As far as struggling with running mojo, maybe you need another marathon to train for – that would take up at least a week based on the "Tarun Training Model"!
@tarun_yadavA you'll never live that down 😁😂🤣
😳😳😳😳😳🤣😆🤣😆🤣
OK thank you all. Just spit up my coffee...3 -
Too funny @Teresa502!! @Scott6255 and @SummerSkier @tarun_yadavA must have been before my time, but please do share….3
-
Hahaha @daria0919 . I don't think you need the answer key. I'm pretty sure you can ace it without cheating. Thanks for the compliment. Any special plans for your birthday next month?
Your comment about @tarun_yadavA made me literally laugh out loud @Teresa502 ! Thanks for the comments on the pictures and my birthday. I have not run that race. Have you? It would probably be a fun and pretty one.

13.41/60.00 goal
I got up early enough to go to they gym before starting work at 9:30. Today was state assessment. We passed with 95/100. That's good because most of what we got counted off for was that not half of the teachers have a college degree. Sort of an unrealistic expectation for a daycare. Most people who have degrees get jobs with the public school system where they can make more money and get many more benefits.
After I got home, I did a treadmill session. I walked 0.5 miles for warm up and 0.75 miles for cool down. I ran 1.25 miles in 16:28 min for an avg pace of 13:10 min/mile. I ran 2 min each at 4.2 - 4.9 mph, then finished up at 5.0 mph. No walk breaks.
And, I heard the results of the echocardiogram today. Everything looks normal and my heart function is 60%, which sounds horrible, but it's actually about in the middle of the normal range.7 -
Paid for my two speedy “unproductive” runs with a slower 5k on the struggle bus this morning. Nearly threw the towel in more than once. Garmin says I’m maintaining and gave me back a VO2 max point 😂🤪8
-
Well, there you go @ContraryMaryMary . Garmin must not want you to have fun. Sorry today was a struggle. Congrats for hanging in there and getting it done.2

Ran/walked 3 easy miles on the treadmill this evening. Total of 9 miles for August. This month, I'm going to incorporate some hip strengthening exercises as well as doing more stretching. I am really trying to keep my entire body health this go-around. Back in the day, I would just run and totally would not stretch nor do strength training. Not this time! I have a new game plan.

@quilteryoyo happy belated birthday!7 -

August 4: 4.5 miles for 8.7 miles total
August 7: 4.9 miles for 13.6 miles total

Sounds like you have a great game plan @steviebee888 .
Welcome @NickiBear81 . Great plan. You've found a very motivating group.
Thanks @noblsheep ! Glad to see you posting again. You sound like me. I look like that all the time.
Wow @henridw2095 . That sounds like some wind. Great running.4 -

@tarun_yadavA Sorry to hear you're struggling with motivation. I know there was a bit of a discussion around this on Strava as well. Your consistency is notable and praiseworthy. But, sometimes it also leads to burnout. I went through a period of burnout at the beginning of this year. And Scott has gone through a similar thing recently too. Sometimes, if motivation is waning, just mixing it up helps. You tend to do the same couple runs at basically the same pace all the time. Consider looking around online for a training program that's different from what you're currently doing. That could be a 10K plan, which will give you some speed work and variability in the types of runs you're doing. I did that one year and it was a nice bridge during "off-season".
It might also be worth considering that maybe your body is just tired. You don't tend to take rest days very often. Some people don't need that many but the cumulative fatigue of running everyday or almost everyday can take its toll. It's amazing the difference a good night's sleep and a day off can make.8 -
Aug total: 17.8/113 miles
YTD: 580.3/1200 miles
8/3: 8.1 miles
8/4: 2.8 miles
8/5: 3.9 miles
8/7: 3 miles
Early morning pre-work 3 miles today. It was a slog of a morning. It was 80° before the sun came up and incredibly humid. I ended up taking three walk breaks just to get my heart rate down to something reasonable. It was honestly difficult to breathe in those conditions. Got it done though.
I went to Pilates yesterday afternoon and while I'm not sore yet, my shoulders were getting tired just from washing my hair this morning. I predict it will be hard to raise my arms tomorrow. Eventually I'll learn my lesson. I've done this several times where I stay consistent with Pilates for a month or two and then fall off and have to start over again. Every time I do it I say I'm going to stick with it this time but it's the first thing I drop when life gets busy. Starting over is rough!!4 -
Afternoon everyone!
Got in 7.56M at 10"13.
Getting lazier with writing about runs too... 'Morning everyone' has now become 'Afternoon all'.
@Teresa502 @Scott6255 @SummerSkier Ha Ha!
@daria0919 I decided to go and run a marathon last year - 4 weeks training and went and did it.
It wasn't one week. 🙈🤣
@martaindale thanks Sarah.
It's just motivational I think. Not sure it's running specific .I had a few bad nights sleep last week, and I think it's just rolled over. Though I slept for like 9 hours yesterday, got up late, but just feel schedule is a little off kilter.
Before each run, I do a few on the floor Bridging exercises, then (on a good day) upto 30 pushups. Get the heart pumping before warming up and going for a run. These days even the thought of lying on the floor seems an effort. I'll be all in running gear, laces tied, and I'll just find excuses to procrastinate. Facebook scroll. Linkedin scroll. Then when I get on the floor... I kinda just quit at 20 pushups. Half a$$ed warm up and then just jog. First 2 miles seems like such an effort. A chore.
Beats me! 🤷🏽

