@fabgeekmom Ah ok . I'll look for that. Good job with the walk! That was nice of your cousin. That does sound like a good dinner.

Hi all. I wasn't feeling well, so I came home early from work. I started feeling better later in the day, so I did a home strength training workout (after all, I said, when traffic was light/when I got home early!). I didn't eat lunch, so I had my leftover salad for dinner.

@fabgeekmom My daughter says I complain when it's too hot and I complain when it's too cold. I'm like Goldilocks. I bet kids today don't even know who that is. I've never had fontina cheese. I looked it up and said Emmental could be substituted. I like that.

@trooworld Wow, I can see a big difference. You are doing great. I prefer soggy pizza. lol I was probably forced to eat something crispy as a child as I don't like anything crispy. Oh rice crispy squares. LOL Good you are listening to your body and worked it but still rested.

I went to the eye dr today for my annual visit. Extremely dry eyes and beginnings of cataracts. I told him I'm too young for that.

@trooworld I’m sorry you didn’t feel well but glad you felt better. Good job with the exercise. @theslightedgeforever I’m like Goldilocks, too. There’s a lot of stuff we know about that the kids today don’t get. I have dry eyes, too, and have cataracts. cataracts. Probably it’ll be soon for surgery. I don’t dread it as DH is seeing so much better. Hi, all. Today was a swim day. We had last night’s leftovers for dinner.

@theslightedgeforever Thanks ! Ah, I see lol. Yes, trying to listen to my body more. Oh no, I'm sorry about the dry eyes and cataracts! Did they say you need to use lubricating drops? I hvae dry eyes and that's what they told me.

@fabgeekmom Thank you ! Good job with the swim. I had leftovers last night, too.

Hi all. Traffic has been light all week, I think because school is out and so the teachers and college kids aren't on the road. Since I got home early, I took one of my dogs for a longer walk. She didn't want to go for a longer walk, but I forced her lol. She wanted to get back to my husband who doles out treats that time of day (pieces of fruits and veggies). Today, I have my 6-month appointment with the surgeon. Hopefully, he is pleased with my progress. I am. Although I did realize something: I have been eating too much at my meals...I looked back through the eating instructions yesterday and it says no more than 4-6 oz per meal, half of that protein. I started weighing my recipe portions and the salad I ate the other night was 7 oz and the portion of food I had last night was about 7 oz (but I didn't eat it all). So, not too bad but I do need to reel it in a bit. I'm still losing so it must be pretty close.

@trooworld Good job on the walk even though the dog resisted. LOL on how she preferred your DH’s snacks. That’s interesting about the amount of food you have been eating. The most important part is that you are losing weight. Hi, all. It’s hot here but still not very humid. I was able to walk this morning and sit under the umbrella on the front porch. It’s nice sometimes to be outside and not inside with the AC. Dinner tonight is ATK’s One pan orzo with shrimp and zucchini. I’m cooking.

@fabgeekmom Thank you ! Yeah, she's very food motivated. Both the dogs are pretty food motivated but Violet is even more food motivated than Daisy. I agree, about the eating/losing weight thing. That's good it's not humid there. Good job with the walk. I love sitting outside and just watching the birds or reading. I hope you liked the recipe.

Hello all. I had my 6-month checkup and it went pretty well. He is pleased with my weight loss and asked what my goal was. I told him to get down to 155/165 lb range and he said that is totally doable within the 1 year period. That's about 30-40 more lbs. He is having me double my iron supplement as my iron is lower than it should be. He wants me to do aerobic exercise where I am slightly out of breath at least two days a week and weight train two days a week. So, walking the dogs isn't going to cut it. I guess I'll do YouTube videos, hike, or water aerobics. For dinner, I made myself Buffalo Chicken Salad, which is served in a lettuce wrap. It's a Skinnytaste recipe. I used canned chicken breast and it was super easy to make and pretty good. I would make it again. I maintained this week: I lost 0.2 lbs, which is okay I guess. My muscles are probably retaining water from starting to lift. Speaking of, tonight is a gym night.

