Greek Yogart - how do you eat this stuff?!?

So yesterday I picked up some greek yogurt to try a recipe out. Basically it was just a cup of yogurt, a scoop of vanilla protein powder and cocoa power mixed together.

It looked good but it tasted gross...I decided to "spice it up" a bit by pouring some of my favorite cereal into it. That made it bare-able to eat but still not something that I would want to eat again.

So my question is, how do you make this stuff taste good? I was hoping I could turn it into some kind of high protein dessert dish.

with fruit and/or flax or chia seed. If no fruit, I have to put like 1/4 packet of splenda in there. Lot of people do honey..

but cinnamon and nuts are a good way to kill the taste a bit, granola if you like the crunch. Polaner makes sugar free jams and preserves at 5 cals per tablespoon. So i've been doing a tbls of blackberry preserves in 1 cup of yogurt. You'll get used to the taste lol

I love Chobani's plain non fat greek yogurt. There is 23g of protein in a cup! I mix it with Kashi Go Lean cereal (13g protein) I also add greek yogurt to my smoothies with my protein powder along with a banana.

I think you should experiment with different brands, too. Buy the single-serving cups until you find one you like.

I don't like it plain, but with a little PB and cereal mixed in?

It's also a nice sub for sour cream -- you might like it better this way.

I eat it plain. It's nom nom nomlicious.

Sometimes i'll put in some cinnamon. But it's good for you, and my health and fitness is tastier than fat.

I am not sure what brand you are buying but I think you dislike the tart taste. I like Oikos and Fage because they are thick and tart. But, Trader Joe's brand is thinner and much less tart. I think that might appeal to you. Splenda is a good idea too.

I like it with F-Factor Skinnies cereal with berries. It is high protein and high fiber and it keeps me full.

I put some Kashi GoLean Crunch at the bottom of a small bowl, sprinkle a little bit of sugar in the greek yogurt and stir it (you don't need a whole lot, it's not gonna kill ya) then top the cereal with the yogurt and add fresh or frozen strawberries or raspberries. It's freakin' good and looks so cute.

I would also like to know which brand you tried. I've been thinking about switching over from my beloved Yoplait light(strawberry and very cherry are my faves). I know the Greek version is better for me, but I've heard friends talk about the taste, so I've been hesitant.

For anyone: What brand would you recommend, knowing how much I love, love, love the above mentioned regular yogurts? I don't mind the tart taste, but it has to taste good or it will waste away in my fridge. ;)

Dude... Chobani black cherry with fruit on the bottom, hands down. It is effing amazing. And it is way better for you. Lots of good protein and cultures. And it tastes so dang good. Arghgh I want to roll in some right now.

... but like I said, if you're wanting to go plain and dazzle it up, get Oikos plain greek, add Kashi GoLean crunch, mix a little sugar into the yogurt, and top with fresh or frozen fruit. So so good.

mmm... love Danone Oikos 0% Plain with some sugar-free raspberry jam and a bit of granola mixed in... I let it sit in the fridge for an hour+ so the flavors blend... yummy!

I like it with Stevia and true lemon, frozen blueberries. Or some SF Lemon jello pudding dry mix and blueberries. Or reduced sugar (not faux sugar) jam -- I've been partial to a brand thats 25 cal a tablespoon at costco, can't remember the name. It doesn't say 'reduced sugar', but it is.

Note: I HATED greek yogurt the first few times I tried it. But then I made a concerted effort to wean myself off of the pre-flavored stuff, get down to plain yogurt where I was adding my own flavorings. Suddenly, it didn't seem so tart. Now I even like tart frozen yogurt, which I use to despise. And plain frozen kefir 'ice cream', which has a really nice fresh and tart taste.

Also, I've yet to come up with a chocolate mix of my own that I've really liked in greek yogurt. Sprinkles, yeah, but mixing cocoa in just doesn't do it for me. I go for citrus flavors first, usually with berries. Lemon is certainly a fav.

If it was for a protein drink, I'd still be dosing it heavily with lemon, probably frozen blueberries. I think I'm in a rut with that... heh.

You don't. You can only camouflage the texture and taste.

I mix it with peanut butter and chia seeds. If you want it sweeter, add a little maple syrup.

If you don't like it, you don't have to eat it.

I eat mine with honey or fruit. It's delicious like that.

Here's a good dessert recipe with greek yogurt. http://www.ingredientsinc.net/2010/10/banana-bread-with-greek-yogurt/ I ususally use whole wheat or almond flour and agave in place of the sugar. My husband loves it...has no idea it is healthier for him:)

It's kind of an acquired taste I think. I didn't really love it at first but kept eating it and now I wouldn't touch regular yogurt. I love Chobani vanilla. I'm still not a fan of the plain stuff but it is a good substitute for sour cream.
