Caliecat – Glad holiday eating all worked out “as you planned”….congrats!

Barbiecat – enjoy those dance lessons…I think you are right on the sodium (not that I don’t have more than I should some days)

As previously mentioned I kept control of holiday calories…– 24th: 1077; 25th: 1225; 26th 1201; Yesterday was too low - family from Florida leaving, wife sick, gym, mall, groceries, yada yada; at the end of the day I realized I was “way” under calories and had forgotten to eat breakfast.
    -
Gosh – only 3 days til New Years!!! Anxious to see how I end up for the year….so I can re-evaluate and end up exactly where I want to be by Feb/Mar. Bought some Nautica swim trunks on sale this weekend (Orig. $59.50 and I only paid $10.50) – My first swim trunks in almost 15 years! I rarely ran into bargains, at my previous weight. Of course, swim trunks were not on my mind.

Have a great night and remember – Only 361 days til Christmas! :)

Bob, where do you live that you're thinking about swim trunks right now? or do you have a great vacation planned somewhere with a warm climate?

The temperature here is just about freezing so I'm wearing extra layers this morning for walking the dogs.

The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want the MOST for what they want at the MOMENT.

Barbie is very dedicated to her way of life and eating lifestyle. I try and be more like her when it comes to being strong and refusing food temptations. I wasn't so strong last night when Dave wanted some treats. I had these treats saved for another time when we go to the boat show in January and shared it with our friends. I have not gotten on the scale yet but tomorrow I will.
I have a weigh in on Friday and I better get my act together.

Marie has started a new plan and I have been watching her success with it. Keep it up Marie
    you are doing great.

    Have a lovely day.

    Shirley

Anne - Yes, we have a 30 foot Ticon sailboat. We were in Annapolis, MD on Canadian Thanksgiving to the boat show there. It was very impressive and our first time there.

Bob - You are doing great getting into those smaller sizes. Kudos to you!

  • That must be great fun having a sailboat SHIRLEY, and your trip to Annapolis must have been interesting and very enjoyable. My dad worked for a time at a small shipyard, and even after he left he still made model yachts and boats as a hobby. He made me a toy yacht one Christmas during WW11 and I used to sail it across the creek next to our house, manned by lady bugs. I got quite upset when they abandoned ship and flew off. Guess I was about 7 at the time. Thanks for the memory. That's the closest I've got to owning a yacht! Anne.

Anne I enjoy reading your post about your life;. I have been wondering how you get your groceries home without a car. Doctor appointment. and etc.? I don't drive now for I am blind in one eye and can't see to well in the other one.But My husband take me everywhere I want to go. I gave up driving about 3 years ago. But I still miss going where I want to go and when.and not have anyone waiting for me. I am a browser.
    Hugs marie
  • Hi Marie, i have been enormously lucky in never having had a car in this big big land. I worked about 45 minutes from home, but always managed to get to and from work with one of the engineers in my group. Now, I'm your typical little old lady trudging along with my shopping trolley to the local Organics store. I can get one bus to one mall and the dentist, and I can get 2 buses to get to a bigger mall and even the doctors only I keep well clear of doctors if possible. The doctor was somewhat surprised to see me 5 years ago after a 9 year absence. They'd put my files on the obsolete shelf. Cheek! I can get a bus to the hospital and emergency which I did after breaking an ankle on a rock whilst gardening 2 years ago. Thought it was just sprained. Then, if the weather is really appalling one of my sons comes to the rescue. So far I've managed just fine, but I expect it will change as I get older.
    Hugs back, Anne.

    :D Anne, there's a women in my neighborhood who has no car and is imaginative like you in getting around;

:D Bob, I live far enough north that many people head south to Mexico or Hawaii on winter vacations or spend the whole winter in Arizona, Florida, or Southern California.

  • Morning everybody. Just got back from taking my shopping cart for walkies to the grocery store Marie. Brrrr was it ever chilly, especially crossing the bridge. Shiver me timbers, Shirley. I guess you will know about that! Anyway I'm now home and I've got a good filling, warming stew simmering on the stove. Have a good day everyone despite forecast high winds this evening, Anne.

