  • I make homemade Larabars. They're much cheaper than store bought and taste better, imo. I'll also make banana nut bread using almond flour. But almond flour pancakes are my favorite.
  • As a Type 1 Diabetic, 41g of carbs is too high for one meal.
  • I've lived with chronic pain in both feet due to a crush injury for 24 years. I found yoga helps. Have you tried that?
  • Yes colder weather causes problems as well as high humidity and temps in the 80s causing pain for me.
  • Not so much the sauce and oils, but to cook over high heat and not to cook very long or the veggies will get soft. For oils I've used coconut oil, olive oil, ghee, & avocado oil with great results. Sauces: coconut aminos, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, etc. along with herbs & spices.
  • I do hope that you stick with Paleo as it's more of a change in lifestyle than a "diet." Despite how much it is criticized, it works for people hoping to make healthier choices in their meal planning. You'll lose weight especially with keeping carbs low but I suggest aiming for 1800 calories. Do you plan to exercise as…
  • ^Thanks :) Currently at 8 months and healing is now at a snail's pace. Pain every day whenever I place weight on the foot but I still manage to keep moving and stay in shape. I really do miss my bike especially with spring in the air.
  • You have internal bleeding somewhere. Since you're having difficulty with BM's, that blood could have originated either in your stomach or colon. If you didn't have BM difficulties, black stools usually originate in the stomach, meaning there's a bleeding ulcer. Even though you had a brown stool one day doesn't mean you…
  • Challenge to myself is to get through all the surgeries this year so I can possibly ride my bike in 2015. My original goal was to try to ride this year but too much pain and swelling in right foot from last year's surgeries prevents me from doing so.
  • I usually exercise heavy 1 hour after lunch. Then after the workout, I eat another meal consisting of a homemade larabar, hard-boiled egg, and a protein powder mixed in water. Yes new info is coming out how Splenda isn't as healthy as it's made out to be. You could try coconut sugar. I use the Madhava brand: 1 teaspoon= 15…

  • I used for XP for 12 years and intend to get that much life out of Windows 7.
  • I love zoodles and make it often. I use an OXO hand-held julienne peeler. If I have a lot to do, then I'll use a Swissmar mandoline slicer. The hand-held is nice because the zoodles are always the right size and thickness. With the mandoline and changing the blades, they're either too thin or too thick. If you're worried…
  • I've been dealing with chronic pain in both feet since I was 19. I'm 42 now so I'm not young but I was very young when I got it. It was the result of a work accident where both feet were crushed by a 5000 lb generator. I'm actually still recovering from yet another reconstructive surgery to my right foot I had in July last…
  • Sardines would have bones but not oysters. Unsure about anchovies. The bones are small enough to chew and are a great source for calcium. Canned salmon is also great for protein as well as omega-3s. I just eat them out of the can or add egg and homemade mayo to it. Then mix with greens.
  • For fiction, my favorite author is Frank Peretti. His writing blends in the unseen and the supernatural. I wish he wrote more because he comes out with a book about every 5 years. Favorite books include: The Oath, Prophet, Monster, and Illusion. Ted Dekker's earlier novels are great. Again, he writes about the supernatural…
  • I'm currently recovering from reconstructive foot surgery due to a work accident. The work accident left me with two badly scarred feet as well as difficulties with walking and standing for even short periods of time as well as chronic pain. I've had numerous surgeries (22 to the right and 15 to the left) and currently…
  • Coconut butter and cashew butter. But I rarely ever have coconut butter because it doesn't last long after popping that lid ...
  • Thank you. My younger sister is special needs and I hate that word. I literally cringe when I hear someone say it or even read it.
  • I stopped playing GW2 1 month after launch. Boring, imo, and very limited in weapon skills as they are tied to a specific weapon. So to those playing now, has Anet introduced new weapon skills? Back at beta and launch, guilds were the big thing (unsure how it is now) but here was a great site dedicated to GW2 guilds. Looks…
  • I now make the apple pie Larabars since it's cheaper and the calories including macros overall, are less per serving. I even dehydrate the apples (love my food dehydrator). What are other homemade Paleo-type bars? @Dragonwolf, I do apologize that we've strayed off-topic.
  • Wow, carbs at 5%. That's great :) Currently I'm 15% to 20% carbs primarily from veggies. The focus on veggies is to ensure I get enough nutrients such as potassium. I did a 3-week Whole 30 after Thanksgiving with a goal to reduce the consumption of fruit. The only fruit I have right now is from homemade apple pie Larabars…
  • Interesting we both went Paleo the same month and year :) Two of my co-workers are type 2 diabetics and they saw the results with me. They're still the same and overweight. Plus both are close to retirement and I've told each numerous times, "Do you want to enjoy your retirement with or without health complications?" It's…
  • I'll speak from experience here and you can pass this on to your father in law. I'm a Type 1 diabetic (insulin dependent). For years I struggled to control my diabetes along with my weight. At my worst, I was using about 160 units of fast acting insulin and 70 units of long lasting per day and my blood sugars were still…
  • Here's a good explanation of the glycemic index: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=faq&dbid=32 Concentrate on eating more nutrient dense veggies and fruit but try to stay away from potatoes since they're higher on the glycemic index scale. Caution on grains since many contain gluten.
  • I don't believe in evolution. So I disregard the theory behind it. I changed my eating habits to control my diabetes. It was only 3 months later when a friend said the way I was eating was "Paleo." Nowadays I call it Paleo or low carb. If I get questioned further, I can go into detail without referring to the evolution…
  • I've always been interested in kelp noodles but unsure where to buy them. I've tried Miracle Noodles and they're ok. This isn't necessarily "pho," but it's a very tasty Vietnamese noodle recipe from the MIracle Noodles website. I've just adapted it so here's my version. I've used thin zucchini noodles as well as spaghetti…
  • I use an electrode gel to help with the transmission. I apply the gel to the strap and then wet the skin. No more problems. This is what I use: Parker Spectra 360 Electrode Gel. The tube sells for less than $6 on Amazon and goes a long way.
