RE: Osteopenia
Machka -- I assume I will be told the same thing next Friday. Keep walking and hiking, add weight training, which I have already started. Recheck in two years. The DEXA report recommended a repeat scan in two years, so that's why I assume we will follow that advice.
Both of my parents had osteoporosis, so that I have the hint of that now is not at all surprising.
Take care!

Not altogether conscious, but am waking up as I rattle to y'all. I slept for nearly nine hours! Woot!
Finally finished the quilt in both general and specifics and will pack it up today. Realized I never showed y'all the back of it, and then realized I never actually took a picture of the back of it! Here's the finished thing:
I took it in the back bedroom so the bed doesn't overwhelm the quilt. Easier camera angles, too.
I'm sending it with the mistake intact, which will surprise Corey no end. He thinks I'll tear it apart and fix it - the quote being, "Yes, but I know you and you still have the pointy thing that rips out stitches. Put it in the box and send it!" 🥰 He loves me.
Lots of transitions this week, the antibiotics and steroids time is now finished. Time to see if the ship will continue to finish righting itself in terms of my gut health. I'm gaining weight again (mixed blessing), my hair is growing, I'm having to cut my fingernails much more often, and am overall feeling very well. All signals that the nutrition I'm getting in is actually being used by my body instead of just being dumped in my gut and making me ill, with little real absorption.
Got to get another cup of tea in me and get moving... don't know yet if the quilt will fit in a large flat rate box, and if not, I'm going to have to rustle up a box.
Later, babies,

Love it! I would pay you to do one for me, it would have bikes and runners on it of course :0)

Woke up happy for your news Tracey, after a quite unexpected afternoon nap...
PIp - If you do get serious about doing a quilt, let me know on Facebook. We're connected already there - I'm Lisa Hannon. I've absolutely done commissioned quilts in the past. However, just note that I am not, shall we say, inexpensive.

I will talk to kirby. I’ve paid for 2 t-shirt quilts already, one of his t-shirts and a different lady did mine of my t-shirts.
We will connect. I wouldn’t expect it to be cheap.4 -
Yay, Tracey!
I’m taking my brother for hernia surgery tomorrow. I have to pick him up at 4:30 a.m., which means I have to leave home about 3:45. Yikes! He needs it desperately though. His belly button looks like a horn growing out of the middle of his stomach. It’s at least the size of 8-ounce drinking cup.

We have had another wet day here. Quite cool as we haven’t had a break in the clouds all day. Tomorrow should be a little better.
Lisa: I’m sure you’re glad to get that quilt away. It does look lovely though. You inspired me to return to my unfinished crochet project. It’s a gilet made out of grannie squares of different sizes. I have it laid out on my dining room table and am slowly piecing it together.
Collected the new glasses and they are great. Crystal clear once more. They were very very speedy, but worth every penny.

Sleep – I have to keep on the same schedule, weekend or not, if I’m working the next day or not. Usually I get up at 5:30 and I need to keep that schedule even on the evenings preceding days I don’t work. Now Vince doesn’t have to do that.
I love the fact that in this group, you learn so much from other’s experiences
I couldn’t believe the rain AND wind when I came out of work today. There was one point where it was so windy that I couldn’t move. I felt like Jim Cantoni….lol
Made the marinade for the pork chops I’ll get ready tomorrow. Now I’m thinking I’ll make the salsbury steaks for next week and then the rice krispie bars
Lanette – I sure hope you find that necklace. Something like that would drive me absolutely crazy
Tracey – So happy you’re going to get an offer letter soon.
I just got an email saying that I was eligible for student loan forgiveness….lol
Katie – wowzers!
Went for a walk around the neighborhood. Took the umbrella with me. Needed it at first, but then I didn’t. Tomorrow is supposed to be nicer. We shall see….

