How the heck do you eat COTTAGE CHEESE?!

I used to eat cottage cheese ALL THE TIME when I was younger & then I grew not to like it. I decided to try it again about 1 month ago and now I have it at least once a day, I do think it is a taste & texture that people either like or hate. Actually, I had a dream that I was eating it & liked it, thats what sparked my curiousity to give it another shot, some 15 years later or so lol.
I have found that small curd is much easier to eat. I haven't tried fruit in it, but I have put crushed up saltines in there to help with the texture of the curds (plus it helps me get my carbs since I am ALWAYS short on those).0 -
I LOVE cottage cheese. I only eat with plain or with tomatoe slices and with salt and pepper!
I have never had it with fruit and I don't think I could do it....bleh! I guess it's all how you were raised. My mom and grandparents always used salt and pepper.
We also like a little salt on watermelon and canteloupe! Oh, and grapefruit!
Yepp I was raised the same way lol. I heard that some people make their cottage cheese sweet once on the internet and I decided to give it a try and I actually ended up liking it. I also freezed a little and it was kind of like ice cream. Lumpy ice cream lol.0 -
Okay, most people think this is gross, but I eat it with pork & beans, mixing the 2 together.
Here lately, I've been using it in tuna salad, basically replacing mayo with a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese instead. It's really yummy!0 -
cottage cheese is yummyyyyyyy , but I'm partial to salty foods .0

There are huge differences in the taste of various kinds of cottage cheese. A lot of it will be your personal preference.
I don't particularly like the taste of milkfat, so I like nonfat cottage cheese. Other people will like creamed cottage cheese. Large curd or small curd will affect the curd-to-cream ratio, so it will change your perception of the taste.
Since I'm not trying to reproduce the full-fat experience, I stay away from products light Light and Lively that try to substitute with chemical thickeners. Plain old curds is fine with me, and it's solid protein. I prefer Breakstone's, that is pretty much just cottage cheese.
Freshness is very important. If all you've had of cottage cheese was a litttle round scoop in a cafeteria, you've tasted the worst of it.
You can cook with nonfat cottage cheese like other cheeses, such as in lasagne, or in crepes or enchiladas.0 -
Nobody actually eats COTTAGE CHEESE - you buy it, put it in the fridge and then bin it when it's out of date
LOL. Funny!0 -
I can honestly say I have never tried cottage cheese... it just looks weird. But I do love Greek yogurt. Maybe I should try it.0

I use a spoon or fork. I add sunflower seeds some times or fruit like pineapple. I like it with a few fish crackers too as a treat.0

I say it belongs in the trash!! I knew a person with a vaginal infection that described her secretions as Cottage Cheese....sooooo no thanks!! Barf o Rama!!0

i'm not a big cottage cheese fan, but it works great in lasagna. Every once in a while I can also tolerate it with some applesauce mixed in.0

I use cottage cheese to make a high protein vanilla cheesecake smoothie. You can't taste the cottage cheese, it gets completely smooth and this creation tastes just like cake batter in your cup!0

mmm, cottage cheese with pepper on top of crackers! Yummm! I also love it with mashed potatos! Or just plain0
-
I'm not that fond of eating it with a spoon, but it works well as a spread - like you would use cream cheese. Look for "smooth" cottage cheese, it's less confronting to start with.
I like it on whole grain crackers (like Ryvita) topped with tomato and black pepper.0 -
On a slice of bread, or crackers like Ryvita - with slices of tomato - and lots of pepper - yum!!0
-
For sure it is an acquired taste! I prefer the small curd. I sprinkle a tiny amount of cinnamon on it and add fresh strawberries or peaches. Its actually pretty good!0

Me.. sometimes when I'm bored and not hungry, I get a spoonful right out of the container.
it's yummy.
but it's really good with pineapple or peaches.0 -
I love cottage cheese, I eat it with a spoon and a few cracks of pepper on it.0

OOh, thank you for the reminder! I used to hate cottage cheese as a young-un. Especially with fruit (I am in the minority on that one, I know). But now I like it, all on it's own. Loving the idea of putting it on the baked potato though0
-
Maybe its just a consistency thing with me, but I just cant eat that stuff...but I am not a yogurt fan either.0
-
I know, we're a weird bunch ... I like it too ... actually some fresh preserves mixed in is pretty yummy too ...0
-
I love it with pineapple rather than by itself. It's so good! They have 100 calorie packs with cottage cheese and pineapple, too.0

I'm a cheese-hater so the odd time I buy it for the sake of protein it's to make Strawberry Cheesecake Smoothies. 1/2 cup ff low sodium cc, 1/2 cup 1% milk, 1 cup strawberries, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract and 2 packets of sweetener = awesomeness!
Nutrition: 204 cals, 342mg sodium, 1g fat, 30g carbs, 20g protein, 6g fiber
Here's my photo;
That sounds (and looks) amazing! Definitely trying that..thank you!0 -
I love it, but I find the low fat kind to be a little thin, so I add a tiny bit of low fat greek yogurt and it makes it taste just like the full fat kind! I like mine on the side of a salad, or sometimes I'll put it in a bowl with salsa and I will dip celery sticks or red pepper strips in it. Sounds weird but it's delish!0
-
I just threw up in my mouth lol!0
-
I eat the small curd with pineapples or pears mostly. Occasionally I will get it with pepper. I have a friend that eats it with pepper and ketchup, but I am not bold enough to try that yet.0

REPOST - a high protein vanilla cheesecake smoothie recipe
Wow! I made a high protein vanilla cheesecake smoothie tonight. It tastes like cake batter. So delicious!!!
Here's the ingredients and you can easily modify as you like.
1 cup cottage cheese
1 cup nonfat milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
2 tablespoons sugar free cheesecake pudding mix
tsp. vanilla extract
6 ice cubes stevia or whichever sugar substitute you like and add to taste.
Toss it all in a blender and mix until smooth and thickens.
Don't worry, the cottage cheese gets all smooth and gives it a cheesecake cake batter taste. This recipe packs 60 grams of protein and about 400 calories. Super yummy and you stay very full.0
