Hi everyone!! I just found this support group! This is what I need! I have a goal to lose 10 pounds in one month! I think I can do it if I put my mind to it! I am going to Disney World in August. I know how much walking I have to do, so I want to be in better shape. I also need to limit my sugar intake. I hope I can stick to this. It is so difficult, but once I put my mind to it...I KNOW I CAN DO IT!!!
Goal #1 - Make better food choices - Low carbs - lower calorie foods
Goal #2- Get more exercise - walking
    Goal # 3 - Lose 10 pound in a month!

Michele: I was referring to your typo (or auto-correct): it said "extremepLump" instead of "extremepump". Made me laugh. :)

So hot today, trying not to either fall asleep or become ill at work. Somebody asked about air conditioning in England. There's not at all the amount of air conditioning in Europe that there is in the US. I suppose partly because it's not this hot very often, and partly because of the expense of running AC. I like having AC in the US, but it's often *way* too cold and blowy.

Welcome to those who are new… We’re glad you’re here! Just keep tracking, keep posting, give us a name/place, so we know who you are…

Carol – NC – just glad to see you posting, whether you’re stoned on pain pills or not… :)

Sharon in Lethbridge, and all the others on my weight loss – Thanks! I know it will be slowing, but that’s why I’m here for support… It’s a life commitment, not a diet, and I’ve still got miles to go before I sleep.

Joyce – IN – thanks for the butt comment. My bubble butt has been a constant and ongoing struggle. Thank goodness for tight jeans, or “country girl Spanx,” as I call ‘em.

    Alison – proud of you.

Pipster – Not sure Vegas is ready for you… lived there for four years, I know whereof I speak. :). Remember, when it’s 115 degrees out, you need to run/bike in the fitness centers all the hotels have. Otherwise, go out and run after dark, when it’s only 90 degrees out. You can probably outrun most of the prostitutes, and pimps are notoriously unfit... Just saying.

Found this on Psychology Today, for all of y’all struggling with family and extended family relationships.

A mature 55-year-old is selective about relationships and priorities, able to focus his or her social life around people who are rewarding, and gently move away from those who are not. This person begins to focus more on experiences and other people than on things as sources of meaning and pleasure. He or she sees setbacks as opportunities for growth and change. —Karl Pillemer, professor of human development at Cornell University

smiley-devil03.gifI removed all the emotional vampires from my life some while back. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but on this side of it, it’s a very peaceful place to be. I’m so sorry for the pain that fills your voices when you talk of sons, daughters, DILs, SILs, FILs that hurt you or still are hurting you, and I hope you can find your peace, as well.

Get the core work going, even if it’s only crunches.
smiley-chores046.gif BISHOK… Butt in seat, hands on keyboard every single day. At 100 wpm, should take only 30 minutes, right? Do it. Write 3000 words a day, every day in July.

Kim N California wrote - Janetr – How long does it take to make one of your trees?

Kim at first it took me much longer. After I got a rhythm going I could get them done in a couple of days. I would lay out the arrangement, snap a pic, put it on the big screen on my PC to be able to refer back to it as I hot glued each item on. I used a light cream linen material as the background which I sprayed glued onto white stable cardboard.

Penny ~ I have really enjoyed looking at your pictures of the beautiful landscapes and reading your descriptions of the grands.

Mary ~ Good luck on your move. I cannot imagine having to move at our age.

Joyce ~ Hoping there will be healing for your DH.

At our advanced age (67) and after 45 yrs of marriage, I think my DH and I are learning to communicate a lot better. He has a way of talking in a tone of voice that sounds like he is angry and sarcastic. I have had to learn to calmly tell him how this makes me and DS feel and I think he is making progress.

DH was very thin his whole life until he quit smoking after his heart attack. Has gained a lot of weight especially around the middle. Finally hit him and has joined MFP. I am so proud of him for doing this. He is very diligent about logging every bite.

Hi all. My name is Katie. I want to lose 80lbs by 9/6/2016 when I turn 59. I want to be fit and healthy at 60. I live in Western CO. I garden, ride my my bike slowly an intermittently. I am working up to 10,000 steps currently weekly average is 6,000 steps. Today started back at my knee exercises, that include a general exercise plan. I have a gym membership that I haven't used in a year. They do have a pool. It's been so hot that I will use as the "carrot" to get me to the gym

Hi, Katie, and welcome. I have a sister Katie that lives in Arvada. We're from Denver originally, I have lots of family there. Are you around Grand Junction? So proud of you for making a decision to get healthy by 60. I can identify, only I waited until 65. Sounds like you have a plan and are headed the right direction. This is a wonderful group, of charing, sharing, supportive women. Again, welcome.

I do live in GJ. Thanks for the welcome.

Ann: Your husband looks great in his kilt. What clan is it? :flowerforyou:

Sue in WA: Congratulations on completing your move! I wondered how your kitty would handle the journey. It sounds like kitty did okay.

Tessarac: Your choice of starting goals is excellent! Good luck to you. :flowerforyou:

Kathi in rural NY: I have knee problems, too. It sounds like you made excellent progress despite your issues. Swimming should be an excellent way to move more. I like yoga, riding a bike and walking as forms of exercise. None of them seems to aggravate my knees. :noway:  Horseback riding is another story. I've learned how to protect my knees while I ride, but protecting my backside needs work.

