I'm going to continue with my binge posts and the word ones:

I watch a lot of those House Hunter shows and I've noticed that Americans pronounce foyer as "foy-er". I'm pretty sure all Canadians pronounce it "foy-yay". I get a twitch every time I hear "foy-er" lol

FOY-YAY! I totally understand what you mean when you cringe, I stopped watch home improvement shows for that reason.... I'm also that person that will correct you while you're talking if you pronounce something wrong.

Same. I also can't "like" something on Facebook if it has a spelling or grammatical error.

I've either deleted or hidden most of my friends who talk/spell like they didn't pass grade 4 English.... I'm not a grammar snob by any means but COME ON!

I remember online dating and I just WOULD NOT tolerate a guy messaging me if he had spelling/grammatical errors in the message. OR it would COMPLETELY turn me off to a guy if he had a profile that had spelling/grammatical errors all over it. Lack of punctuation for me is a SERIOUS turn off, even in texts.

"Hey bby how r u doin just saw ur pic an ur hot as fck"

    'Nah bro. You're blocked now.'

    this! completely!!!!

    wut r u up 2?
ignoring you, that's what i'm up to...

    Yup. 1000%.

I also remember getting a TON of messages that just said

    hey

Um, hey what? Are you just randomly sending a message to hundreds of women to see if you can get a response. My response is "Delete"

    I hate the "hey" message

Umm, there aren't enough CEOs making that much money to make up the difference for every entry level employee to make $15/hr AND give the currently mid-level and lower management people comparable wages. There are overpaid CEOs. Mine is not one of them and in fact is one of the nicest men I know. But even if there were enough of them, you didn't accuse them of looking down at the people who cook and clean and mow for them. You accused people whom I suspect are a lot like me, slogging in the middle class, cooking most of my own food, cleaning my own house, and mowing my own lawn of maybe paying my own teens to do it.

I'm sure you didn't mean to make us feel judged and I appreciate your passion for the less fortunate. (by the way, I do try to help them directly by volunteering my time to a free medical clinic and a few other things that make a practical difference to them.)

P.S. I have this thought that things would improve here if we had term limits and if anyone who left elected office or a high level bureaucratic job for one of those high paying jobs had to surrender their government pension completely and pay a 50% tax for the first 5 years if they or their company attempt to lobby government in any way. We sell access to the highest bidder and that's a damned shame. (for instance, the Treasury Secretary shouldn't be able to work for any bank or hedge fund for 5 years after he leaves office. The job comes with a pension and there is too much inside knowledge for working in the banking industry not to give the bank he or she works for a competitive advantage.)

In the beginning, these congressional and secretarial government *kitten*(Sorry Susie) weren't even supposed to GET PAID! It was a VOLUNTARY POSITION for the betterment of the country and after they had served they were supposed to go BACK TO THEIR REGULAR JOBS.

Obviously some people took advantage of their position at some point and changed things and now they serve 2 freaking years and get a $250,000/yr pension! But we can't get proper medical care to our military veterans, our government can't afford to give its citizens free healthcare, or tuition free state run colleges. BUT WE CAN TOTALLY AFFORD TO GIVE JOE SHMOE WHO WENT TO HARVARD, GOT A LAW DEGREE AND GOT INTO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES A QUARTER MILLION DOLLAR PENSION FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE EVEN THOUGH HE ONLY SHOWED UP TO WORK 1/3 OF THE TIME!

    /end rant

ETA: Grammar and punctuation. Though there may still be some. A little bit of passion got in the way.

    and this

@Italian_Buju I am an American and I feel that wealth tips too heavily toward too few who currently dominate our government. It's a sort of 'heir' system. If you look closely, many of the people in our congress or senate all seem to come from the same wealthy families. The power will sadly stay with these same rich families who pass their seat to the next child in line to help them keep all of their money.

I have worked as a waitress and a bartender making $2.13 an hour plus tips. I had to report the amount I made based on a percentage of my sales. There were nights when I got tipped so little I walked out with no money made and still owing the restaurant money to pay taxes on what I 'should have made' based on my sales.

I was married, and I was the only one working to keep the household afloat. My husband couldn't find a reasonably paying safe job with his Master's degree. I worked 65 hours a week and was trying to go to school. I didn't make it through school and I still owe $2,200 in student loans.

Where we lived had something to do with it. It was Odessa, TX and with the oil boom came people willing to risk their lives/limbs for some short term large sums of money. With the flood of that money from a few big companies(Weatherford, Haliburton) willing to pay large amounts for a short period of time, came the raising of prices for everything. The prices of homes, cars, food, everything except the minimum wage of the normal everyday worker.

They asked for more because they knew they could and people would just accept it and pay it because those that could afford it at the time didn't care and those that couldn't afford it also couldn't afford to move and go live somewhere else. It sucked.

