I wanted to call into work sick so badly this morning. I'm exhausted and stuffed up. I didn't call in because I want to use all my accumulated comp-time to take Black Friday and Christmas Eve off.

I hope I'm not getting sick again! Zinc for me.

Yes I understand, the little girl in me cried”I don’t wants go to work today” last night.

Friday fun: what's everyone doing for the weekend (besides Quik, who's chasing bad guys)?
I am going to see my dad this evening, then going to do some Christmas shopping tomorrow after yoga and visiting a local brewery for their food truck round up. I'm the designated driver, but my favorite truck makes a killer Cuban that I always eat without bread. And she always serves me first so there hasn't been any bread on her grill. gotta love a business like that.

    Christmas shopping

I dont wanna think about Christmas yet!

I'm not ready for Christmas! I still can't believe Dark Thursday/Black Friday is next week already. Where has this year gone? This year we have to work 3 PM to midnight.

    Boo!!! Dark Thursday stinks!!!

I will forever boycott Dark Thursday. Freaking ridiculous.

    What is dark Thursday?

Sales that start on Thanksgiving night. People leave their family/friends/holiday to go shopping, which makes the store clerks also leave their family/friends/holiday. :explode:

I'm not sure when the sales start, but I assume 6-8?

I am grateful that Walmart has for the past few years made it a lot safer as far as setting up barriers to funnel people to the registers rather than it being a free-for-all, making it easier to navigate in the store overall, & setting up barriers outside to limit how many people are in the store at once.

All that talk about Christmas and I'd like to chime in.

Since my birthday is 2 days after Christmas, it's always been a bittersweet time of year for me. A lot of combined Christmas and birthday gifts. It sucks because it leaves nothing to anticipate or look forward to the rest of the year. That's a very selfish way to look at it, but that's just how I feel!

This year is different with it being the grandbaby's first Christmas! We've already started buying him stuff and I cannot wait to see his reactions to everything. Considering he's less than a year old, he probably won't have any idea what's happening, but that's okay. We'll still enjoy it!

As far as a tree goes, I've never been one to decorate before Black Friday, and I don't see that changing. We probably won't put up the big tree this year because Chandler has decided that even though he's fixed, he needs to mark everything in our house. :rage: Last year we bought a little mini tree with mini ornaments to put on the TV cabinet so that will probably be our tree again this year! We do the stockings on the mantel too. Luckily, Chandler is too short to reach those!

My sister's birthday is three days after and feels the same way.

I'm a diabetic and I told my doctor that I can eat a candy bar if I drink a diet soda with it because the soda removes the sugar & carbs and cals. Also, when I eat other sweets like cake or cookies taking more insulin to cover the carbs does the same thing. My doctor asked me; "And where did you go to medical school?" I said; 'Oh I just know this stuff because it works for me alright." He told me no I think you better listen to me but I don't.

    Tell me you aren’t serious

:# I'm waiting for Nicole. She's gonna hit the roof.

I was thinking this too. I don't know anything about diabetes, but in this case I would listen to your doctor.

Eugenia, this is not judgment, but it is a warning: please please please listen to your doctor. Insulin may make you feel okay today, but my dad is in a long term care facility because of diabetic neuropathy, among other health problems. He sometimes cannot stand up on his own and he can no longer drive because he can't tell which pedal his foot is on.

And my grandma had both legs removed below the knee for the same reasons! Take care of yourself, @eugeniaramage!

@eugeniaramage Diabetes is nothing to play around with. I really hope you listen to your doctor and not your logic and reasoning. My Dad had to have all his teeth removed because diabetes rotted them all. He now has to wear dentures.

Yeah this is one effect a lot of people do not talk about.
I use a special mouth wash at night even to help with the effects of T1D on my teeth.

Also, today is World Diabetes Day!

I'm lactose intolerant to the point I break out across my face and get severe stomach pain if I have dairy.

I still drink a milkshake whenever offered...

Same.... And mostly I don't even regret it. However, I have a gallstone that is bothered by refined sugar that has considerably improved my will power.

I know I've steer cleared of eating ground beef since it messes with my digestion. The weird thing is I can eat steak with no issues, but ground beef is out of the question.

I refuse to take part in that madness!!!

I hate that it has travelled to England. We were perfectly happy with our Christmas Sale madness and now this as well. The worst part is that we have gone over the top about it. I just heard an advert on the radio say 'Black November' so now its the whole friggin MONTH?! WTF.

Black Friday is a big thing in Canada here too.....I usually avoid it, but I did go one year to get my kids TVs for Christmas.

I am guessing this person has not been diabetic very long....because you generally don't have it as long if you treat it like this :#

I avoid it, unless there is something very specific I have in mind. I got my exercise bike in Black Friday a couple of years ago and I have a feeling I also got my Withings Scale about 5 years ago, that is all I have bought. If Fitbit participate I might consider a new one if I have the money.

That is a pretty scary thought actually, when you put it that way.

Wait. Fitbit can track swimming now? Why did I not know this?! I think it will be on the Black Friday list if that is the case!

I am proud of your restraint with a visitor to "our" thread. I hope she does not take us as judging, but rather as genuine concern.

Yes, for something high dollar, but mostly you can order at the Black Friday price online and pick it up or have it delivered a day or two later now.
