Caving, actually did a spot of sport caving for a change. Joe and I decided to do a a shortcut coming back from the columns in OFD. It was a very muddy V2 boulder problem which would be death or severe injury if you slipped. Good fun.

Yikes, @drmwc: Once again, you and I have different definitions of fun. :D Good thing you have skills!

Lazed around yesterday, but more machine rowing today, the 1k, 2k, 2k format with easy rowing/water-guzzling for 2 minutes between and at end. Average pace on the km pieces was 2:32.8 per 500m, little over half an hour including the between-kms bits, and (eep!) just over 50% of it Z4 . . . 9' above 220-age. But it felt OK, even if it maybe wasn't wise in current context?

Finished up with 2 sets of 3 kettlebell exercises with a light kettlebell, just to see how the iffy joints felt about the movements: 2-hand swings, goblet squats (but only to thighs parallel floor and with a chair behind me, because I don't need to risk falling backward at this point), and a kettlebell around the world variation in squat position.

    Calisthenics - 30 min

I guess you could call it calisthenics. My gym had a year-end fitness review for free, which included one personal trainer session. My guy had me doing a variety of squats, etc, using resistance bands to challenge balance, a band to tie knees together which had to be resisted by pushing out, and between sets was brief stints on the rowing machine to keep the heart rate up. By the end my legs were a little sore from working unused muscles, but really didn't feel like much of a workout for my time. Nothing against the trainer, I'm sure others would benefit, just not for me.

Welcome, @Paschen81! I started getting routinely active right after full-bore cancer treatment, and kept going . . . one of the best things I've ever done for myself, now that I'm looking back from 20+ years later. I did it to recover normal strength and energy - maybe even happiness - post treatment, but it delivered not just that but so much more. Keep up that good stuff, I predict you'll be glad you did!

I went climbing for 2.5 hours. I got obsessed with a jump. After 50 minutes, I finally got it.

It was actually not that hard (maybe V3) but I am terrible at dynos. After 10 minutes, I realised it was feasible: I was getting both hands on the hold I was jumping to fairly reliably. But I was barn dooring off.

I eventually realised I could stop the barn door by landing my left foot on a volume simultaneously as getting the hand hold.

After this adjustment, I still wasn't quite holding it. Eventually I realised my hips were too far from the wall at the catch. So I concentrated on fixing that, and to my surprise, it worked.

Didn't post last night, pretty much dragging.

Yesterday, 10k + 3' stationary bike, little slower 86w average.

Today, rowing machine, the 1k/2k/2k format with 2' easy row in between. Total of 5791m.

Not much else in the way of stats, because my (bleep) Garmin decided 2 days in a row that it should delete the workout after I ended it, even though I swear I didn't touch that control. From looking at the display during the workouts, I think bike was mostly Z2, but today's row got into Z3 for quite a while, maybe a little bit just over the line into Z4.

Maybe it's time for a new Garmin.

Late evening, 3 sets of 10 of the same 3 kettlebell exercises I did a couple of days ago, still keeping it light, plus one set of hanging knee raises.

Being a former IT professional, I'm sure you already tried powering down your Garmin and turning it back on. If not, give it a try. I had some issues with mine about a year ago that drove me batty. I can't believe it took me so long to try power cycling it. It worked just fine after that and still does. I'm actually quite impressed that the thing still runs pretty much flawlessly after all the use it gets. For sure the battery life is a lot shorter than it was when it was new all those years ago.

    Upper Body - BB Day

    Bench Press 5x5
    BB Row 4x10
    Incline Bench Press 3x10
    Pullups 30 total reps
    BB Shrugs 3x10
    Seated BB OHP 3x10
    Preacher Curl 3x10
    Cable Pushdown 3x10
    Cable Woodchoppers 3x10

Back to work today, so back in the gym at 5am. Found all the New Year's Resolutions crowd...normally it's the same 15-20 people at that time, today was pushing 50, and that's just in the weights area. Not sure which will whittle the newcomers down faster...working out, or the time of day...

    Cardio -
    Incline treadmill walk - 1hr (820 calories)
    Shovel Snow - 1 hr (549 calories)

Boss told me to work from home today instead of braving the snowy/icy roads between towns following a storm overnight, but I gotta say it's a lot harder to concentrate and be productive from my kitchen table (with dogs excited I'm home and snow-day kids yelling at each other) than at the office.

No workout this morning. Late night, dog woke me up middle of the night to be let in the yard, ended up sleeping through my alarm and missed my workout. Fortunately my wife woke me else I would have been late to work.

Useless trivia: Discovered the other night that your car's odometer includes going in reverse to the overall mileage of the vehicle, as my odometer clicked over while I was backing into my garage. Never seen it before, somehow believed only forward motion added and reverse was ignored. (At least I did not believe that old commercial where a crooked car dealer drove a car in reverse on the highway in order to LOWER the odometer for better resale.)

Odometers USED to run backwards in reverse. That was decades ago. My 1977 Celica ran the odometer forward if you went in reverse, but the old 1969 Dart went backwards. It also had reverse threads on the lug nuts on the driver side.

Bonus trivia: if you change tire size for some reason, you can affect the speedometer AND the odometer.

Climbing, 2 hours. Decent session, I got an overhanging V4 which was my anti-style.
I also got a pretty hard slab, which needed some delicate balance-y stuff.

    Today
Climbing, only 1.5 hours as I got to the gym late. Fun.

There was a new set, which is not yet graded. I spent most of my time on that. I sent one pretty hard route. I also got quite far one which was a toe hook followed by a small dyno to start, but I fell off mid way up.

Oh man! Reading about your Billy Blanks Taebo (video?) was a blast from the past! I used to work out with him via VHS tape. Also Denise Austin's kickboxing. Good times.

21 min. on the elliptical trainer at noon, then some stretching. Maybe TMI, but hubby and now son have both had a stomach bug, probably a norovirus, over the last few days. My stomach felt a little unsettled while I was working out so I decided to go easy (and cleaned off the machine when I finished, as per usual). I'm still okay, so maybe I won't get this virus . . . .

We are having very cold weather here (the high has been below freezing these last few days) and with snow expected tomorrow, I needed to get some kind of workout in. Somehow completing a 500 piece puzzle isn't burning many calories!

I didn't post day before yesterday (Jan 6), but did the 10k + 3' CD stationary bike thing, a moderate 91W average, mostly Z2.

No workout yesterday, no good excuse, fell for Winter doldrums I guess. Went and got a cloudy film laser-zapped off one cataract lens (a.k.a. YAG procedure) for a dramatic improvement in left eye vision, so that's a plus.

Rowing machine today, the same format as recently, ending up with 5889 imaginary meters in total including row in/out bits and CD. Few seconds under 10' of it Z4, 13' Z3, remainder below for a total of 32:13 (which includes a couple of 30"-ish breaks to glug some water).

Before the row, 2 x 10 hanging knee raises, and after the row, 3 x 10 each of the same three kettlebell exercises in a circuit again . Shoulders and knees holding up OK doing that so far, though it's not comfy while in process. Proceeding slowly and cautiously.

Welcome to the thread to you, too, @spinster321! Keep up the goodness. I need to do more stretching, so thanks for that good example. :)

    Treadmill - 1 hr, 3.0 mph, 12% incline

My normal commute is about an hour without traffic. Snow was just starting to fall as I left this morning, average speeds were down about 10%, no big deal. But then traffic ahead slowed to a crawl, darn near a stand-still, and I managed to drive forward about 3 miles over the next 90 minutes. My boss called to say the weather and traffic, if anything, got worse as I kept going north, so I made an executive decision to turn around and head home. All told, I drove for almost 4 hours to get 80 miles on my car and arrive back home after accomplishing nothing, not even getting paid for my time on the road. So yep, I am NOT working from home the rest of today in protest.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, @J72FIT: I know it's kind of frustrating to back off the usual intensity/activities to heal properly, but I hope the cochlear implant surgery will give you excellent long-term outcomes.

Back to stationary bike, the usual recent 10k + 3' CD. Bike/Garmin claim 7.26 miles at 15mph average speed, bike says 93W average. About a quarter of the time was Z3, over 70% Z2, remainder below.

I'm starting to feel like HR response is getting back closer to normal after my very non-normal November/December forced hiatus then intensity limitations, which is reassuring. Resting HR is back to normal, getting decent HR recovery during CD and post workout (usually 20ish bpm in each of those phases), but not sure whether cardiac drift upward over the workout is still up a bit.

BTW, @mtaratoot, I had not power cycled my Garmin watch recently, not since the last required update (couple/few weeks, maybe?), so I did. I haven't had a repeat of the accidentally deleted workouts, but early times yet. Yeah, I worked in IT, and even managed help desk for a while, so I know we tell people to reboot . . . but I also know why we tell them that: Probably 90% of the time it's because we don't have a better idea :D , but sometimes it does work - probably more than the 10%. ;)

    Side lunges
    Squats

Plus a 40 minute walk. Hoping to do strength training twice a week.