I’m squandering too much time on mindless iPhone games. Time to set it down, maybe even uninstall a few, in favor of getting up and doing even 5 minutes of PT, or grooming dogs. ;}
MFP not letting me login from laptop yesterday morning, recaptcha verification failing.
Debbie what do you and your mom do with 3x100’ rows of squash?
Lisa wow that quilt! What you said about swirling with gratitude. Amen, sister, amen. Yours to Tracie in WI, truth that.
Margaret conVERYgratulations on getting your BP down. Just another sign that you are on the right track for your body.
Lanette hawkbit, aha! Thanks! We do have some dandelions too, but the hawkbit ?hawkbits? predominate. Funny how the genus name “leontodon” means “lion tooth”, just like dent-de-lion. . . but different genus.
Kay, “deer food garden” made me snort my tea! LOL
Tracie in WI what kind of dog? ;}
Belated welcome @MounjaroMia Mia in the UK!

Moose, the prequelI wasn’t looking for another dog. Wasn’t haunting shelter websites, no midnight petfinder.com rendezvous, honest! BUT, when I saw the post about Moose to our FB dog group page, well something happened. Tracey you are very insightful. I wasn’t sure I wanted Moose, or that Tumble would accept him if I did. I for sure didn’t want to fight with Joe over a dog, ever again. The Dixie story turned out for the better, but it was a painful growing time. The Gino failure just about killed me. When Joe started to backpedal from his initial openness, saying he really didn’t want another dog, but that “You’ll do what you want.” I got that sick-to-my-stomach feeling that I was headed for more grief. Lasted four days.
Poster had bred Moose (“an Australian labradoodle? SMH) and had given him to W to “socialize” before adding to her string of studs. Then Covid hit and W and Moose bonded so breeder let W have him. Earlier this year W had a stroke, can’t walk and is in a care facility. Breeder placed Moose in a foster family. The first potential adoption fell through, due to transportation issues. Then she posted to our dog group’s FB page.
gratitudes:
Thursday: Deep, box breathing finally stopped the retching. An hour and a half is a looong time.
Wednesday: Shadow joined Moose on the bed for a while this morning. Settling in process.
Tuesday: meeting with Moose went miraculously well. Tumble barked, went up to him and sniffed and seemed to recognize him, and quieted down. Shadow still suspicious.
Monday:: stretching and luxuriating in bed, the feeling of the sheets and blankets, and petting Shadow by my side.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Tracey- yehaa on the job front ..Im so very happy for you...
Alfie is over at Toms until tomorrow night or Saterday morning.his stepdaughter is moving in with a couple of dogs for a couple of weeks until her new place is ready.. she has Australian shepards and Tom is worried that Alfie will get hurt.. so .. he wanted alone time with him before the onslaught of the wild beasts lol.
Im going to try and get some sleep..
Tracy measuring at 37 weeks though she is only at 31 ,all is well.. she has 3 appointments next week and then one a week up until the birth.8 -
Katie - Good grief! That sounds so horribly painful. Hope the relief is immediate and a quick recovery.
Barbara AHMOD- An hour and a half of retching? I barely last five minutes and I'm weeping. So glad the box breathing stopped it. I hope Moose is a lovely and peaceful addition. Terrible name for a lovely looking little guy.
Terri - So glad my completion was inspirational. I never know if I'm here to be a bad example or a good one... 😁 Now I'm walking around slapping ideas out of the air... Stop it! Stop it! Take a break! 🐿️😝😂 Doubt it will work, now that my energy levels are rising too. I've unleashed a kraken... 🐙🦑🌊 and it's about to swamp my craft room.
Loving my life, and genuinely reveling in living inside a body that does not feel sick and exhausted. So much joy in that.
Here's to joy,

Tracey Congratulations!
M when I breathe through my mouth at night it adds to me getting dehydrated. I wake up with a scratchy throat. Breathing through your nose also raises your nitric oxide levels in your blood which in term helps with your circulation. I believe part of my cramping problems has to do with circulation. I have good calcium and magnesium level. Vit D is also good now too!5 -

What about your salt levels? If you're really watching your diet, you can sometimes end up with low sodium levels.

Machka - Are you all moved now?
Terri - I agree about us all being there for one another. Aside from my friend that was visiting, DH and Kaitlyn you ladies were the next to know I was getting an offer today.
Annie - I hope the new medications slow your dad’s decline.
Lisa - the backside of the quilt looks like looking out a window to the sky to me.
Beautiful.
We have flat rate boxes here in Canada too, it is the most economical way to send anything these days.
Allie - what a face on Miles. 😂
Lanette - 😂 have you ever watched the episode of Big Bang Theory when Raj starts a deep friendship with the Apple equivalent of Goo-Goo. If you can find it you’ll get a chuckle.
Thank you all so much for being with me this past month’s journey waiting for my job offer. I read through and signed this afternoon, I also went and got my security clearance I needed. I start on Aug 19th, it’s a bit more money than I was expecting, more vacation time than I was expecting and benefits start day one. I’m quite happy tonight.
I’m glad it’s starting after next week because they should give me time to get my table finished. I’m hoping to get a lot of sanding done tomorrow and maybe can start staining on Saturday. I’m really hoping I can pull this off.
I’m nervous as all get out, but decided I can’t make the table any worse than it was.
Katie - I can’t even picture your brother’s hernia, hope the surgery goes well and recovery is swift.
Terri - I had to look up what a “gilet” was, it sounds lovely.
Barbara - it looks like the dogs are all adjusting well to one another.
Well I don’t have much else to say tonight. Thank you all for your best wishes and for bearing with me always.

So, so, happy for you Tracey! Every day I was waking up thinking, 'I hope Tracey gets an offer today!'
Good vacation time is so important. I don't know how people cope in the US with so little vacation. You will be such an asset to any organisation.
Terri - Gilets are the height of fashion now. What will you wear it with? Black trousers? Maxi skirt?
Edie is coming over this afternoon, so I will be 'washing and brushing up' for her. I just love her energy and her presence. I wonder what interesting insights and gossip she will come out with this time! She clearly has missed us so much, and turned down the offer of having a friend over, to come and see us. Bea has a friend to play. Max is sailing, I think. I so love just having one of them at a time.
She will be 11 years old next month.
G persisted in asking if she could come over yesterday, so I had to be firm and say I wasn't feeling sociable. I truly wasn't. I described it as feeling like a snail withdrawing into its shell. A visit from her would mean extricating myself from my sick bed, difficult, exhausting showering and hair drying, laborious, slow and painful dressing, toiletries, makeup, and a quick tidy up. No.
We are seeing each other next Tuesday, after my physio session, so I will already have got all that practical business done, and just have to be in sociable mode. It's wonderful that she was prepared to make the journey to see me, but I just didn't feel like it, especially with Edie coming, and DSIL coming for the weekend. Enough!
She has booked herself a P&O cruise in November to Amsterdam and Hamburg. 7 days. The girl is indefatigable. Just thinking about everything she does exhausts me! And exhausts her!
I am impatient for more progress, but it's happening, if not at the desired pace.
I have John's delicious chicken soup/stew for lunch, (last night's leftovers). With gorgeous, (expensive), artisan sourdough wholemeal bread. Dinner is the last of my big batch of chilli, with roasted butternut squash. Salsa, with avocado, for which John managed to buy some cilantro, and crême fraiche.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Just chilling with my morning cuppa. DH has gone down to do his early online yoga class, so I can concentrate on just relaxing.
Heather: It’s very versatile, pastel blues/greens/turquoise, with some lilac/mauve touches so will go with most of my wardrobe. There’s also a bit of sparkle in some of the yarns.
Edie will cheer you up no end. It’s not surprising that your recovery this time is slower. Although you had made excellent progress, you had barely recovered from the first op. Once the pain has lessened there will be no stopping you 😂
Lisa: There’s only a couple of days work left to do on it, mostly sewing the pieces together, then I can block it. It may acquire sleeves and morph into a cardigan. Depends how it looks.
Tracie: The gilet has been in the making for a while now. Time to get it finished 😂. Whoopee for the job offer. Sounds like a good deal for you. It must be a relief to finally know.
Sleep: I actually wake up earlier than I did when I was working. And I’m a fan of power naps. I have no problem falling asleep day or night.
The weather should be much better today. Still showery, but much warmer already. Planning to work on my crochet, and maybe do some gentle gardening.

Morning, my chickens,
Enjoying my cup of hot tea this morning... while I have a gallon of iced tea brewing in the kitchen. Eight minutes and it will be done and will join the gallon in the fridge. Had some very minor stretches of a few months where I could drink plain water after the gastric bypass in 2005, but mostly I have to adulterate it in order to get enough liquid in. Tea always works... haven't had a cup of coffee in months, though, and I think it's really helping the amount of sleep I get.
Laundry day and want to get a couple of small projects going. 🐿️ I'm sewing up some Halloween trick-or-treat bags for the two little grands, eight and four, and will get those mailed to Kels as soon as I design them and get them sewn together. Picked up some material with a candy corn print on clearance while I was wandering around the craft stores a few weeks ago. 🥰
I also want to make some covers for my sewing machines. I love my cat, but much like Pigpen in the old Peanuts comics, she carries a cloud of dust and dirt and cat hair around with her, and my sewing machines get terribly schmutzy from it. The bags and the covers are my first real foray into three-dimensional pieces - and I want to make a cover for my stand mixer in the kitchen as well. I've got one on it, but I want one that doesn't look like a schlumpy old ghost on the counter! 😂
Trying not to add anything else to the list, but I do have a lot of things coming in that I plan to sell in a Christmas craft fair around the November time frame, and a few Christmas ornaments to put together and sell. Plus there are things I want to make in the interim breaks from my home projects - some gift potholders and other things that sew up quickly and make great gifts for the fair-goers. And I'm crocheting hairbands, as well.
The idea flood is just sooooo huge right now, so I need to take advantage and see what I can do. I need some small projects, easily finishable in a few days, if not a few hours...
Off to the races, kids,
Things to make,
Laundry to do,
Dishes to wash,
Life is good... and busy!
Love,
Lisa in AR

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Tracey Yay! Happy dance! Woo hoo! Celebration time!
Lanette hope your necklace turns up.
Barbara congratulations on Moose joining you!
Lisa I'm so glad for your comment about not feeling sick and exhausted. It's so hard to go through that, and so wonderful to come out the other side. Yay for you and everyone who is recovering!
Dad has his class today and I was supposed to go to the DMV (department of motor vehicles) but it's raining pretty hard from that tropical storm. Maybe I will buy my flight to Las Vegas from home instead. I am reluctant to buy it because I'm afraid something will happen to my dad and the trip will get cancelled. But putting it off is not a good answer. I just need insurance.
Have a great day, even if it is pouring rain! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Just a quick drop in to record something, more to push it into my memory than anything.
This was breakfast for me this morning:
Let me rephrase that - this was the last half of my breakfast this morning. I actually made myself both halves of an toasted English muffin and two over-medium eggs.
And when I got through one egg and half the muffin (OK, + one bite of the second half! 😂) I realized I'd had enough.
I haven't readjusted the amount of food I make for myself to the recent changes. I'm gaining weight because I'm still eating for that time period where I had to get in 3000+ calories a day just so I didn't starve. My body is dealing with nutrition very differently now, but I hadn't changed my way of cooking or of eating, thus the recent weight gain.
I absolutely despise wasting food; it is a really big thing from my childhood. Leftovers in my house are either eaten or frozen... but I threw these away very deliberately. It's time to start making food for the way my body is working now, instead of the way that it was.
Back to thinking about what I eat again, and just as important, what I make myself to eat!
Later, babies,
Love,
Lisa in AR

M I get enough salt. I get plenty from the cheese, sauerkraut, occasional pickle, and occasional light salting of my food I do not do salt every time I eat I add ground pepper and herbs to give food flavor. If anything in the American diet we get way too much salt in our diets. Salt is heavily used to preserve processed food here. I do go out to eat with friends at least once a week. Even though I watch what I order I know the food has salt. I am even more sensitive to the taste of salt now because I have cut back adding salt. I ordered some baked chicken wings at a restaurant and couldn't eat them because they were too salty.
Since taping and breathe strips again no cramps and no bathroom in the middle of the night. In the book Breathe the author discussed how the Native Americans made it a point to teach their children to nasal breathe. Yes they had a different diet than we do too, but it was observed how healthy their bodies, how strong and healthy their teeth were too. He cited nasal breathing as a contributing factor to their health.
I do believe I am on the right course with my diet and lifestyle. A friend the same age as me got the same illness I had a few weeks ago. I was better within two days with some mild fatigue for another couple of days. She was sick for two weeks.
I do believe getting your gut healthier is the way to get yourself healthier. There is as much info and conflicting info in the alternative medicine world as in the conventional. I listen to what they have to say and then try to implement the ideas that I believe work for me. Getting and staying healthy is a marathon not a sprint.
Goal for the day is to not sit for long periods even though I am quite active during the times I am not sitting.4 -
What have I been doing recently?
The last week or so of July was very busy and utterly exhausting including:
- My job. Got a quarterly report finished. Put in a 5-day week at the office which I haven’t done in ages. Attended meetings.
- Brain Injury Association of Tasmania in person meeting.
- COVID vaccination … which tired us both out. I also had a painful gland reaction.
- The Move. Lots of work every weekend in July, again on the last day of July removing things from the basement/garage (some to the tip, some to storage, some to the house). Cleaned the house to a certain level but was really sore and tired from the COVID vax. Then had professional house cleaners come in to finish the work.
- New House. Had a new power point put into my office. Unpacking.
Then August arrived.
The rest of the story ...Coast to Coast
https://machka.net/2024/08/09/coast-to-coast/
Yes, I will add more photos to that story over the next week or two.
@kevrit - that's my website above. Go to machka.net for home page.
And no, we have not completed the move yet ... the August distraction told in the story in the spoiler kind of got in the way.
Machka in Oz9 -
Good morning ladies!
Tracey - what great, great news. Salary and bennies and all. Are you anxious to get in there and get going? Good you have a week to get the table finished and projects wrapped up. I remember that Big Bang episode where Raj falls in love with with the gal on his phone (and even visits her!) It was one of my favorites.
Kay - wow, that was some hernia. Will your brother be able to go home today pending complications? Sending healing thoughts his way, it will be so good to have it taken care of. I might have to sign up for Netflix for a month if the Thursday Murder Club is as good as the books.
Heather - have a great time with Edie. I'd love to taste that artisan wholegrain sourdough bread.
Lisa - good looking breakfast, I am thrilled that your digestion is back on an even keel. And your brain swirling with projects! You gave me an idea - I need to start visiting craft fairs to see what folks are doing - get some inspiration to keep myself occupied this fall/winter.
Barbara - have your hawkbit(s) gone to seed yet? I haven't noticed any bees/pollinators on them like they are on the early spring dandelions but maybe there's other flowers in the area the bees like better right now. Nice that Moose is fitting in with the family. You and Joe have such generous hearts for critters.
Rosemarie - I think of you when I do my early morning stretches - it's not yoga per se but there's something about getting my back unkinked and calf & hamstring muscles stretched out a bit that makes me feel so much better. Just 10 minutes makes all the difference.
Margaret - I love reading about your health journey. Thank you for the tips you are sharing with us. I'm like you - don't add salt to food but I know I get plenty from Sauerkraut and other things. Nearly all restaurant food is too salty for me too, so I try to stick with salads when meeting friends.
Heading to the feet store in a bit. It's always fun to smell the hay and see what the farmers are picking up.