@trooworld That’s good news and good advice from the surgeon. Hi, all. Today was a swim day. Dinner was air fried tofu, sticky rice, edamame and salad. We didn’t have our usual steak dinner as we are eating heavy this weekend.

@fabgeekmom Yes . Good job with the swim! Dinner sounds good. Good idea to balance out your weekend eating.

Hi all. I worked all day and then went to the gym. I had a good workout. I forgot to start the workout on my watch, which annoyed me lol. I started it 11 minutes after I actually started my watch, so it didn't track the full workout. Oh well, my body knows I did it! I made Grilled Shrimp Tacos with Peach Salsa (a Skinnytaste recipe) for dinner, and it was pretty good. I made it on the stove. This morning, I'm going to the gym and then probably to coffee. Later, I have to pick up groceries and then go to a baby shower for someone at work. I wish I hadn't said I was going to go, I'm not looking forward to it.

@trooworld The shrimp recipe sounds good. Good job with the gym. Too bad about the baby shower. Hi, all. I’m lazy this morning and am still finishing my coffee. I put a pork butt with apple cider vinegar, salt and red pepper flakes in the slow cooker for Eastern NC barbecue. DS is making coleslaw and we’re also having frozen French fries. Pretty easy meal. My daughter and her husband are eating with us. I’ll go for a walk as it’s cloudy and hopefully not too hot.

@fabgeekmom It was pretty good . Thank you! That slow cooker recipe sounds good. Your dinner was probably delicious between it all! I hope you enjoyed the walk.

Hi all. The gym went well. My lower body was very tired after my workout, I had to hold the handrail at the gym to make it up and down the stairs to stretch and then leave lol. The baby shower ended up being fun: I was worried there would be a bunch of people I didn't know there but it ended up being a small group of about 8 of my favorite people from work, so it was okay. It was really well done and a lot of fun, dare I say. After that, I met my husband at a beer place and we had non-alcoholic beers. I didn't need dinner because I had appetizers at the baby shower. Today, we are going to the county fair.

@trooworld Good job on the gym. I’m glad the baby shower was fun. Not eating dinner showed restraint. I hope the fair was fun. Hi, all. I decided to ride my bike today as it was hot and humid outside. Plus buggy from all the rain we have had. My bike workout was fun as I use the Peloton app. Since today is Father’s Day, we having the family over for dinner. DS is making lasagna. My cousin is bringing a salad. Plus we have garlic bread and the cake DS made. It is my DH’s favorite: yellow cake with chocolate frosting. None of it is made from a mix. DS used a 1,2, 3,4 cake recipe. That is 1 cup of butter (2sticks), 2 cups sugar, 3 cups self rising flour and 4 eggs. Plus some vanilla and 1 cup of milk. Easier and better than a mix!

@fabgeekmom sounds like a great dinner , hope you have a nice Father’s Day! I’ve never tried Peloton but some of the workouts sound fun.

@trooworld , love the before and after photos. Rockin it at the gym is always good. I actually ran into my old trainer last week. It was nice to see him.

So I fell of the calorie counting wagon for about the last week. Actually I just felt like I needed a mental break from tracking. And I basically know what is under/over my goal bc I eat the same stuff all the time. So I did pretty well until yesterday when I had too much junk- beer, chips, and some chocolate lol.

However- I’ve done really well on limiting how much takeout I eat- my goal was only 4x a month, and so far half way through I have only done take out 2x.

So I’m back at calorie tracking tomorrow. I’m not sure how much exercise I will be able to do this week bc I’m pretty busy at work but I will try.

@fabgeekmom Thank you ! The fair was fun. Good job with the bike! Your celebration sounds nice. I hope you enjoyed it. That sounds like a nice, easy cake recipe.

@its _cleo Thank you! That's a nice blast from the past to see your trainer. I get the need to take a break from tracking, it can be so monotonous. Good job with the limiting take out!

