My project set out on the dining room table. I did have to adjust the design as it was going to be too long. Can’t believe the difference my new glasses have made to sewing it up. I’m about half done now.
Kylia: What a lovely break you had. Love the lake. Well done in the car show.

Went for my wound check and bandage removal. The nurse said it was "Excellent healing!"
Picture in spoiler if you don't like wounds. Feeling very relieved. After a good night's sleep my hips are hurting a lot less.
Both ways the Uber drivers were excellent. Chatty, helpful, etc. Opening the door, holding my crutch. The last couple of Ubers I've taken recently were miserable. Chalk and cheese.
Now for a nap. Hot day here, but not unbearable. We always get a slightly lower temperature here because of the sea.

Back to work today. Just a two hour all campus meeting, which includes breakfast, so easing in. I have enjoyed my month off
Son had fun driving yesterday. He drove around, then decided to drive to his sister's. She was working, but her partner was home, so the two of them hung out, playing board games. He likes being a driver!
He and I have another campus visit on Thursday. He will start applying this week and hopes to have a decision made by November.
Take care all.

Annie This is what we bought for our Subaru when we drove it so infrequently. The guy from AAA recommended it when he came to jump start the battery. We bought it at an auto parts store
We have one of those on our RV. Amazon has them too. RV sat for 5 years and the battery started it after all that time when we had to move! I was shocked! The tender kept it going.

Our neighbor picked Jake up at 7 this morning to drive him to his 9 AM doctor appointment. We all got up at 5 and Annie and I had started our morning walk by the time Jake left. He should be home by 11.
Barbara,, thanks for posting a picture of your three dogs. They are beautiful.
Heather, How great to hear of the progress in your healing.
Katie, I loved reading the Thursday Murder Club books. We don't get Netflix so I won't be watching the TV series. I am often not happy with a TV version of something I've read. Reading gives me a personal vision of the faces and mannerisms of characters in books so I am often disappointed in someone else's vision.
Annie, I understand your father's reluctance to sell his car. Jake hadn't played golf for about ten years before he was emotionally able to pass his golf clubs on to someone else.
Terri, I love your project, especially the colors.

Dinner yesterday was grilled salmon topped with something DH dreamt up! Tricolor Mac salad with DH’s oil dressing and I added radishes as it needed more. Had an orange for desert. Supper was the left over Mac salad.

Well, yesterday I planned to drop off my Dad's car for an oil change, and then go out to lunch next door, but the car wouldn't start. Okay so I cancelled the oil change and called a tow truck/ battery service. The guy came and jumped the battery from a device for 75$. Then I let it run for half an hour to charge it up.
Then this morning I was going to do the weekly drive, and it won't start. Fooey. So I'm doing the only logical thing which is to have a cup of tea and recharge myself first.
The bottom line is that car needs to be sold. But my dad isn't ready to give it up. The battery guy said I need to let it run for thirty minutes twice a week. That's too much time to spend. It may be time to do something against my Dad's wishes. So then either I could tell him outright or deceive him. Hmm. He doesn't accept that he can't drive anymore. He thinks he ought to keep the car in case he needs to go somewhere.
I have another oil change appointment on Wednesday at 11. There's no point in getting it jumped on a Sunday. Maybe Monday I will call, and have them come on Wednesday morning. I wonder if they would replace the battery for us.
Meanwhile I will consult my sister about selling the goshdarn car. I would either need my dad to sign, or invoke the power of attorney, to sell it. Hmm.
Oh well. No police, no hospital, so it's not a bad day, just a challenge. We are warm and dry and fed, and counting our blessings.
Thanks for hearing me out. Good friends and a cup of tea take the sting out of these situations.
Have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

