@theslightedgeforever Oh that's good to practice for maintenance. Yes, it does feel good when the scale starts moving down. What is it about the weekends that are a struggle with exercise? Is it you are too busy?

@TeresaW1020 I do, and am, (as of yesterday, I decided to officially start Keto yesterday) tracking my carbs in MyFitnessPal premium. On Reddit, I found a script that you can install in Chrome (or I think also Firefox) that adds a column to MFP to make is show net carbs!: https://github.com/Surye/mfp-keto-userscript You have to first install the Tampermonkey app (see the link on the page above), and then click on "mfpketo.user.js" and it will automatically do it. I think that is how I installed it. I don't know how keto-friendly this menu is, I might have to tweak things, but here's my first keto week's menu:
Slow Cooker Pork Carnitas + Low-Carb Keto Cheese Taco Shells + Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers (we had the tacos for dinner and the poppers for a snack and let me tell you, these were delicious recipes!!!)
Asian Baked Salmon (reduce honey down to 1 Tbsp) + roasted zucchini
Paleo Italian Pot Roast + Creamy Garlic Parmesan Brussel Sprouts with Bacon
Seasoned Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts + Simple Cauliflower Keto Casserole
    Personal Portobello Pizza
Easy Shredded Harrisa Chicken + Garlic Parmesan Roasted Carrots

Teresa, I'm sorry you felt like an outsider. I've felt like that in groups before, it's no fun. How wonderful that you won the grand prize!!! I'm sure you will have that gain off in no time. Just get right back on the old horse. ;)

@cbabie @its_cleo Hello dears. I hope you guys are okay?

Hello all! I went over my macros yesterday, I stayed up too late and got hungry and then my husband made a healthy dessert and I had some of it and that is what pushed me over the macros. One day does not make a failure though.

So, Teresa, here is a picture of my monkeyed with MFP. Keep in mind this is the premium version, so I can have a goal of a certain number of calories per meal (for example, 500 for lunch in this instance).

@trooworld Do you like the premium version? Have you had it for a while? Sounds like you're off to a great start with the keto and fasting.

Yeah I am ok. I feel like I am getting back to myself. I think I really went off the rails for the last couple weeks due to work stress, unusually bad PMS, and some other personal stuff. Plus bc I was working alot I didn't have as much time to exercise, and that also affects my motivation. I'm off for a week now and I feel like I can catch my breath.

With food, I don't have any goal except to track. Next week I will start at maintenance and see if I can be successful for a couple weeks. Before I had my calories set in MFP to lose a pound a week and I was never successful. So this time I'm going to try one level at a time- maintenance, 1/2 week. To ease into and maybe be more successful longer term.

@teresaw2010 I have totally been there lol. On the one hand- eh, it is just an occasional event, don't beat yourself up too much about it. The only time I succeed at events like that is if I don;t eat any sweets. Just make an iron rule. Bc I cannot manage moderation. My family's xmas party last year, I tried to be like I can have sweets up to my calories limit. Well I see a couple plates with like 4 kinds of squares, cookies, etc and that's it I have to have like two of each lol. So cool you won the grand prize.

@theslightedgeforever I think trying out maintenance is a smart idea. I read a lot of people struggle with that.

@TrishasTime yeah sorry the first week is so rough. It's too bad they couldn't give you a reduced schedule. I would rest all you can and hopefully next week will be better.

On my week off I'm just doing little errands. Taxes. And shopping around for odds and ends. I also have some stuff I'm going to try to sell on kijiji- an air conditioner, some curtains and curtain rods.

Yesterday I saw a Queen cover band and that was fun though I'm not a big Queen fan or anything.

Today I'm trying to make chili. About 6 months ago I tried this chili recipe and it was great and now I have no idea where it is or how I made it lol. @trooworld if you have any good chili recipes let me know!

@its_cleo I’ve had premium for a couple of years now. I got it because I like to have three different calorie levels; higher on Thursdays and Saturdays (it fits in with my social schedule) then lower on three days a week and then the MFP goal of 1500 on two days. Plus it ranks the foods that are higher in carbs for instance that I’ve eaten during the week. This helped with my moderated carb diet when I became prediabetic. I can see at a glance what I need to reduce.