Hi all. I did not sleep well: I woke up at 2 am and just drifted in and out of light sleep until 3 am when I couldn't sleep anymore, so I got up. I am off today as Employee Appreciation Day. I plan on going to the gym at 5 am and getting it over with. This will be the first time I go without my husband. I'm a bit nervous, but I will be fine. Yesterday's gym visit was good, but again, I forgot to start the workout on my watch when I did weights. At least I remembered to start it for my 20-minute cardio session on the recumbent bike! I did a 45-minute strength training session and then the bike. We went to the fair and walked around. We were bombarded with all the crazy fair foods, but we didn't have anything. I couldn't have much if I had wanted something, but there is always this pineapple boat with shrimp and rice I sometimes get I could have had. Everything was so expensive. We decided instead to use a gift certificate for Uber Eats that we had. We went home and got Mediterranean food delivered. I got a grilled chicken wrap and ate about 1/3-1/2 of it. It wasn't very good because it arrived cold. Oh well.

@its_cleo I love my Peloton app. There’s so much to do and I never get bored. I can understand that you get tired of tracking. You didn’t do too bad and one indulgent meal won’t break you. Good job on limiting take out. @trooworld Good job on not eating food at the fair. Too bad take out wasn’t good. I’m sorry you didn’t sleep well. I hope you enjoy your day off and the gym. Hi, all. Last night was fun. Food was good, especially the cake. We have leftovers for dinner. Today is a swim day. We are going to a different center as summer events are starting at the usual center we go to.

@fabgeekmom Thank you ! I did enjoy it. I'm glad you had fun and the food was good, which doesn't surprise me...you are a family of chefs! Good job with the swim.

Hi all. I had a nice day off yesterday. I got to the gym at about 5:10 am and it already had people in it (they open at 5). Not too busy, though, but I did have to wait for a bench. I had a nice workout. Later, my husband and I went to the coffee shop and read. I made a nice dinner: Zesty Philly Cheesesteak Skillet served over a baked potato. I didn't eat much of it. I also made hummus to snack on this week.

@trooworld – sucks about the wrap. I hate ordering out and then not enjoying it. Also great going to the gym alone. I know it can be hard sometimes, even for me sometimes at my condo I struggle with it.

    @fabgeekmom enjoy the swim .

I tracked calories yesterday. My weight today was down a tiny bit so that was nice. I was tempted again last night to get takeout but I had some mango chutney in the fridge, so I got some chicken and sweet potatoes and some veggies and made that.

I’m going to try to do my physio workouts today. I saw a specialist last week and it wasn’t very helpful. They don’t want to do surgery bc my hip bones etc are still good. So I’m just supposed to keep doing physical therapy and pain management if I need it. She suggested hip injections, which my doctor suggested that in Jan as well, but I don’t want it.

My old trainer actually owns his own gym now and if he were closer I would absolutely go see him again, bc he dropped his personal training rates again. But it’s a long commute- 90 mins one way at least. So it’s just a lot for me to do that.

I’ll keep trying classes at the gym here for a while, try to enjoy the summer. I can bike and yesterday I added a little bit of length. The only thing I really cant do much is walk.

    fabgeekmom Posts: 896 Member

@trooworld Good job on the gym. The cheesesteak baked potato sounded good. @its_cleo I’m sorry the specialist wasn’t very helpful. I know you don’t want surgery. Actually I tried the injections many years ago and didn’t see much difference. What helps me is exercise, the PT exercises, medication, riding my recumbent bike, and using a topical gel called Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel. In the US it’s available online and in stores and doesn’t require a prescription. I’m not sure if it’s available in Canada. Hi, all. I went for a walk today. It was cloudy but still humid. I keep saying I’m not walking outside. It’s supposed to get hotter this week. Tonight DS made the fixings for tacos. Tonight was family night. We finished the cake from Sunday.

@Its _cleo Yes, me too! It costs so much to get stuff delivered and then to not like it. It is a bit hard to go by yourself to the gym. That's why I went as soon as I could, I knew I would try to talk myself out of it lol. Good job tracking cals and making dinner instead of take-out! I'm sorry the specialist wasn't helpful. Why don't you want the hip injections? Is there a risk? Wow that would be a long commute to the gym! I don't blame you for not wanting to do that.

@fabgeekmom Thanks and yes , it was good. Good job with the walk. Tacos sound good.

