Just checking in quickly today.
Yesterday was Norway's national holiday when lots of people wear folk dress from their home district. Every element of the costume is standardized, cloth pattern, cut, embroidery, purse, belt, jewelry, shawl, hat and so on. Some districts "allow" two or even three different colors. For example the blue one from Trøndelag can also use green or red cloth.
If you recognize where a "bunad" is from, you say so, and if you don't, you can ask and the owner will be proud to tell you. These costumes cost a fortune--even if you sew them yourself--but most people have them made to order, and then wear them for the rest of their lives. Girls often get their folk dress as a confirmation present, so you can imagine how often they get a bit tight over the years. :noway:
Blue version of the dress from Trøndelag - about a third of the way north along the Norwegian coast. I haven't been able to figure out where the dress on the right is from.
Red version of the folk dress from Tromsø (the vest can also be ochre yellow but the skirt is always brown and black and the apron always white and charcoal. Behind the young lady with the cornet is a woman in Østfold costume. Østfold is in southeastern Norway, along the Swedish border. This woman is also in the next picture.
Embroidery on the back of the dress from Østfold.
Folk dress from West Telemark - southern Norway.
All these pictures are from the Green Room where my choir was waiting before going on stage for the May 17 gala concert. Enjoy!

ADDED LATER: If you want to see the ten most popular Norwegian folk costumes (for women) check out this website. http://www.vg.no/spesial/2017/bunader/ You can zoom in on each costume and look at it from all angles.12 -

DJ ... I had a speeding ticket about 3 years ago ... went to court and made a plea deal. Paid a fine, agreed to go to a driving class and NO points on license. I sat for 4 hours in a room with mostly teenagers who could have cared less that they were there. The teacher seemingly rambled non-stop for all 4 hours and really I, as well as the others in the room, wondered if he was quite right in the head. But you know what? He was using a bit of psychology on us ... to this day I can remember nearly everything he spoke about!
Pip ... the photo of Floyd just made me smile ...
Making a concerted effort to stay on my plan while I'm getting increasingly overwhelmed with all I need to do around here and a lack of funds to do them. I just keep telling myself ... one thing at a time.

Have a quick minute so here I am
Skipped exercising today and sat on my deck in the sun for 45 min. I know, I know, bad me. I have olive skin and used to bake all day with baby oil (even on face). Paying a little for it now so I put a 55 on my face and let the rest of me cook just a little every now and then. Then I use the Jergens lotion with a tint in it to keep a little color. It makes me happy!!
Yvonne - I love museums! I would always choose them over any other site to see any where I have been. Right now I am watching "Secrets of the Museum" on travel channel.
Penny - love the pictures of the costumes and the history lesson!
Meg - my mom had mumps when I was a teenager. She was so sick! In fact it is the only time I remember my mom being sick. My dad had an executive from Scotland visiting and had invited him to dinner at out house (first and only time I remember that happening) so I helped mom struggle through dinner prep and then she went to bed. I played hostess. As far as I know the gentleman didn't catch the mumps!
Heather - sounds like you are at peace with your decision. Making lemons into lemonade as the saying goes!
Lisa - How ironic or provident that the only girl scout cookies that tempt you are the ones you didn't get in your stash! I am most tempted by the plain old trefoil butter cookies and could mindlessly eat a whole tube in a snap!
Thinking of all of you. Thank you for being my friends!

Yes,mostly at peace with the decision, but still hashing it over.
My son rang. Sounded a bit disappointed. So, another hash. But I think we couldn't really do anything else.Had no realistic offers in 7 months.Money is everything. Brighton and Hove is the second most expensive area in the country outside London. I just don't feel we are up to a major upgrade at this time in our lives. . Plus we were fed up with the estate agent's shenanigans.
Big thing to let go of, but, as long as we keep seeing the grandchildren, it is fine. I hope we will be able to do the holiday apartment thing . That would be fun.
For the first time in a few weeks I have hit the alcohol. Get a frowny face on my chart tonight.

Well ladies, was OK this morning, but didn't feel well as I was at the community center. Stomach upset, sweats, and feeling light headed. Called husband to get me, and we went to the store. I sat in the car, and now I am resting on the couch. Feels good to be still.

beth and "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good". That one always makes me feel better when overwhelmed and underfunded
Becca take care, hope this passes quickly.
Just minding my own business driving down the road when my muffler blew a hole-I am embarrassingly loud until I can get to my mechanic. And there goes my emergency fund-and that's why it's called an emergency fund.
Boy it's hot and I have nooooo energy.

At least 5-6 tornadoes have touched down out west so far and it's still going. It's a huge tornadic storm. Very scarey.

We're supposed to get hit down here later tonight but they already have us under a tornado watch...or is it a warning? I can never remember.
Added - I'm online watching my boss play bridge at the senior championship. They're getting killed this match. I love the internet.