I think your plan of going it slow sounds good. Because if what you are doing isn’t working then you need to find something that will. Results are what you are looking for. The journey is just experiments that we try. I’ve lost the same 10-15 for three years. This time I’m going to maintain that loss because I’ve added in some maintenance practice days.

One of my lessons was about saying “I used to be that way”. You said I cannot manage moderation. What we repeatedly tell ourselves becomes reality. The brain will immediately pull up a slide show of all the times you couldn’t manage moderation. Then you say see? Told you. So now it’s good to say I used to have problems managing moderation but now I can (fill in the blank). Even if it’s not true the first time. It could be I can go to my family’s Xmas party and only take one of each kind of cookie and imagine yourself doing it. (You’ve just given your brain new slide show material)

The Queen band sounds fun. I’m a huge fan. But of course I’m old enough to have roller skated to the original songs. Lol.

@TeresaW1020 Yes I’m sick of the roller coaster. I keep playing around with the same 10-15 lbs This year is different.

Remember one of our lessons in the 100 day challenge. You took a pause in your eating plan. You didn’t blow your diet. Now your going to hit the play button and resume your journey. So now you know one of your roadblocks and can plan successfully for next time. Just another learning experience. That grand prize sounds wonderful. I like to get away (too bad DH doesn’t 😂)

@trooworld You asked about weekends and exercise. Just the opposite of too busy. Dh is home and my routine gets off. I like to do my exercise in the mornings and weekend mornings are spent with him. I’m still trying to come up with a weekend plan that will become a habit. We had one that was working before I fell and hurt my knee. Then got sick. We would go to the mall on Saturday after breakfast out and walk. That takes care of one day. So we need to get back to that. You’re right. One day does not make you a failure.

I stayed within my food boundaries. Exercised for 64 min. Did not meet water goal.

@its_cleo I just got the premium version and I like it so far. I only got it because I needed to be able to aim for certain macros with the keto diet. If I was just aiming to keep below a certain number of calories, I probably wouldn't have gotten the premium, it doesn't have enough bells and whistles to pay for. I think there is a 30-day free trial though, so you could see if it was for you? Yes, I hope I am off to a good start! I feel pretty good. :) Your goals sound like a good plan--- good luck! Chili...I LOVE chili! Here are a couple of my favorites:
    Vegetarian: https://www.budgetbytes.com/slow-cooker-vegetarian-lentil-chili/#wprm-recipe-container-38551
    Regular simple chili: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/16235/debdoozies-blue-ribbon-chili/
Another regular chili recipe I like: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/25687/chili-ricks/

@theslightedgeforever Ah I see. It sounds like you have a good plan for Saturdays. I hope you find your plan for Sundays...even if it is just walking to Leslie videos on Sundays for 10 minutes?

Hi all. Well, I've GAINED 1.5 lbs over last week in my first week of shaking things up. I'm not disheartened, I'm not too surprised, my body is getting used to a new way of doing things and it may not be used to it yet. I did lose 2 lbs in the last few days so things are starting to work. I'm up early today, I'm going to go for a walk even though my foot will hurt afterward.

@trooworld thanks those recipes look great! I especially like the one with chocolate, I will give it a try.

I will likely stick with MFP as it is for now, I was curious about the changes though. Im actually kind of amazed it has so much functionality for free. The only thing is I wish they would vet the food entries, ie like nutrition facts for one item can have 10 different listings with different values. It just makes it hard to trust, and then I feel like I have to doublecheck everything or save my own.

@theslightedgeforever ah yeah it's hard when your routine is out of whack. I guess maybe try to come up with a weekend routine?

Lol- rollerskating to Queen? Was that a thing? I know you're right about moderation and sending our brain down a different path. I do that when I'm exercising alot- when I start out on a run I picture myself running the last block home and think- you can do it! It really does help.

So today I did stairs 5x100. Then I am still in this gym challenge for April, so then I went to the gym for 30 minuntes and just did some stretching and some arm/back work. Mostly rows and row variations. My trainer has been away so he is back Thursday and I'm looking forward to it.