Hi all. I was pretty active at work yesterday and my body has been tired from working out so, besides walking the dogs, I took yesterday as a rest day. I'm glad I did and have no regrets. My watch says I've been sleeping better since starting to walk out but I can't tell the difference. The weather has been really nice here lately, like in the high 70s (F) to the 80s.

@trooworld That was good that you took a rest day. You have been working really hard. Hopefully you will soon feel the results of better sleep. Your weather sounds perfect. We are starting to get weather in the 90’s. Hi, all. DH and I had errands this morning so I rode my recumbent bike after lunch. It’s too hot to do anything outdoors. Tonight we are eating leftovers from last night.

@fabgeekmom I think so , too. I do hope I feel less sleepy soon. It could also be because my iron was low on my blood test, so they had me double my iron supplement. So, hopefully, that will help. Yes, the weather is really nice! 90s is too hot lol. Good job with the bike!

Hi all. It took too long to get home due to traffic and then taking care of my sister-in-law's cat last night, so we didn't get done until 6:00 pm so I got Panda Express to go for dinner. I got the super greens, string bean chicken, and kung pao chicken. It was enough food for 3 meals for me.

@fabgeekmom there is Diclofenac here , but not sure if it’s cream or pill. I did read it was effective. But either way I’m going to stick with PT and other stuff for now. ….hard to do much outdoors when it’s that hot for sure. Having the recumbent bike available as an option is great.

@trooworld The hip injections - I’m just afraid if I start that now or pills, and I need more over time it will just increase. I heard the more you do them gradually the less effective they are. I read that on the Internet so it may not be true lol. But I will wait and manage on my own for as long as I can. I’m not in pain every day, so it’s manageable. I just can’t walk much and that is frustrating. But I can bike, so that is something for now.

Rest days are important, and yeah one reason I always worked out was it helped me sleep lol. Not always, but sometimes. Good for you keeping up with it.

FOr iron- I started eating that iron fortified cereal, which tastes like sawdust but I"m hoping it will help me. I'm not on a supplement right now, but I'm getting tested again in August I think to make sure it's ok.

I’ve been doing well with calories and not getting takeout, although yesterday I snacked a little more than I needed to. Today I have to go downtown so I can still do takeout 2x this month (4 total)- so there is a sushi place I like so I will splurge and have that for lunch and it’s not too heavy.

Sat I’m going to a baseball game with my uncle, so that will be my fourth takeout day for the month.

  • fabgeekmom
    fabgeekmom Posts: 896 Member

@trooworld I know from experience that an iron deficiency can really tire you out. Hopefully with the extra iron you’ll feel better. Too bad about traffic. It’s really good that one meal can last for 3 meals. @its_cleo The bike really helps with knee and hip pain. You’re doing great with your takeout limit. I hope you enjoyed the baseball game. Hi, all. Today was a swim day. Dinner was leftover lasagna from Sunday, salad and Italian bread. I had lasagna for another meal so I put that in the freezer.

@its _cleo Ah I see. My orthopedic doctor told me that about the cortisone injections I am getting with my knee, that they are less effective over time. I'm glad you can bike. Thank you! I have to take an iron supplement because I had weight loss surgery and my body doesn't process nutrients the way someone who hasn't had surgery processes them. So, I have to take a special multivitamin + an iron supplement for the rest of my life. I hope the cereal helps your iron levels. I love sushi, I hope you enjoyed yours! Have fun at the game tomorrow.

@fabgeekmom That's what I figured , because after weight loss surgery, you are supposed to have all this energy and I'm not experiencing that. Hopefully, the iron thing gets figured out and I can experience it! Good job with the swim! I love lasagna, one of my favorite meals.

Hi all. I was really worried that I would gain weight this week because I've been taking creatine (it's known to make you gain weight when you first start taking it), but I actually lost 2 lbs. Work was annoying yesterday but I survived it lol. Traffic was light, so I got home and did an at-home strength training workout. I ate my lunch late (at 2 pm), so I just had a protein smoothie for dinner. Tonight, I think I am going to the gym, but it's my husband's birthday so he may want to go out for coffee or happy hour or something so we'll see.