*hugs* i agree with SO MUCH of what you've said!

this is like the area where my mom and sister live. natural gas is all the rage in this area. so now a two bedroom apt in town that would have previously been $500, is now $1200. if you're not working on one of the rigs, you're pretty much screwed.

Spent over $100 on groceries, went to Taco Bell right afterwards.

I used to do this every time I went to the grocery store. It took junking my car to break me of that habit! I haven't picked it up again, knock on wood.

Confession: We do go out to eat right after (or before depending on how we feel) grocery shopping. :flushed:

We usually do too. Who wants to shop hungry, or cook when you've just spent all that time shopping?! Not me.

We went shopping this week while I was hungry... I bought all the foods! At one point the mancreature looked at me and was like seriously!?

Sidenote: did y'all know there is oreos yogurt?! My inner fat kid nearly died with excitement when I saw them and then my mind was like NO YOU CANNOT HAS!

We make the WORST food choices when we shop hungry. We try really hard not to do any kind of grocery shopping before we eat.

Last night, we had to go to Target to get a baby shower gift for a shower tomorrow. I was fine with that because I was under the impression we were going to eat directly after (I only had a quest bar for lunch and then some cottage cheese for a snack, so I was pretty hungry) so no big deal. Mr. Mo takes FOREVER picking stuff of the registry and I was getting properly irritated with him. We finally choose what to get and head out. Instead of going to eat, he pulls into Lowe's parking lot. I was really annoyed at this point, and throw a little temper tantrum and say, "I knew we should have eaten first!" and slammed the car door. He just stared at me in total disbelieve.

I'm like the Incredible Hulk in a way, except, it's you wouldn't like me when I'm hangry, instead of angry.

I get the same way. In part of your head you KNOW you're being unreasonable, but you have no control over it.

This is EXACLTY me! Mr. Mo even said, "Is someone hangry?!" He already knew.

So, I need to tell a sweet hubby story since everybody else is.

I love to go dancing. Hubby can not find a beat. He signed us up for private dance lessons so he can dance with me.
Last night was the first lesson. This will be a fun little diversion for us.

So incredibly sweet! There is not a smile emoji big enough for my current grin. That's too awesome for words.

Same. Except, I don't wear sleeveless tops to the office, but pretty much everywhere else. I love having muscles! It's better than having boobs, in my opinion.

Ha! Yes, but I hate buying new bras...I hate shopping in general but bras and jeans are by far the worst.

Even though I've lost a little over 8 lbs. since starting this almost a year ago, (I'm a VERY slow loser) my boobs have remained as small as they ever were. The ONLY time I had anything remotely close to real boobs was when I was pregnant and nursing. After I quit, they went far, far away never to be heard from or seen again. I'm okay with that, because Mr. Mo is a butt man anyway.

You're cracking me up today. Not that you usually disappoint...but today, you're extra funny.
You also called yourself a loser, ha! ;)

Thanks, @kelly_c_77 . Maybe it's because it's Friday, or all the sugar from the donut earlier. Regardless, I'm happy to be a source of entertainment for you today.

This is exactly me, too!! I feel like I've got the dark cloud over my head and it just gets bigger and I get meaner until I can shove some food in my face. Thankfully, Mr. Jenni understands and gets this way too. We have started packing an extra sandwich to take to work for our commute home (we carpool) so that we can avoid the hangry when stuck in traffic for 45+ minutes.

ETA: the extra sandwich (170 calories) also keeps us from deciding that fast food is a viable option because we MUST EAT NOW.

Ok... I have a fun question for you guys: What do you call soda? Do you call it pop, soda, soft drink, or coke (for all drinks)? I grew up in South Carolina and down there, as far as I'm concerned, pretty much all of us call it soda. I've never heard anyone actually say ''pop.'' And why would you call every soda ''Coke?" Coke is a specific drink!!!

I took a quiz to see where in the US I sound like I'm from. Florida, Maine, and Boston were high up there (Boston, really?). Here's the quiz if you guys want something to do: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/12/20/sunday-review/dialect-quiz-map.html

EDIT: Apparently I sound absolutely nothing like people from Detroit.
EDIT2: Took the quiz again and got three cities in California. No matter what it says Detroit is least similar.

Soda. Always. Half of Pennsylvania says pop and I hate that half. [possible exaggeration]

Newark/Paterson, NJ, New York, NY, and Yonkers, NY.

I was born in north Jersey and lived there until I was 14. This quiz is 3000% accurate. ;)

    (Page 1331!)

I got Overland Park, KS, Kansas City (KS or MO), and Springfield, MO. I would say this is accurate.

@Italian_Buju -minimum wage nationally in the U.S. is $7.25/hr. States and localities can set it higher if they like. I know, for instance, it's $15/hr in Seattle, but not all of the state of Washington.

