When this is strong it is much easier to recover from the day to day stressors of life. I am working on this too and notice that it has helped me recover from my long term stress. Those here who have heard my stories for the past several years know chronic stress was part of my life. Short version I lost five close relatives and a good friend in the past four years.
I did not feel the need to join a grief group because of support from you and my other friends...Rather I concentrated on my diet, my interest (singing, reading, painting, volunteering, and gardening) to help strengthen my vagus nerve. As a result when the day to day stressors hit I recover much faster than I did before.
I mentioned before other things that help to strengthen the vagus nerve.. staying in the moment, gargling, being in nature, exercise, breathing from your core...Anything that helps to connect you to something larger than yourself...Setting your limits and deciding what to do if they are not respected...Forgiving yourself and others if limits are not respected...Mend and restore if possible but also be prepared to walk away if a win win cannot be reached. I am sure you have your own healthy ways of finding the calm inside you. Namaste!
Wise words! I appreciate how you approach life.💖. I too use my go to things regarding stress, to concentrate to things I can control and release things I can't.
Like my youngest sailor. He's going thru some health issues, getting tests done, maybe a colonoscopy. That's scary for a 25 yr old, and its hard to support him while he's overseas etc. But I do my best, and try not to smother.

My mom sees her regular doctor today who will decide what happens next. They kept her in the hospital because she lives alone. I guess the whole incident started from an untreated UTI. She also has some kind of infection on her scalp that they gave her more antibiotics for. This UTI thing reminds me I need to check me periodically as I don’t get many symptoms. Last time it went into my kidneys which started my whole kidney fiasco and damaged them. She will probably go to rehab for a while before going home, again because of the UTI and she lives alone. She had a test of walking to the bathroom alone from the bed yesterday and didn’t make it, so rehab will be in her future. I’m feeling less stressed about her but am still worried as she was saying how she is so tired of going to the hospital and getting so sick so often. She sounded so done with everything. I hope they treat her for depression too.
Brownie has not had another of those heart attacks, just the cough and sleeps more and more each day. She has a good attitude, eats well, and doesn’t have ‘accidents’ so it’s just a wait and see for her. Death is inevitable, but should be painless for her with a heart attack.
My stress levels have eased some. When I got hit with both my mom’s hospitalization, and Brownie having a bad heart attack at the same time. Then my sisters were not informing me of what was going on with my mom, I pretty much lost everything I know about treating my depression and anxiety. I am better and back on track with that. The sister thing was accidental I found out as I received a whole mess of texts through my email from them all at once. She was sending the updates by text to my email which slowed everything down. I had felt like the ‘black sheep’ of the family prior, but it was simply an accident. Reminds me I need to see both sides of an issue before judging.

Here is one of me with my husband. It seems like a lifetime ago.
Thank you all for the kind words.9 -
Not to be religious, but the Serenity Prayer says how I try to handle the stress in my life like Heather says: “ Lord, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” This helps me stop the worst of the worry because my mom, my son, my DH, my Brownie are all things I cannot change, but I can change how I respond or deal with their issues. Just me getting my head on straight.

Heather, sounds like the very expensive helmet was worth every penny! Glad to hear that your life is normalizing. Love your new floor and Edie’s toucan!
Tracey, I’m so happy for you that you have found a job at a place that appreciates your talent! Add me to the list of people who went back to school and didn’t work in that field afterwards, lol. Rodger’s pens are quite lovely.
Lisa, I don’t think I commented on that absolutely stunning bookcase quilt! All I can say is WOW! Your pumpkins are the cutest!
Machka, happy for you that the moving is done with! I know the unpacking can be a challenge too, but at least you can do that in your own time.
Many more I’m sure I should have/would have liked to comment on, but lately I’ve only found time for reading….
Thinking of Allie’s Tracy, hoping things go well.
Sending hugs to those who need or want them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the new gals!

