HI FRIENDS! I have not had time to get on this site when I have been to the library - the hours here are terrible. 10-6 M, T, F; 10-7 W, Th; 10-5 Sat and closed Sunday. The library in Spanaway was open from 9-9. Anyway when I've been here I have had things to get done so needless to say I have 800+ posts to read for April and it's not happening today - I feel like I'm missing so much in all of your lives but I will be back soon I hope. I have an interview on Thursday with the Xerox company here in Lacey. I'll let you know what happens.

My birthday party has come and gone and was a lot of fun. My daughters, etc., took me to a Greek restaurant in Seattle complete with singing Greek men and belly dancers. I had mentioned I wanted a Fitbit so that is what I got. Here at the library today to download the software etc.

Gotta go - need to get my business finished so I can get back home and make dinner. Love you all and thinking of you daily.

So we are major flooding today. 20 inches of rain so far with more rain expected over the next three days. Falling at times at a rate of 4.5 inches per hour. The bayou and flood system can handle about 2 inches per hour but this down pour has overwhelmed it. The bayou behind my house is out of its banks on the opposite side. Hopefully it won't come over on our side. My house is up 4 ft but the garage would fill. I want my sunshine back.

Sylvia, you just keep enjoying your life, don't worry about us. That said, thank you for letting us know you're OK. You stay on my mind, my dear...

    Rori,
and anyone else around Denver, my absolute sympathy for the April snowstorm. Thus my residency in West Texas. Just sayin'.

    Lenora,
thanks for the question on the warehouse. "Pickers" is a good way to put it, but if all this works the way we're all hoping, won't have to spend a dime for the stuff I sell, and should at least make back my expenses from this trip (if things sell, of course). With a trailer that is twice as long and eight feet high, should be able to quadruple or quintuple the sellables. And, I still get to declare my mileage, hotel rooms, etc., on each trip on my federal taxes next year. We will be sending my sis and her husband ten percent of whatever we make from everything. They protested that we were already saving them money, as they have to pay by the pound to dump stuff, but I'll make sure they get rewarded. They'll be putting in work to get things sorted and loaded for us, and need to be paid for that.

Chris in MA, so pleased for you... trying hard not to say "please be careful," like an old worrywart... But PLEASE be careful. I genuinely hope he is everything he purports to be!

Got back yesterday afternoon, unloaded the truck and helped the DH put back the fence panels that had been torn down by the wind. Got home about 7 last night.

This morning, I just finally to the point where I can move my eyes to read and my fingers to type, so I have to go finish my weekly article and get it to the newspaper. That will be my last responsible act of the day. I feel like crap on a cracker, and have the headache from hell. All sinus, it shifts when I bend or move. I so seldom feel like ca-ca, and am hoping a few more sinus meds and a nap will put me back in fighting form.

    Love y'all,
Later, Lisa, back in West Texas, where it's rainy, wet and cool.[/quote

    Poor Lisa!!! Feel better soon.

I am glad I read this post, I was a little bit worried if I am the only oldtimer here. :-)

I would like to join this group. I am in my early 50's and just started my weight loss journey. I am at Day 2 of my new life.

I posted this in a different (wrong) thread:

I am not just here to lose weight; I am here to become healthier. My immune system is fighting against me. I have an autoimmune disorder (RA) and what and how I eat, has a lot to do with it.
The movie, “Fat, sick and nearly dead” was an eye opener for me. This guy was sick like I am; he juiced for a while, rebooted his system and continued a normal life with a healthy diet.
“Will it work for me as well?” I want to do give it a try so badly. I have nothing to lose, but so much to gain. I am in my early 50’s but I feel like an old women. I have to hold on to the rail when I walk upstairs, I have to hold on to the shopping cart when I go grocery shopping.
I am not hungry for food; I am hungry for a better life…still I continue to eat and eat more. I have to lose 100 lbs…is that even possible? Maybe I am just fooling myself.
Yesterday, on Sunday, I woke up hungry as always with big plans for a big breakfast. I started cooking, but then I changed my mind. I got all the vegetables out of the fridge and I made my first juice. I juiced 6 apples, 1 bunch of celery, a bundle of kale, ginger and 3 cucumbers. All the juice for one day was made and ready… now I just had to stick to the plan.
And I did…I joined my husband at the table, watched him enjoying his big breakfast and I sipped my juice. I drank another big glass for lunch and the last one for dinner.
Today is Day 2 of my new lifestyle and I wish for strengths. I had no idea I could feel that hungry and so alone without my beloved food.
I want to juice for about 30 days, under supervision of my doctor. I have nothing to lose…but everything to gain. If I am wrong and it doesn’t work, then I will be willing to pop pills for the rest of my life.
If I am right, well then I will live a pain free life without medications.
I will try anything and everything to reboot my system and get my health back like so many people before me.
I could use some friends on my side.