If the minimum wage here in TN were raised to 15/hr, I would get a raise and so would most of my coworkers who do not have masters' degrees, except for the nurses. (I have a bachelors.) however, if you think bachelors degree nurses who are making $20/hr vs CNAs who make $10 or people who make $8.75 to transport patients and deliver food and clean rooms are going to stand for not getting a raise if those people do, then you don't know human nature. It's not that all nurses look down on them (some do - I don't like them); it's that they've put years into their education and training and feel that it brings the hospitals and medical practices more skill. And if the bottom gets a raise and so does everyone else to be fair, then how do we contain costs to the patient?

It's a problem, but there are no magic wand solutions.

The problem, is not what you make vs what someone else makes. The problem is that you have CEO's making 8 BILLION dollars a year, while their employees cannot afford food!

I so agree with this ^. No one needs that amount of money.

However, I also agree with the other side (please don't hate me-I really like you :) ). I have a bachelor's degree and it put me into a lot of debt. $500 a month goes to debt for my degree alone (it used to be $680 but I did pay one loan off). So, the way I see it is why did I bother going to school if I'm not going to make more than what minimum wage is going to be anyway? I would have been way better off not going at all. I'd have more money than I do now.

I will also not say anything else on this because I don't want this thread to crash. :)

But why is that the fault of the person that makes minimum wage??

I am sorry, but everyone of you that posted about this, all I can see is "I am mad that the person that makes my coffee/cleans my toilet when I stay at a hotel/makes my sandwich at subway, is able to feed their kids, pay their rent and have heat all winter" And quite frankly, it makes me sick to my stomach.

Some of those people work 40-60 hours a week, doing hard laborious jobs, and you guys do not think they work hard enough to make a living wage?

Minimum wage has gone up quite a few times in the last few years where I live, and while it does not affect me personally, I am glad the woman that makes my tea every morning on my way to work, might be able to buy something nice for her kid and still pay her phone bill in the same month. And it disgusts me that some people would rather see people like that struggle and not be able to eat every day, because they did not have the same opportunity to go to school that you did. Not everyone is born on the same playing field and gets the same chances, but everyone is human and deserves the same dignity and a living wage.

but that's just it, that is completely your projection onto what they were saying. not a single person said they want to see others suffer, not a one. but that's how you perceived what started off as a non-argumentative confession one person had reconciling their life path with the way society is changing.

then you were out-right rude and mean to that person. that's completely uncalled for and unfair. it has nothing to do with "refusing to tolerate societal injustices" it's you looking to have someone to be morally superior to.

Okay so nobody here ever said we think anyone is beneath us. Not once and not at all. And no one said we would like to see people to continue to struggle. You're right it's not their fault, but it's my fault that my dad worked his butt off so I could get a good education? No it's not. We're not saying that anyone is below anyone or they don't deserve to make money when they work hard, so please quit saying that.

It's not a bad thing to disagree with people and have different point of views but your posts come across a bit mean to me.

Well your whole POV on this subject comes off very mean to me. So, your dad worked his butt off so you could go to school. What about the ones that do not have a dad to do that?

That is what I mean about opportunity. If you are lucky enough to be able to go to school, awesome, good for you, but that does not make the people that did not get that same chance worth any less.

And while you might not have come right out and said they are beneath you, you certainly think they do not work as hard as you do, which is totally wrong. You came right out and said that, or agreed with it anyway (I do not quite recall).

As far as the bolded, what exactly are you saying then? The deserve to make money, just not enough to actually live off?

and as far as anyone on this thread is concerned, there are few as kind and understanding as @LBuehrle8. she never said she thought anyone didn't work as hard as she did. she was discussing the different routes that eventually ended everyone up in the same location. it was a discussion. you took it personally.

@MoHousdon - save the night out for Saturday and just hang at home. Sounds like the best plan after a work out.

We've got friends coming in town that we're going out with tomorrow night. They've opened a new brewery in town and we're going to check it out. Mr. Mo is VERY excited. I think we will just do the takeout and Breaking Bad thing. If we really put our minds to it, we may even be able to finish the series.

The brewery thing sounds fun!! Try some new stuff for me. I love some specialty beer!! I can't do it that often though because calories. It is an indulgence I look forward to when I go out.

I'm not a beer drinker, AT ALL, but Mr. Mo is so I'm sure he'll try plenty. I've heard they have good food, so that's what I'm mostly excited about.

I am SO tired. I was staying up last night watching some cringey compilation videos. Cringey as in it hurts to watch them because you feel so bad for the people in the video (why was I doing it to myself?). I had to take several breaks and in the end I felt like I died a little bit inside. One dude sent his wife away on vacation for a week so he could surprise her with a brand new AMAZING kitchen that he spent $60,000 on. First thing she says? "I hate that color." UNREAL. Instead of commenting on the two stoves she always wanted, she got mad at him for not changing a LIGHTBULB of all things. He worked to make her happy all week and the only things she could do were insult him and nitpick. That video was less cringey and more infuriating.

