I logged my first Running Workout! Despite adding runs into my walk intervals for months now, I always just logged it all as a Walking workout. But this time I did my walking first. Then started a run. Then finished with walking. I can’t believe I could run almost continuously for 12 minutes. I had to stop a few times to cross the street. But I mostly just ran the entire time. I’m so proud of myself. 😁13

Went to a holiday party for the museum volunteers this evening.
Ate a light lunch and only one small snack in anticipation. Banked 1300 calories, but had so many left over came home and had a snack.
That was unexpected. I don’t usually run my mouth, but I was so busy talking I didn’t have the time or desire to eat. Had a great time, looked and felt great. Never thought I’d be wearing mini dresses in my 60’s.
Yall, I’m socializing (!!!), dressing like a way cool grandma, bitching at the eye doc because i need to wait two more weeks before I can do headstands.
I am a way cool grandma.
I’ve been sorting tens of thousands of family photos all week while learning to use a far newer iOS on a far newer MacBook, moving stuff to iCloud (ack! Double ACK!!!!!) and then backing them up, because I don’t trust said cloud.
I am up to my earlobes in fat photos, and am just marveling at the difference.
If you are like the me of six years ago, and reading this ENTIRE thread for support and motivation, do this thing.
I’m so glad I did, and I wish I could have reached out and held my 2018 self’s
hand and told her,”what a wondrous new world it’s gonna be when you get there. You’ll thank yourself. “12 -
Got good news at my neurosurgeon follow-up appointment today (consequent to a fall on Nov. 11, skull fracture/brain bleed and ICU stay): CT scan shows the brain bleed has healed.
I'm allowed to go back to normal levels of exercise intensity and exertion in other activities, as long as it doesn't worsen the remaining symptoms (which are mostly just mild headaches). Yay!
I'd been allowed to work out after getting out of the hospital, but only at super low intensity, like able to very easily speak in full sentences, so I'd been monitoring heart rate and trying to keep it at an ultra-low for me 115bpm (just under 65% max, or less than 50% HR reserve), and not exceed 120.
I kept tonight's workout moderate, but not HR limited, and it all felt OK. Happy!12 -
@AnnPT77 thats wonderful, welcome news!!
Did you ever as a young person, imagine yourself in the future, chomping at the bit, wildly happy, to be this active?!
Yay, you!!!!2 -

You mean when I was in the "chosen last in gym class" group (literally)? Absolutely not, no way. Even in my 30s/40s, when I was at least (and at most ) intermittently active? NopeNopeNope.
45-year-old me would not have remotely believed that 69-year-old me would even be able to do these things, let alone love and crave them like this. Also, 69-year-old me - at least when not recovering from head injuries - can do so many daily life activities and home chores easily that were effortful and exhausting for 40-something me.
I feel sad that so few people seem to understand viscerally how powerful a quality of life improvement movement can be, and bring. It's not miserable, grueling workouts. It's fun through movement.9 -

Our education system fails our kids (and therefore all of us) in so many ways.
We never attended the same school or else one of us would have been picked SECOND to last for sports.... Even today I still don't "chomp at the bit" to go to the gym. I love being active, but some seasons I'm less so. I feel much better when I'm active, but I still don't get excited about the idea of going to work out. Its inertia. That's why for me it has to be a habit. That's why maybe next year I need to keep going to the gym even when I'm busy with other activities because otherwise I get out of the habit every summer and it takes quite a while to get back in the habit. Sometimes I get back out of the habit in the first weeks of January because of the "resolution" crowd that always comes briefly. I'm sure some folks think I'm in that group because they don't see me from July to October.

I think you’re overthinking and that they don’t think about you at all. 😘
Gym would never even notice me gone. Yoga studio, miss a week and everyone’s shouting “where’ve you been? We missed you!” ❤️4 -
I’ve decided to stop drinking alcohol.. I’m not an alcoholic or a regular drinker anyway but the odd night out and special occasions BUT I’m 50 in a few weeks I’ve decided to go with “ my body is a temple..” sort of life style. Anything damaging isn’t going in it 👍😊8

I went a whole day without drinking milk! I usually spend about a thousand calories a day on milk and have had a sore stomach for the last month or so and haven't been able to leave the house. I found a new favourite drink- chai tea with a dash of cold water and stevia. Hopefully I can stick with this and I'll lose at least 5kg by not drinking milk. It's been a while...4

I competed in my first federation sanctioned powerlifting meet last Saturday. Even with a few obstacles, I still delivered and put up a 1,219 lbs total and placed in two categories.

I'm just getting back into logging using MFP, but I've been trying to eat better and work out on a (mostly) daily basis with my hubby for about a month now.
Last week, I had a really stressful day and bought a bag of chips. I ate only a handful before I decided I didn't want any more. Previously, I would have eaten the whole bag in one sitting.
Sadly the scale hasn't been moving, but I have started to notice my clothes fitting differently. I put on a pair of knee high socks that used to be tight on my calves, and they're very comfy now!
My leggings are starting to get loose around my hips, too!
Not gonna lie, I hate how my belly seems like it's hanging down so much more now, but I'm trying to remind myself that means that I'm losing fat there and it's becoming skin!10 -
Baked and decorated over 8 dozen cookies for Xmas dinner and I didn’t eat not one cookie, not even a bite. I let Grandma sample them all to make sure the batches came out right.. I packed a proper lunch too. I’m so proud of myself for being disciplined.9

Yes! Well said. I've always hated exercise like doing a work-out vid or something, but yoga has saved me. Habit is everything in this. I know it's cold and crappy out, but if I don't put in the work, there will be nothing to celebrate! I'm def feeling the momentum & I don't wanna lost that.5 -
When I worked out less this thread always had a ton of exciting updates. Now I’m working out more and more frequently I’m ahead of the thread. I love reading other people’s updates and little wins between sets5

“Between sets”.
That’s an NSV right there, honey. There was a time in my life I had no clue what that would have even meant, lol.6 -
I'm sticking to my goals! In December! I don't care what festive temptations come my way -- I mulishly continue getting my daily exercise, and eating right. So there!13

I've done morning exercises 4 days in a row!11

For another season, completed the Concept 2 Holiday Challenge: 200k rowing machine, 400k stationary bike, or equivalent combination between US Thanksgiving (Nov 28 this year) and Christmas Eve.
It was more challenging than usual, because I cleverly fractured my skull and created a brain bleed on Nov 9, so I was not allowed to exercise beyond a super-light intensity until cleared by my neurosurgeon on Dec 12. Even after that, continuing headaches and fatigue from recovery were an extra bump in the road. I'm pleased to have been able to finish it again.
I just realized, too, that sometime since on-water rowing ended for the season, I went over the line into 5M+ Concept 2 bike meters logged overall (since I got the bike in Feb 2021, so not that stunning), so I get a free long-sleeved t-shirt.11 -
We listed goals for the New Year here on MFP back in January 1. I rashly said I’d like to swim 3 miles, having only managed a mile once at the time I said it.
This month I’ve done a mile and a half several times, and today I did 2 miles for the first time and am very very happy with that.
I also said then that I’d like to get chinstand. I got that several months ago, and I can even incorporate them in Sun B’s.
