arg lol. 300.4. I guess the 300.8 yesterday was the real number or it is just that I didn't get enough sleep to offset my day. Either way 299 is coming.

After 7 months and 10 days and roughly 90 lbs (87 on the scale). Next goal is 286 for 100 on the scale. Then 275. 260ish is my first end goal and assess. Along the way i've been a big fan of the 10's 380/70/60....

Hi all, I'm still here 🤣 mad week of family crisis but I'm back to some kind of routine. My premium expired and I haven't had an offer yet, its damn expensive.

Well done getting over that line trix, well earned. Inspired me to up my game.

Aim to get back to the gym tomorrow evening and have a week of reasonable and tracked meals.

    Yeah mostly, thanks walkintofit

In UK premium only really adds the macro nutrient tracking and reporting, it does have some daily 'programmes' but they aren't that useful or worth the spend

For me, I think it's as much the investment, I I pay for it, I feel accountability to do something.

It's £60 per year anyway currently, I'm waiting for an offer of 40% or 50%.

Here's a bit of Stoic wisdom for today and an analysis from deepseek

    "
Certainly! Here's a Stoic quote that can inspire energy and motivation:

*"You have power over your mind—not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength."* – Marcus Aurelius

This quote reminds us that our energy and motivation come from within, and by focusing on what we can control—our thoughts, actions, and attitudes—we can tap into an endless source of strength. Let this be a reminder to direct your efforts inward and take charge of your mindset today!
    "

Ive sat here chilling with my coffee, hoping my wife's battery is charged enough that its not flat when I leave work. Nice wedge of time though, warm coffee, zoned out a bit, ready for the day. I'm always rushing into the office. Anyway, off I go, fingers crossed it turns over later.

You have power over your mind - not outside events.

Worth a minute to sit with and turn over. Good inspo, mikey. Love the deepseek addon. AI is a trip, isn't it?

You must be in the cold, too? It's your wife's car battery, I'm guessing? Fingers crossed for her. We've a week of single digit (F) lows here in Maine, and windy too (so bigger wind chills). We had two plow guys pull a no show on Sunday night, so we were snowed and iced in (~10" snow/sleet/freezing rain, a real mess, from Sat night into Sunday night) until a rando plow guy knocked on the door on Monday night and offered a clear for $55. Sure! The second no-show plow dick (my hubby calls them plow dicks, b/c they do whatever they want!) we booked in advance was $278 and change! Sure dude, not only did you make it so we could get out, but you saved us $225! We paid the outrageously high fee b/c the first plow dick never showed after a similar mess of winter precip (not just snow) last Wed into Thu. That stuff is hard to clear out! Frozen and iced stuff is never easy, never mind several inches of it!

I hope they give you a good discount as a welcome back offer, m! I've kept up my logging streak, since first checking in at your thread. I forget how many days behind you I was, I think it was 30 or 60 days behind, not sure.

Damn, that snow for you is no joke, at least it got cleared. We've got some cold, around 0 or -1 but no snow/ice.

Was the car battery, she isn't using it so I brought it to work to give it a run, only just started outside the house, so I was nervous about it starting again after a 30 min run to work. All good though.

Impressive you've been logging all that time, well done, and thanks all for joining me here and listening and joining with my rantings, I haven't made much progress consistently but I've found it really useful as a bit of a journaling session each morning and you have all inspired me to make an effort to log in but also to take change, thanks for that.

I'm not sure I need premium, I do use the macros when I'm training to make sure my proteins are high enough but in reality my day to day challenge is just making healthier choices and I don't need an intense nutrition report for that.

Ive been reflecting a bit on relaxation, my wife has got a bit of paid time off work now to rest and relax and she's finding it hard, she is wired to be on the go constantly (she is Spanish which doesn't help).

She's finding time now to read and zone out with a bit of quiet, no music or YouTube playing. It's harder than it sounds.

My days off are hard, thinking bout the past n wishing hubby was here. Read that the second year is tough, ya it’s different than the first year of grief . No wonder why people pass away from broken heart. Hubby was right that I needed to keep working after he passes away , that made me mad btw , he wasn’t wrong gets me out of the house. This crappy cold gray weather isn’t helping at all

There was something wonky on the boards (with this thread, specifically) last night. I was coming to share more of an update than I usually do, since I was updating a goals tracker in another thread. There were only 4 pages of posts here!

I made the post, but don't see it now. I came back a couple times, one time the thread was back to its current 12 pages, the next time it was back down to 4 pages. I hit 'quote' on my post, and saved it in an open thread, b/c I didn't know where the post would be if the thread once again restored to usual (as it is now :p ).