MFP Weekly Check-in for September 9, 2024
Rita in Roswell, NM- Up 1.2 pounds this week. Stress taking a toll on my progress. I’ll get back to it soon. All time high- 210, 3 months ago- 186, today 172.5. Still in right direction!
Sue in WA State - Had a good week with consistent exercise. Could have used more water but not too bad. Next week I want to work on not eating sweets in the afternoon. I get tired then and my brain thinks if I eat something I will have more energy. Doesn't work. Maybe that is when I should concentrate on drinking more water.
Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast - WT blipped up to 134.3 mid week but down to 129.6 Sunday and today. All activities (BB&B, line dance, Zumba, dog group steps and PT) on hold due oral surgery. Since no activity to track, no idea about sugar, CI<CO or AF..
Evie on Vancouver Island -Sure starting to feel like fall is on the way, but the sun is still shining brightly so that keeps my mood up. Down a pound from two weeks ago. Just for fun I checked where I was a year ago and I’ve lost five pounds since then. Not a huge amount, and certainly not as fast as I’d like, but hoping this is the direction things will be trending now.
Lanette SW WA State – weight staying in range under 160. Slow and steady loss the past 6 months. Crossing fingers labs in November reflect good news. Still walking with weights at least 10 minutes after most meals, incorporating stretches and "exercise bites" as much as possible.

Debbie - have a good time with your mom this weekend! Working at the food bank with her sounds like fun. How's it going with that fella living in her garage?
Lanette
SW WA State
Got home this morning a bit later than planned but I was out in the garden early this morning picking what we didn't get picked yesterday because it was too hot by the time we got to the tomatoes and squash. Out there picking at 7:30-an hour picking tomatoes and 30 min picking squash. Nice to get it done so she wouldn't have to- I didn't pick the cherry tomatoes but she can do that- 2 100 ft rows of tomatoes(1/3 of one row, aprox. is cherry tomatoes) 56 degrees this morning
Had a productive weekend- got everything on my list done- cleaned the carpet from the dog pee from the room mate and mom's room from her dog that should have been cleaned a long time ago.
Food program went well. We didn't have a lot of stuff to give out like we usually do but they got a nice variety-extra on the fresh milk/eggs/cheese, not as much veggies/fruit.
Things are going ok with the guy staying in the garage- He moved an actual twin size bed in yesterday, instead of the air mattress he was using. It is a bit of an inconvience when I needed to get something from the pantry or fridge/freezers that are out there because he went to bed early. One time I just went out quietly with my phone flashlight and grabbed what I wanted. He was in bed but not asleep yet.
The guy that lives in the trailer in the back of the property(great help to mom plus pays a bit for him and his wife to live there)told me he killed a large rattle snack right by their trailer this past week. It is very rare to have them on the property- need to be extra careful when I am out around the property now.
We picked basil, catnip, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, beets and a few melon on Sunday. Drying the catnip, will make pesto tomorrow. Picked a little Swiss chard and egg plant to bring home too this morning.
Will be sharing with friends.
While I was gone, Dh found another little kitten. My friend and her husband came down- saw that the kitten was too young to eat kitten food. The mom is the mom of our three kittens(this was from a different litter). They caught the mom and kitten- mom will be getting fixed next week. They also took the other stray that has been hanging out- She is getting fixed today. She was already pregnant- I was not really ok with them termenating but understood it was best plus we dont need any more cats hanging around here. They will catch the male that has been hanging around and he gets fixed next week too. Costing us $300 for the three strays to get fixed. It will be another $300 when we have the kittens fixed. This is at the low cost clinic- Not so low cost anymore.
Our old cat collapsed on Saturday while I was up at mom's(of course). He has been staying outside for about a month, not wanting to come in at night like he used to. He had fleas really bad. He still isn't acting right, not wanting to eat but is drinking a lot- Neko is I think 16yrs old. He is our original. May need to take him up to put him to sleep tomorrow. He has been staying in my son's room since Saturday. Son was worried about him so much that he went to work and got off early to check on him.
Got strawberries cooking down to make jam. Got a big bag of frozen at the food program- no room in the freezer so cooking them.
Now to catch up on what you ladies have been up to all weekend