I don't know why I'm saying all this..... guess the video really stuck with me? Kindness is important!

Omg, I saw this video...I could NOT believe her reaction!!!

I seriously wanted to slap her when I watched that. I'm telling you, if my hubby sent me off on a vacation AND dropped that much money to give me my dream kitchen, I'd be thanking him profusely, not nitpicking and complaining! Some people just can't be made happy though...

I felt like that video was staged. I saw it a long time ago, it seemed very fake, almost like they were reading their lines. Also, I wouldn't want my hubby redoing my kitchen without my involvement. Maybe that makes me a horrible person, but I want to choose the colors and whatnot together, not take whatever he picks out.

Haven't seen the video but I'd have to say the same about involvement... although perhaps the kitchen is not the room where I should die on my sword since my SO is the cook, lol... but when we met, the kitchen walls in the home my SO owned were flaming orange. In semi-gloss.

    Like ORANGE 036.jpg

I couldn't face looking at walls that colour every morning.

    Nope, I couldn't either :grimace:

My cousin's wife just purposely painted their kitchen walls bright orange with yellow accents. :s

Yes, it's as hideous as it sounds.

I know I should just set my pride aside and be happy with what I did get but man is that hard to do.

Oh, that STINKS like a dairy barn in the hot August sun!!!!

This made me laugh out loud! Thanks for all of your responses. I guess I can always start looking for a fast food job as the minimum wage for fast food workers just got increased to $15 in New York. I get that people need a living wage but to me this is just ridiculous. That was more than I made when I first started working a couple years ago with a masters degree. Can you tell I feel slighted in all sorts of ways today?! Sorry to be such a downer!

I am also one who envy's the heavy lifters. I love the results that are possible but honestly don't think I would enjoy it very much. I've recently joined a bootcamp class where my muscles are always super sore afterwards so maybe I've found a happy medium. Crossing my fingers I see results soon!

In a place like New York City, how do you live on a wage less than that?

I could definitely understand $15/hr in a place like New York City, but this is for the whole state and I live in rural upstate New York. That wage increase nearly doubles the current minimum wage of $8.75. It just stinks when you spend 6 years and $60,000 on a fancy degree to make the same amount as someone who didn't put that effort in.

I feel like you might be trolling.....but in case you are not:

"At least they listened to us. We're breathing little by little." — Flavia Cabral, 53, a grandmother from the Bronx who works part-time in a McDonald's for $8.75 an hour.

    11700831_893919504034438_4563210837702202284_n_zpssomba789.jpg

Why does it matter to you what others make? It makes you angry that someone that works a minimum wage job can now feed their kids AND pay their rent? God forbid! It is not like it is coming out of your pocket! And clearly your degree is not all that fancy if you are making $15 an hour......

WHOAAAAA, I thought no judgment? Not trolling at all, this is really how I feel and I could debate it all day but this fun supportive thread is obviously not the place for it. Like I said, I can see $15/hr. downstate but it is a completely different ball game in rural upstate. I really was not trying to start a fight or anything so I'm sorry if you feel that way. To put it as succinctly as I can...it does not make me angry that people can live a comfortable life. It makes me angry that I have spent so much time and money trying to better myself and in a way it's all for naught. Obviously I have some intrinsic motivation to keep learning and bettering myself and that won't change, but what is the point of working hard and trying if they're just going to keep raising the minimum wage and I'll know that I will always be fine? Who wants to work harder and longer and be more stressed when you could get the same just putting in the minimum? I could just skate by with a lot less effort.

I can totally relate. Don't worry there have been disagreements in this thread but we all have to agree to disagree to keep it successful. I know what you're saying though and I know I'll get a lot of hate but when I read your last couple sentences the world socialism came to mind. Like in high school when teachers made a grading curve on tests or papers- why work hard when you know others will and you can do minimal work and still pass! Sorry if I offended anyone too but I very much understand what @levan11 is saying.

I want to add, I agree with parts of both of your points of view. I'd like to add, that it will mean money out of her pocket in the long run because that money to pay those fast food workers more will need to come from somewhere which will result in paying more for said fast food, etc. Resulting in an increased cost of living for all, so this might just be a bandaid type situation that is not going to help the individuals much in the long run.

Mr. Mo asked me what I wanted to do tonight before I left for work this morning, and all I could think of was stuffing my face with takeout, and binge watching Breaking Bad. I WANT to do something fun, but that would require a shower since I'll be all sweaty/stinky from working out, and then making an effort to find non-pj clothes. It's too much work.

    this IS something FUN!!! B)
