1 Oct - Walked 0.65 miles - Ran 2.45 miles - Treadmill
2 Oct - Walked 2.15 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Driveway wun - Singles tennis 1h42m43s
5.25/80 mile goal
I played tennis with my friend who had the knee surgery in the spring again today. She's getting more confident in her knee, so did better today. We had some really great, long rallies. It was fun. I won 6-4, 6-3.
When I got home, I did a wun on the driveway. We had planned to mow mom's lawn, so I didn't want to overdo, but it didn't dry off in time, so that will have to be for another day.
I did go to mom's and get some containers full of water for non-potable use. I also took a bath - she doesn't have a shower. That felt really good. I was beginning to need it with all the sweating I was doing. They are still saying they hope to have water restored Friday.
This should last me a couple of days. It's amazing how much water it takes to flush the commode.4 -
Seeking advice from the collective… I’m giving some thought to getting a second hand treadmill (paying £100 or so) for when it’s really cold and wet… good idea or bad idea? There always seem to be a plentiful supply gathering dust in people’s homes… is it that people are faddy, or are injuries more common, or is it just too boring?
I think people have good intentions but don't use it as much as they think they will. I have a treadmill mostly for a break from the summer heat but I'd much rather be outside and honestly don't use it a lot. But, I am glad I have it for when I need it.
I'd say just try to be honest yourself about how much you'd use it and whether that amount is worth the cost of the treadmill.5 -
@daria0919 Wow! Good idea heading to another spot.2

I got my plan sorted out. I'm going to use the Hansons advanced plan again. It adds up to 125 miles for October. I think the chances of getting all the runs in is pretty slim but I'll do best I can. I'm on call one week this month and time will be really limited that week.
No run today. I didn't have it in me after work and no time before work. But I went for a walk, 3.5 miles.7 -
Morning all
Got in 5.0 miles at 09"36
@quilteryoyo glad you were able to get a bubble bath in!
@AmunahSki I'm a no on treadmills. I don't think it gets cold enough here in England to warrant it.
Scotland, the North maybe...
But the rest? A week-10 days in Jan/Feb where it might snow/get icy. Naahhh
Just wear layers, run slower.6 -
Forgot to post yesterday’s miles:
10/2 2.11 miles6 -
Morning all.... Having been without electirc and then water for days in the past I am very sympathetic and cannot imagine the situation so many folks are in right now.
Last year Oct was a 200 mile month! If I am going to keep up with my mileage I need at least 138 more to go. Not sure I will make it but going to give it a shot. My walking miles are much more than last year so I am going to try to switch some of my lunchtime walks to short jogs if the weather cools off enough.
Glad to see everyone here!!!!7 -
@martaindale A nice long walk is great when you can't run. Good luck with your new plan.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . Great run today.

@AmunahSki I bought a used treadmill off of Facebook Marketplace. Figured I would use it during cold/rainy days in the winter, but I found I use it much more in the summer. It is nice to have a fallback. It was one of the best purchases I have made.
I was thinking about my upcoming race, and I MIGHT run for my brother (literally). I could check in as him (since we are twins), and run the race with his number and name. Haven't checked with him, but I might run it past him to see what he thinks.
6.2 miles this morning. October 3rd and still 73F at 5am. Just tried to take it easy. Ended up faster (and harder) than I wanted.

Great running @Scott6255 . I'm glad you are thinking about running the race for/as your brother. I'm sure whatever you do about the race, he is going to enjoy seeing you. Family is important, and I think more so with twins. (My nephew married a twin, so I have a little insight into the twin mind. LOL)

7.50/80 mile goal
Went to the gym this morning. Had a bench press PR of 55 pounds - I know, it's not much, but I'm getting stronger.
After I got home, I did the planned drill workout. I didn't push the warm up and cool down, and did pretty much the minimum since I knew what the rest of the day was going to hold. The paces for the 30s cadence intervals were 9:19, 9:59, 10:10, and 10:40. All were greater than 190 spm.
I rested a few minutes and then went out and cleaned my gutters and blew the leaves off of the porches and driveway. I'm getting new gutters tomorrow, so felt I needed to clean up a bit before the guys get here.
I got stuff together and went down to help mom mow her yard. My neighbor that usually helps wasn't in town this week. We were supposed to mow it last week, but it rained all week. It was really, really big. After I finished what I could do with the riding mower, I did the weed eating and then finished the push mowing that mom couldn't do. (She pushed for almost an hour. She amazes me.)
I came home and rinsed the grass off of my legs and arms at the outdoor faucet. (I had running water for a while today, but it's gone again.) I ate a quick sandwich and left for tennis.
I played singles with the same friend today. I actually played a lot better than expected, considering that my arms and legs were already pretty tired. We had fun. Scores were 6-3 and 4-6. I have a really hard time seeing the ball under the lights...at least that's my excuse for the second set.

I ran 6 uneventful miles this morning. It was warmer than the last few days, but not too bad. Tomorrow the plan calls for an interval run.
@scott6255 I think that is a great idea to run for/as your brother.
@quilteryoyo I hope you get your water back soon.

Longest run/walk - 5.33mi/8.57k
Longest run - 4.63mi/7.44k4 -
Thanks @kgirlhart . I think my new favorite sound will be the commode filling up with water all by itself. Glad you had an uneventful run today.
Great running @tarun_yadavA . I just thought I had water yesterday. It was short lived. Not sure what the estimate is. I have heard that the city of Greeneville is going to make sure the city has water and is stable before they start "selling" it to the county systems. I understand that to a point, but we need water too. Have fun tonight, but keep that run in the morning in mind so you don't overdo too much. Don't make me say "I told you so." in the morning.
Wow. Great run @AmunahSki !
I'm supposed to be getting new gutters today. I got up early just to open the gate and then got a text about the time they were supposed to be here to say it would be lunch, that they had to finish up a job from yesterday first. I wish they had told me that last night. I could have slept in....which I needed!

I went out for a walk on the driveway this morning since the gutter guys aren't coming until later. I was having some minor tummy issues and I don't think I ate enough yesterday, and probably didn't drink enough water either. As a result, this 2 mile walk was really, really tough.6 -

Getting back into rucking with 6k yesterday with 18lbs. I've forgotten how is it like to move fast with a pack. It got me huffing.8 -
10/1 14.36 miles, Running Partner A 0600
10/2 14.47 miles
10/3 14.48 miles, Running Partner A 0600, Dense Fog
10/4 14.18 miles
400 miles is goal
I have my yearly race coming up. Hoptown Half Marathon 10/19/2024. My running partners usually come with, but this year, they are both busy. I have the caregiver booked, so the mom is not alone. I really thought about dropping it, but I need to do things outside as I tend to isolate during stress/anxiety.
This makes me smile and breathe8 -

October Goal: 140 Miles
10/01: 6.06 miles
10/02: 4.25 miles
10/03: 6.05 miles
10/04: 7.02 miles
23.38/140 miles completed for October
I ran 7 miles today. Today was speedwork and the plan was 400m intervals at 5K pace. The plan said 7 miles in 1 hour 34 minutes at an average pace of 13:25. I ran it in 1 hour 20 minutes with an average pace of 11:27. I think I ran all of the intervals "too fast", but I was close on the fast intervals, it is the slower segments that I can't seem to hit. I felt good about the run though.
@alphhowls I am glad you are doing your race.
@amunahski Great job on the PBs!

Have a nice weekend all7 -
Sounds like you did great @kgirlhart !
Nice hungover run today @tarun_yadavA ! Happy Birthday to your SIL. You don't look any worse for the wear. I hope you recover quickly and have a better run tomorrow.
2 -
@tarun_yadavA I had faith you would be able to get your run in after your Friday night drinking. Must be all the training 😉
@AlphaHowls glad you are going ahead with your race. As it happens my race is the exact same day.
Got 13.1 miles this morning. Upper 60s - low 70s, pretty warm, but I suppose it could have been worse. Didn't feel like I was going to die at the end, even though I haven't run a HM since March I think.

@Scott6255 The fitness comes back more quickly than you expect but mentally it's a big boost to see you can still do the distance after some time away. Curious what your brother would think about you running for him. I think it's a nice gesture.
@quilteryoyo Having the water come back temporarily is such a tease! Fingers crossed for you to get it back soon.5 -
Oct total: 6/125 miles
YTD: 780.7/1200 miles
10/5: 6 miles
I slept in this morning, which was much needed. Even though I got out a bit later than planned, it wasn't crazy hot. About 74° and the humidity is a little lower right now.
My motivation waxes and wanes from day to day. After I did that speed workout earlier in the week, I was feeling motivated to train and optimistic about my upcoming plan. Today, I'm not feeling it as much. While I'm enjoying running, the effort of running hard is not something I'm really in the mood to do a lot of the time right now.
I'm going to make an appointment with my physician. I feel like some of my lack of motivation is just general fatigue. It's getting difficult for me to tell the difference between perimenopause symptoms and whether or not there may be something else going on. I am requiring a solid hour more sleep than I have for several years and when I can't get it the effects are very noticeable. I enjoy the feeling of pushing myself and racing and achieving goals. However, months of training takes a toll and right now the thought of doing it is kind of deflating.6 -
Great job on the HM distance @Scott6255 .
Thanks @martaindale . You did great with your run this morning. I understand how you feel. I'm glad you are going to see your doctor. It could be that you are low in some vitamin or anemic or something that you can easily fix. Hang in there. I hope you get the motivation back soon.

5 Oct - Walked 0.99 miles - Ran 8.26 miles - Driveway and road
18.75/80 mile goal
I went out for my scheduled long run today. Plan called for 10 min warm up, 8 mile run/walk, 10 min cool down. I walked for 0.37 miles and then ran part of the rest of the warm up (included in the run total). I knew this was going to be hard, because I haven't traversed that distance in a long time. I decided to just do what I could do and if I needed to walk a lot, I'd do my best to get the mileage in, regardless of the pace. I'm glad that was my plan so I wasn't disappointed.
The first 3 miles I tried Jeff's method for my hopeful pace, and did a run/walk of 1 min/30 sec. After that, partly because of the hills, I just ran when I wanted and walked when I wanted. After mile 6, I walked a whole lot more than I ran. My splits were 14:08, 12:58, 13:15, 15:01, 14:39, 14:31, 15:08, and 15:58 min/mile. My avg HR was 113 with a max of 139 bpm. I guess because of this Strava said this was easier than my normal exercise! Ummm. No it wasn't!!!
I got water back while I was running this morning. They were flushing out the lines as I passed by. I stopped and talked to the worker. He said it should be permanent this time, unless there's a break in the line somewhere. We will be under a boil alert for a few days/couple of weeks, but just not having to worry about flushing the commode is a great help!5 -
Oh no! Strava is down!
How am I going to see how many hills did I do today?
I think I logged 13.5k today
Interestingly Garmin Connect is not fully functioning either.
Time to bring back out the map, compass and measuring wheel3