So far with no real goal I am eating moderately healthy, just probably my intake is slightly up. That is okay. I will set my sights on maintenance starting next Sunday after my vacation is almost over :)

@its_cleo Yes, they do give away a lot of functionality for free, it's amazing! re: the food entries...I do agree. I don't have quite so much a problem with that, as most of my foods rely on custom recipes but then again, those recipes use food entries, so I guess I do! ;)

Hello all. I did go for a walk yesterday morning before work, a short 20-minute walk. I was a bit scared as we don't live in the best area of the city and it was still dark out, but I made it home okay. I also took a 15-minute walk in the morning at work, which was nice. I ended the day under my calories, 100% tracked!

    Good morning!

@trooworld, That is cool that you can get your net carbs on MFP. I put the Carb Master app on my phone but haven’t done it yet. They have a free version that I read was really good. Don’t beat yourself up for gaining. I did too the first week I started IF. Just stick to it, girl!! B)

@theslightedgeforever, thanks for the second 100-day challenge journal. I am seriously going to try to keep up this time! :)

@its_cleo, I agree that I need to make eating no sweet an iron rule too! Ever since I began last Thursday it’s been a daily battle to get focused again. I would have loved to see a good Queen cover band. They were one of my favorite groups back in the 80’s. :)

Uggghhhh!! As of this morning, my weight on the scale is up 2 lbs. I really don’t want to go to WW, but if I can manage it I will be going. I have to meet the guy who is doing our church floors in just a few minutes and I’m not sure if I want him to be on time or late so I can skip weigh in! :D Like the slightedge said I have to hit the play button and resume my eating plan. I really want my mind to get back in the groove where I was at before my conference and the pizza party at the church last Sunday. And for the weight to come back off!! :/

I just typed out this long reply to you all and instead of hitting post reply I hit DONE and it took me back to menu and poof. Gone.

So we’ll just talk about me. 😬 I’ve started my 100 day journey again. My maintenance experiment worked for the 5 days. My range was -1/+1.7 and I gained 0.6 lbs. so I’m extremely pleased. Now onto losing another 10-12 lbs.

I stayed within my food boundaries. Took a rest day but got in 15 min walk. Water goal met. Journal done. Big sticker day.

@TeresaW1020 I knew there was an adjustment period, so I didn't. It paid off...stay tuned. ;) Sorry you had a gain. Just get right back on the horse though, you were doing well on your plan. Do what you were doing! You'll get back into the groove. You can do it, girl!

@theslightedgeforever Girl, I don't know how many times I have to tell you all to type in Notepad and copy and paste your response into the window! ;) Unless you are doing it on your phone, in that case, I have no answers for you lol. Congratulations on successfully completing your maintenance window! You have proven you will be able to maintain your weight loss. You rocked the challenge and you will rock maintenance, too! :D

Hi all. Well, I am down..........6.2 lbs since last Wednesday!!! I know I said I was gaining but I suddenly started losing! I'm extremely pleased with this. I'm at the lowest weight I've been at since January. I've been hovering around my macro goals.

    Good morning!!

@theslightedgeforever, I hate when that happens!! I agree with trooworld and you need to write your response in Notepad or Word (which is what I do). ;) Good job on maintaining for the 5 days!! You are so focused that you will for sure lose the weight that you want to lose. I also started the journal and I'm on day 4. Today, I will stay on my plan!! :)

@trooworld, Yayyyyyy on the amazing weight loss!! 6.2 lbs is awesome!!! I know you are super excited about that! B)

Today, I have my head back in the game and I am not going to be derailed by anything! As it says on a little sign on my computer and my treadmill...I refuse to sacrifice what I want MOST for what I want in the moment!! For some reason I seem to forget that but NOT today!! ;)

@trooworld Woohoo on the 6+ lbs. that’s awesome. Continue down the road. I do type this all out on my phone so......

@TeresaW1020 Love that quote. You’re back in the game so results will follow soon. Did you make it to WW on time?

Stayed within my food boundaries, exercised for 67 min, did not meet water goal, no journaling. Little sticker day.

@TeresaW1020 I am, although I know it is only water weight lol! But it's nice to lose a lot in the first week. Write that mantra down and put it on the fridge, put it in the car on a sticky, put it in your wallet by your debit card...flood your life with it lol! You've got this!

@theslightedgeforever Thanks! As I said to Teresa, I know it's just water weight but it's nice to get a nice turbo boost. ;)

I stayed within my macro goals yesterday. I found a trick for when I'm hungry, it sounds totally weird and like it won't work but it did: put 1/4 tsp of SEA SALT under your tongue and let it dissolve every two hours until you are going to eat. I did that from 8:30-12 and it really worked. I wasn't hungry.

