I live in So Cal & grew up going to the beach. I've never lived more than a half hour away from it, so it's hard for me to imagine what it would be like to see it for the first time. I love the ocean, but I would take the mountains over the beach any time!

When I lived in California, I would go to the ocean every weekend. My spirit is the ocean and I hate living so far away from it now. :(

Yes, I live off the coast of Charleston, SC on an island. I walk nearly every day on the beach. It's beautiful. Very different from the New England coast where I grew up, which was also beautiful

I am originally from Summerville, I miss home!

I live on Vancouver Island, on the west coast of Canada and we are surrounded by ocean. My ticker is the view from my deck and it is the most calming image (yes, that is snow which we rarely ever get here on the coast).

I have been in the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and all of the Great Lakes.

    Great Lakes are oceans??

No, but the sunset on Lake Michigan looks like an ocean, it so large you cannot see the other coast! Its truely lovely.

Ive seen the Atlantic, the Pacific, the Carribean, and the Mediteranean. My dream house would be on a big lake...not the ocean, but a big freshwater lake, like Coeur d'Alene, or Pend Oreille. I dont even need beachfront...just to be able to see the water every day would be heaven.

I probably live about three hours from a passable ocean view, but never saw it until high school. Even now it's more likely for me to see the ocean when I go to LA than it is for me to make it down to the Texas coastline.

I saw the ocean for the first time in Hawaii in 2010 (I was 20 years old). That was the first and last time I have seen it. I live in Illinois, so the only thing we have around here are lakes and rivers. I can't wait to see the ocean again. After I graduate college in December of this year, I plan on making another trip back to Hawaii. I am hoping to have reached my weight loss goal then as well, so that I can celebrate college graduation and meeting my weight loss goal!
  • Yes, I have. I lived in an island for almost ten years. Our house was near the beach. We used to watched the sun set on the beach and I loved it. Those were nostalgic moments.

I am in awe of the Great Lakes everytime I fly over one... I don't understand why they are not considered seas

I live on the ocean in Miami. I can see it now out my back door. It is awesome. Although Iam afraid of sharks, so I dont like to swim in it, just boating or get my feet wet.

I grew up in southern California so all my summers were spent at the beach...even when we moved to central ca and the mountains, I was still only a few hours from the coast.

because seas are saltwater. the great lakes are fresh water.

I've been in the ocean off of florida.. But I agree, the sunset/sunrise over Lake Superior is amazing
  • I grew up on an island (19 years), but here on the prairies I talk to people all the time that have never been. It blows my mind because I couldn't imagine never experiencing the ocean. I find that both the eerie calm and raw chaotic power of the ocean to be very soothing.

Watching the world wake up at sunrise ....sitting on driftwood at a rocky beach with the wind, herons, eagles, and sea gulls: no where I'd rather be.
