I mean, I love me a good sammie too, walkin' ;-). My current fave is Trader Joe's yummy bread, toasted, with Dusseldorf style mustard, roast turkey, provolone or muenster, and half an apple, cut. Apple IN the sandwich, ofc !

    What's your favorite sammie?

Welcome to the blog Jon, yes, I believe that tracking caloric intake on a consistent basis goes a long way to achieving success with ones nutrition and weight goals. I also do not count my calories burned via activity as it often leads to weight gain.

A green smoothie is my 'go to' lately to get the healthy stuff in my tummy, and I plan my week to have it 4 times. It has lots of green everything, and even the green tops on the strawberries (who knew you can eat those!?!?), but I use very little fruit - often no fruit - because I need to keep carbs and fruit sugars waaaaay down.

At first it was hard for me to drink it, but now I surprisingly miss it on days I don't have one. I might add a pinch of seeds (ex. chia seeds, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds) or a sprinkle of cinnamon and/or unsweetened cocoa (I got that list of stuff from a gut biome Master Class I liked a lot), a spoonful of plain yogurt occasionally, but it is mainly comprised of all things green - celery leaves, green salad stuff (I have a lot chopped and frozen - kale, collards, spinach, swiss chard, dandelions, bok choy, etc), herbs, spring mix salad, or whatever I have on hand. I don't use any powders or supplements based on my doctor's recommendations.

Also, I make the smoothie SMALL so it's only about one cup to drink because to be honest it is NOT a "juicer" drink, meaning it is full of plant fiber and NOT a "smooth smoothie". A suprisingly large amount of green stuff blends down to make one cup of smoothie. My friend has a Vitamix that really pulverizes her green smoothie ingredients, but I'm just using an old Nutribullet I have had for a long time which makes my green smoothies not very smooth. I'm mostly used to it, but maybe a Vitamix will be on my Christmas list this year.

p.s. I have a ton of greens because I had bought a 'share' from a local organic farm, a health-minded friend split the cost with me to save money, and there were so many wonderful veggies each week - many I didn't know about and never would have even bought at the store. I froze a lot because it was more than I could eat in one week. For me, weekly farm veggies are over for the summertime, because I'm in Florida and the veggie growing season ended already. We wear flip flops here, and our gardening season is flip flopped. The farm share will start back up in the autumn for us, but anyone living not as far south as me might still have time to get a local organic farm share for this summer if they are committed to having more veggies - it sure kept me on track for half a year!

I put photos from my yesterday outside workout, and my last week one, in another thread yesterday. I'll add them here too :) Photos from 'Vacationland!' aka the US state of Maine, up in the northeast corner of the map, borders the US state of New Hamphire, the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick, and the Atlantic Ocean. It's said to be cut from Scotland, back when all the land masses were one. I'm not sure about that, tho, when I googled it, it looks like Maine nestes in next to Morroco, not Scotland! Anyway, the locals here always play up a Scotland Maine connection ;-). I've never been to Scotland, so couldn't say!

Scotland first (from an article), Maine after (from outside walks in the last couple weeks :). )

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Local article about the Scotland-Maine similarities, from a few yrs back:

Why Scotland Is More Like Maine Than You May Think

    By Xander, Jan 9, 2018

Hey CYY freaks! I'm finally back from a much needed two weeks of vacation. I did everything from snowmobiling over a glacier north of Reykjavik to watching the New Year's fireworks get shot off of Edinburgh castle. It was pretty spectacular, I must say, however, I couldn't help but notice that both Iceland and Scotland had some pretty big similarities to Maine - especially Scotland. Here's what I observed:

The South is More Populous Than the NorthJust like Maine, the bulk of Scotland's population resides in the south of the country. The cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh make up for much of the whole country's population, with smaller cities like St. Andrews and Inverness scattered throughout the Highlands. Scotland's mountainous north also reminded me somewhat of Northern Maine, albeit a little more spectacular.

The Locals are Tapped into NatureSpeaking of the natural beauty of Scotland, the Scots are well aware of the amazing resources available to them, and take full advantage. A big part of life in Maine revolves around nature, and so too in Scotland. Much of the nation's tourism revolving around taking a look at the dense forests and rolling glens up north. Scots also have an amazing law that gives them what's called the Right to Roam - the right to explore and camp anywhere in Scotland, regardless of who owns the property they're camping on, so long as they're not deemed bothersome.

Everyone's Really NiceI hate to cast any sort of wide blanket, but I think I'll be forgiven if it's a positive one. Just like Mainers, the Scots are a warm and welcoming bunch, who all seem chipper to have visitors from other places wandering around. Everyone was always ready with directions, restaurant recommendations and more, which has always been something that I loved about Maine.

