so because they wanted to stay away from the toxic community forums. Like I said in my previous post the newsfeed was a place where we could “hang out” with only those who fit into our worlds.
The “newsfeed was old, out dated and hard to keep up with” is a poor reason for getting rid of it. If anything it was a key part/selling point of the app. If all the of the smaller fitness apps are capable of having/managing personal newsfeeds I’m kinda shocked a big site like mfp isn’t

Don't tell me. I can't do anything about it. Email the Francisco Partners.2 -
Please save the newsfeed!!! It’s literally the only reason I use MFP!3
-
Please keep this amazing feature on MFP. It helps me feel connected to other users.5

So now that there’s no newsfeed what’s the point in adding friends? The profile feed thing looks like it was designed by a 13 yr old in 1995.6

I've been here since 2012, lost weight, maintained weight, gained weight and have been cheered on throughout to keep going by people in similar positions who I could open up to about binge eating in a way I can't to friends and family IRL who don't really understand and it's a space where you can feel comfortable discussing health, fitness and wellbeing in a way you can't on traditional social media.
MFP has given me such a good support system in that respect that even though I don't use the logging side anymore I still check in on my newsfeed from time to time and do for others what they have done for me. UA and the subsequent owners are ripping away at the lifeblood of MFP, goodbye unique selling point.
This change was snuck in more or less unannounced to the masses (ironically I learned about it from someone posting about it on my newsfeed).
I call bs on this "little-used" justification, it's clearly just looking at ad revenue over user experience yet again.
If it's little used why do so many people come to the Introduction category looking for friends?

This is not the fault of Under Armour. They quietly sold the company to Francisco Partners, a private investment firm located in California years ago. So, FP is the one that are running this formerly successful app/site to the ground.
It's tragic when you started off when it was great as I did and many others and witnessed the decline after the corporate acquisitions. I didn't like UA, but it was better than FP, which seems bent on destroying it with their narrow-minded "we know what is best so screw the prols" attitude.
I had already edited my post to reflect that UA had sold off to even more useless owners after realising they no longer own it. Thanks2 -
Been trying Lose It this week, and it sorta sucks. I wish MFP would just keep the newsfeed instead.3

I don't understand how they can say people don't use it. I know it's the first place I go when I open the app. It's the only place I have a chance of seeing my updated step count and remaining calories. I've seen people ask if they can get the app to default to it. How about they get rid of that useless and buggy dashboard instead?6

It is now gone from the mobile app. We mean nothing more then a payday to them7

SAVE THE NEWSFEED
MFP has been an integral part of my lifestyle mod/weight loss journey. Knowing that my accountability partner and my trainer were getting updates via the NEWSFEED inspired me to be consistent. I will definitely NOT be renewing my premium membership!3 -

Imagine my shock reading that MFP will be taking away the newsfeed.
WHY?? It doesn't make sense. The newsfeed is the easiest way to keep up with all our PALS!! Going to community and trying to catch up with friends there takes alot of time...time that alot of us don't have. Some of us have only a few minutes each day...with the newsfeed we use that precious time to catch up with our "PALS" you can't do that at the community.
Having the newsfeed is what makes MFP uniquely different than all the other fitness apps we could use and what keeps most of us here.
I can't speak for everyone here but my MFP friends have helped me through some of the toughest, happiest, greatest, times of my life. They have picked me up from the lowest of lows, held my hand through stressful periods of life and shouted from the rooftops celebrating my victories!!
The fitness journey is much more than just workout and diaries. It's living life to the fullest and my friends here have supported me every step of the way!! Taking away the newsfeed would take this relationship away from all of us. These people were connections I met here years ago that I now call family!! We have created friendships that run deeper than just support for our health journey. Don't take this connection away from us!!
I appreciate that you are looking for ways to improve MFP but taking the newsfeed away does not achieve this!!
I hope you listen to all the members that don't want to lose the newsfeed...I know if it's gone I'll be taking my premium membership elsewhere
#SAVE OUR NEWSFEED
Absolutely!!!!!! 😁😁😁7 -
Many peeps have joined Lose It. Let’s go to Lose It and push mfp to permanent failure6

This will actually get quite messy if they get rid of the news feed without any adequate replacement. When the majority people are unable to access what they do on a daily basis as routine, there will be significant vitriol that we haven't seen yet.4

I’m getting used to Lose It! And growing my community there. I’m liking it more all the time. Stick with it!