My visit to the physio went well. He examined my knee very carefully, and thought I probably have some osteoarthritis on the outside, because of the knock knee. Apart from strengthening exercises, he thought a brace might be an answer, but I don't think that's for me. I will just have to carry on trying to strengthen it and lose some weight. That will help, I know.
I walked down to the main road and bought two Scotch Eggs from Canhams. I'm afraid I also bought a small slice of brownie, which I shared with John for an afternoon snack. Haven't had a snack in ages, but the brownies are just as good as my homemade!
Then I had the bright idea of walking a bit further down to the Sicilian shop, Isola Buena, to buy authentic guanciale and pecorino, but it turned out to be shut on Mondays. Boo!
Then caught the bus home. A good morning's walking.
Finished my French series called 'Sambre' in the afternoon. It's a true crime story, recreated, about a serial serious sexual offender, who escaped detection in northern France for 30 years. Six episodes, exposing the bungling and prejudice of the police and authorities. He was a pillar of the community. Very good.
I'm also watching 'Couples Therapy', which is an American series. I love it.
Did lots of throwing out packaging today, which I hope counts as Cas's decluttering.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Heather – so glad Edie is safe. Thank goodness for that helmet!
We had a “luncheon” at senior bowling today. Everyone was to bring a covered dish. It was since it is the end of the summer season and the winter league starts in 2 weeks. I brought an orzo shrimp salad. Really didn’t get eaten much. If people don’t know what it is, they are reluctant to try it. I’ll take the leftovers to BK tomorrow. I know one manager can’t have it since it has shrimp in it (she’s allergic), but I’m sure others can have it. I certainly don’t need this much. Ceramics tonight. I’ll probably make another orzo shrimp salad for ceramics birthdays at the end of the month. For one thing, because I have orzo that I want to use up and also because the people at ceramics are more willing to try something new.
Someone brought Krispy Kreme donuts to bowling today. I haven’t had one in a long long time so I took ½ of one. I took one bite out of it, and threw the rest away. Now it wouldn’t bother me not to have one for an even longer amount of time.
What will do without Darth Vader? RIP James Earl Jones
Debbie – you have to do what is right for Neko, but my heart still breaks for you
Allie – be careful! That was very nice of that gentleman to help you
After work and counting the donations at the church, the plan is to cut the grass. I do have a follow-up appt. for my eyes. Unfortunately, no ceramics tomorrow night. Not sure what the reason is, but I’m sure if I need to I can find out next Monday.
Enough for now. Off to beddy bye.

just got back from the vets to have one of the cats put to sleep- he is our oldest cat at almost 16yrs old. He wasn't eating much the last month but he collapsed on Saturday and stopped eating. Of course, this happened while I was at mom's.
Son went with me- dh couldn't deal with another loss, his mom really was a witch to him today plus, it was our son's first pet. Hard to see my son cry.
Only a week since the other one passed away.
I will bury Neko when I get back from class.9 -
Debbie - you sure had a busy (and productive!) weekend at your mom's. Sorry to hear about Neko - your house seems to be a magnet for stray cats - or are there just that many in the neighborhood?
And I dropped my old kitty off at the Vet's this morning, didn't stick around. They had a 3:00 time open this afternoon where I could have been with her, but I didn't want her to be in pain any longer. I knew this way the Vet could work her in before lunch. I'm having her cremated, some day I'll find a place for her, Sophie, DH and the ashes of a couple of our favorite dogs we had tucked away. Probably on the ridge at T's, overlooking the valley with a view of Mt. Rainier. Maybe I'll be mixed in there too. I'll let T figure it out, because at that stage I won't be picky!
Allie - ouch! Glad that gentleman helped you back on your feet.
Collette coming tomorrow so I'm picking things up, cleaning off counters, etc. She gets to do the hard work.