Morning! So I’m a WW fan, i had been doing online off & on for 24 years. I recently took a nutrition coaching course & realized that I needed more than sp’s. That & my labs sucked! Yep elevated triglycerides & cholesterol. So I have decided to give MFP a try! I cancelled my subscription to WW yesterday, that will save me $200.00 a year! So far I’m very impressed with how well it works with my new nutrition knowledge. I can now say I’m practicing what I preach to my patients 😀! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Hi @stephtra49 welcome! MFP is pretty good, especially if you're knowledgable about nutrition. I think WW is a simpler approach for people that don't want to think about macros etc. Both are good, just different approaches.

Cool you took a nutrition course! What kind of course was it? Something online?

@trooworld losing water weight is the best lol! I don't care what it is either. Just feels good. The salt thing is interesting. Did you read about it somewhere?

@theslightedgeforever hard typing on the phone. I pretty much don't try, although it is inconvenient. Congrats on the maintenance! And now phase 2- rooting for you. Great you exercised 67 mins!

@TeresaW1020 you got this! You have come so far already.

So I have gone ahead and set MFP for maintenance. It seems high 1800 base. But I am aiming for about 1600 and I won't eat my exercise calories. Then if I slip I will have a buffer. Part of me is like- it's not good enough, ramp it up ie go for a bigger calorie reduction, but another part of me is like I just tried that and couldn't sustain it. So for the moment I will stick with this and see if I can actually be successful for a few weeks before adjusting.

My trainer is back from vacation and I see him later- I'm so glad, it does help me to focus a little bit more. Today I also went for a run.

Also - I have this window air conditioner I have been trying to sell and maybe I have a buyer. Just $50 but honestly I was going to throw it out to get rid of clutter. So it's not a deal yet but we'll see.

I hope everyone has a beautiful day and long weekend! Happy early Easter :)

@stephtra49 Welcome! How wonderful to have the knowledge of a nutrition course. Have a wonderful day, too! :) By the way, you sound like a good nurse, wanting to take extra classes to educate your patients!!!

@its_cleo My husband heard something about it and then I heard it on a podcast with a keto specialist that told me the amount and how often to take it. I couldn't believe it actually worked! That's a good idea to practice maintenance. You can do it! I hope you sell your air conditioner. Happy early Easter to you as well! :)

@TrishasTime wishing you well, Trish! Miss you!

Hi all. I see I need to make some treats that fit into my diet, as for the past two days, I've fallen victim to what is in our break room: I've eaten about 1 oz of chocolate Weds, and 2 oz of chocolate and half of a chocolate chip cookie yesterday. :( I will make some treats that fit my plan this weekend so this will not happen. The good news is that I have tracked everything.

    Good morning!

@stephtra49 Welcome! I'm still going to my WW meetings even though I'm not really following their plan. I do like the accountability of the scale and the people at my meetings but I don't know what I will do in the long term. Ideally, I would reach my goal and then it would be free. :D I look forward to getting to know you!

@trooworld, your salt trick doesn't sound weird to me at all! After my 16th hour of fasting, I find taking some salt to be so helpful. I use pink Himalayan salt now but Dr. Berry really recommends Redmond's salt so I might buy some of that. I will either toss some in my mouth and wash it down with water or put it in a cup of water and drink it hot. Hot salt water is weird but strangely satisfying. :D Do let me know what treats you make. I have been looking for things that won't cause an insulin spike as candy does. Evil candy!!! >:)

@theslightedgeforever, yes I made it to WW and faced the music. 2.2 lbs gain from my conference. :/ I'm a little behind on my journalling but plan to catch up next week. Just gotta get through Easter weekend!