What do you suppose the majority of people will not be able to access?0 -
As a 5 year member of MFP, I reengaged earlier this year as new health and fitness goals emerged.
It’s only because I found 3 supportive community members that I have been hitting my goals. These 3 strangers helped me be accountable, they supported me and motivated me through their own achievements. Hopefully, I did the same for them.
To say that I am disappointed would be an understatement as I’m just beginning a lifelong lifestyle plan and having a small community with similar goals was key for me.
Sharing in a large forum isn’t my comfort zone and I’m not sure that I will post personal info here because engaging with a large group isn’t what motivates me.
From the day that I first engaged in the community pages, I felt that it was clunky and impersonal.7 -

I'm with michaela here. It took some getting used to but after sticking with it I'm happy at Lose It. Watching MFP's newsfeed get a little less stable everyday makes me realize I've made the right decision. I think if we stick with it we'll eventually be happy at Lose It. Personally I'm getting there anyway and I'm not overly fond of change8 -
Even though I only have a couple of friends, we have supported each other for over 4000 consecutive days, and we are very upset. This was a terrible decision. I will. no longer pay for Premium and will not recommend to others. It is a sad day on MFP.8

I have been on MFP for 12-14 years. The newsfeed is the best feature. But, like a lot of people I have moved over to Lose It. And yes, it takes some getting used to. But I'm choosing to look at it like its a new beginning...a restart! Sorry to lose MFP but no newsfeed, and I'm gone.8 -
Gutted newsfeed gone!!!1
-
Super bummer. I need the support from certain folks on a regular basis.
Now just a $50 calorie tracker? I paid for premium for me and my daughters -- mainly so we could easily connect and support. I'll be canceling mine (not that it matters to anyone!) and my girls.
Just wish they would have announced prior to my April renewal.4 -
Join Lose It. So many peeps are there now. Search for MFP Exodus Group4

I don't think that the forum is toxic. I've gotten nothing but helpful advice and great support since I've joined. If there are any trolls, they're probably on some of the more frivolous chit-chat threads that tend to attract men seeking women for non-health and fitness related reasons (I can't think of any other way to put it).9

FGS MFP bring it back!0

Now that the newsfeed is gone, looks like I’ll be looking for a replacement app. MFP just isn’t worth the premium fee anymore if there are better trackers out there.
Besides Lose It, any recommendations out there for other tracking apps that work well with iPhone/Apple Watch, which are my primary energy expenditure trackers?
Also looking for easy calorie/meal tracking with a barcode scanning feature and ability to interact with friends/support group easily. Thanks all! Time to go do my homework…2 -
Well, my app store is telling me it's time for an update. 😩😭
What an incredibly sad day.4 -

It won’t matter if you don’t update, eventually none of your friends will be able to post to the newsfeed anyway. See you on Lose It!5 -

As with most other spaces on the internet, there are a variety of characters here. In stark contrast to the old Weight Watchers forum, I don’t think I have seen any trolls in the strictest sense of the term.
Back in the early days of the Weight Watchers forum there was a person who was probably a high school student, who spent the hours between 3 and 5 PM East Coast time calling everyone else on the forum extremely rude fat phobic slurs. For months. And when Weight Watchers was contacted (by multiple users) they said there was nothing they could do about it. I paid $60 a month in 2006 dollars for the experience of be called a “walrus” daily, and then told by WW there was nothing they could do about it.
By contrast these forums are absolutely delightful. Are there a few users I have butted heads with? Yep. But that’s always been a difference of sincerely held opinions. And we do have an “ignore” option here. If a real troll or spammer or perv shows up, the MFP staff does eventually (in a few hours usually) deal with it.
I will be honest and say that I didn’t think I would miss my newsfeed - but I do.
It was a space where I was in complete control of who got to see what I wanted to share. It was easy to use, too. That’s not the case here.
I would really like it if MFP could find some way to replicate what we had with the newsfeed. Some place that is easy to navigate to, and is, essentially, invite only (friends list)

OH MY GOODNESS. I just tried to turn off my auto renewal for my account and it went to the dreaded strawberry thing. Apparently I am now going to have to spend a bunch of email time trying to get tech support to discontinue premium. How appropriate.6
