How do I recover from a significant weight gain?
Two years ago, I ran my first half marathon and was down 42lbs... I gained 20lbs back and then lost it again to run a marathon last summer. I have now gained 30lbs... meaning I am only down by 12lbs from where I was 2 years ago. I know I need to pick myself up now and just get busy... Please, encourage. I need it.

Coming back from an injury
Hey MFP family! I have been away for a long time due to a severe injury to my left ankle. I was playing basketball and my sister fell onto my ankle. I have to be honest, I can't remember the last time I felt pain like that. Anyway, it's been a long winter, starting on crutches and then graduating to a cane for the last…

Being Real
I haven't seen the scale move at all in the last few weeks and I was becoming so discouraged. "But I'm doing everything right!" Said I. "The science of my body has failed me." The greatest benefit of logging everything is that one can go back to weeks past to see if there are patterns that may be influencing weight-loss…

Acu Hoopers: recommendation needed
I am considering the purchase of a 3lb acu hoop and I would like your input. Thanks.

Sometimes hard work does not pay off
So I have worked my butt off this week: working out every day and eating well-balanced and nutritious meals. And I didn't lose squat. Nothing. I am so bummed. I have been on a really great trend, losing 11lbs in the last four weeks (like I said, working really hard at this), so this feels like a HUGE defeat. I even ran…

I still feel 30lbs fatter
Just need some good old encouragement. About a year and a half ago, I took five months and lost 40lbs. Woot for me. Then I moved, got a new job, and watched my best friend die of leukemia in October. I guess all of the late nights in the hospital and the long hours took their toll, because I gained 20lbs back. Well, I've…

Newbie Running a Marathon--advice?
I have done several half marathons and I am ready to tackle the big one. I'd love some advice from all of you seasoned pros, like things you wish you'd known during your training for that first 26 mile stretch. Thank you for any responses!

Need advice: the blister
Dear Friends, I had a large blister on my foot this morning from breaking in a new pair of shoes. I'm getting ready for a 1/2 marathon in April and a full marathon in July, so I really can't afford to take a few days off. I taped up my blister all safe and sound and went for 6 miles on the mill at an easy pace. I now have…

Gained--life stinks--what now?
Dear MFP family, I have not been active at all for the last five months. In that time, I finished a degree, broke up with my boyfriend, moved, started a new career, and my best friend died. I finally got back on the scale today. Says I've gained 14lbs. Now, it's possible that some of that is bloating, but I am pretty…

Final forty lbs
We can to it. I know we can. I know that I can.

The Return of Pixie
Dear MFPers, I have been away for some time, but I am returned now. The summer just got away from me: I finished my master's thesis (got the degree), ran my first half-marathon (2:11.01), and survived the fattening food of a 12-day family reunion. The last of the fam leaves early friday morning, so it's back on the scale…

I am getting a divorce
I have been in a very unhealthy relationship for over 12 years. He has abused my self-esteem, jerked me around, given me cold and hard numbers when I needed something more. So I finally did it. I said no more... I said: "Scale, I will be ruled by you no more!" He is now demoted from his prominent place in my get-healthy…

gained
It's only 2lbs in a week... But it made me very sad. I eat about 1450cal a day. I burn between 500-600cals a day I don't eat enough good stuff (like veggies) So I know what I'm doing wrong. It just still made me sad. And I still have so far to go.

objectified at the gym (rant)
Dear members of MFP, I have never posted a rant/soap-box post, but today at the gym I got so frustrated and I thought this might be a good place to let off some steam. My gym has several very large tv screens at the front of the room with a variety of channels playing at all times. The cardio equipment is facing in the…

Muscle spasms SOS
Dear MFP'ers This last week of running has been like week one all over again. My calves are killing me! and for the first time ever I had to stop running yesterday because of a muscle cramp and not 'I am out of breath and exhausted'. My calves are killing me. I could use some good tips on overcoming this annoyance. Thanks.…

Ice-bath after exercise.
So I have my leg up to my knee submerged in ice and cold water after a hard run today... my toes are killing me... and my heal... it is really, really, REALLY cold! care to share your ice-after-exercise-experiences with me to help the next 20 minutes go by...

Does anyone plan on taking a day off?
I have been thinking that the first day of Aunt Flow should be my 'day off,' but I wanted to know what other people do/did, especially those with some success at weight loss. I don't want to go crazy or anything, just eat food that I might not eat otherwise (like a crepe, maybe a slice of pizza, or a pb&j).…

feeling nauseous during and after cardio
So my PT tells me that it's lactic acid being released by my muscles and I shouldn't worry. So I'm not "worried", but it's becoming a very frustrating issue (one I didn't use to deal with, btw). :explode: I get about 1.5 miles into my run, and suddenly I feel like I'm going to lose my dinner, except I hadn't eaten yet.…

Hey Everyone, Pixiestick is FAT!!!...
I'm no longer "obese" according to the MFP BMI scale!!! I never thought that I would be so happy to see my weight in the "over" category, but it feels so good!  :drinker:   :noway:       :blushing: :blushing:  :blushing:

jump rope, anyone?
I used to be a master at jump rope... when I was about eleven years old. Used to spend the whole afternoon with my friends making up complicated jump routines-- I've heard some buzz lately about jump rope and how it is so good for you and burns all these calories and I am wondering: any jumpers out there? Advise? Love it,…

I love yoga... BUT
I look ridiculous when I try to do 90% of the poses! Any experienced yoga gurus out there with some words of 'deep, inward' inspiration? :embarassed: Better yet, techniques for improving flexibility and stability so I don't make my poor fat bottom look any more embarrassing than it already is. :blushing:

under the wagon
I had a bad day yesterday and I am feeling pretty lame today. I don't even know where to begin counting my calories. I would have been fine, but I didn't feel so good in the morning so I didn't make it to the gym. My friends have been pressuring me to not be so "psycho" about what I eat, and later that day they challenged…

I've heard about starvation mode...
...but I can burn almost 600cals in an hour and 1800cals in a day seems like WAY TOO much. :noway: Those of you who have successfully lost weight, do you find that it really only works if you eat those calories? My fitness trainer told me that I should never eat more than 1400cals, regardless of how hard I'm working in the…

I just want to eat chocolate
So I have been really good for 2 1/2 weeks. Eating right, exercising well. Then I find out today that a) my paper that I have been writing this last month (and is due on Monday) has already been published (someone thought of it in 1997) and b) my mother can't come visit me for the Easter holidays. :frown: …

lost the vision
dear MFP family, I went home from school for Christmas break and although I have not crashed and burned, I definitely skid to a deafening hault and I think I smell smoke. The point is that I am feeling really low. And I have such a long way to go. Anyway, I've been trying to crawl out for a week so that my first post of…

Food for thought ... ?
Dear Venerable Members of MFP: I am desperately trying to kick my caffeine addiction. It is not healthful and it's eating a hole in my budget. Also, since I quit eating processed sugar like it was life's bread, I am finding it hard to jump-start my late-night study sessions. Any suggestions on good, energizing food that…