Heather - thank you. Rodger has been selling a few to his work mates but the plan is to make them for a craft show.
I love all of the autumnal colours. I’m not aware of current colours or trends though.
Lisa - he is having fun creating these pens and has raided my alcohol ink stash to get some of the colours.
The end of this week and I’ll have 4 weeks in. The one month anniversary is the 19th.
Annie - I wonder if the lights are to allow others to know you are using them.
A lady at work had a headset that did that.
I think most people can be backseat drivers. Even Michaela can’t help but tell people how to drive, she’ll be sitting in the backseat and say “the lights green you know”. I tell her we should wait for the cars ahead of us to move first.
Carol - I very rarely close my curtains, but they would darken the room if they were closed I think. They are supposed to be light “filtering”, not blackout but they don’t allow much light through.
I hope you had good news at your wellness visit.
Margaret - I can handle a short term stress thing pretty well, but when it’s long term stress it takes a toll.
Debbie - a busy weekend. It sounds like the tenants in the back will at least keep an eye on things.
Hope the tenant in the garage is helpful and respectful. Does he work in the area?
Sorry for the loss of Neko.
Allie - I hope you’re not in too much pain tomorrow.
Lanette - Sorry for the loss of your kitty.
Machka - That video is Amazing! Thanks for sharing.
The temp this evening about the same time as last night is 19 degrees cooler. It feels cold!
Rodger and I sat and chatted a bit this evening before he went off to watch his wrestling. It was nice. FB says we have been friends 17 years today. We actually met in July 1982 42 years ago.
Have a great day everyone

This week’s pre-diabetes class is on Stress and how it affects our health and weight. In spoiler:OverviewI use a different app to track stress. I’ve not been very good about it. It seems I’m in a depression along with my anxiety right now due to my mom, Brownie, and DH is sick so been miserable too. This class was needed this week!
Session 14: Stress
The goal of this session is to help you understand how stress can affect your weight and health. You will learn the role stress can play in weight gain and how it can affect your eating habits. By the end of the session, you will know how to manage stress in a healthy way.
Stress
Stress is a mental or emotional strain that results from tough or demanding situations. It is a part of life and everyone handles stress in different ways. Stress does not always have to be bad, even positive events can cause feelings of stress or being overwhelmed.
How Stress Affects Our Bodies
1
Cortisol is often called the "stress hormone". Too much of this hormone can be released into your body when you feel physical or mental stress. Studies have shown that stress and high levels of cortisol can cause extra fat to deposit in the stomach area. This extra fat has been strongly connected to developing heart disease, which includes heart attacks and strokes.
Stress Habits
When you are under stress, there's an urge to do something (think of the fight or flight mode).
Sometimes eating becomes the activity that relieves stress. It's easy to do and it's comforting. One way that you may respond to feeling stressed or having more cortisol is to crave sugar. When you feel stressed, the stress hormone can give you a signal to eat sugary or starchy foods. Once you eat these types of foods, you quickly learn that it is comforting. If you are not paying attention, you may repeat that behavior whenever you feel stressed.
❖ See Handout: Creating a Stress Journal
✓ Skill Building Activity: Journaling Your Causes of Stress (your coach will lead you through this activity)
Track Your Stress Level
2
If you are not already doing so, begin tracking your stress level via the app or website. This will help you to see when you are feeling more stressed. You will also be able to note what types of foods you ate on a more stressful day.
➢ To track stress on the mobile app:
● Tap the blue plus sign icon
● Tap Add Stress
● Select your stress rating, Low (1) to High (5)
● Tap SUBMIT
➢ To track stress on the website:
● Click on the Timeline button
● Click on Add Stress Level
● Rate your stress from Low (1) to High (5)
● Answer Yes or No if you have you done a
stress reducing activity for the day
Fighting Stress
When you take the time to pay attention to stress, you can learn how to prevent it. Sometimes, stress can’t be prevented. That is when you work your best to relieve stress. Different things work for different people when it comes to stress. For some regular exercise works well, for others deep breathing is the key. The goal is for you to find what works best for you. The chart below provides several options for both avoiding stress and relieving it.
3
Spot the Warning Signs of Stress
➢ Anxiety, feeling irritable, and muscle tension.
Practice Relaxation Skills
➢ Yoga, stretching, massage, deep breathing, or meditation.
Find Rewarding Activities that are Not Related to Food
➢ Journaling, enjoying the sunshine outdoors, or watching a funny movie.
Engage in Regular Physical Activity
➢ Exercise can decrease the “stress hormone” & trigger the release of “happy” chemicals that relieve pain & improve mood.
Seek Help from Supportive Friends & Family
➢ Ask for help, it may be hard but when you open up you may find your closest friends or family struggle with stress & have tips for you.
Plan Ahead
➢ Schedules & lists can help keep you more organized.
Use Problem-Solving Techniques
➢ Managing your stress can help you lose weight and maintain a healthy weight long term.
➢ Use the problem solving skills you learned in Session 8.
❖ See Handout: Ways to Fight Stress Part 1 & 2
✓ Skill Building Activity: Deep Breathing (your coach will lead you through this activity)