Fort Williams is Our Very Own Run Down Castle

Scattered all over Scotland is a collection of amazing castles - some are still in use, but most are mainly tourist destinations at this point. For example, Doune Castle, pictured below, is open to explore, and gives me some serious Fort Williams vibes. Fun Fact: Doune Castle is also where much of Monty Python and the Holy Grail was shot!

Edinburgh Has It's Very Own Old Port

Although it doesn't quite have the same Northeast feel that Portland's Old Port has, Edinburgh has it's own cobblestone-laden downtown area. The Royal Mile stretches through the center of town, and plays host to a number of shops and 'closes' - tiny streets from the olden days of the city. Victoria Street is a must-visit place when you visit - it was JK Rowling's inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter series! Plus, to top it off, the Royal Mile ends at the front gate of Edinburgh Castle... Portland might have some great sights, but I don't think the Old Port can beat that.

One thing I noted that was opposite of Mainers, however, was the Scots' resilience during the winter months. I heard a few Scots complaining about the winter weather, which in Scotland averages out to the low 40s in fahrenheit. They should try the winter we're having here on for size.

Scotland is a truly amazing place. If you ever get the chance, go and visit - you won't be disappointed. Now, back to radio, viral videos and bad jokes!

mkksemail, beutiful Maine! thank you for the pictures! I probably won't make it out to the other side of the country, but this makes me want to travel! One of the gals on a team we compete with lives in Portland Maine.

the scale moved a tich downward. Losing is going super slow. Its rather discouraging. I need to manage the roaring beast of hunger.
what are u putting into the green drink? I usually make a salad. I have a lot of dandilions in the yard.. I used to make wine out of the flowers. the leaves were bitter to me.

@walkintofit Slow weight loss is good, and sustainable over the long haul, even if it is only a pound a week, it is still heading in the right direction. It didn't take just a few months to gain the weight, and it isn't a failure to lose it slowly either, even 1/2 pound a week is 26 pounds in a year!

I agree with inter, walkin', slow weight loss is good weight loss ! Congrats on moving ur scale! 🥳

Kathy puts everything in her green drinks, it sounds like. I was interested in the bit where she chopped up and froze her greens in smaller portions. What a great idea! I bought a crate of smoothies and juices last winter, they all came frozen (Raw Generation and Raw Fountain). You could also alternatively make big batches, and freeze them in smaller portions, too :).

    Kathy's green smoothie recipe:

I'm thinking my weight loss is half that. Still ok, loss is a loss.
Did a thing yesterday, I went on a 5k race. First one I have ever logged/done. I usually work when they happen so I did my own. I called it wogging. lol, walk/jogging. So cool to finally do a 5k.

getting yard work done, took 2 days to irrigate the lawn, someone kept stealing the water! Not that it was my day to water cause I am on the drain ditch. Other parts of town can only water on certain days. One more day to work then my 2 days off. thinking i def need a rest day. Getting sore from everything I am doing. My workout yesterday after work was putting old boards into the dumpster. I had been taking the dumpster to the wood pile and trashing them. This time I would pack the boards to the dumpster to get in a lift/carry/walk in. Do that several times workout one and done!

I skipped my weekend 36hr fast again this weekend as I am still having challenges maintaining my weight and lost another pound over the past week. I was able to maintained a balanced diet, and kept somewhat active with the limitations of my shoulder. I am starting back on the bike this week and I am going to start swimming twice a week as part of my rehab. I am still running a little under my goal weight, however, I am still within a healthy range. Have a great week everyone!

mkksmail, here we have irrigation ditches which are fed from canals, canals are fed from reservoirs. Its the only way to have water besides pumping from the ground. If you are watering from the ditch and a person up the line from u uses it while you are , we call it stealing the water.

the dumpster is on wheels, it holds several regular trash can size bags from the house. If it is full I cant hardly move it, you have to tip it a little to move it and its fallen on me a couple times as I had it over loaded. its around 4 ft tall and big as a wash machine.

the scale moved downward again! yay! I usually gain during the summer but I'm liking this. The hard part is deciding the weight to land at.

8 lbs to go, size 1 gallon milk, too bad the weight is dropping so slow now. I used to drop weight fast but I know age and menopause has changed a lot. sorry kinda bitchn about it but I will take whatever loss I can . I know I need to work on logging all my food.
went for a nice walk after the work picnic, it was nice but got way too hot. glad I had a hat and a water bottle.

Eight lbs to go is FANTASTIC !!! The last pounds go the slowest, or so I've heard. Not made it there myself yet :).