I am going to post this on the main message board -- but thought I'd place it here first... Just one of those things we all run across from time-2-time...

CALORIE REPORTING AWARENESS: Just an example on how we have to look out for varying calorie reporting. Yesterday, I bought Garden Lites Zucchini Souffle – The front of the package clearly states 160 calories – but if you scan the UPC code on the back of the box MFP picks up the old 140 calorie count.

If you go to Garden Lites website they still show 140 calories. If you search MFP (not using the UPC) you will find the correct calorie count of 160. Again – just FYI…Most of us probably look too close. LOL

brr anne. and here am dreding going to Wal-Mart with my husband in the car. What does the bridge cross over. A bridge.
  • Marie. It crosses over another road with a river to the right. So my road is high above what once would have been a ravine I suppose with the river running through it. All very complicated for not technical minded me. Anne

:D Bob, it's not only awesome that you found the differences in the calorie count but also that you were able to post a picture of both pieces of information side by side

:D Marie, when I was talking to my friend in California last night and told her about our temperatures here she said she hated cold weather and was sad that it would be too cold and windy for her to play tennis.

:D Anne, there's a grocery store I can walk to but it's across the highway so I walk the long way around and cross at the traffic light. I take my back pack for carrying groceries. I don't do that often, but I like the idea of walking....you inspire me.

I'm home from walking and ready to enjoy the fire that Jake built.

  • Cosy, warm fire Barbie. That would go so well with my veggie stew. I love my shopping cart and have had it for years. You can carry an awful lot in it and it's so good for the heavy stuff, potatoes, cat litter etc. I've even popped Tabitha Daisy into her carrier and wheeled her on top of it to the vets! Probably got a nickname by now, e.g. crazy cat woman etc but - as they say, necessity is the mother of invention. LOL. Take care walking Barbie, my one fear is being mown down by a car, especially at traffic lights. Had 3 near misses when walking with the pedestrian sign in my favour by left turning drivers. Anne.

Barbie I love the fire we need it today its 25F.

Dave and I went for a long walk today even though it was cold. The sun made it better.

Anne - Living in the city you have public transit and can get around rather safely. My oldest daughter lives in TO and takes a subway and streetcar to work everyday. I am in a small town and don't know how she does it. We have to have a car here although we do have a bus service. Everything is so spread out.

Bob - Thanks for the tip on the calories, I have found that here on MFP differences in my calorie count on the package and what MFP says.
  • Shirley, I don't live in Toronto, but I do live in a good sized town so yes, I am lucky in having a bus service. I so wanted to live in a very small country town because that's what I was used to in the past, but you have to do what circumstance decrees. I would have loved to have owned a car as well but going to see my Mom in the UK every 2 years and the subsequent cost was more important to me, especially as it was partly my fault her only daughter lived so far away. I did learn to drive, and could probably manage a car these days but I wouldn't dare to drive now at my age. Gosh I'd be an absolute menace! So here I am in a very pleasant town to walk in. Anne.

Barbiecat – thanks for the fire, I was cold.
Shirley – you are most welcome – love the way we all share information.
Just back from having a ring-guard put on by jeweler. I’ll have it re-sized once I hit goal and maintain for several months. It had fallen off three times and the last time was in a restaurant – I was lucky to find it.

Bob be careful about that ring. can't say I know what a ring guard is tho.
But good news it is to big for you now. really enjoying hearing from you.. I got to go and see if I can find me a fireplace
    <3 Marie
  • Good morning everybody. Boy, am I glad I got the groceries yesterday, it's (minus) -11 right now but the forecaster says it feels like -20 with a high of -7 later and windy. I believe snow or flurries are forecast for tomorrow and Friday. We've only had 2 snow shovel worthy days so far. I was invited out tonight for a restaurant meal with 4 families with Grands but I'm still getting over the remnants of a cold/flu so I'll let the new year in with Tabitha Daisy. I believe you said you are in the Niagara region as well, Shirley, so I guess we are warned. It's a stay in the house and walk inside day! Wish I also had a fire place Marie. There is a stove in the basement but I rarely light it.
Be careful with the ring guard Bob. I had one once and still managed to lose the ring.

    Anne.
