A quick check in before bed, tomorrow is a busy day with family parties.
My husband and I completed the 5K, we ran together and finished in 31:32, not what I was hoping for, that was 45 seconds longer than my first 5K back in September.:ohwell:
The weather was great, but the overcast made the run really, really dark in some spots and hard to see the trails, then in other spots with the lights, it was so bright that it took a few minutes for your eyes to adjust...felt like you were running with your eyes closed at times! When I first started I even tripped over a speed bump....I must not of been the only one, because on the second lap around, there was a person out with a flashlight warning that there was a bump... , it was a fun time spent with my husband and I believe on Monday they will have the times posted and I can see how I did compared to other runners my age. I have to say that I felt a lot better this time during the whole race. I can tell I'm getting stronger, I was surprised that our time wasn't a little better, at the half way point we were at 13:48 and I thought WOW, we are doing great....then we did the second lap and finished the 31:32, so we slowed down that second half....something to build from....overall a great expierence:bigsmile:
..I'm so hooked and I just can't believe that I love to run this way.....I was a smoker on and off for over 20 years, I quit again for the 6th time over 2 years ago now and I now also run....I never would of dreamed that I could accomplish this.
Thanks for listening and encouraging me ...have a great weekend...I'll post when I can.

Yay! Debra! Way to go! I am sooo glad you did it. Awesome!

Missou, one of my cousin sailed in a 35 ft sailboat from the Hudson River (she was living in NY at the time) to the Bahamas and then to Puerto Rico. While there, she lived in the small island of Culebra all of Fall and Winter and then sail back to NYC for the Spring and Summer. By the end of the Summer, closer to Fall, they sailed back. She did this with her old boyfriend for 4 yrs. They lived on that boat for yrs. She is a real free spirit. And ofcourse the family talked about her like she's crazy for doing that but she was living in the moment and there's alot to say about that.

    Good morning ladies!!!
she was living in the moment and there's a lot to say about that.

    I totally agree!!!

Congradulations Debra for your run. Just doing it is a lot!!!

It is cold in Montreal and I miss the sun!!! Yesterday, Hubby went to pick up my cycling-rowing machine. We've put it together and I tried it... I really like it. It will be a good workout for my legs and my knee. I still need to lose a few pounds before Christmas to reach my goal and I need to hop back on the saddle. My neck feels a little better today, but it is not perfect :grumble: I'll talk about it with Hubby.

Have a nice day everyone and have a good weekend!!!

Congrats on the run Debra. I cant wait to run a 5K. I think your time was great - esp for a dark, winter run.

missou - do you need any computer work done? I am thinking that we could trade husbands for a few days - I could really use those massages. (Computer programmer for massage therapist) I don't think your crazy - you should enjoy life while your younger, Too many people wait for things, then some medical complication or death makes it so they never get to achieve their goals. Keep on cruising.

itsbella - wow - you had quite a workout. Keep up the great work.

snowflakes - virtual high fives to you for getting under 200. YEAH.

I had a great day yesterday - I saw 7 clients, dropped by my house to pick up DH, and then spent the evening at mom's. We worked out while she had lasagna cooking. Then a nice family evening. I even managed to stay within in my maintenance calorie range and that included 2 glasses of wine  It was kind of funny when she said, we have been working so hard that I decided not to make a desert. We had more than enough food without it. I told her the wine was my desert.

    Ladies,

Just checking and and saying you are all an inspiration to me.

This is a very busy time of year for all of us and I have been up to my eyeballs in preparations! I homeschool the three that are still at home and we have been super busy trying to finish up before break, my mother who lives with us was sick with a stomach virus (praying we all stay clear of that!) and we help at a local mission. This week was organizing the toy giveaway. It is an amazing thing to see. Buffalo is the second poorest city in the US and there are almost 800 families being served by the toy giveaway this year. For 6 straight hours the other day my daughters and I made up stockings for teen girls and teen boys. It was fun but tiring.

When I have days like that I have no real way to monitor excercise or calories. I eat what the mission provides and how do you measure calories when you are standing and light walking?? I tried to check it out and a website said that for my weight I would have burned an extra 20 calories every 10 minutes just for standing instead of sitting...well that would have been an extra 720 calories...yikes that seemed so high!!!

I was logging on to say that you may not hear too much from me for the next couple of weeks with Christmas and then out of town family coming in. Come the New Year I will be faithful again but I am giving myself this time off.

