Paula Y, that is a gorgeous quilt! So many of you ladies talented like that!
You all have a relaxing weekend, and realize all the freedoms we are blessed with. That didn't come easily, but on the backs of many a fallen servicemen. This weekend I am proud to be a retired chiefs wife, and a Mom of active duty sailors!

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening My Dear Friends,
Mia, that is interesting information on the wedding cake pricing. I just had a small 2 layer cake and don’t remember what it cost but tht was almost 50 years ago. Lol
Lanette, that is a beautiful “Cousin It” by your garage. Do let us know when you find the mouse trap.
MicheleNC, yes I am sharing a room at the convention. I hope you didn’t think we all wore pj’s to the general meetings. LOL
Paula, that is sad about the accidents around you lately.
Katla, so glad to hear that your DH is maintaining his health. Thankful for that.
Heather, sorry to hear that the phone call from your Realtor caused an upset. I’d carry on as if you didn’t get the call since it could take them longer to sell their homes than what you had yours on the market. I can’t believe they charge you to terminate the contract when you simply decided not to sell at this time. ((((Hugs))))
Allie, have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your get away.
Dana, congrats on getting rid of that tub of butter! Way to go!!
Kay, sorry about the results of the mammogram. I’ve been through that a few times that all turned out to be nothing but the waiting to find out was not fun. Good luck.
Beth, you did a wonderful job with the cupcake tower. If you aren’t a baker why in the world would your friend ask you to do the cakes? LOL The real question is, are you still friends?
Allie, I hope you like the new attorney. Tom would be lucky to get anything if I were in your shoes.
Barbie, so glad things seem to be going well with Jake. (((Hugs)))
Ann/TN, welcome. This is a great place for support and information so come often. If you have any questions, tech or otherwise, someone in this group will surely know the answer. One day at a time is the only way to attack this journey, so good luck.
Kate, I think I’d go ahead and get both eyes done now also. Good luck.
Lisa, I can’t even imagine taking on the task of baking my own wedding cake. Even the simplest wedding has enough stress with it. Great job.
Sara, congrats on the 25 years of Service. I hope the ceremony was what you wanted yesterday.
Heather, I don’t like choosing colors for paint either. There are just too many choices and it’s hard to tell what it will really look like from a small swatch.
Pam, welcome. We always have room for more. Please tell us about yourself to help us get to know you. Also it’s great if you sign each post with your name and location, to help us keep things straight. Some of us (not saying who) are getting older and have a hard time with who’s posting what. Come often.
Dana, have a fun and safe weekend. Pretty cake.
Pip, great bd pic from Kirby and the kids. I hope it was a great one.
Heather, pretty flowers. I need to add some color to our backyard.
M, congrats on results!!!
Penny, beautiful views. Sure looks cold to this Southerner.
Allie, I’d say tell the attorney everything and let them decide what works.
Sue, I loved your “Special Gifts” poem and I feel the same way about this group of lovely ladies.
Katla, so glad you got your glasses fixed. I would have probably put a patch over the one eye rather than have that constant headache. I just don’t get them so have no patience for them when I do. Glad you are better!!!
Gloria, bowling always reminds me of Terri, too. I sure miss her. She’s probably busy winning all the radio contests.
Kate, I’m impressed. And yes, that is a bright yellow shirt. Did he want it for a specific occation? It’s just like a ray of sunshine.
Paula, that quilt is absolutely beautiful. Wow.
We expected the man to power wash the house this afternoon as well as an electrician to repair the microwave but neither of them showed or so much as called. I don’t know what it is about contractors of any kind? DH gets so upset but we know every time that this can happen.
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
I needed a birthday gift for a bff so went to Steinmart the other day. I found a great looking 2 piece top that I thought she would like and it was marked down to $25. Yesterday I took it out of the bag to put in a gift box and noticed that the back seam was not sown for about 10 or 12 inches. I knew they only had one other and it was a small which would be too little so I was very disappointed. I went to return it today not knowing what I would get her but as I walked into the store there was a lady in front of me that was returning the exact top. We chatted and laughed about it and I found that hers was the size I needed. Woo Hoo I guess it was meant to be and now only hope she likes it.
Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you. And a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.
I Love you