@its_cleo, you will find that sweet spot for yourself where you can eat and be satisfied and still maintain your weight. Happy Easter to you! :)

@TrishasTime, hello dear! You are in my thoughts and prayers. Be good to yourself. <3

Well, it's here! Easter weekend!! :#o:) Yesterday, my pastor took the staff to lunch and I didn't make the best choices, but I've decided to cut myself a little slack until this weekend is over. I have a ton of little projects to get done today, including setting up a bunch of mugs with chocolate candy for our visitor's gift. I plan to do it first thing while I'm fasting so that the candy doesn't end up in my mouth! :| Then tonight is our Good Friday service where I am not doing anything but sitting and enjoying the service. Tomorrow morning I have to be at the church at 8 am to set up for the egg hunt. Over 9000 eggs!!! :o There is a chance for rain so we are all praying that it will move or hold off! I'm teaching children's church on Easter morning and have most of my lesson planned out. It's going to be super fun and I think the kids will really love it.

OK, I'm off to get the day started! Have a great day everyone! <3

@TeresaW1020 Hope it doesn't rain! I'm sure it will be fun either way, the kids will have a ball and I bet hiding them is fun too. I hope the service is nice tonight.

@TrishasTime thinking of you! Take gentle care, just focus on yourself and recovering.

@trooworld making your own snacks or treats is a great idea. Are you trying to do keto? there must be lots of recipes online. I've been trying protein bar recipes. Nothing has knocked my socks off but they are still better than buying them.

That's great @stephtra49, there is diabetes in my family but fortunately I don't have it. But I try to eat healthy, sometimes more successful than others.

Well yesterday I was under my maintenance calorie goal so that was a success. Today I am going to do some stairs and hill work if the weather cooperates - it is rainy here too.

Tomorrow I volunteered to do spring cleaning at the Buddhist meditation centre I go to sometimes. We meditate for 30 minutes, do some spring cleaning, and then they have a vegetarian lunch. It's a nice way to spend half a day.

@TeresaW1020 I use Himalayan salt. I'm glad you don't find it strange! lol I'll try it in water. I'll let you know about the treats. I need to try something! Did you get all those eggs done yet? I hope all the kids have fun and it doesn't rain on them, although when I was a kid I always wanted to play in mud puddles but my mom wouldn't let me lol. Have a great day, too!

@its_cleo I am indeed doing keto. Started last Saturday. I've found some recipes for treats and I also just ordered an interesting keto treat cookbook. I hope the weather cooperates with your plans. Congrats on staying under your maintenance calorie goal! :) The day at the Buddhist center sounds nice and relaxing. Enjoy!

@theslightedgeforever Buckle down and go get it!

Hello all. I was within my macros yesterday which was nice. I've been doing really well tracking, I've tracked everything since Monday, April 8th. For me, tracking is very important. Pre-tracking is how I track, it's like a map for my eating.

On another note, I normally get up like 4-5 times a night thinking I have to go to the bathroom (whether or not I really do, it's an anxiety thing, or maybe a menopause thing). I decided to buy a weighted blanket (I bought a 20 lb one) because I heard that it can reduce the times you get up in the middle of the night. The first couple of nights, there was an increase in REM time and maybe I got up one less time. Last night, I didn't wear my Fitbit, but I can tell you that I only got up ONCE! I got a wonderful sleep. We'll see if the same thing happens tonight.

@theslightedge social events are difficult. I hope at least they were enjoyable. Like you say, it is just a pause- you can get back on track, one meal at a time.

@trooworld I agree about tracking it is super important. That is great about the blanket! I have that problem too occasionally, with me it is absolutely anxiety. But I read an article just a couple weeks ago about different sleep aids and it mentioned the weighted blankets. Glad it's working out!

Yesterday I did the stairs 5x100 and hill 1 lap. The hill is equivalent to the stairs.

Calories I was over by 71. My own fault bc I had pasta for dinner and I didn't track it until today and found I was over. But I'm still under my weekly cals so it;s okay.

Today is rainy again but I will try to run and then take a break tomorrow. I'm excited- I said I was a slow runner. I also run walk and haven't been able to do more than 90s run/90s walk for a couple years. My breathing always gives out. So I've really been working at my breathing and the stairs are helping increase my lung capacity too. So today i will do 90s/90s again and then I will try to increase to 2 mins run/90 sec walk. Not much of an increase I guess but it is huge for me!

@trooworld interesting in the weighted blanket. I have never heard of those. Although I wonder if I would feel imprisoned. Good for you for tracking.

@its_cleo I always enjoy my social activities. Usually not with food though. I’m better there than at home usually. How do you work on your breathing. I remember trying to run the Couch to 5K program and was crying when I finally hit the 3 min mark. I found it easier to run outside than on the treadmill. My goal is to finish that one day. Your stair numbers look good

Stayed within calories but that’s about it.