Summary
Stress can affect your weight and your overall health. Using the tips you have learned in this session, you can prevent some stress. You can also deal with your stress in a healthier way. Remember that you may have to practice new stress reducing activities several times before they feel as good as the old unhealthy ways of coping with stress. Give it time. Be sure to reach out to your coach for support as needed.
Activities
□ Start tracking your stress level on the app or website if you have not already begun to do so.
□ After you have tracked stress levels, take a look back at your meals to see what foods you may have eaten on a more stressful day. Ask yourself these questions and discuss them with your coach:
Keep Moving
Incorporate a daily stress reducing activity like a walk, light stretching or yoga. This will add more movement to your day, while also lowering your stress level.
5
➢ Have you eaten more or less?
➢ Do you eat a certain type of food when you are
more stressed?
□ Do one stress reducing activity each day this week.
□ Goal setting: Work with your coach to determine one stress reducing activity that you feel will help you the most. Example: I will take a walk around the office when I am feeling stressed instead of reaching for a sugary snack.
List your goal here or message it to your coach: ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________
Discussion/Questions
□ Share some of your daily stressors in the discussion group and ask what other group members may struggle with.
□ Share a tip that has helped you reduce stress in the group discussion.
□ Ask group members if they have any tips or suggestions for stress relief that you can use at work, home, school, etc.

Creating a Stress Journal
A stress journal is a great way to recognize the cause of your stress.
If you continue with the journal, you will be able to identify patterns and common themes.
This information will be useful because you can come up with a way to prevent or combat the common stressors in your life.
Here Are Some Questions to Ask Yourself!
1. What is the cause of my stress?
Work, finances or family 2. How did I feel physically?
Heart racing, stomach pains or shortness of breath 3. How did I feel emotionally?
Angry, sad or scared
4. How did I react?
Eat candy, go on a jog or call a friend
Ways to Fight Stress, Part 1
Practice Relaxing
● Yoga, stretching, massage, and meditation are great de-stressors.
Breathe
● Take a deep breath in for 4 counts, hold your breath for 7 counts, and breathe out loudly and slowly for 4 counts.
Engage in regular physical activity
● It can help decrease stress hormones and release “happy” chemicals in the body.
Find rewarding activities unrelated to food
● Read a book, call a friend, work in your garden, or take up a new hobby.
Listen to music
● A string of songs that put a smile on your face can turn your mood around.
Learn to say “no”!
● You don’t have to participate in every event, group or activity, especially if they add stress instead of enjoyment.
Get adequate sleep
● 7-9 hours of sleep is recommended.
Ways to Fight Stress, Part 2
Get a massage
● Foot massages can be especially wonderful. Take a soothing bubble bath or shower
● Feel the warmth!
Go out for an evening of dancing
● Dancing can be freeing. Tense and relax your hand
● Feel the tension leaving your body. Laugh!
● Enjoy an old favorite sitcom or a funny YouTube video. Take some punches at a punching bag or pillow
● Most gyms have punching bags. Get your hands dirty
● Gardening is a great de-stressor. Enjoy warm herbal tea
● Try a cup of peppermint tea.
Go for a brisk walk with your friend or your dog
● Furry friends can be great company.
Scream!
● You will feel better once you let it out! (A car is a great place to contain the noise or into a pillow!