Anyway! Here's the post, going to click on the arrow once it posts, and see where the link leads. heh.

Here's my update from another thread. I am working on my goals, even if I don't always post up accountability in here!
I journal but only “analog” and only with the beautiful Parker pen my children gave me. I don’t trust a on line journal call me paranoid how can you fully express yourself and feel confident no one will get to it?

Sometimes my entries are thoughts some bullet points. Depends on the day and time but they always have the weather the time and temp of course the date 😂.

Continuing my no or minimal occasional 1/2 and 1/2 in the coffee black with no sugar has allowed me to appreciate the flavors again so clear and pure.

Your comments on journaling really sparked some introspection, snowshoe (as did Tes', below, talking about her hubby reading over her shoulder 📖). I think this is why I've never taken the plunge, even tho I've been 'journal-curious' for a number of years now! Part of why I'm so excited about my Thrive in '25 plans, with my oars, and my Conqueror Virtual Challenges, and my journals, and my logs, and my classes (signed up for a few of those, too 😁), is because they're all tied (mostly) to measurable metrics and activities, and not feelings and thoughts. Tho, I have been toying with the notion of a gratitude journal. It's supposed to be so beneficial to your health and spirit to take up that kind of practice! But ... it's definitely more 'private' material than metrics and activity goals. At least for me. I'm much more reluctant to share my thoughts than my activities. It's just me and hubby in the house now tho. Not siblings and parents, like when I was young, or roommates, like when I was older, or children shortly thereafter ;-).

I can't close without noting your success with your coffee habit add-ins elimination habit. I love the evolution of taste journey your experiencing!

Yay for the weekend! Work this week wasn’t the best with one of my coworkers being let go on Thursday. We were told it was an isolated incident and not the start of company wide layoffs.

@BodyTalking that sounds like an amazing way to learn a language. I need to find someone to help me learn French that way. Only I think they call it dinner in France. 🤣

@snowshoe072 , I basically make sure that anything I write in any journal is something that the husband can read over my shoulder because he does that. 🙄 So my journaling is mostly gratitude. I’m sure it’s good for me. Good job on the transition to black coffee. ☕️

February 4 - 36 grams of fiber! To celebrate, I sang “Day by Day.” Fiber hero - sweet potato
February 5 - 34 grams of fiber! I had a cracker attack and so I had to shuffle my planned meals around in order to stay under calories. Crackers = zero fiber and lot of calories. If I had snacked on nuts, that would have been better. Celebration- huge sigh of relief that I managed it.

    February Meal Planning
    1st - 7th
    🔸👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳🔸
    8th - 14th
    👩‍🍳

A review of the 'extras' I had in the first week of February.
    1 chilli mango margarita,
    Beer,
3 small homemade cakes from a student,
    Cheese and wine,
    More wine
    Cream liqueur,
    1 Cafe latte,
    4 cafe au laits,
    Popcorn,
    Dried fruit & nuts.

Otherwise, it was just 2 or 3 meals per day and drinking tea and water.

The cocktail was after a Mexican meal at a restaurant and the cream liqueur was a gift from one of my husband's friends. I had the popcorn while my hubby was out one night. So, these are not regular things. I have a coffee machine that takes capsules and the cafe au lait ones are nearing the end. I'd normally just have one of these a week, preferring black coffee, but it's there, so I chose it when I was working from home.

I accept that I'll have some kind of homebaking from my student on Tuesdays, that I'll have a cafe latte and wine on Wednesdays with other students, sometimes with cheese, and that I'll have alcoholic drinks at the weekend with my husband.

Other than that, some dried fruit and nuts are my usual extras - just a couple of each.

BT, I felt inspired by your dispassionate, honest assessment of what is going right, and what needs keeping watch on.

02 - 0 9- 25 - No Tiny Celebration today. I thought about stretching my definition of 'journaling' to include food log journaling, but, tho it is journaling, and it does take intention, and introspection, it's not really what I am planning for the year. I don't know if I'll food journal the whole year, and the other kind, it is my intention to develop as an ongoing habit :). So ... I gave myself a 'beginner' badge 🔰 for the days I did food log journal, but didn't journal-journal (either digital, or analog) one of my 'focus oars' for the year :).

Hey! I did finish my first Conqueror Virtual Challenge this week tho! (I've started five of them so far, each tied to one of my focus goals). I finished a shorter one, The Roman Empire: Caesars & Emperors. I had it keyed to my Daily Fitbit Steps, which had been going to a much longer The Silk Road, but I switched to try out a new one b/c the leaders of the Facebook Conqueror Community were doing a Group Community Chat / Challenge, and I wanted to join in. I thought I could learn more about the app that way :).

I've been popping by here each night to read, and I'm inspired by you folks! I used up my energy on snow clearing, cooking, and Racing at Hogwarts, this week tho :p. The Race is over (great fun!), but it's February in Maine, and snow clearing is not. We've got close ~20" of snow depth as of today (10" fell on Sunday night, and that ain't cleared yet! :p), and another foot-and-a-half coming by next Sunday, in four traunches.

    ...

Hello Tiny Habiters! I've been reading, but I haven't updated in a bit. Time to update. I'm still digital, even tho my plan is to move to analog, for most stuff. I was updatin my Goals and Unbreakable Vow Progress for the mid-term (first 4 weeks) of my Hogwarts 8-wk term challenge, and I thought it was past time I made an update. Me and my oars are still rowing along, but I don't really have them all in harmony yet. Def making progress tho! I felt good after going over my 4-wk goals progress in my Hogwarts tracker. I took some screenshots to share, tho I don't know how readable they'll be on phone screens ...

I gave myself beginner badges for my food log journaling, and tick marks for entries in my Word file digital journal (still digital, for now). Today's celebration was to sing "I am a champion" but it's late! I have the Karaoke YouTube and lyrics google tho, I will celebrate tmo ;-).

First 4wks Goals progress spreadsheet tracking. My 5 Main Goals are: Learn Turkish, Increase Greens and Freggies, Monthly Prolon 5-day FMD Fasts, Weight Loss, and Increasing Frequency and Variety of Exercise Workouts. This is my Summary/Assessment of my 1st 4 wks of Goals Progress:

    • Goals Progress Summary / Reflection
      Thoughts? ~

      • Goal #1 - Finish my DuoLingo Turkish Tree. ... Still have 6 units left in Level 3: Traveler; I spent all 4 weeks in Review Mode. Didn't break my streak tho! I kept up my practice, just didn't feel confident enough to push ahead. Sometimes I can't take on board any new verb tenses, and have to hold steady :)

      • Goal #2 - Greens. ...Nailed it! But only barely. If I'd gone up to a Vow of 5 servings of green per week, I'd have missed. HOWEVER, I nailed 'Other Freggies', and did really well on 'Nuts, etc', too! Which might seem like no big deal, but before these challenges, I was as unlikely to eat any freg or nut as I was to eat a green freg ... except for beans. I always liked beans, and ate them whenever they were on offer :)

      • Goal #3 - Fasting. ...Yup! Knocked that out Wk 1 💪. 5-day Prolon FMD.

      • Goal #4 - Weight Loss. Nope! Didn't meet my goal of 1 lb per wk on average. Too many cookies! I did clock an avg loss of 0.55 lbs per week, but did not meet the 1 lb per week goal. The avg loss of 0.55 lbs/wk, tho, did beat my old goal of a half pound/wk weigh loss (from before I backslid after Mom sickness & knee injury, and gained it all back ... )

      • Goal #5 - Exercise. ...I for sure made big strides of progress in this area, I just haven't updated the individual goals here yet, or started my individual focus exercise journals, or checked in on / updated my Conqueror Virtual Challenges yet (other than the leader-led Roman Empire: Caesars & Emperors, 51mi, which I used my Fitbit Daily Steps for, and finished). Some of my Fitbit workouts and activity gets automatically logged to some of my Conqueror Virtual Challenges, but not all of them. I have to update several of them, just haven't sorted it yet.

      • Summary/Overall - Some progress, but not really rowing all oars in harmony yet. Working on it!

Here are some screenshots of my tracking:

    ye9t789ncm94.jpg

    2h4hysyej6hi.png

    r1feeule7zf2.jpg

First 4wks 'Unbreakable Vow' spreadsheet tracking. The 'Unbreakable Vow' comes from the Harry Potter books, and is one of the challenges in the Hogwarts Terms. They are 4-wk vows, one for the first 4 wks, and one for the 2nd four weeks. I've used my Unbreakable Vow Challenges to re-inforce my Goal #2 (Increase Greens and Freggies intake) for the last few terms. This is a serious problem area for me, b/c I would happily never eat another damn freggie ever again, if I wasn't intentional about it 😆.

These are screenshots from my spreadsheet tracker. I was successful in my 'Unbreakable Vow' for the first half of Term 53/Hogwarts:

    0kfqfiuc4cgu.png

    9dvk2e0ryegg.png

And here is a screenshot from my Freggies spreadsheet tracker. I was successful in my 'Unbreakable Vow' for the first half of Term 53/Hogwarts (focusing on the Green Freggies). I also did Extremely Well in 'Other Freggies', and Very Well in 'Nuts, Etc', which, once again, may be misleading in giving the impression these are not an issue for me - they are ;-). I'm just apparently far more resistant to adding any Green Freggies into my diet, than I am to adding any other color Freggies, or Nuts, etc, into my diet 😊:

I have been mulling this over each day, when I come in here. I've put a lot of oars in the water (continuing my oars metaphor, heh), and I've ordered a bunch of journals, each of my new journals to focus on each one of my oars, to keep all my oars all moving together towards our goals (me and the oars, we're a pack, lol), so ... which 'tiny habit' to focus on?! *think ponder mull*

I have decided - my tiny habit will be journaling. In any one of them. They're all undated, I didn't want to (have a bunch of blank pages !), so filling them up will only be traveling on each of their paths. I don't intend to journal everybody every day. So ... everybody has arrived, last team member trickled in last night :D ... but I haven't written in anybody yet. Only have used an electronic journal that I started with a copy/paste from a Terri Richardson post :), and I haven't used that since before our mini spa getaway Jan 6 - Jan 28. Journaling it is! My tiny habit for February (and probably several mos after) will be journaling. I've been 'journal-curious' for several years now, but haven't started.
    • 1. My goal for this month (This February I will...) ... journal.
    • 2. The small, actionable steps I plan to take towards this goal ... will be to open one of my focus journals each day.
    • 3. My reminder or cue to keep up with my habit ... will be this group!
    • 5. My reward for maintaining the habit (anything from a self-compliment to a mark on the calendar) ... following Tes's Tiny Celebrations list 🥳 .
    • 6. How can we support you? ... by being here (love that this group exists!) 💜.
    • 7. What will success look like at the end of February? ... movement in my journals :).

    Your wife sounds lovely! 💕
Yes, you def don't need Premium for MFP. I keep it bc of the food logging, I like having time stamps available, and some other things. But it wouldn't be too much diff without Premium. I mostly come to MFP for the boards, and for the food log.

And thanks for making/continuing your thread. I often read more than post, but there's something unique that you bring to the thread, mikey. It's both motivating, and appealing.

This crappy cold gray weather isn’t helping at all

    sending you gentle support thru the ether, walkin .... ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

PS - I'm glad I copy/pasted a quote from here to the 4-page 'alternate universe thread' - it was the only way I was able to find my way back here and post a response to your recent comments, mikey and walkin.

The link in my notifications keeps taking me to the truncated 4-page version of the thread. lol

How strange re the thread, I hadn't made any changes after I logged in yesterday, I normally navigate here from my profile and 'my posts' as I don't engage that much outside of here.

I love this quote you made

"Me and my oars are still rowing along, but I don't really have them all in harmony yet."

I think that's a feeling we all resonate with often, right goal, boat pointint in the right direction but the oars aren't quite pulling in the right direction.

I also like the way you are more specific about your goals, actions and progress, its definitely got me thinking about accountability, which was the point of this thread way back.

thx, mikey :) and thx, walkin :)

You know, I did bookmark the thread, but I just didn't remember to check bookmarks! I usually navigate the forums using Notifications and My Groups. Thx for the reminder! Today's notification brought me here, instead of to the alternate universe thread, so my world is righting itself heh

The cold snap here is easing a bit, too. It will be above freezing in 2 days, for the first time since last week. Tiny celebrations! :)

An image that reminded me of this thread 💭

Mikey, what is the book you get all those inspirational daily stoic quotes from?

Here's another one :). (I was looking for an image to embed in my spreadsheet, with a link to bring me here, so I don't get lost again 😎).

This one is from a podcast page. The podcast sounds very interesting, but I'm not a member, and didn't listen to it. Just in case, I thought I'd share the link:

Edit: here's a medium page with a list of the 10 best episodes from that podcast (best of '21):

I love that injury one, in another quote, he talks about injury only being relevant or present in the future or the past. If you concentrate on the 'now' there shouldn't be any injury.

Ive got 2 places I get them from, stacked next to my monitor in the office.

The first is 'The Daily Stoic, Ryan Holiday' it's dated and has a Stoic quote and brief analysis every day. I grab it occasionally for a bit of reflection and journaling.

The other is actually 'Meditations, Marcus Aurelius'. It's a collection of his personal journals and full of these quotes, there isn't any analysis, just pages of his quotes. I quite like grabbing this one to skim through a couple to find something relevant. Using the daily stoic to find quotes on the wrong day makes me feel awkward.

Ive been reading a bit of stoicism this year (last year), the 'stoic mindset' can go quite deep and isn't for me, but the quotes from one of the most important men of his time, a general of war and emperor, that he had the same struggles as the rest of us is a reminder that these challenges are universal. I love his reflection on getting up in the Morning and often read that one back.

There are a couple of daily stoic podcasts on Spotify, Ryan Holiday definately does one.

    Marcus Aurelius on the Morning

"On those mornings you struggle with getting up, keep this thought in mind. I am awakening to the work of a human being. Why then am I annoyed that I am going to do what I'm made for, the very things for which I was put into this world?

Or was I made for this, to snuggle under the covers and keep warm? It's so pleasurable. Were you then made for pleasure? In short, to be coddled or to exert yourself?"

    -Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 5.1

Being in between worlds of slumber and wakefulness is a pleasure. Getting up and going forth is a challenge. Going out into the world first thing makes me feel like a conqueror.
what gets me me is the ever present cloak of grief that surrounds my soul.

I'm so sorry for you walkintofit.

Going out into the world first thing makes me feel like a conqueror.

Those are some of the most inspirational words I've read and will stay with me. I'm glad you are here with me/us to share the journey.

Each of us has our own path, sometimes we get to connect along the way. You each touch my life to enrich it a little bit more.
Keep up the good fight and keep on moving. Need to evict a little bit more lard. Scale moved .2 downward.

    Downward is good, consistent progress.

Ive been using mu family crisis as an unspoken excuse to avoid getting back to the gym but I'll get there. Big thing in work tomorrow, maybe I'll do the opposite of my normal approach and wrap it up by getting in the gym.

Always used to think, these times in work when you are worried and stressed, they pass, and usually pass quite well and without incident. I try and hold on to that and remember I'll look back at it and remember how stressed and worried I was.

Ive been spending more time reading over the weekend and this week. I can be a bit choosy and judgemental but I'm realising that it's good just to read, escape to a fictional world with fictional people and follow that journey.

I did read a bit of the court of ruin series, a friend suggested I try it as I'm a big fan of fantasy novels. It's a bit 'twighlight' not particularly well written, but its a really interesting world that I don't mind exploring. I read an article a few days ago that made me laugh, describing it as 'fairy porn'. 🤣

Ive also been reading Orbital by Samantha Harvey, only short, about a group of astronauts on a space station, really good read and some really awesome inspiring prose about earth from space and the affect on the human body.

Anyway, its a good escape reading, it can be as hard as going to the gym to find the time to just switch off and read.

I read a small info thing about a guy named Victor Frankl, he is a psychologist, , neurologist, he survived the holocaust and wrote several books. he said the ones to survive the horror was the ones that had a purpose. One of the examples a man came into the room that several men where in, and said there was a beautiful sunset, and the ones likely to survive their living conditions was the ones that went outside to see the sunset. this man wrote several books and speeches. one is Man's Search for Meaning.
one of the quotes "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms-to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's way."

with this I am changing my attitude one thought at a time, look at the sunset, choose good food, move my body in some form.

Hello everyone my name is Jared. First I want to say that this is an amazing community and i'm really proud of you guys for staying accountable in this thread. I am a 5'10, 23 year old male, and I would like to start posting on this thread about twice a week to start.

I started my fitness journey seriously about a month and a half ago. I've seen this group back then but never posted because I wanted to build the habit of tracking via MFP and also using a food scale (Which I have done!), however even so I wish I'd started posting on this thread sooner for accountability. I feel i've made progress as I no longer binge eat as much but I am still working through that. When I first began I weighed about 220 LBS. My goal is to get to 190 LBS with 15% body fat. At the moment I am going to the gym 3x a week hitting push, legs, pull. I don't have a body weight scale right now so buying one is next on the docket for me, I will be weighing in daily (this is what i'll be accountable to for tomorrow's post). Thank you guys and I look forward to seeing everyone's progress over the coming weeks!

Welcome Jared, although I am 66 yo and 6'2", we are close to the same initial weights and goals. I started back on a nutrition and fitness plan in the fall. I was at 218 initially, and now I am down to 190, with 185 being my goal weight. I do weight HIIT M-W-F, and cardio T-T-S, with Sunday being my free day. My fitness level has improved dramatically, with my BioAge currently at 46 yo. For me, the binge eating is a lot easier to control when I am accurately tracking my caloric intake. It has also been very helpful for me with accountability to work with a nutritionist and a personal trainer. Good luck with your fitness journey!
