How About We Don't Delete Newsfeeds

This is the worst idea ever. I think they need to remove the word pal. I sure don’t have any at all anymore. I’ve rarely logged in now. What a shame to ruin an entire app is how I feel and it seems I am not alone. I’m out there are other apps4

I wish they would have tagged them as merged for transparency.2 -

All threads have been merged in tech support and then in ideas so we can keep track of the feedback easier.0 -
So sad that we have lost the ability to interact with on here. I have almost a 4000 streak. I feel interacting with others has been key to being able to stick with it!! MFP NEEDS TO BRING BACK THE NEWS FEED!! Sadly if it doesn't return i too will probably be leaving 😕3

If MFP wants to keep track of feedback, they need to send an email to all registered users. Not put a post up in the announcement section of the forum and call it good. Many people had no idea this change was coming and were completely blindsided. Those who never used the forums at all are still just figuring it out now or assuming something is broken.

@KareninCanada - I agree with your sentiment.
@Nova - if MFP is merging threads to keep track of feedback… I’m interested in what they will do with it. I’ve been a part of MFP for over a decade.. I’ve never seen this much feedback about a portion of the platform. It will be interesting to see what is done with all this feedback.3 -

@Betty @Nova
This is a good point.5 -
As someone who is working in app creation/tech. and has been on this app for almost 10 years, I can say MFP's quality and diversification is going downhill/getting weaker 😞 Their product offering is becoming steadily more basic with fewer differentiated features from competitors.
I am extremely disappointed in MFP for getting rid of the newsfeed and think they will lose more users than they gain in the long run with such poor decisions.12 -
Well, not much reason to keep an account here anymore.4

Hi y’all, Wanted to first acknowledge that saying good bye to any feature is hard, and I too am sad to see the Newsfeed ride off into the sunset. I do feel strongly that social interaction is important for a lot of folks on what can often be a lonely and difficult journey and having friends cheering you on can make a difference.
I’ll be transparent that the Newsfeed was one of our oldest features that had many flaws and was no longer sustainable to support. While it was not used by many we understand that it’s a real loss for those who used it.
While it is not perfect, due to some limitations like no friend or follow features in the Community, our team enabled the Community Activity Feed on profiles within the community as it was an existing feature available from our forum providers. Some of you may even remember seeing it briefly back in 2021 when we updated the Community.
The community profiles only have two options Public or Private, and the Private option makes the Activity Feed unviewable by others. The next best alternative to utilizing the Activity Feed would be to create a Private Group to invite your friends to and interact with them there.
I know these options don’t “replace” the Newsfeed by any means, but we hope they help give some members some options to interact with others outside of topic driven discussions.
This is a load of BS.
The Newsfeed was the 2nd most important part of this app behind the food diary.
Underarmor has screwed this App over the years since buying it out.
How about selling it to another company that actually cares and doesn't continue to jam more and more features behind a ridiculous $80/year pay wall

Hi @springlering62 Thanks for the tag and questions. We'll work on getting an informational post up. I'll do my best to answer some of your questions here.
First off the Friend's List is not impacted by Newsfeed going away. You can still add friends, as you do need to friend someone to send them a Private Message. From the Friends List you can still click on your friend's profile and find the Diary icon to access their Diary if diary sharing is enabled.
As I mentioned, I know some of the community options aren't super ideal as a Newsfeed stand in and I think there will be growing pains and learnings as y'all find what works best for you and your friend groups.
Private Messages are still very much an option for one on one communication, and Private groups are a way to communicate with a curated group of people. But yes, not everyone may want to join a group.
I'm reading all of your feedback and passing it along to the team. We'll continue to research and explore other options for the future that better support different social interaction needs.
What's the purpose of a friends list without the newsfeed.
So stupid7 -