On a scale of 1 to 5, I'm probably always at a 3 ... until something more stressful comes along at work or at home, just about every day.
Recently I’ve realised that doctors, researchers etc. are very good at pointing out the negative effects of stress, but they tend to be vague on the solutions. These things may help ... see list in spoiler.
So I have been asking myself what actually does help me.
The number one thing that helps me is dealing with whatever is causing the extra stress:
Deadline at work ... put in the time and finish.
Something going wrong at work ... solve it, but I might need to exercise with this type of stress too.
Job hunting ... update the CV and review the interview questions and answers.
Moving house ... spend as much time as possible packing, loading, moving, etc.
Coursework ... clear the next few evenings and get it done.
If I am feeling anxiety or if I need to think something through, that's where exercise really helps.
I figure relaxation can come later as a celebration.
What types of do you all have and what genuinely works for you?

Today’s gratitude: Joe is considering our neighbor, the water guy’s, job offer to help him out a couple of days a week. It would be good for Joe to get out of the house, be more active, and have a guy friend here to talk to. Might also help move our water system upgrade forward. . . ;}
Clutterbug challenge
Day 6/30: two tunic tops whose colors I love but never wear, a “bully” blouse, a pair of pocketless capri sweats, and the only real wrench, my first leather jacket. Size 12 too small and we no longer ride.
Day 7/30: 5 mismatched sox, a pair underpants, a glove, a pair of sox I never wear, and the favorite bathing suit ever. Probably a size 3. Bought at Nieman Marcus? in SF fifty? years ago. Off the shoulder, diagonal black / white with a little flower at the shoulder. Loved it, but it would be too tiny even for my god daughter’s daughter. Kissed it goodbye.
Tracey your dining area with new drapes, restored bench, chairs and table, just lovely!
VERY well done! And the scrapbook page leaves. ;} Oh than Michaela!
Heather “sludgy” is just the right word. I always think the “earth tones” just look soiled. I too favor clear, bright, translucent jewel tones.
Annie ten pounds? Woo HOO! Thanks for the earbud recommendation.
Margaret the vagus nerve strengthening advice. BTW humming lowers my blood pressure ;}
Rita thanks for the mouthwatering pics. Never thought I’d say this (as I used to think like Lisa about vegetables) but I am looking forward to being able to eat salads again. Thankful for the abundance of soup and pasta but really miss CRUNCHY food. Soon, ,I hope!
Evelyn con VERY gratulations on the five pounds. Slow and sure means gone forever!
Machka pale blue, lavender and cherry red. Really loved the “Yes I Can!” video. Just WOW!

Machka - now that the house purchase/move is done, do you foresee any other big projects on the horizon? You've had quite an eventful 12 months with that and traveling. Hope your DH is settling in just fine at the new place.
NSAID Survey - do any of you rely on NSAIDS such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin a once or twice a week (or more) a lot for aches and pains? I used to be on them every day a couple decades ago, and even took Vioxx for a while (taken off the market for causing heart problems!) after I herniated that disc. But I was able to wean off everything, probably because of all the activity I was getting at the time. Now, I know I'm sitting more and I'm paying for it.
I'm probably going to have to break down and see Dr. Lisa about this sciatica. Really don't want to make NSAIDS a habit again because of the side effects. I'm grateful the morning stretches give me some relief. Not sure if I need a chiropractor, more PT or what.
I did some heavy/awkward lifting yesterday with Miss Kitty getting her into the Vet. Rats.
Time to go stretch.
Lanette
SW WA State8 -
Lanette - Oh boo for the sciatica. Something like that can take the joy out of life. I'm taking paracetamol as little as I can for my aches, but it's a different kind of pain. Last night was wretched. Lost 4 hours sleep.
They do say sciatica doesn't last forever, and I had it in the past, but that's no comfort.
This morning I attacked my ancient basil and made three pots of pesto. It's still staggering on, so I'm giving it a bit longer. 20 months old now!
Then I watched Cas on YouTube and she sent me upstairs with bathroom rug and towels, and I managed to throw away quite a bit of first aid stuff that has expired or I will never use. Good feeling.
John seems reluctant to help me put together the little cupboard, so I will have to do it myself. I don't mind. I'm usually pretty good at that kind of thing, but it wouldn't hurt to have an extra pair of hands. Perhaps he's afraid of arguments!
I've put the old cupboard out on the pavement, but it's cold and windy, so not much foot traffic. Expecting rain, so will bring it in.
John is collecting Bea today and bringing her back here for her dinner. He is not totally sure where her new classroom is but I expect he will find it. I won't go, because it is a long walk.
Had our Scotch Eggs for lunch with chopped salad. Yum.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Kylia Wow that bear!
Rita You are doing right by Brownie and your Mom. Don't beat yourself up about it! ... I had a misunderstanding just recently from a text that never went through. I still don't know why.
Mo that's a lovely picture!
Tracey I got certifications in computer security on top of a masters in computer science. But never got a job in that field. It requires looking trustworthy and I fidget, on top of being female.
Debbie so sorry about Neko.
Heather good to see you out walking the shops again!
Allie sorry you fell. Are you sure you are okay? Find any bruises?
Lanette so sad to hear about Miss Kitty. ...I can't take any NSAIDs anymore.
Machka that clip was amazing! ...My big stress is over how long this stage of housing with my father will last. If he has to go into a home, we might have to sell this house. I'm not sure where I would live. Making a plan would help, if I could face it that directly. This stage might last ten years or ten days.
I'm still working on updating his beneficiaries after my mom passed last December. Lots to do, and not much extra time for long term chores.
Have a fantastic day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

