Forgot to update here, but 5k on Friday night went ok. My time was about 3:30 slower than my last 5k, but it was very hilly and I ended up doing more walking than running because of it. I was very underprepared to even participate to begin with lol. But I finished and that’s what I’m most proud of!

Sunday - a 5mile run and feeling pretty decent after a day off yesterday. That makes ovr 700 for the year now running which is behind about 30 from last year but should still make run the year with all my deliberate walking and running miles.
I am glad that I persisted on using the Mizuno shoes and found the 3rd try (1 complete size up) was the charm. They are quite different than others I have and feel really good as far as helping me push off correctly. And to the point when I put on a different pair after wearing them I felt like i had "deflated" my ride. So all good. And no more blisters. Also a side by side compare of fitbit analysis vs Apple watch. GPS on the fitbit is definitely off.4 -
@VO2Maxlet wrote: »@AlphaHowls how are the Mizus? I've been expanding to new shoe territory. Hokas are okay. Asics are always my go to. OnCloud are the best for the first 10-30 miles and then I feel like they're worse than my oldest pair.

Love your haul for Father's Day @tarun_yadavA . Good run and sounds like a nice, relaxing rest of the day.
Congratulations on finishing a hilly 5K @andja87 .
@SummerSkier Great mileage for the year so far! Love the shoe porn. I really like the color palate. Glad you found what works and are loving them.

Great job @andja87!!

Did a run/walk for my Father’s Day 5K. Time was ok - Garmin said 15:36 pace. I like Strava’s pace better!! Am worn out from the heat and humidity. Sprained knee did fine, so I’m happy about that.

England ⚽ game in the evening!
All set.
I know nothing of this soccer-foot thingy but I just started watching season one of "Welcome to Wrexham."
As the townie guy going through chemo can only come up with seeing the team promoted as a reason to beat cancer, I gather the team is an impotant cultural touchstone. I'll continue my research and report back.Looking for some Eurotrash Heavy metal place.
Museums - David Hasselhoff museum!!!!!! Totally going to that.5 -
@daria0919 So glad your knee held up for the 5K. You did great.1
-
@quilteryoyo & @VO2Maxlet thank you both for the encouragement.
Today, I ran/walked 3.25 treadmill miles. Total: 24.15/40 miles. Determined to stay on track with my training plan.6 -
Great treadmill wun @steviebee888 .1
-
@TheMrWobbly ain't no better time to start than today!
@quilteryoyo I keep the lights on for a certain corner of hedge funds. Before this I was on a family office's R&D team for algorithmic trading.
@tarun_yadavA that chocolate haul looks awesome! Never tried those before. How were they?
@daria0919 nice job on the 5K!
@AlphaHowls noted. I'm definitely getting the Asics Superblast 2 to replace the OnCloud Swifties I have perhaps sooner than I expected. They have 140-ish miles on them and they already feel worse than my oldest shoes. I'm amazed how low the mileage is on them, but I was warned. I'll probably try out some Mizunos to cycle out the Asics Superblast 2.
I have too many shoes.
1. OnCloud Swiftrunners (current running shoes)
2. Hoka Speedgoats (trail runners)
3. Asic Kayano 27s Tokyo Sunrise (my favorite running shoe)
4. Ecco BioM Trainer Sneaker (used to be my favorite running shoe)
@steviebee888 let's get it!5 -
Easy run today. It was supposed to be 30 minutes. But I ended up running 25 minutes. My body died from the humidity/heat. The sun hits me; I cook. Ended up getting a blister on my left pinkie toe.
I need to practice running more in this weather. I used to be a night runner so the heat wouldn't attack me as bad.
95°F (35°C) 65% humidity. Kill me.
After my run, I walked to the farmer's market. Window shopping was fun. I had a great chat with a chap working for our state representatives. Walking out of the market, an old missionary approached me asking "hey 'bub. Do you know who runs the world?" while flashing a pamphlet asking the same question with a picture of the cross in the background. I put my right hand to my heart, and told the old man "me". We both chuckled and parted ways.4 -
Neighborhood 1Mile (at 12"27 pace). streak day 47
I did my 3rd "June Sunday two-a-day plan," I also ran 2.02 miles this morning down at Mission Bay. Two mile under 24:00 mins, good!