@quilteryoyo Happy belated birthday! It looks like you had a great time.
Yesterday I got in a 10.3km progressive run, with the last 20 minutes at a faster pace. Today I got in a 10.3km run with 10x 1 minute farleks at ca. 5km race pace. Both runs were really nice. The only disturbing thing on my run today was running past a drunk at the beginning of the run who couldn't even stand enough to get his bike upright and then running past him again laying in the grass next to the road still with his bike an hour and ca. 50 meters down the road later.....
31.8/270km for August.
@Laurz9191 wasn't in Hanover. Not me. 🤣2 -
Hi everyone!
No drunks to report of on my run today , just an easy 10.6km. @tarun_yadavA Glad to know it wasn’t you stumbling around at 8:15 on a workday morning! Legs are feeling the effects of my vacation with its decrease in mileage, but other than that, training is going pretty well. I have the “choice” between hill repeats or 1km repeats tomorrow. So far, I’m leaning towards the hill repeats because they are shorter. I’ll see how I feel about it tomorrow!
42.4/270km for August.
P.S. @tarun_yadavA Totally agree with @martaindale. Just switching up paces, small changes in routes, allowing yourself to go slower/faster, shorter/longer according to what your body is telling you might help to keep motivation relatively high (and signing up for races doesn’t hurt). However, I do think a certain fluctuation in higher/lower motivation is quite the norm.4 -
Thanks @Teresa502 . Great run this morning.
Great run in those conditions @martaindale . I hope your arms don't get too sore.
@tarun_yadavA I hope you get it figured out. In the meantime, you continue to get out there and slog along. I think you should be commended for that.
Nice running @Laurz9191 . I had to giggle at your comment because I often do hill repeats simply because they are short bursts of hard effort usually followed by longer easy effort.2 -
01.08 4.0km 33min 8:11/km - slow
02.08 6.1km 50min 8:15/km - slow
03.08 strength
04.08 5.5km 45min 8:07/km - faster
05.08 5.0km 39min 7:49/km - fast
07.08 6.1km 50min 8:16/km - slow, 10min faster
total 26.65km
Done. I can't say I feel good now, but I ran for 50 minutes. Actually, I feel totally not good, but I can't quite decide what 'not good' means. Just not well. Doesn't matter. I'll be fine a bit later on.5 -

7 Aug - Walked 2.50 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Mowed 1h30m12s
15.91/60.00 goal
I push mowed my lawn this morning before it got too hot. I also did the weed eating and blew the stuff off the porches and driveway with the leaf blower. I had to take one break. My energy is still low, even though I am feeling better from the sinus issues. (Still some drainage and coughing, but getting better.)
After I finished, I did a treadmill wun. I walked at 3.8 mph until I got really bored and then ran 1 min or so at 5.0 mph, then repeated. Avg pace turned out to be 14:51 min/mile. Avg HR was 106 with a max of 130 bpm.4 -
@tarun_yadavA – Our planned excursion in Napoli is only 4 hours and we’re in port for 12 so yes, any recommendations would be wonderful! Feel free to drop any recommendations in an email so that we don’t bore the rest of our running community!

Hi All - did not make my goal in July and I am not setting one for August. I am not able to run, have no real hope to be able to run. I am not even really able to get out for a walk. So I am sad after all these years to drop out of this group. I will drop in occasionally to see what everyone is up to but I won't be commenting to everyone or posting (aka @polskagirl01) .
Thank you all for all the help and guidance and fun over the years. It has been a great pleasure to be here with you all11 -
@shanaber I wish you the best with recovery and hope we see you back here someday. At a minimum you have to give us a handsome Hobbes post from time to time!4

August Goal: 130 Miles
8/1: 3.53 miles
8/2: 6.05 miles
8/4: 13.16 miles
8/5: 3.13 miles
8/6: 6.02 miles
8/7: 6.05 miles
37.94/130 miles completed for August
It was still 81° F this morning when I started out. The first two miles were really tough and I just wasn't feeling it, but then it seemed to cool off a little bit. Strava said it was 81° at the start and 79° at the end. It really did feel better as I went along. By the end of the run I was feeling pretty good, but I am still ready for some cooler (just not cold) weather. I ran 6 miles and had negative splits. I saw a skunk crossing the street. I was a little worried he was going to get hit by a pickup truck, but luckily the guy saw him and slowed down. I also saw some kids out getting ready for the first day of school.
In today's non running news. I went to the post office at lunch time and there was a news crew there and they interviewed me about our animal shelter problems. So I may be on the local news this evening.

@shanaber yes HOBBES pictures~ Hope you are able to attend agility with him at least a while longer. It is hard but you have been such a wonderful contributor to all of us over the years. The future is so uncertain and scary and you have been so positive and fighting for a long time. I totally understand you leaving this group. 🥲🥹🥲🥹4
-
@shanaber you will be dearly missed. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers and hoping we’ll still be hearing from you at times. Ditto on hopes you’re still able to enjoy agility classes with your pup. Thank you for all the positive comments and support you’ve shown all of us in this group. ((hugs))5
-
Oh @shanaber, I too will be sad to see you go, and yes, do pop in to say hello and show us doggy pics!
@taran_yadav, listen to @martaindale, she's talking sense. I'm having a *kitten* running couple of days - tired, a bit achy, and serious can't-be-arsededness - so I dropped my 12k to just over 3k and am recharging. I would seriously recommend you take a couple of days off (maybe three or four!!!) get a massage, do some stretching. You may also want to find something to aim for - a new goal or an event - that will hopefully sort out your motivation issues. Best of luck.
Yes, today for me was a bust. I woke tired and with aching legs. 12k on the schedule but chose to just do 20 minutes instead (mostly because I needed to wash my hair so wanted a good excuse for a shower). Work is busy (and I keep procrastinating) and my husband is in Samoa this week (without me! And he has to audacity to moan about the heat while I'm trying to thaw my feet in front of the fire) leaving me solo parenting, which, while it's going great, is still more work.
Whinge over. I have stories to write and more to sub!7