Kids home...one Santa believer still left (such fun!), family coming here for Christmas dinner. (BTW...love the clementine idea!!!)

    Way to go everyone!

Debra I think it is amazing that you did that run!
Pinbotchick, take the melting butter pattern and run with it!!!!! As you get closer to your goal it may be harder but enjoy this part right now!!

Missou, I am so happy to hear that you had a good time and hope that your appts go well.

Itsabella...I love the free spirit part...maybe because I feel quite connected!

    Hi there friends!!!

Pinbotchick, I already had the medical issues and thank God I still can enjoy life. My eldest doesn't want to come because she beleives I am making a huge financial mistake. She beleives I should take care of my floor and the other things that are on stand by in the house. I wonder if she had a talk with my mother-in-law... :grumble: I have been juged by that family since the very beginning, if my daughter is to join their clan... Hubby could easily take care of most of the work in the house if not all of it. He is just lazy. Should I spend all my money on people to do that work?? I prefer to enjoy what I have and wait for Hubby to wake up. I know it will hapen some day, I just don't know when    As for my daughter, it is her loss. If she prefers to juge than to go on vacation, what can I do??

Deedee, we'll be waiting for you. Thanks to you and your daughters, 20 kids will have a happy Christmas. What you did is beautiful. Enjoy your holidays!!!

Missou, a wise woman told me once that our children learn 95% from body language and the rest, 5% from what we tell them. You are teaching your daughter and the rest of your family to -put oneself first- before work, house, material things. They just don't know that you prefer to live instead of waiting to live.

If I had money to decide whether to remodel my house or go to Italy...the decision will be extremely easy! Italy here I come!

I had to stop living for so long so that the girls could do some skating or because of the pain in my body. I still have to be careful not to overdo it, but, for now, life is good to me. Maybe my daughter will understand it someday... Who knows???

Thanks for your kind words Itsbella, I'll talk with Hubby, maybe he can make her understand.

Oh my gosh ladies...just got home from our first of many Christmas parties.....I hope I did well, I started with 2 fruit bowls, and stuck to just the tablespoons of the higher calorie goodies....but I shared a few cookies with the grandkids and then also had some cheesecake, and never fit in the exercise for today....so I better hit it pretty hard tomorrow. It was a rain/snow mix today all day, really brought the Chrstmas season! Hope you are all enjoying family and friends, I'm beat and off to bed. Talk with everyone tomorrow!

    Hi gals,

Wow this took me a few minutes to get through the posts tonight. Glad everyone is doing well and involved in celebrating the season.

makeitallsue: I am so impressed that you could run the whole course. Congratulations on quiting smoking you must feel great with all you are accomplishing. Keep up the good work..

missou: That would be upsetting to me to have conflict because of what family says about the way I spend my time and my money, making my memories. I like the saying "you can pick your friends but not your relatives". hee hee I have a brother that the only vacations he takes is cruises. He goes on 3-4 cruises a year.

pinbotchick: Thanks for words of encouragement. I have 2 pounds yet to loose to get under 200. Hopefully by New Years.

deedee: That is a wonderful service to help those in your area that are in need. I love to do things like that too.

We spent the day skiing and it was terrific, fabulous, wondrous, BLISS! Any questions? ha ha Tomorrow is church in the AM and another Christmas gathering in the PM. I'll be checking in on Monday. Take Care.

Good Morning to all you wonderful ladies! It is a snowy morning for me here in CT.

Soooo a few cookies with grandkids...it's not like it was sharing crack! If you have time today, workout hard. This was me a couple of days ago.

My husband came home yesterday with cookies from Bishops a reaaaally good place for baked goods, I had one. I asked him to take them to work because I don't want them in the house. He started to laugh and say that it's not that big of a deal. I asked him if I were a heroin addict, would you bring me heroin? He still doesn't get it. I know that I get myself some cookies myself and send mixed messages but I think he's unknowingly trying to sabatoge my efforts towards the race!! He left the cookies home and I threw them out! Way toooo many calories!

He's doing the half too and his goal is to keep up with me since I told him that my goal was to finish at 2.10...he's got the competitive streak in him since he was a jock in highschool. I have never been an athlete only in my heart since my parents were oldfashioned. This half is for ME! I want it for ME, for the athlete in me that's been trying to come out and it's here now. I am doing the half without any distractions from him or anyone else. I don't think he's aware of what he's doing because he sees this half as competition with a contender...ME!. Well, I have news for him and his little jock too!! I'm going to leave them in the dust!! I mean business!