Wow DJ, that is quite the coincidence. I a, so glad when life happens that way.
Penny, loved your pictures. You will ha to post them again when we are all having the high temps this summer.
I never knew getting this little kitty would be so emotional. I know training a new animal from the get go is important but I don't like to say 'no' to something that just got in my house. But he has all his claws and sometimes he will be flying across the room and jump on my legs. Triple ouch!!!!!! I have little rips in my jeans. I know now when I go play with him to put a towel on my lap. But there are also the times when he gets up on my shoulders and on top of my head. I have tried to take a decent picture of him but he won't slow down. Ok, the emotional part. We have tried a couple of times to have them in the same room and Melody is hissing up a storm which she has never done before since we had her. Of course there has never been another animal in the house. But then when Mr. Mozart is back in the office and I try to pick Melody up she won't let me. It's that reaction of my Melody that is so hard. As I have told Charlie so many times today, we have only had him for 24 hours.
OK! Those of you with cats. Have you ever used the claw caps? I have watched a couple of utube videos of putting them on and they are of a vet putting them on so I assume they are widely accepted. My legs need them. I do love the colors but Mr. Mozart is a guy. I can't put purple nails on him! They d come in clear. I am going to run out of neosporin and bandaides before this is over. The office is right next to my head as I sit here in bed and I can hear him jumping around in the bookcases and running around.

Carol yes, very menacing clouds for sure! That was on the west side of the Hwy 25 but there was a tornado that touched down on the east side miles out. It was the same storm. Now I know why all those trucks were hauling a** past me!
The speed limit is 75 mph out there! I was going 80 and they were passing me!
I have had a good time. I ate too much; 300 calories over today, but we went walking around the park. It was good!!

Thanks for all comments on DH shirt, I used to make all the family clothes when kids were young but work etc got in the way. Material and threads etc are so expensive today and it is cheaper to buy ready made
Not doing so good on eating and logging front but still exercising so hopefully won't put any on

Pip - there's a strong family resemblance between you and your sister! She's as gorgeous as you are, in a rounder version.
I'm just checking in briefly now. My town, Longyearbyen, has an annual "cultural exchange" with its sister town Barentsburg, where the population (of about 400) is Russian/Ukranian. Their cultural ambassadors were here a week ago and gave a fantastic show. My choir is participating in the return visit, along with Longyearbyen Big Band, students at the arts school, the Irish Dance ensemble, the men's choir, the ladies' choir (named "Tundradundrene" roughly translated Thunder on the Tundra), the ukulele orchestra, our bluegrass ensemble, and several soloists. The acrobat team "Circus Svalnardo" had to bow out at the last minute. You can see that despite being only a town of just 2000 souls, we've got a lot of activities to choose from!
It snowed all day yesterday but today the sun is back in full force. I'll try to take some more pictures for y'all!
/Penny, enjoying the rich culture at the North Pole4 -
Paula Y - I love the colors of that quilt! Such movement and drive in one small space...
Joyce - much luck helping the kitties get along... like so many humans, the older ones don't like change. Melody may well help Mr. Mozart learn his manners, in the end.
Penny - enjoy the return visit! Sounds amazing.
Pip - happy belated birthday--your mom looks very peaceful and happy in those pictures from the hot springs.
I actually entered my peacock painting, which y'all might have seen a couple months back, as well as one more, in a local art show--the first one in Fort Stockton in my ten-ish years here, which will be taking place Saturday, June 17. I write for public consumption literally every week (still writing my opinion column for the paper). But THIS gives me the wobblies.
Below is the other one I put in the show - the show's titled "Betweeen the Notes," the theme is "Space" and it inspired this one, which I call Space to Breathe.
Love y'all,

Pip - Love the pics of your mum.
Lisa - You are all round talented! :flowerforyou:
Paula - Gorgeous!
DH is going off in a bit to collect the new car. He will have to claim back some road tax on the old car, as he paid for a year in March. I will be driving very gingerly for a few weeks as I will be terrified of scratching it. One way we economise is to only keep one car. It saves a LOT of money, but it does mean I am nervous of driving what I consider to be his car primarily.
Grey, cold and windy today for the bank holiday weekend. Our cricket ground is hosting a sell out one day international against South Africa so we are hoping the weather cheers up for them. Revenue on a day like that is vital. If it is totally rained off they have to refund all the entry fees. DH is not going. (Too crowded and noisy. Traffic jams)
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxx6 -
Up early after 3 hours sleep. Hubby drama is wearing on me. I work today from 11 - 6 so I'll use the extra time to get a few things done. Told hubby I was 70% set on splitting up and he had the summer to decide how he was going to "better himself". So far not seeing any difference. Glad I have control of all my money now. He'll be in a pickle if we split and he knows it. (You would think that would motivate him a bit!?!?!?!) Sometimes I wish the problem were another woman. I've lots of experience with that from hubby #1! I will be seeing my counselor this week. Good thing!
Lisa and Paula - such beautiful creations!
Pip - momma looks so content. I know she is enjoying your visit.
Heather - enjoy the new car!
Welcome to the recent newbies. I hope you stick around.
Off to do some more sorting and pitching.......