    Anyway, ci! ~

Big achievement milestone on my weights circuits! The trainer at PF put together an Upper Body/Core circuit, and a Lower Body circuit for me, back in February. They all started at 40 lbs, except for the Hamstring Curl machine, which I could only do at 30 lbs without the pulldown of the weights with my legs causing my booty to scoot all the way forward on the seat of the machine :p. WELL, I've been intermittently drifting between 40lbs and 50lbs for almost all them, for the last couple mos, but yesterday I noticed, hey, these are really easy to do! I moved up to 60 lbs on all of them (and could have gone higher on a couple!), except for the Hamstring Curl (I maaaybe could have gone up to 40 lbs, but wasn't sure, so stuck with 30 lbs), and the Seated Leg Press, on which I started at 60 lbs, but after only 1 rep moved up to 80 lbs ! Look at that, my legs ARE getting stronger, even if my knees feel no different :).

It was cold yesterday, and rainy/overcast Sat, Sun, and Mon. Sun is out again today, and it's about 10F warmer, so … yay !

    Cheers~!

Oh! on my PT exercises - I just made this post in another group:

So-so week, in terms of checkboxes and weigh-ins, but feeling super uplifted, positive, and motivated, and feeling like my results aren't the full picture. They'll catch up with me, I'm sure! :D

Not sure why I never downloaded the MedBridgeGo app for my PT exercises (been doing them since Feb), but for whatever reason I downloaded it this rainy weekend, for my phone, and also logged in on my laptop. On my phone, all my exercises (12 of them) show up on 1 screen, as a playlist, so I took a screenshot of the playlist, and now I have an easier-to-glance at snapshot of the exercises, instead of flipping 8x11 page printouts. I like it better that way. The playlist is short vids for all the exercises. It says 23-min routine - hah! I never finish in under 45 minutes, now that the exercises are up to 12. I think the play list time is for just one leg, but other than squats, and the supine bridge, all of them have to be done 2 sets each, on each leg. Double legs, double time, that's the only thing I can figure :p.

I also, this rainy weekend, made a separate exercise tracker for the first time, instead of just having the exercise sesh's & daily step counts on my fitbit, or tracking Quidditch minutes at Hogwarts. Having a dedicated tracker really helped me with my freggie intake, I think having a dedicated tracker will also help me with my exercises - especially adding in flex and strength, which has been a 'goal' for 3 yrs now, but more like a notion of an idea of a possibility of an aspirational kind of sort of goal, rather than an actual achievable goal ;-). I guess I really just like geek trackers! 🤣

Anyway! feeling super positive, tho my Week 5 results don't actually support that ;-). On to Week 6 !!

    Cheers, ~ mk :)

Hi All. I’m new here, but thought I’d join. I could use some accountability. I am trying for low-carb eating and intermittent fasting. It works pretty well for a bit, then stops, so I get frustrated then I don’t eat right. Right now I’m trying to recover from the prep for a colonoscopy. The prep tells you to eat nothing of any nutritional value for five days, so now I’m trying to get back on track. I had a solid breakfast this morning, but it involves two eggs so I’m already over my cholesterol for the day. There’s always something! Trying to stay on track for the day — one at a time.

  • Interbeing

@comptonjh429 I eat two boiled eggs every morning and have found them to be an excellent source of protein, and they contain all the essential amino acids in the right ratios, so your body is well-equipped to make full use of the protein in them. In fact, eggs are pretty much the perfect food. They contain a little bit of almost every nutrient you need. Eggs are also a good dietary source of choline, which is used to build cell membranes, and they contain lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidants that have major benefits for eye health.

A single large boiled egg contains:

    • Vitamin A: 8% of the DV (daily value)
    • Folate: 6% of the DV
    • Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5): 14% of the DV
    • Vitamin B12: 23% of the DV
    • Riboflavin (vitamin B2): 20% of the DV
    • Phosphorus: 7% of the DV
    • Selenium: 28% of the DV
    • Eggs also contain decent amounts of vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin B6, calcium and zinc

This comes with 78 calories, 6 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fat.

Before changing my diet to low carb, which includes avoiding processed foods and sugars, my cholesterol levels were quite elevated. Since then my levels have dropped substantially, without any medications and eggs have been a big part of my diet, I normally consume 2 to 3 eggs a day.

I love boiled eggs in the Morning, so full of nutrients and great for feeling full. I just never get round to prepping them. I'm still rocking my tub of oats with protein and chia, I just use boiling water when I get to the office.

Sorry I've been out of the loop for a while, was a busy couple of weeks in the run up to a holiday, then two weeks in Cyprus. Loved it, great food and drinks, a much needed reset. Been a while since we had a good summer beach holiday.

I did bring back a little Cyprus coffee pot and some ground coffee. I love it, so strong and its quite zen spending 10 mins or so heating it up on the stove. A lovely little super strong espresso type coffee.

My new favourite is Baklava but I'm on a hiatus due to overdoing it during holidays 🤣 so much syrup and pistachio, but so, so good. 🤣

My wife has embarked on one of the jabs which is great, I'm trying to change my diet and approach to support and doing quite well so far. I'm still using chronometer to track and count calories, the reporting and insight is so much more useful without paying for the MFP premium to get access to the additional macro info.