    Happy Easter!!! o:)

@trooworld, I have heard about those weighed blankets and always thought that I would hate the feeling of something heavy on me. I'm so glad it seems to be working for you. I get up at least 2 to 5 times through the night and it's been very interesting tracking my sleep with my new Fitbit. I sure would like it if I didn't get up so much! Good job on keeping up with your tracking. That is where I've really slipped but I'm back at it this week!

@its_cleo, it sounds like you are doing great with your exercise and learning how to increase your lung capacity. Do you just do outside walk/runs or do you have a treadmill or gym for the bad weather days? I just do inside treadmill walking but I think it might be a good change of pace to get outside. :)

@theslightedgeforever, sounds like we are both struggling a little our first 10-days of the new challenge. Let's pull it together and make these next 10 days the best ever! Now that my schedule is freeing up I'm going to concentrate on the journalling and getting my head back on track. :)

Well, the Easter egg hunt yesterday was great and awful! :D The weather was terrible! It was freezing cold, windy and raining off and on the whole time. But we persevered and set up anyway. All our wonderful volunteers came out and worked their butts off and we had well over 200 people show up. The kids loved the egg hunts and I got a ton of amazing pictures! I used parts of my body that haven't been used for a long time and I am still sore and worn out this morning. But it's Easter and I have to leave soon and go teach a bunch of kids about how much Jesus loves them. I'm doing it with a bag of Skittles!! :DB)

Here is just one pic that I took that shows my church and a huge line of pre-schoolers ready to swarm like locust on some plastic candy-filled eggs! :D

@its_cleo Yes, for me it's definitely anxiety too. I think you are doing great with the exercise!

@theslightedgeoforever I was wondering if I would feel that way, I get absolutely panicky when I get a shirt stuck on my head lol. But I don't feel imprisoned at all. It's more like a hug! :D Congrats on staying within your calories, that's something to celebrate!

@TeresaW1020 Happy Easter to you as well! Yes, I get up constantly! The blanket feels more like a hug than imprisonment, I swear! I knew you'd get back at it!!! Wow, look at all those eggs! I hope your lesson goes well. Skittles! That will be a fun lesson, do they get to eat the Skittles afterward? ;)

Hello all. After I finish my coffee, I'm going for a walk. Today is the day of the city's best farmer's market, so my husband and I are going to go to that and pick up a few things. Then it will be time to meal prep for the week. Want to see how I'm eating now that my meal plan has changed? Here's what we are making this week:
Easy Rib Eye Roast + Italian Roasted Mushrooms and Veggies + Creamed Kale
    Easy Low-Carb Cauliflower Fried Rice
Chicken breaded in Better than Popeye’s Chicharonne Breading and stuffed with cheese and roasted red peppers + Butter-fried green cabbage
Spinach and Feta Turkey Meatballs (but we are using ground beef) + salad
    Fathead Low Carb Keto Pizza

    EMPOWERED.

@theslightedgeforever with the breathing- it's just focussing on deep breathing. If you breathe shallow, most people will have a hard time. So I have been concentrating on deep deep breath in slow to the count of 5 or as much as I can, then push all the air out to a count of 4 or something. The more you do that, the more your capacity for breathing increases. I don't really understand how it works lol.

But I run pretty slow and focus on that if I am going uphill or something where I would normally gasp and it's really helping. I dont have to do it all the time, just tough patches.

Unfortunately I didnt get to go yesterday it was just pouring.

@TeresaW1020 I normally go outside, but my gym has a treadmill. I use it sometimes, I just get bored on a treadmill. That picture looks great! Is that a slide for the kids? I bet they loved that. I used to love the bouncy castles when I was a kid.

    What does your fitbit track?

@trooworld enjoy the farmers market. I wanted to go here yesterday but I had other plans so will have to try next weekend. The blanket sounds cool. I can see how it would be comforting. It's like babies like to be swaddled, why not grownups?! :)

    Happy Easter @stephtra49 !

Well I was doing well with the exercising but I took yesterday and today off and I've been a couch potato lol. Lots of tv and surfing the net. Tomorrow I'll be back at it, and work again on Tuesday.

    Have a great day all!