MFP Weekly Check-In August 12, 2024
Rita in Roswell, NM- Down 1.2 ponds this week from 174.8 last week. Started at 186 and now, starting week 10. 13 pounds in all thus far. Happy dance!!
Kylia in Ohio - Kitties took over my life! No weigh ins in July. Started August up 2 lbs. After a weekend of travel (and not enough water yesterday) I am up another 2! Time to get my butt in GEAR! Too close to the number I fought hard to get south of! 128.6 this morning.
Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast -WT yesterday down 2.5 lbs from last Sunday, whew!
BB&B, line dance and Zumba consistent, steps fell off, PT not at all. Sugar, CI<CO and AF better.
Eveyln on Vancouver Island - Cloudy and cool here, at least I think it’s cloud, could be smoke. Down .4 of a pound since this time last month, really a miracle as my eating has not been good and I was sidelined for two weeks as Covid finally caught up with me. Back to the gym today, tho and walked with a friend yesterday morning.
Lanette SW WA State – weight stable for the past few weeks, might be approaching set point. Spending more time on sitting elliptical, reducing walking so feet doing better.

Kylia ~ Your sister has beautiful scenery to view. Congrats on her MBA achievement. Sounds like a lot of driving but I'm know that getting away did you a lot of good.
Barbara ~ The 3 pooches are just as cute as can be. So glad that Moosey is adjusting to well to the family.
I don't have much to add but just want everyone to know that I have good thoughts for all of you.

Back up after my latest nap... Corey will be calling soon to say he's on the way home from work - one of the three calls that structure my weekdays, good morning, what's for dinner, and I'm on my way home. It's a weird routine, but it's ours. 👀😁🥰
My niece called me in raptures over the quilt, and I'm so pleased that it's done and safely in her hands! My daughter's next up on the quilt design and build list, and I told her it would take me a year before I could even think about it... In the meantime, we'll trade ideas for designs we like.
Oh - and I met a couple of absolutely wonderful women in Hobby Lobby while I was wandering around the quilt fabrics. Even exchanged phone numbers with them, and hope to get to know them better. They live up in Mountainburg, just a half hour from me, and it was just a really pleasant interaction, one of my first in years where I put myself out to help someone. Great lift to my day.
Organ recital (blood test results). TL;DR - Almost all great, and the ones that were off weren't very off. Pleased with all of it, honestly.Do love the hospital vs. the VA, I get access to the tests within hours, but they do most of their stuff in-house, too, so it's easier for them.
So...- C-reactive protein is in the normal range for the first time in literally years. It's supposed to be below .767, and is a general inflammation marker, basically. It says the Skyrizi is working like it's supposed to. Very good result--mine was at .18 now, but when I was at my worst, it was at almost 14. Wonderful to see it in the normal range finally.
- eGFR, after dropping down below 60 a month ago is now at 79, means my kidneys are working like they're supposed to. Reassuring. It shows up at just below 60 about once every two years or so, but never for two tests in a row, so just something to keep my eye on.
- Glucose, at 97, is quite normal for my age, and has stayed under 100 for just over a year. Like the eGFR, I have the occasional test showing high, but not for quite some time now.
- MPV was down at the low end at 8, but that's actually better than it has been for the last few years. It's a biomarker showing platelet volume, and increases in it show that the Skyrizi is working, as well. If it continues to work, this should continue to improve in the year to come. It was the only test from the complete blood count that was out of normal ranges, so there were improvements in a number of areas.
- BUN - The only iffy result was the BUN levels at 21, when it should be below 18 - but a look back at the year shows that as a distinct drop from 27 at the beginning of the year to 22 in June, and now 21 in August, so it's going the right direction. It's another kidney function marker, so something to keep an eye on. Hope it continues to improve!
Oh - and she tested me for carbon dioxide, which I've never been tested for before (it was a little high at 29.3) and for Vitamin D for some odd reason, and that was fine. The CO2 seems to be yet one more kidney function marker. Will have to talk to her about that one when she calls.
Heather - you look like you're healing fast! Tough tightrope to walk, between wanting to be back to your normal life and giving your body the healing time it needs, but the hard part's done, just the healing to go! Pleased for you.
Terri - Absolutely LOVE the colors on your gilet, and love seeing these kind of things in progress. Gives me such an idea of how your design brain works. Should be wonderful once it's done. I've done a couple of afghans as just massive granny squares, but never tried anything 3-D with crochet in any way.
Carol - Think about you every day, and hope your healing is coming along, as well, and that the pain is under control now.
Ah - that was Corey on the phone, he's finally on his way, he had to pick up parts to drive up to Fayetteville in the morning and fix the brakes on one of the trucks and get it back on the road quickly. So he'll be heading north instead of south in the early morning, something he does on occasion.
Leftovers for dinner, which I keep looking at in the refrigerator and then close the door and walk away again. Corey's much more creative with them than I am. Will just wait until he gets home and figure it out.
Love y'all!

The power crew got started today trimming/removing trees. They figured a lot of the trees would fit in the chipper - less for me to clean up and worry about. This is a major feeder line for part of the county, it was imperative they have access to that pole. So it will be much easier for them.
Before starting- you can see the pole sticking out, branches up toward the wires...
After starting - soon a clear path to the pole, that line of trees to the left will be eliminated...
The supervisor said once they get finished, there's a good chance the blackberries will be knocked down enough that I can run over them with the mower. Crossing fingers.
I was in that Zoom diabetes prevention meeting during this production.
Hope to catch up with you ladies tomorrow!!

Lanette, you are correct. I totally missed your post in response to mine. I was skimming way too fast.
I can’t remember if I told you my windshield got hit by a rock bringing my brother home. I took it to the body shop today. It was only 4 months ago that the same thing happened on our way home from our eclipse trip. The nick on the hood isn’t really worth reporting, but the insurance agent said I might as well get it all fixed right since my road hazard is $0 deductible. The windshield, of course, was the worst part.10 -
Boy, am I behind. I have been on the wrong month chatting away. Here are the reader's digest updates. I took care of my 4-year-old and my blue-eyed cherub the weekend before last. The 4-year-old that I have taken care of since she got out of the NICU was not waking up, smiling, or talking. The only thing keeping her alive was the ventilator; she was gone. I tried to stay till the mom came in so I could hug her. I talked to the medical team, who agreed she was already gone. I had to run to my car and pick up my dog Rose to drop her off at Day Camp to stay while I was out of town. Then I packed up the car and drove like crazy to the airport. There was only one agent, so I heard the final boarding call while in line and missed my plane.
I didn't make it to New York until 11:30 pm. I alerted everyone. I was so tired anyway. I stuck to the schedule anyway. On Tuesday, we went to the MET(Metropolitan Museum of Art), and my son and I had dinner at Capizzi's. The pizza was terrific. We had fun catching up, and I tried to help my son get his passport done to go to London in the spring. I got a text message that they took my 4-year-old off of the vent, and she passed quickly. They released a balloon in her memory, and her 5-year-old brother said the Lord's prayer.
Wednesday, we went to the Empire State Building. It was rainy and cloudy, and we didn't see much, but we had fun. We went to the Broadway show on Thursday to see Wicked, which was beautiful. Then we went to the Carnegie Deli and had fun laughing and talking. Then we went to my hotel and chatted while I packed for my 2:30 am pick-up to the airport for my 6 am flight. Then I got a text at the airport about what we discussed and that this girl K told me what I felt about the other weekend. We resolved it, but the manager came in and wrote everyone up, and my friend was fired. What a welcome back. I was so sad about it. I kept to myself and decided to stick to that plan for 14 months. As for my Cherub, she was cute as always, and she played with Miss Rachel( I didn't have her). I had two teen boys. I gave one a haircut and a good bath(he is paralyzed). I tried to keep the other comfortable; he was lucky to be alive. He had a GSW on the scalp but can walk and talk. The hematoma and skull fracture caused some headaches, but that is it. I spoke to him today about the safety of returning home. He said they would move to Texas and start over.
Kylie- I love the kitties; one looks like my cat Callie. I love the addition of the garage. You are getting it done, my friend.
Lisa, I love the cape and am sorry it makes you sneeze. It's a beautiful quilt, too.
Machka- I am so glad you are alright. I was worried about you since you said you passed out in a restaurant. Take care of yourself.
Allie, your grandson is a free spirit—so cute. I hope your daughter does well with the C-section.
@snowflake1968- I hope you hear good news soon about the job.
Everyone, thank you for your kind words of encouragement.

Heather - I have been ruminating on the idea of writing the history of the table on the underneath. Where and when it was built. When it moved to my parents house and Dad did the top and then when it came here and I redid it.
I was thinking about the family history for so long, I think like the table it has been something I’ve been scared to start. I need to make a deadline for myself for that too.
I did write in Sharpie the way the leaf numbering. I hope it helps, but I think I’m missing a leaf.
I would love to do the trip through the Rockies via train but I don’t know how I would do.
The wound looks nice and clean.
Lisa - it’s so nice that you have the energy back.
Machka - I can understand why the 16th feels like minutes away. This whole year has seemed so fast.
Hope your commute stays better for you.
Kylia - your sister looks like you. What a beautiful view. I am so happy that you were able to get away on your own.
Terri - I love the colours. Isn’t it amazing what new glasses will do.
I received what my benefits will cover and it’s $500 every two years for glasses. I’m happy with that!
Barbie and Heather - I am the same when it comes to books into movies or tv shows. One that I recently watched and enjoyed though was Daisy Jones and the Six. It’s been a few years since I read the book though.
Lisa - what wonderful test results! For a 10 year period here they tested Vit D on all routine tests. They finally stopped because almost all Albertans were low.
Allie - I’m sorry Tracy is being so difficult. I was just grateful when people bought things for me when I was expecting.
I started my chairs today. I am not happy with them. I need to smooth some spots out and paint them again. I would not attempt this again I don’t think. The seats will be the same colour stain as the table.
Off to bed, I’m trying to get myself into a schedule this week of waking up early so that I don’t suffer next week.

I was talking to the nurse about wound healing. She said that some people cut back on their food after the operation, because they fear putting on weight. Then they aren't getting enough nutrition to heal properly. She said that we should eat lots of fat, which is what a lot of people avoid.
I said there was no danger of that from my point of view! I said that I eat a fantastic, healthy diet, just much too much of it!
Tracey - Would it be possible to paint a couple of the struts in another accent colour? And then maybe a foot rung or two? Just a thought.
Have you decided on your 'capsule wardrobe' for work?
The secret with first draft writing is just to start. Don't try to think it out. Just grab a bit of old paper, or your phone, and get a few words down. Tell yourself it only has to be a sentence. Don't give yourself any standards, just get something, anything, down. It doesn't have to be good. DON'T LET THE PERFECT BE THE ENEMY OF THE GOOD. Just be as honest as you can. Don't pretty stuff up. I find your whole story so interesting, it will tell itself.
Lisa - Yeah for the tests! Gosh, it's been a long haul.
Physio today. I have one physiotherapist for the left hip, (today), and a different one for the right, (next week). I suppose it keeps their accounting straight, as it's included in the cost of the operation.
Monique - I think that's your name. I am so in awe of your energy! And dedication. And resilience. I would be flat on my back after doing any one of the things you described. So glad your NYC trip went well.
Much love to all. Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Good morning from the soggy suburbs. Looking out at my magnolia tree which has 4 blooms on it. Nature is as confused by the weather as I am. 😂
Monique: Loved that you had a great break in NYC. You do such a stressful job. I would be a sobbing wreck.
Tracey: I like what you have done with the chairs. It was quite an undertaking, the history deserves to be recorded.
Lisa: You must be so pleased with your results.
Heather: That’s a healthy wound. Good nutrition is very important for your recovery.
Allie: MFP must be up to their old shenanigans again. I also lost a post last night.
The wet day means I will have no distractions from my crochet after breakfast.
Let’s hope that I don’t lose this one!

Heather - You ain't just a-woofin' on it being a long haul. Some days I feel like a bear stretching and groaning, coming out of hibernation. I've very tempted to see if I can have them postpone the next colonoscopy from September to up in April, after I've been on the Skyrizi for a full year. Mainly because I hate them, but I can probably come up with some reasonably good medical logic if I think about it a minute! The thought of it, even though it's nearly six weeks out, is making me twitch. I'm such a big baby...
Monique - Glad you came back to us again - I knew you were traveling, so I didn't check on you yet! I'm so sorry about your 4-year-old. I cannot imagine you would ever get used to it... and I'm sorry, too, about your friend. Sometimes, management feels they have to place a specific blame in order to settle down department-wide uproars. I can't imagine it's easy to find nurses for what you do that can handle it for long stretches of time. You have my utmost respect. After all that running around in NYC, how's your leg/foot that was in bad shape? Don't forget to sign your posts with name and place - it really does help us keep people sorted and remember their lives. Yours is worth remembering!
Tracey - As someone who refinished a number of pieces of furniture, here's my advice that you didn't ask for. NO ONE is going to feel your chairs and say, "Oooh, that's bumpy." People touch chairs in very specific spaces to pull them out, push them back, and then they only touch the seats with their butts. Concentrate on those and leave the rest to be a little bumpy. Chairs are, without a doubt, the hardest furniture to try to re-finish in any way, whether paint or stain, because of all the rungs in every direction, the odd angles you have to get the brush, and so on. You cannot catch every bump, ever. However, when you're done, singly and as a group, the stained seat with the back and sides painted will be absolutely beautiful. On the write-up, along with Heather's advice, the easiest way to write that kind of thing is to write it like it's a letter to the one of your daughters that's a history buff. Makes for an easier chore.
Terri - Every one of these feels like a triumph, you are absolutely right. I know it's me patting myself on the back, but I am quite pleased when I learn new skills and build things I didn't think I could. When I want to give up (more often than I want to admit), I think of some of those incredible parchment cards you made one year--absolutely gorgeous--and reminds me what beauty people can accomplish if they choose to learn. So I walk back in to the room and try again, and again and again. And again. 😁🥰
Didn't mean to write serial stories, but hey, you can always scroll past, and I won't even know! 🐿️😊🤣 Feeling a little squirrely this morning, rattling here in between laundry loads and dishes. Got all six guest pillows washed and smelling good, and will repurpose the two extra bed pillows for... something. Not sure what yet. Have plenty couch pillows and chair pads already. Tempted to try to make fabric animals... but don't know if I want to learn yet one more completely new skill! Still contemplating.
Am on that first sleep/second sleep cycle again, which is fine. I'm quite productive in these. Will wave Corey off to work and fall asleep around six or seven, most likely.
Hope it is/was a grand day for everyone,
Love,
Lisa in AR

Good morning!
Monique-Glad you found us again! You are a special person! Glad your trip went well. Sounds exhausting but fun! Your "children" are blessed to have you caring for them.
Lisa- Great job on the bloodwork! Healing is a good thing. Not sure if I mentioned that I love the quilt you made!
Heather Healing well too! I am excited for your improvements.
Tracey I love the work you have done on the table and chairs. I am excited for you for the next chapter in your employment.
Allie I too would quit buying! I think your gifts were well thought out!
Both kitties laying on my chest. Purr boxes going. Tori has her tongue out just a bit. I fell asleep with them in bed last night.DH had to put them out when he came in as Cali had decided it was time to play. I didn't even realize he had come to bed until I woke up at 330 for pee break.
Pip Any news on heart monitor? I hope no more episodes. Enjoy your time with sister.
Not feeling right....chest feels like bruised and throat sore. Maybe reflux.....no fever, no cough, no congestion, no headache. Just off feeling.
I am still waiting on family pics from graduation. Someone else took them. May have to remind sister.
Continued healing!
Love the photos and how crafty yall are!
I save often when replying as all I have to do is shift and my posts go poof.
Grateful you are all here!
Much love,

My physio appointment went well. She seemed to think I was doing as well as last time, and read me out the notes Gregor had made. I will start to pick up a bit on the exercises from now on. Her main recommendation was to do the things I enjoy and that will motivate me. So I will wander round to the local shops this afternoon and have a chatty session with all the shopkeepers.
Poor John has been having a very frustrating time with his bank. He couldn't log on, and now is on the phone. I am upstairs, but can hear his exasperated tone!
I will go down and make him lunch in a minute.