I am there for you! Remind yourself of past adversities you have faced and overcome, then dig down deep and pull it odd one mo time. Remember to be kind to yourself...and kindness is taking care of your body, mind and soul. We are pulling for you!!

    Hi all.!
Been having my cuddles with a very coldy, snorty Bea. :D We picked up the kids from school and the childminder. Bea is sleeping so I've got 2 minutes to type as DH is playing "jails" upstairs. One of DGS 's favourite games. :p
DGD was scared by a thunderstorm last week and was telling me all about it. She asked me "Are you brave?" I said I was about thunderstorms, but not about some other things. :)

DH has agreed to the Fully Escorted option for Mexico. He said, "I don't have much choice, do I." No, he doesn't. I am not acting as guide and direction finder all holiday and being scared to death and frustrated. Hooray!

    Love to all, Heather UK

Thank you for posting such a lovely picture of your grandbaby. One of the prettiest things I saw today! Sniffles and all.

Thank you for the jump start suggestions everyone!

Katla, my thoughts are with you and your family. It is a horrible experience to go through, but hopefully everyone will be able to come to accept it in their own way. After my daughter died and my son was killed, I thought about how I was going to continue. I decided that I would work to make them proud of me, even though I couldn't see them anymore. That provided the focus that I needed to cope, and I had the opportunity to do some amazing things to help others in the scope of my work. I share this as an option for the future that worked for me.

Larissa, so sorry that things didn't work out with MP. Consider it a practice run!

Chris, so happy for you! He sounds wonderful, and wow, what a great idea to go to Newport! He must have a romantic streak too. We've always got next year for the Pats, and who knows, maybe the Sox will get it together soon??

Rori, great pictures, but so happy I'm not there. Hope spring comes your way soon!

Michele, I share your predicament. My one cat Ginger immediately takes the warm spot in the bed when I get up. I'm not as kind as you though. When I come back, I move her to a cold spot and take my warm spot back, since there aren't any options for another potential warm spot.

Cheri, fingers crossed that hubs receives an offer soon!

Since eating 1000 or less calories a day, growing gills from the > 8 glasses of water/day and daily gym workouts together have yielded the sum total of 0 pounds lost in 1 1/2 weeks, I decided to try a Zumba DVD that I purchased months ago and still sat in its pristine wrapper. The first DVD in the set is instructional re the movements required. Lesson learned...I'm FAR less coordinated than I was 20 years ago! The cats had a good laugh watching me try to follow the instructors (who were going slowly), and I tripped over my feet. Will try the instructional DVD again, then attempt the real one. I'd like to be good enough to join the Zumba classes at the gym without injuring the person beside me!

My cats laugh at me, too. Little know-it-alls!

Pollance ~ Do you have a food scale to weigh your food and measuring cups? I can't understand why you would not lose weight on that amount of calories. As Katla says, "Calories in vs. Calories out." I have been out of control lately. Not measuring and not logging. Need to get back to that.

Noreen ~ You have a very wise outlook. I am glad that you are feeling healed.

Heather ~ Have fun with the babes.

    Thanks, Peach.

I am really appreciating the new people on here who are bringing such wisdom to this group!

Did lots and lots of gardening this weekend. And today (don't laugh Pip) we went on our first little bicycle jaunt that was a 35 minute ride. Tested out DH's new tires and knee cortisone shot. It seemed like he was doing okay till he had to dismount --that knee did not want to be of any help in getting off the bike. Not quite sure what to do about that.

Penny I would not handle well going back to snow this time of year--but it does sound like a magical place.

Has anybody tried to write a memoir? I feel the need to write some things down and I have read Mary Karr, but maybe I don't want to write a memoir as much as a chapter or two of an autobiography?

Terri in Milwaukee Welcome back to the group. I hope you feel tip top very soon.

This reminds me - has anyone heard from IrishTerri lately?

Kim from N. California What a great hiking achievement. The scenery is simply spectacular and you look pretty great, yourself. What a great response you had to the reunion committee. I have never attended a high school reunion. Like DrKatie, I was a nerd. I was glad to get away. Maybe, if alive, I will attend my high school 50th just to see how the "in crowd" turned out.

Pip you and Kirby are one lucky couple. What a wonderful, loving example. Both of you are such exercise inspirations.