Carol: Stop in when you can. I’m glad to hear you’re in the recovery zone following surgery. :flowerforyou:

We discussed junk-food dinner last night and had healthy burritos instead. DH’s ideas pleased him but they grossed me out. He doesn’t need all that sodium and fat, and neither do I. :noway:

Happy Canada Day! We’ve had the good luck to be in BC during BC days and Canada Day in years past and we really enjoyed the celebrations. IMHO, Canadians know how to party!

Today I’m going to the funeral of a dear friend’s husband. :brokenheart: He dropped dead on his way out the door for work. She told us he’d been having heart trouble the last time we all got together for breakfast, but this was so sudden. My heart aches for her and the whole family. They got together in High School. He was captain of the football team, and she was a cheerleader. Luckily, her children and grandchildren live nearby.

I’m counting my blessings this day. Today is DD’s 36th birthday.

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” Thomas A. Edison

    July Goals:
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Eliminate alcohol.
    6. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

Carol - I expect he will lose the weight very quickly once he gets going. Men have it easier with their higher metabolism. Grrrrrr! Try not to be jealous! >:)

I went to the P.O. but didn't have my drivers licence with me! Duh! I've found it in my passport drawer where I must have put it for "safe keeping"!!!!!!!! :ohwell: I'll go again tomorrow and will spend tomorrow morning sorting out all the leasehold info for the conveyancer. Then it will be all done and dusted. Just got to sell my rental now!!!!!!!!!
Doing it in the morning means I won't be writing, but I have been sooooooo good this week, despite not feeling like it that I feel I can have a day off. The next bit will be hard to write. (For those new I am writing my memoir ages 0-9)

Like Kate I am going to do an online shop for my visitors. They are always sending vouchers and this one is 20% off, so worth having. Todsy we popped into the fishmongers in town and bought fresh dressed crab, salmon fillets, smoked haddock and fresh Sussex clams. The clams will be used tomorrow for a linguini wiith masses of garlic, herbs, some chilli and a splash of white wine. I hardly ever eat pasta any more as I use shiritaki noodles for most things, so this will be a rare treat. I also intend to make good use of the left over wine!

Pip - Have a FANTASTIC time in LA. I've never been, but I'm sure it's quite an experience! ! ! !

Jane - hope things are improving for you. :flowerforyou:

TV is rubbish during the summer so I'm catching up on my recorded films. Trouble is, DH goes upstairs to watch something rlse and then my cheese hunt starts. STEP AWAY FROM THE FRIDGE,! ! ! ! ! I can hear you shouting!

Joyce hope DH tests get to the bottom of his troubles.

All the stress in June has affected my mood. I have done hardly anything so far this week. That is usually the biggest problem with my depression- I become a slug with no motivation. So I am battling it with my various tools, and considering going back on the second antidepressant that I had been able to wean myself off of after a decade of taking two antidepressants every day! So frustrating! Yesterday I spent the day either reading in bed or sitting at the computer. NOT GOOD! big sigh :/

@Carey-Edmonton - Thanks for the cudos on the loss. I'm going to try riding the stationary bike on days I don't go to water aerobics. Hoping it's easier on my knees than the treadmill. We shall see. I may try it every afternoon when I get bored.

Pip - I have to drop down to about 90 to achieve zero error rate, but it's usually only one or two errors at 100 wpm. And when I'm writing, unless the word's totally unreadable, I leave it alone and catch it on the edits. I've been typing for so long that the first year I was learning, it was still manual typewriters, no joke. They built a new school my sophomore year of high school, and we moved to IBM Selectrics, the ones with the spinning ball... We thought we were hot snot on those little buggers, I'll tell you!

Janet in NO – Just a reminder because I’m sure you already know this… water resistant is not the same as waterproof. You are correct that getting caught in the rain with water resistant should be fine. Showering or swimming not so much.

Carol/Peach – I grew up in a household where the communication style was indirect. For example Mom would say to Dad “Are you going down to the basement anytime soon?” Translation: I need you to take something downstairs or I need you to bring something upstairs. Mike grew up being very direct and literal. I am much better about being direct with what I want to say but I still will often have to stop myself and say “Sorry, what I meant to say was…”

I am still working with him on the concept that tone of voice is as important as the words used. When he gets passionate about something he sounds angry when he is simply excited. His boss is the same way so I often hear him talking to his boss in a manner that makes me cringe and think he’s going to get himself fired. No. They understand each other and all is well but if he talks to me like that I get defensive. He’s getting better at moderating his tone with me. My Dad used to say “It’s not the words, it’s the music.” It helps both of us to remember that.

After almost 28 years of marriage our communication continues to improve. I hope we make it to 45 years to see how we are doing by then.

I talked last night with my friend who is going through a bad divorce. She is having panic attacks and asked me for advice on how to handle them. I have never experienced panic attacks so I’m not sure what advice to give. Does anyone here have experience with panic attacks and have ideas on how to deal with them? Especially how to deal at times when you are alone and it is entirely the wrong time to call up a friend?

    Mia in MI

    July goal:
Continue to honestly log food every day
Continue to meet PT one day a week for strength training
Start one hour a week of aerobic exercise
Stop Iced tea overload. 24 oz. iced tea daily plus 40 oz. water
Word of the month – gratitude

yeah, I started on manual typewriters too when I was a freshman, there were a few electric ibm ones but I think that happened in my sophomore year. ahhhh yes, feeling like a big sh$t was fun for a minute