Hi all. We did end up going to the gym last night. I did a 45-minute upper body weights routine followed by 20-minute recumbent bike. It felt good. @fabgeekmom Thank you ! I hope you enjoyed the swim and dinner, it sounds really good.

Hi all. Yesterday was a really fun day. The gym wasn't too busy, which was nice. I was upstairs in the stretching and ab area of the gym while this lady that was about my age was doing some stuff. She saw me doing wall push-ups and after my first set, she came over and said, "You can do more" and she took me over to the railing by the stairs and showed me a proper push-up on the rail, which was a lot more challenging and just what I needed. It was so nice of her to help me. We went to coffee 3 times yesterday! One of the times, we went to a Kurdish coffee shop and I had a drink called Qezwan. It's made from ground, roasted terebinth fruits, which are related to pistachios. It's a caffeine-free drink made with milk and a touch of sugar. It was an interesting beverage served in tiny cups. We picked up chicken shawarma bowls to go from Yelp's #1 rated restaurant (3 years ago). It was pretty tasty but I wouldn't call it my #1 favorite restaurant. I promptly spilled both of my sauces all over my living room floor lol before I ate. That was a bit of a bummer to clean up.

@trooworld sounds like an interesting drink . Nice of that woman to help. Push ups are the hardest thing lol. I used to try to do them a lot but it’s one thing I’ll never be good at. I always wanted to do pullups but that’s hard too. My trainer used to help me so I could do partial ones.

@fabgeekmom salmon and salad sounds like a nice summer meal . I did enjoy the baseball game, it was my first one this year. Will go again in August. And that was my fourth time eating out this month so no more until July.

It’s super hot here today, but I’m going to yoga this morning and then just basically tidying up the rest of the day. I will go for a walk later too. I went to the famer’s market yesterday and there was a Ukrainian baker- there are a lot of Ukrainian and Polish people in my neighbourhood, for a long time, not just recent.

Anyway I bought some perogies from her- I wouldn’t normally eat perogies but I thought I would try it because it’s one of their specialties. I had a couple yesterday and it was super good. So there are some left, I’m trying to figure out what to do with them lol. I might make some chicken and have a couple perogies with it and some veggies for dinner one night.

@trooworld That was nice of the woman to give you help. It’s always good to learn new things. The coffee sounds really good and refreshing. Too bad about the sauce on the living room floor. @its_cleo The perogies sound good. I love going to a farmers’ market. I’m glad you enjoyed the game. Good job on limiting takeout. Hi, all. It’s super hot here and we’re supposed to have a heat wave this week. I went grocery shopping to get ingredients for omelets tomorrow morning as DS has a day off. I also got ingredients to make 2 ingredient pizza for tomorrow night. We have some Greek yogurt that we have not eaten and it’s perfect for pizza. This will be traditional with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese and turkey pepperoni. We are eating at our daughter’s house tonight. She is making Skinnytaste sloppy Joe’s.

@its _cleo It was very interesting. Yes, I hope I see her in the gym again. Push-ups are hard! I'm going to do them one day. 💪 I use the pull-up assist machine at the gym to do pull-ups. I can't imagine I'll ever be strong enough to do them on my own. That's good you are still going to yoga despite the heat. I love perogies and to get them fresh from the maker, that is really special!

@fabgeekmom Yes , it really was nice. I agree, always good to learn new things. The drink was good, there was no coffee in it. Yes, I was so mad about the sauces! I'm sorry about the heat wave coming your way. I love 2-ingredient pizza.

Hi all. The gym went well yesterday. I am improving in all areas. Came home and I opened the fridge to get the natural peanut butter and the whole container of leftover chicken shawarma bowl fell out of the fridge and onto the ground! Yellow rice and chicken went everywhere. I was so mad lol. Mostly because I had to clean it up. I was not destined to eat that food lol. I met a friend at the photography museum and we took about 2 hours walking through it. It was really fun. Afterward, she offered to treat me to lunch at a cafe by the museum so we had lunch. I got the cheapest thing on the menu because it was a bit expensive and I felt bad: grilled cheese sandwich with salad. I ate about half the grilled cheese and all the salad.