Morning all
Got in 7.00M at 09"50.
900 up for 2024.
@VO2Maxlet chocs were good, thank you!
@chris_in_cal haha. Thanks. The Hoff is big in Germany. I shall pay my respects! Lol.
PS: well done on going the extra mile. Literally5 -
@VO2Maxlet You did great in the heat and humidity. It makes such a difference.
Keep up the good work @chris_in_cal . You are doing great.
Nice run and mileage so far @tarun_yadavA .0 -
Great job on your races @daria0919 and @andja87!
@tarun_yadavA It figures THAT would be the museum you would choose to see! Good choice on the chocolates from your family. That's my favorite brand. Good stuff.
I went on an easy 6km this morning, with a few sprints to get ready for tomorrow. My right knee has been hurting a bit. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious. I guess we'll see after my 5K race tomorrow evening. At the moment there are thunderstorms forecast for tomorrow afternoon/evening. Fingers crossed that everything works out in the favor of no thunderstorms during the race!
117.5/200km for June.6 -

@tarun_yadavA - love the label on the chocolate: “Chocolate Love A-Fair” 😂
@SummerSkier - nice Mizunos, great colors!
I absolutely don’t trust the Fitbit. I used to wear mine daily - it far over exaggerates steps and distance. I used to wear my Garmin for walks/runs only, but now I wear it daily and retired the Fitbit for that reason. Don’t wear the Garmin to sleep anymore though- too annoying.
Awesome miles thus far this month @AlphaHowls and @SummerSkier!
Great running streak and mileage increase @chris_in_cal!
@VO2Maxlet - there are a few “math/stats number nerds” in this group - guess we should add you to the mix 😉
Thanks @shanaber and @quilteryoyo for the Medicare input. I think I now have a good reference for an insurance broker to help me through the enrollment process.
Good luck with your 5K @Laurz9191! Here’s hoping the thunderstorms hold off.
Good to “see you” here @TheMrWobbly!5 -

I did a treadmill run this morning. I will go outside tomorrow for a long run so I figured I would make it harder than it needs to be today. I have noticed my recovery is much slower following an outdoor run in these conditions.
We are getting some rain this week and I'm on board. Especially if I can get rain in the morning during my runs. I'll take wet over mega hot any day.4 -
@Laurz9191 I hope your knee is okay and the thunderstorms stay away from your race tomorrow evening!
Nice run @emptydog . Is it the misery you are being satisfied with, or the fact that you got it done and the misery is over?
Great job doing a harder TM workout today @martaindale . I hope you get to run in the rain tomorrow.1 -

I went to the gym early this morning. It was a pretty good workout, but when I set the deadlift bar down for the last time and stood back up, I got a catch in my back. I was able to finish my workout with no pain, but if I step wrong or when I stand up from sitting, it tries to catch again.
After I got home, I rested about an hour and then got up to do a treadmill workout. I was going to just walk if my back hurt, but turns out it was fine during the walk/run. It's one of those things where I'm worried it is going to hurt with every step, but it only does every once in a while.
Anyway, I walked half a mile for warm up and then did a run/walk of 2/1 min at 4.5-5.2/4.0 mph, then 1/1 min at 4.5, 4.6/4.0 mph and finished out at 4.7 mph. Then I did a cool down walk for 0.75 miles. Avg pace for the run/walk was 13:15 min/mile. Avg HR was 137 with a max of 152 bpm. Pretty close to the effort I've been putting in on the driveway, heartbeat wise anyway.

75.55/125 miles completed for June
I didn't run the last 2 days. We had a great family reunion. All of my mom's grandkids were there. We had a gender reveal (boy) and a pregnancy reveal. We celebrated my mom's 80th birthday. It is a couple of weeks early, but since we were all there the grandkids gave her a photo collage they had worked on and we had cake. My sisters and I are having a surprise get together on her actual birthday. She'll really be surprised since she thinks we already celebrated. We didn't have any fights, and though there were a few who had a little more to drink than they needed, no one got out of hand.
I didn't try to run yesterday since my kids were here, so I did my long run today. I didn't get up as early as I should have so it was already 79°F when I headed out. I decided that I would only do 8 miles because it was just so hot and I was feeling a little dehydrated. I did carry water with me, but I needed more. When I got home I grabbed a Gatorade and since I had my watch paused but not stopped I decided to go back out and get 2 more miles. The Gatorade helped and other than running into 20 mph winds at 85°F, the last 2 miles weren't too bad and I was able to get in 10 miles.

@SummerSkier those look sick! Color is everything. I'm a firm believer that black shoes are equivalent to 5 pound ankle sandbags. The lighter the color, the faster you go.
@daria0919 I used to be the same with my garmin. My hand would go numb, I would wake up in the middle of the night, literally throw it at the door, and go back to sleep. Now I just notch it down two buttons and let it hang loose. I sleep on the wall side, so there's a lot of "dents" in the wall from me slamming my wrist when I turn. At least I think those are what they are from. The watch itself is fine, the wall not so much.
I'm about to graduate from the Garmin Half-Marathon training plan and currently planning out the Marathon training plan. Runalyze says I need to ramp up my weekly mileage to 45 miles for a grand total of 180 miles a month. This is gonna be difficult considering I do 40 miles a month average.
Current marathon shape: 10%
Current prognosis is a 5:07:24 finish time
Potential is a 3:34:16 finish time which is close to my realistically desired time of 8:33:33 min/mile

Neighborhood 1Mile (at 12"37 pace). streak day 48
It was nice to run as the day was cooling. I sat at my computer for nearly 12 hours today, while working.
I don't think that's working for me. My little dodad has a setting where it will buzz once an hour to remind me to get up and move around. Sounds like a thing for me.7 -