And he's such a good guy and supportive in so many ways....I just think I'm bumping against his ego!
  • Wow, wow, wow!
This is amazing. Just the thing I am looking for. I just found this fantastic site, and now to see a forum of powerful 40+women who know what they want and how to get it is like an answered prayer.

I am a 42 year old certified massage therapist living in Ne Pennsylvania. I am married to my HS sweetheart for 23 years and have a son, also 23. (you draw your own conclusions there....) We have 3, yup count'em, 3 big, dopey dogs who we spoil terribly.

I'm looking for something sweet and simple. Calories in ,calories out- I get it! I go to exercise classes about 2x a week but I am a bit of a home video workout addict. I ran my first 5K in June, and have since been babying a sore hip that has prevented me from signing up for another. But I'm gonna!

That's it from me, I guess. I look forward to meeting all of you and hope to contribute at least a smile to the postings.

    Peace!

    Hi Fran! Welcome :flowerforyou:

You HAVE come to the right place! We are POWERFUL, we are STRONG and so you BELONG!!
The thread is a bit slow since the holidays and life gets in the way but we tend to come and check in with each other pretty regularly.

Guess who ended up eating the cookies??? Yup, lover boy!!!!!

Welcome Fran :flowerforyou: I look forward to getting to know you. Missou is married to a massage therapist and I am a physical therapist. Feel free to join in any discussions or start your own.

itsbella - it does sound like your husband is trying to sabotage you. Great job for throwing the temptations out. A friend gave us a bunch of baked goods and I told my husband to take them to work or pitch them - he is planning to take them in tomorrow. I hope you leave him in the dust during the run... Is he actually training too or just planning to run it?

Hope everyone else had a great weekend. It was in the 20s here and I had a wonderful time snow shoeing. Boy - does that burn calories and get your heart rate up. I also worked out for 45 min during a Christmas movie that I recorded from the Hallmark channel - I am a sap for sweet love stories. I found a Betty Crocker iphone app that has great recipes with nutritional information - I made turkey ratatouille (only 225 cal/serving) with brown rice for dinner and zucchini fries... My husband even loved it. I will have to have a snack later - I need more calories with all my working out today...

Pinbot- my husband is training too. He ran a half this October in 2.45, his first. He was planning on doing another one fall of next yr. Anyhow, I threw out my pack of cookies and he ate his! Anyhow, he did clear off a ton of snow off my car before I went out! But the competition is on! hee hee!
  • Thanks for the welcomes!
Pinbot- I snowshoed last year with a friend of mine and thought how crazy great it was to be sweating and still see your breath because it was so cold! I thought about buying some snowshoes for hubby and myself last year, but since it was the end of the season, I let it slide. Drat! Wished I remembered that when buying presents this year. I wonder how fast Santa can get here from LL Bean land?

Bella- are you running a marathon?! I thnk I mentioned I had run my first 5K last June. I really want to do another one in the spring to benefit the shelter for domestic violence in our area. But a 5k is only 3.3 miles. Anything over that and my lungs and I start to disagree mightliy. :ohwell:

Logged in all my food and found I was short on protein. Protein? Really? How the heck to you snack on protein? My other totals are in range. Any ideas?

Have a sweet dreams kind of night. And thanks again for the welcome.

I snack on cottage cheese, nuts and beans. I am always way over on protein :blushing: I made a homemade mix of walnuts, almonds, peanuts, raisins and dried cranberries. I weighed it all, added up calories and then divided to get a per ounce calorie. Now, I just weigh out an ounce or two as snack in the evening. I found this worked better than trying to find a store brand without the added salt and other chemicals. Good luck bringing up your protein level.

Good evening Ladies, Boy do I feel behind...way to many parties, but lots of good laughs ( I hope that burns calories...I know it's the best medicine:laugh: )with family and friends. I haven't counted calories all weekend:sad: and the exercise has just been clearing the path to the car:laugh: , well, I did have a little fun dancing with the grandkids and playing some pool and shuffle board with my son, today I got lazy and we watched movies. First thing tomorrow, it's a tough, kick my butt workout and If I don't post about it sometime....please someone get after me!!

Itsbella...way to go , throw out those cookies and beat the boy!!  ....my husband didn't have a chance to train for our 5k and he got a little cocky, the day of the race saying he "could probably just walk fast and keep up with me", he meant it in good fun, I let it slide but I had a big ole smile on my face when he was complaining of calf cramps on Saturday.....hmmm, maybe he should of at least stretched when I asked him to, before and after the race?!?

