Running and FAI
I was diagnosed by x-ray about two months ago with mixed FAI (femoral acetabular impingement) in my right hip, along with slight hip dysplasia (too deep). I've always had funky hips, but the pain didn't start until after my early twenties, and didn't become intense or long lasting until the last year or so. I started…

Spice my quinoa!!
I'm making a pistachio crusted chicken breast tonight with quinoa as a side. I'd like it with a bit of flavor. As far as supplies go, I have most of the basic spices, along with cream of chicken (??). I'm just not sure what to do with it. Suggestion please!

Anxiety = Neck Pain
I went to the doctor today for persistent neck pain that causes severe headaches. Last week, during a particularly rough day anxiety-wise, I promised myself that at the upcoming appointment I would mention the issues that I'm having. In the past, I haven't spoken to a doctor about said issues; it's so easy to blow them off…

vo2 max test questions
Short Version - Why did I get a higher burn when I entered in a new, higher VO2 max on my hrm? Long Version - I have a Polar RS300X. When I purchased it back in April, I did the vo2 max test, with a result of 35. Since it's been a bit, I decided to retest this morning, and got the result of 55. I entered that into the user…

Climbing Wall
I really want to take a class at my gym for rock climbing. The thing is, I just don't have much upper body strength. I've been working on it for six months now, and I'm up to 50-60 pounds on most upper body exercises, although triceps and biceps are stubbornly stuck at 40 pounds. My legs are strong, and I can do my body…

How to pick out a head of lettuce?
Just over six years ago, when my then-fiance shared our decision to marry with his parents, his mother turned to me with an aghast expression and said "You? Do you even know how to pick out a head of lettuce?" My reply "Uhh...Find the one that's not brown?" Now these days, I know her better, and since I do enjoy a good…

Minimalist Running Shoes vs Plantar Fasciitis
Will it ever be possible for me to transition to minimalist running? I adore running barefoot, but the pain it causes is unbearable. I was hoping it would go away as I lost weight, but I'm down to 180 and it's still causes inflammation that feels akin to my heel being made up of crushed glass. Without shoes, I never heel…

Changing focus from cardio to strength, advice please!
I'm starting to become more interested in weight lifting. With the summer coming up, I'd like to see more toning and less flab in my arms and back. I still have 20-30 pounds until my goal weight. Currently, I am 5'8, 184 pounds, with a larger body frame. Will it stall my weight loss if I start lifting more than my current…

Aerobics with a head cold?
I feel sick as a dog. All I want to do is lay down and sleep. I missed my workout yesterday because of this cold, and the day before because of Saturday's busy schedule. So I also feel like a lazy bum. I normally do 35 minutes of an aerobics video, this is week 2 of getting back in shape so nothing incredibly intense but…

Not sure I see the difference 30 pounds down
I took a second set of progress pics today. These are the first real pics I have to compare to, the ones of the left at 217, and the ones on the right at 187. I know my inches are different, and I feel different, but I really don't see the difference in the pics. I was really hoping to notice a huge difference, as my…

Before a run, greek yogurt or power bagel?
I'm hoping to get the best out of my run this morning, and I'm not sure which is a better choice. I still have 90 minutes before I drop the kids off, so a good amount of time to digest. So do I go for my B.B. Bakery Energy Bar, basically a bagel bar packed with apples, raisins, and walnuts (216 cal, 37 carbs, 8 protien)…

Countertop safe fruit?
This is silly, but I really hate cold fruit. Aside from bananas, what is safe for me to leave on the countertop as opposed to refrigeration? I'm not too worried about it over-ripening, as I have two little girls that love fruit. I'm just drawing a blank as to what is safe. Thanks!!

What kind of beard trimmer do you use?
To the manly men of this forum (and the manly women, or the womanly men, I don't discriminate) I'm using you all for help in finding the right holiday gifts. I need one that plugs in and has adjustable lengths. Doesn't need to shave, he says that's what a razor is for.

Time to punch a new hole in my belt...
Just excited and wanted to share. I've been using this same belt for about 2 years now, as it's high quality leather and more forgiving than any other belts (when I say punch a new hole, I actually mean drill, lols). I've lost 6 inches off of my hips since I got this belt, and had to drill two new holes in it previously.…

To My Fellow Composters, a question
I finally went through my tea cabinet, and sure enough, 9 our of my 12 boxes were waaay past the use by date. They are all celestial seasonings tea bags, so no string, stables, or tags. Can I put these in my compost pile? I do have plans to use this compost in a garden in the spring. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Steamer and Rice cooker recommendations?
Hi all. Much to my sadness, my rival automatic steamer and rice cooker (that we bought in 1993) bit the dust this morning. It's had a good long life, full of happiness for all that have used it, but now it's moved on to a different place now. I'm looking for a new one please. I think my budget caps out at $50, since I plan…

Favorite equipement at the gym?
I've started to notice that I do much better on a particular treadmill, one special elliptical, and one of the bikes, even though there are other ones exactly the same right next to them. Just wondering if anyone else has a favorite, and why. Silly thread, but hey, I'm feeling chatty :)

Caffeine
Can someone please explain to me why it is bad? And in what amounts? I workout/feel/function so much better when I get my caffeine for the day. Not a whole lot, but probably 3-4 cups of coffee worth. I don't get headaches without it, but I'm kind of cranky and have no motivation. I hate to sounds like an idiot, but what is…