Underarmour sold MFP to Francisco Partners in 2020, at a loss. Getting rid of the newsfeed has happened on Francisco Partners' watch.
I agree that this was a terrible decision for the user base. Negative feedback is appropriate, but I don't think it's great to criticize worker-bee MFP staff for decisions they didn't make, decisions which probably made their work life worse, too.4 -
Just piling on to add my voice to the record - this was a truly terrible and ill conceived idea. Community is often the basis that drives people to succeed, and celebrating little wins and victories can enable people to do so much more. They've gotten rid of an incredibly positive community, and it's very frustrating.2

well now that the IT resources are freed up from having to deal with that awful and unused newsfeed, perhaps there will some wonderful fun new feature which only friends can share in. Maybe something which posts log in streaks and weight loss milestones, and diary closings and exercise posts? I think something like that would be really helpful and well used by the MFP users.12
-
This app/site is so bland now. Definitely miss the interactions with friends and daily updates.9
-
Not much left here Brian @1ns1d3_0u70

The newsfeed is what kept us coming back to check in with our friends. I've logged in maybe 3 times since this change has been made. Not tracking due to pregnancy, but when I return to tracking will likely seek out a different platform since you got rid of the only thing that really set you apart. Dumb decision.2

Probably 1000's by now have moved to Lose it @KimberlinaB3

A chunk have gone to MyNetDiary too.3

It's a bummer. I don't usually lose sleep when apps change, as they all do. But removing a social feature -- really the only app with one -- seems like a bone-headed move. I, my daughter (researching other apps now), sister and niece will all move on now; it's reduced to just being a tracker, and a fairly pricey one at that.
We really used the friend feed for motivation and accountability. Various streaks used to matter, now they don't.
Oh well. A bummer.5 -

My Net Diary has a social feed. And groups.
There’s a bunch of us over there.
In my opinion the tracking ability is superior too.

Are we entirely sure Francisco Partners isn't a Google subsidiary ;-). It feels like the way they just ditched the Newsfeed is pretty similar to the way Google has been destroying Fitbit, without regard for user wishes. Fitbit is a monochrome weird place now ...2 -
Yes - a bunch of us have become part of a group in MyNetDiary @TravelingGuru - so do join us and bring your family!!
MyNetDiary is GREAT!! And the food scanner is a part of the free membership. And NO obnoxious ads!!4 -
Their response to my cancellation email was interesting, if a bit tone-deaf: (added emphasis mine)Thank you for your feedback on the replacement of our Newsfeed feature. We wanted to let you know that we absolutely hear you. We love our passionate, deeply engaged users, and we’re truly sorry if you were surprised or disappointed by this decision.
We know how important community is to our members, and how valuable those connections are to your success. There are still a number of ways for you to get the motivation and support you need from your MyFitnessPal community:
• Stay connected with the people who matter most to you by creating your own groups within our Community so you can share wins, updates, and progress in a private setting.
• Send private messages to your MyFitnessPal friends.
• Share your diary with your connections for motivation and accountability.
• Stay tuned in to the activity feed and keep tabs on your community notifications to stay updated on recent activity.
Just seems, as I mentioned, a bit tone-deaf. Like they know community and engagement is important, but, well... we're deleting that.
Just me.

That was awful when they got rid of the challenges on Fitbit. I dumped my Fitbit when it died finally, and switched to a different tracker. Think it over tracked anyways.1 -

Couldn't agree more!
My Sense is still going, and I also have a backup Charge that I got the summer before the dumped the challenges. Not getting a Fitbit next go, tho.

As someone who hasn't missed a login in close to 10 years. I have left with about 25 OG friends to Lose It app. I still log into my Ghost account here just in case MFP brings back the BEST feature which really kept friends together. This was probably the worst move by any app that I have ever seen. It's unfortunately a deal breaker for me.Lose it has free barcode scanner and lifetime premium for $75...On top of that the app isn't buggy at all. So MFP will have to deal with many ghost accounts with people who just hit the button daily to keep a streak...Incredibly Disappointing MFP!6