Pinbot, when you posted your snack mix before I tried it...great idea and I love the freedom of choosing my favorites...you had me take another look at some that I was buying, you were so right about the salt. I need to be careful about that!

Welcome Fran and Kathy, looking forward to getting to know you both!!

Well ladies I made it:drinker: :drinker: . I got everything cooked:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: , it was all great. We made it through the party. Then we went to go to the graduation and the traffic was so backed up we were 20 min. late:grumble: :grumble: . But we made it anyway. Of course she had to be their an hour early thank goodness. We came in during the American Anthom. But it was great, I didn't know I was going to cry:cry: , but I did. When they called my baby girls name for Department of Public Administration, Bachelor of Science in Emergency Administration and Planning I just started crying:cry::cry: . I was so Happy:cry::happy:  . Now she's trying to go in the Army, for geospace something or going onto Masters school in OK. She made a 93 on her test for Armed Services but she has to get a waiver for her eyes. So we'll see, her recrewter told her she might have to go National Guard for 6 months then transfer over to the Army. Like I said we'll see. I gained a few pounds again, but I'll lose it again. Not to worried I'm still in the 160's.

Welcome to all new and even those who may just read our post. Someday maybe you'll join in too. I'm so proud of eveyone.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: . Just remember we have each other and yes we are strong, and we will continue to be strong together.

This morning, I am at 156.2.... I did have to empty myself without eating and with clear drinks yesterday because of a medical exam this morning. I wonder if the 156 will stick... I guess not with Christmas just around the corner

I don't think I will do much exercise today, then again, I could surprise myself  We will see how it goes

    Lady Power!

We had a GREAT weekend around here.

Missou: hope all is well today. I understand the remedy to clear you out is a dandy, does the job like non other.:noway:  Enjoy the lighter feeling, hopefully it will stay.

booboogroom: Congratulations on your daughters graduation, what a wonderful moment to be the proud mother!:flowerforyou:
Love that you posted a sign on your door. Really some people... :grumble: anyway, I work hard at trying NOT to get sick. Wishing you good health!

fransfit and Kathy1966: Welcome! You will find some fun banter in this group and great support for your personal goals. Wishing you well in your journey.

itsbella: Way to be DETERMIMEND. You are doing great. And for your man it is good for them to eat a little 'humble pie' don't you think. You show him girl. It feels like there will be some serious competition with a bit of butt kickin' victory in your camp. Thanks for your inspiration.:drinker:

I enjoyed the first Christmas treats last night of some yummy breads. I was over 200 calories at the end of tallying the day. To me this is a huge accomplishment from what my serving would have been even 6 months ago. With Christmas being Friday I feel very confident that I will continue to loss through the New Years. My original plan when I started logging in September was that I hope to maintain and not gain through the holidays. And here I have lost! That goal weight is coming by August 2010!

Wow!!! a lot has been said since my post on Saturday morning!! Since I was a little out of it, I did not take the time to read nor to respond to anything. My colonoscopy and my gastroscopy gave me very setisfying results. Nothing is wrong so far!!!

After the exam, I had a burger made with lean meat and a lot of veggies. For dinner, I had some pasta. I am now at 158.8... I have a feeling that the weight is going to stay down if I start doing my training again. For that reason and since I feel my energy coming back, I will go do some bicycling after this message.

I would like to welcome Fransfit and Kathy to our beautifull family. Make yourselves at home. We are here to help each other acquire a new lifestyle!!!

Way to go on the cookies Itsbella!!! I wish you all the success possible with your man!

Unlike you Boubou, I haven't even started my Christmas cooking. I will have to get into it tomorrow, I'll try to make healthy appetisers and healthy desserts if that is possible

It is my turn to get into the Christmas feeling... Our tree is not even decorated!!! :noway: :noway:

The next week, I will be quite busy with the last minute cooking and the parties. My daughters are coming home on the 24th for the evening and on the 26th for a brunch. On the 25th, it will be my in-laws' Christmas party and on the 27th, my mother is having us over for a lunch party. During the next week, probably on January 2nd, I will have a diner party with some friends and on the 1st, my in-laws are having another fiesta... If we can call it a fiesta

I will come and see you from time to time. Take care and have fun during this festive time!!!

    Cheers!!! :flowerforyou:
