I thought I'd share this...
I took a long break from the gym and all that time I spent in the gym before (1988 - 2008/9) I didn't deadlift or squat even once. I'm old (44) and growing up in a rural area, I didn't have the easy access to programming and training that we do now. (Internet, smart phones, YouTube, MFP, Tinder, PornHub.) It established habits in me that were very hard to break.
I began deadlifting in July of 2014, after three months of getting mobile enough again to lift. My first attempted deadlift (115 lbs) I pulled my back so bad I could only curl in the squat rack for a couple of weeks. (Old habits.)
This video is from my first max deadlift test 9/27/2014.
https://youtu.be/2COKOzf7XVY?t=25s
415 lbs - I failed twice. I ended up with a 395 lb. 1RM that day and with ugly ugly form. If my form was a newborn, not even a politician wouldn't kiss it.
Fast forward to December 2nd, 2015.
https://youtu.be/j4nxLMpwSuY?t=16s
415 lbs x 7.
Strength and form much better, my deadlift face, meh, about the same.
Its one thing to write down your numbers in a journal, but its another thing to see your progress.
Dang, I love living in the future.0 -

So in 1.5 years, you advanced from getting injured by 115 lbs to lifting 415x7 like a boss.

Thanks! I wasn't trying to be inspirational, just that we lifters now have awesome tools today to further our strength goals like never before.
I think it should be mandatory that all gyms must have tripods on the floor so lifters can video their lifts and free Wifi. The gym I go to finally got on board with providing free WiFi.0 -

i struggle with the nihilistic nature of being a woman in a gym full of men. Between sets I watch men cranky out weight on a bench that I can barely squat. It's humbling, sometimes embarrassing, and forever frustrating.
But there will always be someone stronger- there will always be someone weaker- sometimes I'm the weaker person- sometimes I'm the stronger person- sometimes people look up to me- sometimes they look down at me. I can't help who I am- or what I do- I can only try to be the best at it that I can.1 -

@McCloud33 It was a challenge started by Jim Stoppani, 250 pounds for 25 reps. I figured I had previously deadlifted 250 pounds for a couple of sets, so 25 reps would be possible. I learned later women only had to do 10 reps. I think I was around 165 pounds in the first video with a 1RM of 305 and 185 in the second with a 1RM of 350 pounds.0 -
