What nobody tells you about losing weight

How emotionally draining this can be. I keep discovering things about myself I didn't even know existed.4

While it's flattering to get compliments, I've found the more weight I've lost, the more embarrassing it's been to reveal how much I've lost in total. When I had lost 40-50 lbs, I proudly stated that number whenever asked. Now, I've lost over 90 lbs and if someone asks, I just say something like "I've lost a little" and try to deflect from giving a precise answer.
I have been posting my weightloss on fb, but now that I hit 80 lbs I have held back too. Strange
The last few times that I've tried to lose weight, I was derailed by well-meaning family and friends giving me heck for doing whatever they deemed wrong (running will destroy your knees!), personally taking credit for whatever weight I did lose (see what happens when you listen to me?) and constantly needling me for updates and info (how much have you lost now?). Almost as if telling them what I was doing or admitting that I was trying to lose weight was an open invitation to critique everything I did/ate/said. It got to the point where if I didn't lose what I felt was 'enough' weight, or heaven forbid put on a pound or two, I got the 'tisk tisk' treatment. I was ashamed and felt guilty, which lead down a rabbit hole of brownies and ice cream. What no-one told me about weight loss was that you've got to hold yourself together, because no-one is going to do it for you. And that the few incredibly supportive people you do find will be so, so valuable.
This time I didn't tell anyone but my husband (of the super supportive kind), kept it off of social media, and when asked I gave super-vague answers and changed the subject super quick. Over 60lbs down and going strong!!12 -
I have only lost 10 lbs - but surprised no one has noticed and hubby says it is a touchy subject so maybe folks are afraid. I guess we will see 40 more to go ......
I have enjoyed reading everyone's comments so much !!2 -

Either they do not stock that size, or it gets picked clean as soon as new clothes go in . . . I am not sure. But I've been trying to find new pants for months, and I haven't yet found one that fits.
Speaking of pants and how they fit, apparently women's pants are not currently made for someone with a 10" difference between hips and waist. Anything I find that fits my hips gaps at the waist by several inches. I wish I knew what the manufacturers were using as standards.
Lee jeans/pants have slimmer waist to them - reason I know is I am larger in mid section and can't wear them
Also a classic fit is probably better for your body type maybe - good luck4 -
As I go through the journey...remembering each and every day that it took years to put on the weight so I need to give it at least months to take it off. Some days it is hard to be so patient!

Not having to wake up every morning wondering "What's not going to fit today?"9

Having a shot of scotch and realizing that it's 10% of my daily calories. Not healthy! (I'm short.)10

As for the OP (I got down to 69 Kg but gained it all back and a bit more in last 2 years)
- You have energy like *kitten* tons of it but it takes you time to get there in the starting it is like crap
- shopping for stuff is really interesting
- it is nice when you go shopping with people who try to show you down and the sales lady says to them 'you would be a large right' and to you 'a medium would be fine, just try and let me know if you need smaller'
- it doesn't mean you will never gain weight

Some people get really offended at any mention of weight loss, so a lot of people are afraid to bring it up.2 -
You can fit in normal restroom stalls - not just the handicapped ones! That many people don't comment on your weight loss.2

- I actually fit in exercise machines I couldn't before
- Seeing more definition in my muscles and it wasn't even my goal.
- My butt was already nice, but now it's more toned. It's a shame it became a little smaller though
- My clothes which didn't fit me a year before, now do fit me
- Feeling like one of the pros at the gym
- Being an inspiration to other people
- Have a lot more energy
- Being pissed off when my gym is closed on certain days
- Be more flexible and much stronger
- Checking myself out in every mirror
- Seeing actual progress without any scale and making pictures of the pants I used to wear
- I never knew I had dimples!
- I poo every day now, before it was three times a week. My doctor gave me laxatives before, now I know I just needed to eat healthy and exercise
- I can ride my bike much further now before getting tired.
-"have you lost weight?"
- People looking like I'm crazy because I want water. "Just water? We have tons of drinks!" as if I'm hurting their pride.
- Some people judging everything I eat. When I eat a cookie once in awhile, I'm counting those calories too, don't say what I should and shouldn't do if you're living unhealthy yourself
- Other people pressuring me to eat a table full of snacks. You want me to waste an entire week of going to the gym?7 -
1) now that i don't bu all my clothing at specialty stores for the overweight, different manufactures have different definitions of different sizes. I can where a 2x dress shirt, an xl t shirt, and a regular L gym shorts.
2) Since I have lost about 140 pounds, people expect that I can convince people, who really do not want to, to loose weight. step 1 of loosing weight is wanting to.5 -
I'm still fat--but after 2 years of weight-watchers a friend of mine is thin for the first time in her life (I've known her since 4th grade) after her doc scared the bejeebers out of her over her cholesterol level.
When we go shopping I'm always trying to get her to try things on that are out of her comfort-zone, with no intention of buying them because they're not her style, just to play with the fact things look good on her now. She's a small/6, I'm an XL/16 (but should never get below a size 8 or 10 because I'm tall)
She buys the right size but still picks the same styles she did at twice the weight. :sigh:
So I guess I'm saying when you are female and lose weight, some of your still-fat friends may want to go shopping with you as a way of regressing to childhood and playing "dress up". Because you make that stuff look good, even if your lifestyle can't handle a $1400 designer dress at Nordstrom.8 -

When I got down to regular size and needed some new clothes, I had to take a friend with me and she just brought clothes to the dressing room. I had no idea how to dress my body. It was good to have someone else force me to try on things outside of my comfort zone.5 -
I've found that people love to be discouraging. A supervisor at work said, "you're so tiny, don't worry, you'll gain it all back." She also said, "you're starting to look frail." Why would you tell someone who has lost weight that they are going to gain it all back?!
I have gotten that a LOT lately! Also people telling me I have "lost enough".
According to my BMI chart I'm still obese and I still don't like the way I look in clothes AND out.1 -
The boob loss is real for woman.... I'm not trying to be funny either... kind of upsetting too... and the weird feeling of still feeling like you still weigh what you did. You still feel "fat"3

I live in south Texas...where summers are miserably hott!! This year, after losing almost 100lbs of "insulation," I'm finding it bearable.13

Mine didn't get better just with the weight loss, but for some reason, I cut back on dairy...accidentally, I just got sick of yogurt and that was the main sours of dairy. My skin cleared up. Now that I track what I eat, I can see that I break out more when there has been more dairy in my diet
I was going to ask about that. I was also feeling jealous of all the folks saying their skin has cleared because mine is the worst it's ever been. I've been concerned that it might be dairy because I really don't want to have to give that up......I LOVE ice cream and cheese and cottage cheese is such a great high protein snack..... guess I'll have to give it a go.....
Could it be the hormones in the dairy?
ETA: I know mine cleared up almost solely because of my birth control(NuvaRing).
But I have also been avoiding most dairy anyway because it's too high calorie for me.
Seriously, who stops at ONE OUNCE of cheese?! Or a 1/2 cup of ice cream?!
Yes, I hear you on the cheese and I also avoid regular cheese, but I've found that 50 calorie string cheese is a great, filling snack with 6 grams of protein. And the ice cream, yes I can stop at one half cup of ice cream--it's better than no ice cream!
I've suspected it's hormonal, too, since I went off BCP for other health reasons. Guess I'm looking for something I can control.....ugh.....0 -

Attention from men! It's weird....like I see guys checking me out and I'm like why is he looking at me? .... and that goes into my next.... not seeing myself as "beautiful" or someone that might catch someone's eye...6