Noreen "... the song of the wetlands has been my background music all day". How beautiful. We can see that you are a wonderful writer. An alligator roar? How close is it? Do you have any pictures? When I was in university, one of my geophysics professors talked about the sound of the crocodiles on the Zambezi river. I have never forgotten his description, or the components of the Tsumeb mine, also part of his lecture that day. He closed his eyes as he spoke very softly and we were transported by the poetry of his words directly to the banks of the river. Maybe if we had more beautiful writers and poets teaching science and math, we would be able to attract more children to become engineers and scientists.

The discussions on abuse so illustrate the relationship between food and emotions. We talk about how MFP is a lifestyle, not a diet. In fact, I think that MFP is the outward manifestation of a self-healing process. For whatever reason we turned to overeating or making poor food choices, it is only by attacking the root causes of our eating, while using the MFP tools to develop healthy habits, that we can maintain our new, healthy way of life.

    CJ

Kim...your family makes mine sound like the Waltons. Like you, I too have moved beyond it and feel so much better for it. I love the picture of you on your hike.
Penny...keep those pics coming. Love learning about your part of the world.
Noreen...did you take that utube video? They are scary.
Heather...I was wondering if you could post what time it is when you are sending your post. I have no sense of time travel and was just curious what the time difference is. I have figured out central, mountain and pacific time. Include me in as a member of the abused as a child club. For decades I never admitted it to anyone, just lived with the shame. Eventually as more and more people told there stories I realized I was not alone. Somehow I managed to put it aside and live a normal life, without therapy. Perhaps it manifested itself in the migraines I suffered from. I am so grateful that I came out relatively unscathed.
CJ...thanks for the essay on why our kids don't want our stuff. It is so true and now makes sense to me.
    Allison...feel better soon.
Lisa...thank you for your concern, I know it comes from a place of love and caring. I have friends who are skeptical and I understand. Unfortunately in this day and age dating at any age is a minefield. Gone are the days that friends play matchmaker, and my school days are long over. I thought long and hard about online dating and although I could have lived out the rest of my life relatively content in my singleness, I really wanted to give finding someone a try. I have to take the chance with PB because if I don't I may be missing out on the best thing that has happened to me. Are we moving fast, absolutely, but we know what we want and have no time to waste, I may have only 30 good years left!

I am feeling pretty proud of myself, I had yogurt instead of ice cream, which I really, really wanted and exercised before dinner. I was too lazy to do it this morning.
Chatted with PB this evening, we rehashed some of the weekend agreeing that it was wonderful. He told me I was the best copilot he ever had. Quite a compliment from a man who wants to be buried in his car!
A couple of details for Pip...he is the administrator of IT for a major hotel in Boston, he is 6'2", 190 lbs. ,educated in Montreal, besides his native French he speaks English, Spanish and is learning German, he loves kids, dogs, seafood and flowers, does not like the beach (but he drove me to the beach yesterday because he knows I love the ocean). Will that hold you over for a bit?

Need to think about bed, I have a looooooong day tomorrow.
Chris in MA who now has great incentive to maintain her girlish figure

Well we are wet here. But dry in the houses. Houses... let me explain. We have a house close to downtown that we live in during the week. We got it several years ago, a foreclosure that was hard to pass up. It took my husband's commute from 90 minutes to 6 minutes. When he retires we will either sell it or rent it out. That is the house on the bayou. The bayou went over it's banks on the other side but our side stayed dry. About 1/2 mile downstream from us it went out both sides and covered the interstate shutting it completely. Our "real home" is north of Houston and is where most of the rain occurred. I drove home today to check on the house and make sure no trees had come down. Our neighborhood got about 14 inches of rain in 5 hours. At one point the rate of rainfall was about 4 1/2 inches per hour. That explains the flooding. At the back of our neighborhood is a creek. It is normally about six to ten feet wide, about two feet deep. It is now over a mile wide and several houses in the neighborhood are taking on water. All that water is flowing south to the gulf. I can only imagine the flooding that will be happening tonight and tomorrow. There is already a lot of flooding throughout Houston as it is. If it rains more as predicted it will be even worse.
The first picture is of the bayou as a whole. It normally is just a large empty ditch.
The second photo shows the bridge over the bayou by my downtown house. The thing about this photo is that the bridge is normally 40 feet from the water level! Yes, that water is over 40 feet deep!
The last picture is of my home neighborhood. That is the creek. It normally flows about 1/2 mile from this spot. Something to know is that my "real home" is located near the highest point in our county. If it's like this up "high" (a whoppin' 250 feet elevation) imagine what it is like down south where all this water is flowing.
Thankfully both my houses are high and dry. Many people are not dry. Tomorrow I'll go help muck out with people who need help. It's hard work and all hands are welcome.

Heather: I'm happy that you've decided in favor of a guided tour in Mexico. Our day long tour there was wonderful and relatively stress free. The guides knew all the best places and spoke American English. We hired them through the hotel and I have no idea what the company name is. Sorry about that.

Poliance: Thanks for your good wishes for my daughter and her in-laws. This is a tragic situation and all the worse because it was self-inflicted. Her DBIL drank himself into this sad condition. :broken_heart: Good wishes for a fun experience at Zumba. It is both exercise and fun. Excellent choice. My friend loves it, but I can't participate because of knee issues. I can't make the sideways moves. I have yoga and cycling to keep me fit.

DJ: I was going to call the Changeling a whippersnapper, but you beat me to it! I hope she feels suitably welcomed.

Marceyln: We live in Oregon which is supposedly a wet place, but I can't even imagine that much rain in such a short time. Good luck to everyone. Stay safe. :flowerforyou:

Terri: So good to see you!

Sylvia: I'm so glad you're FREE! (and here!)

Penny: You live in a beautiful place and your posts sow us how wonderful it is. I never would have imagined a wonderful community such as yours in such an extreme location. You've expanded my knowledge of the world and my imagination. :bigsmle:

CJ: My mom left certain things to my children and I have hem. They don't want them, except for a carved trunk circa WWII that both kids want. GRRR!

Baja Dreamin: Log every bite and swallow. Measure your food with scales of other measuring devices. Don't guestimate portions. Move more. If I can lose, anyone can. :flowerforyou:

Kim: Great photo of you!

Heather: I'm sure your language skills will meet your needs during travel.

Gloria: I am so glad to hear from you! Congratulations on a great birthday celebration with your daughters. The high here was supposedly 88. It sure has been a nice day. :star:

Marcelyn: I hope your home stays dry inside and that you stay safe. Your photos are amazing. They do a great job of documenting what is happening. :flowerforyou:

Just this minute I am feeling grateful for my blessings. We spent the day washing our deck and it is now ready for summer. The sky is blue and I can just make out the silver of the moon across the way. Best of all, DH has volunteered to rub my back if I take the dog for a walk.

    Counting my blessings.

Kim, now I know why I was never invited to my high school reunion. I can not imagine a committee going through the list and dividing them in piles if boring and exciting.

Heather, Bea is so precious. When I came home from the hospital with Christina my Mom stayed with me for a week. I remember me, Mom and Norma all standing in front of newborn Christina laying on the changing table talking about that first bath. She was so much smaller than Norma's first child was so she was hesitant. I sure was so Mom just took her and into the kitchen we went. I always enjoyed the diaper changing with both my DGDs. Christina had perfected changing them on the foot rest of her recliner. But to me changing their diapers was that one private time I had with them. Singing and talking about Grandma and Grandpa and the wonderful things we would do. So I always took them into the nursery and changed them on the changing table, the same table as when Christina was a baby.

We have our old nurse's club that tries to meet once a month for lunch. Tomorrow we are going to the home of one of the girls. She has a farm and her daughter has a goat farm next to hers. So we will eat and then go to her daughter;s and feed the baby goats, born yesterday and some others, see how she makes her goat cheese and if it works out see the last Momma goat deliver. I have no idea what Diana puts in her enchilada but that's what for dinner. Can't wait. Unfortunately a couple of the girls have really cut down coming to eat with us. So it is sometimes 2 of us but we were best friends at work anyway. So I will just listen to all of what you are saying about dropping a friend and realize that it is not me pulling away but them.

Gloria - so glad you popped in. Happy belated birthday

    Chris - I'm envious!

Only maj'd once tonight. Working on the mermaid at ceramics. This is going to be a lot of work. I really want to get some grass in so we might not go to ceramics Wed. but work in the yard after the Newcomer board meeting.

Supposed to volunteer at the Green Room tomorrow. When I get home we'll probably work on the yard some. Hard boiling some eggs right now so that they'll cool before I put them in my salad.

Haven't posted for awhile, have had health problems with mom. She woke up n couldn't walk, off to ER n a hospital stay. She had 4 weeks of rehab n now back home. I think she should be in assistance living, she wanted home. Hired morning help n Eve help, PT 3 times weekly, OT weekly, nurse weekly n social worker visits. I have been a little busy! I hope this works, she's 93, wants to die in her home. Prayers are needed for her safety.
Same time my 47 year old niece is diagnosed with Parkinson's. Just purchased a 3 story house with baths n bedrooms up.
As this is going on her mother my DSIL is being tested for deminisa n Parkinson's.

Lots of family meetings, other people are worse off. God is with us n walks our journey together. Gayle Minneapolis