Thank you for all the kind comments.
First post surgery ride!
We (husband and I) cycled slowly up the cycleway and back on a cool overcast late autumn day. No PRs of any sort today! Bumps are leaving me feeling a little jostled. We also stopped in at a little grocery called Ziggy's because I was told they sold perogies ... but sadly they don't have any anymore.

Just looking at my Strava stats ... and I've got three QOMs! I knew about 2 of them, but the 3rd was a surprise. Cool!
And as it happens, 2 of the QOMs are fairly lengthy ... and the one I just discovered is a particular surprise because it is a very commonly ridden route.
Strava - program to track my cycling efforts.
QOM - Queen of Mountain, or in other words, the fastest female over a segment.
Segment - a distance designated by another cyclist. Or by me, but so far I haven't set up any segments.6 -

Morning, lovely long drive to D.C. Area late into the night. The three of us needed a little road trip bonding. Of course, I'm up first and just hanging out in hotel lobby drinking coffee, people watching--my kind of fun.
Hopefully we will sightsee in between various thunder storms-promise to post some nice pics and get in plenty of steps. If not, it's off to the hotel treadmill to stay fit

Oh.my.God. am I sore! I had the day off yesterday, so of course I got a lot of yard work done/started. Mowed the front and back yards again, built the frame for an 8'x4' sandbox, and dug through the rocks to place it, did some weeding, and some stick gathering. It started raining about 4pm, before I could place the sandbox, so I packed up all of my tools, grabbed my music and headed inside. The shower felt wonderful and perked me up for a while. I ran out and picked up some chinese food and plunked myself down on the couch for movie and dinner. I watched Bad Moms (not as funny as I had hoped), and The Light Between Oceans (this movie wrecked me- have many tissues handy). Anyway, up today, and SO sore! Supposed to stay sunny all day with only a high in the high 60's/low 70's; SO...I will get a little more done outside. I will get the sandbox placed, tear down my picnic table, I was going to replace planks, but found evidence of some sort of bug infestation in the wood-(which, I imagine, is why it is slowly falling apart), so breaking it down to burn, put in some edging around the future flower beds on the north side of the house, rake the SE corner of the yard, a little more weeding. That should give me another three or four hours in the yard. The weather is predicting rain for tomorrow and Monday. I am going to try really hard to stop after three or four hours of yard work today, but with so much to do before DD's visit, it is hard not to push myself on the sunny days.
Paula- The quilt is beautiful! Did you make it for yourself or as a gift?
Cathy- Poolside work sounds wonderful right now! But I grew up with a pool, so I know the work entailed to keep it nice. My DD and her hubby lived in Arlington for a year when they were just married. They are now in Burleson. Both work in Fort Worth.
Becca- If I lived closer and knew you IRL, I would be sorely tempted to quietly place two hand shaped cut-outs on your buns as you lay in the sun. LOL! Naughty girl tan lines!
Heather- Doesn't the lack of French Tarragon in England warrant a little trip to France to get one?! (as if you need an excuse to travel)
Lisa- Sorry about the house, and still not sorry if the timing isn't right. You, my friend, have the wonderful ability of rolling with what life throws at you (or doesn't throw at you)!
Thank you all for all of the tips on handling pessimism and negativity from the hubs. He is a good man, but it just wears you down at times. I have started a gratitude journal. It seems to have flipped the negativity that I have been feeling in my own thoughts/heart. As an optimist, it really didn't take much to pull me back to the light side. Thank you all for lending the hand to pull me back! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -
Almost had my new car totaled. I had my car at the edge of the parking lot because I have new car syndrome. A man careened through the lot after hitting a stop sign, jumping a curb , and becoming airborne at 50 miles an hour. If my car would have been one car over he would have hit it head on. I was not in the car at the time. The whole bottom of his car was strewn all over the parking lot. I have yet to find out how he fairs. It was in a school lot. Ten minutes earlier students were crossing where he went through. This was on the day I learned my challenging student was in the hospital with an asthma attack. I had no knowledge the student had asthma and until he went into the hospital there was no medication at school. So two close calls in a day. I am ready to just spend time in my garden. The student is okay and my car didn't get a scratch. The student now has medication. Because of this happening to him and the other issues he has I am insisting when under my supervision there is an aide for him.
I am planting less because of the rabbits. Many things are potted and are off the ground because of them. Just chased off two baby bunnies.4 -
Here it is!!!! I must say I am loving the wheels! Apart from a slightly lighter metallic blue and being petrol, not diesel, it is the same as our previous one. I am yet to get in it, let alone drive it.
Cup final today for my team (where we used to live). I will not watch as I can't stand the stress. DH will watch upstairs. It's not his team. I have a gay Swedish film to watch.
I painted my toenails this morning. They are metallic deep blue and I added purple glitter to the big toes. Go granny, go!

Paula ~ What a beautiful quilt you created!
Lisa ~ Love the painting.
Pip ~ You mother looks so relaxed. How sweet to give her a spa day.
Heather ~ Like that blue color on the Honda. My Honda is 10 yrs old and I still love it.
Margaret ~ Two scares in one day. So glad your car was not hit.
Toni ~ So sorry you are not seeing improvement in hubby. Hope the counselor can help.
For three days my ears have felt like they do when you are swimming under water. Today one is clear and the other is stopped up. Guess I have an ear infection. Hate to go to the doctor so hope it clears up.

Paula: The quilt is gorgeous!
Becca: You have a whole family to be proud of. I'm the proud mom of an active duty soldier. My dad served as a Sea Bee in the South Pacific in WWII. We took flowers to the cemetery on Thursday to avoid holiday traffic.
DJ: I also rarely get headaches. The eyestrain headache was horrible. I tried my old glasses for a while, but they weren't comfortable either. I'm glad things are finally right. Thanks for your sympathy & good thoughts. :flowerforyou:
Joyce: It has been a few years since we had a cat, but I used nail clippers and clipped off the sharp tip on the front claws only. It was a routine chore and the cat and I both survived it. I'd wrap the kitty in a bath towel and pull out one paw at a time. Fronts were what I worked on, & I left the back paws alone. It might work for you.
Pip: You are a good daughter. I bet your mom loved the trip to the hot springs. That would surely make for a memorable visit.
TNToni: Sending good wishes for your situation. :flowerforyou:
We heard a gun blast in the night & think that someone shot at a sea lion. The barking stopped. Sea lions are not good neighbors. They bark all night & when they take a salmon they bite its gills out and waste the rest of the fish. I am NOT a fan of sea lions & those of you who've been around to hear my complaints about them will not be a bit surprised to hear it.
I have a riding lesson today, and we have a gorgeous, sunny day. I hope I get to ride outside for at least a little while. The arena is great in lousy weather, but today is glorious. Keeping my fingers crossed, but not a bit confident. Riding inside might be the way things turn out.

Heather, love the car. It's just like mine except for the color. Mine is a bronze/grey sort of color.
Lots to do today, but I'm going at my own pace. I did the church bulletin, then DH and I went and helped make sack lunches for the soup kitchen. Then we tried to assemble layette kits, but one lady didn't show with her stuff so we couldn't finish them. I also need to find some kind if permanent take U.K. Put over the country of origin on the onesies. Normally I like clothing with the info stamped instead of a tag, but in this one use a tag would be easier. We drew through the country on the tags on the blankets, wash cloths, etc, with a black permanent marker, but we couldn't bring ourselves to do that with the little white onesies. I know it would bleed through and look bad.
After we got home, we walked our 3 miles. Now I'm relaxing, eating lunch, and checking in with you guys, then I'm going to do some housework.
Have a good weekend.4 -
Checking in. Cheyenne will be funny today, but still chilly. In the 40's.
I woke up with a sore throat this morning. I took my CPAP mask off early and fell back to sleep. I'm hoping it's the dry air up here and I'm not sick. We stayed up late watching "Battleship". It had a predictable script and more of a feel good propaganda film for the US Navy. But at the end, the aliens were destroyed and we were yelling "Go Navy" !!! It was probably the wine yelling! LOL!
KJ What is your sandbox for? Just curious. For kids or plants?
Margaret Wow! Close calls!!
Have a good day all!
