I would love some advice, as I've tried to follow the suggestions from all reputable sources and still cannot get the scale to budge. I'm female, 5'6", 44 years old. From age 16 to 28 I weighed 130 pounds. Started weight lifting regularly when I got married and immediately put on 10 pounds of what I assume was muscle, since my clothes still fit. Stayed 140 for the next 10 years. Hit perimenopause, got put on the pill, and within 3 months was up another 10-15 pounds, plus up a bra and cup size ha ha. Have been stuck at 155 - 158 now for the last five years and cannot get it to budge for anything. Was briefly down to 148 when I was able to walk 3 miles a day on top of my usual cardio and weights, but things have changed where I cannot spend 2 and a half hours a day exercising, which obviously was the only thing keeping the weight off since I went right back up when I had to cut back on the exercising, even though my eating has stayed the same. I lift weights 3 times a week and do cardio 6 days a week. VERY frustrated at the lack of progress. Experimented starting in February with bumping up my calories from MFP's recommended 1350 to 1500, and now my stomach doesn't growl all night but I still have a damned annoying belly roll and the scale hasn't moved, so I don't think that was the answer...
"Eat less and exercise more" is not working for me - any suggestions??0 -

Hi Nate, Im 47 y.o. 5'4, 168 lbs. My ideal would be about 145. But even when I was that, no matter what I did, i carried a pouch in my belly. Previously working out a year ago, wasnt paying attention to my intake, thus wasnt losing. Now I am.
My questions are:
1. I love elipitcal, is there any "upper body/core" cardio I can do? I am thinking Zumba but not very coordinated. Anything else?
2. Is it true not to start strength training till some of this core fat is off?
3. Not meeting my vitamin or calorie rec intake everyday. Can you look over my food too? (Minus the wine on valentines day that is)...0 -

Hi! I'm doing OK, but I want to ask a question for my friend who is not on myfitnesspal: How do you put on weight if you have a crazy fast metabolism? My friend is a 20-year-old guy who eats a lot, but is still rail thin. He's started lifting and has actually lost weight. Short of eating a bucket of lard, how can he reach normal weight? Thank you!0

Ok...seems like youre crazy busy but I have a question. Four weeks of tracking and exercising close to 6x/week. Lost only 2.6#, and the .6# was over THREE weeks! You can look at my diary (I think) Suggestions? Am I overlooking something obvoius? I just upped my goal from losing 1.5#/wk, to just 1#/wk loss. Figured maybe I need more calories? Thanks!!0

Thank you for helping everyone!
My biggest question is: How do I get rid of the batwings so I can see my triceps? I do cardio kickboxing 2x a week with some strength training. I also spin a couple times a week. Now that I have lost 46 lbs and counting, I want to be able to do the punches in the studio without the back of my arms waving to the instructor! LOL
Thanks,

Hi Nate,
This is very kind of you, and I hope you're not feeling totally overwhelmed already?! I wondered if you had any tips to make walking more effective? I have a somewhat insane life, and exercise has to fit into my schedule in a productive way ie. it has to actually get me somewhere - I cannot make time for a dedicated 'work out' unless I stop sleeping, so I use my commute to exercise. I lost weight steadily for the first three months, and easily lost the few pounds I put back on over Christmas, but I now seem to be stuck, and have been at the same weight since early January (though I do still seem to be losing inches).
Various people have suggested I change my exercise routine, but that's not feasible at a basic level, so I wondered if there are any ways I can increase the efficiency of what I am doing? Most days, I walk all or part of the way home from work - a minimum of at least 30mins at an average speed of between 3.2 and 3.8 miles/hour, according to my pedometer, burning a minimum of 220 cals (if I have time to walk the whole distance, this is usually closer to 50 mins and 350-400 cals). I usually carry a load of 2-5 kg, by the time I have my handbag and papers, though I don't factor this into my calorie burn. I had thought of cycling, but my commute involves some very busy roads and the cyclist death rate in this city is a bit too scary for me!
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.0 -

Nate, hi hope you can help me. I'm 31 5'4 148 lbs. I've been doing p90 x for about 7 weeks. Before that 3 weeks of insanity. Was too insane for me lol. So I'm a little bummed because I've only lost 1 lb in almost 5 weeks. I keep changing my caloric intake it was 1350 then changed it to 1500 then to 1200 now I'm gonna try 1800. What's your take on how many net calories you should have left after exercise. A lot of people say never go below 1200... what else can I do to get better results? Thanks0