Back home now. Gained a couple of lbs., no big. Drove by our old house, glad they kept it up.

Marigolds come into their own towards fall...

Good morning, my chickens...
Had to check to make sure it still WAS morning by the clock - I slept 9 hours last night! Needed it.
Allie - Falling is so stinking scary. Hope you're doing OK today, not too ouchy. 😲
Lanette - So sorry about Miss Kitty... On the subject of pain relief: No NSAIDS ever again for me--bleeding ulcers pushing you into anemia will do that to a girl--and acetaminophen (paracetamol) only helps me with headaches. But good news/bad news/good news on the pain front:The good news is I've been able to often skip the 4th dose of opioid that I take for arthritis pain in the mid-afternoons for the last few weeks.
Yesterday, though, I stumbled while stepping down off a curb in front of a store. Just a moment of inattention while I was trying to put my change back in my sling bag. Unlike Allie, I didn't QUITE fall, but I felt myself start to go down, twisted somehow, and had to take six or eight really hard steps across pavement to keep me from falling. I'm so grateful that no cars were coming, because I was either stumble/running or I was going to face plant right in front one. Allie's probably hurting much worse today. The bad part, weirdly, was that a little old lady stopped and helped me pick up my change and bills and asked me if I was OK. I was not OK, but I couldn't say it out loud to her.
Anyway, today, I'm sore from my neck to my ankles, particularly the backs of my thighs. But I was able to take yesterday's skipped pain med added to this morning, and that, added to moving around is making the pain begin to calm down. The bad news was that I had to take it, but the good news is that I had it there to take.
In all honesty, doctor's need to recognize that 65+ and 70+ women are NOT likely to be out selling or buying prescription pain pills, and start treating pain in our population with compassion instead of suspicion. Tired of that attitude from all concerned.
Machka - That video made me tear up. Thank you for posting that. Regarding stress - I can practically feel my heart rate slow down when Egg is in my lap, eyes closed, purring, and purring even louder when I pet her. I think cats, for me, are wonderful stress relievers. Companions that don't need constant attention, but make it clear that they're part of your life. Egg is indoor/outdoor, so no leash time needed, but I would think that walking a cat and walking a dog are very different activities!
Mo - What a lovely picture of you and your husband. I'm sorry you're missing your dad... It sounds simplistic, I know, but I've found that in my life, the depth of grief for those I've lost matches exactly to the depth of love I still feel for them. Every tear is a tribute to that love.
Debbie - I'm sorry for Neko's loss.
That's it for now... possibly more later. I want to get a few things finished up!
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR
PS - Egg just brought me a lizard. There's this particular yodel/yell she does when she's brought me a "gift," and sure enough, she had shoved the poor thing under the kitchen rug. This is when she does NOT help my heart rate or blood pressure. 😲😹🐈⬛ Still better than the baby snakes in the spring, though.
