@trooworld Good job on the gym and only eating half of a grilled cheese sandwich. I seldom eat one when at a restaurant but splurged on one when I was In Yellowstone That was yummy gooey cheese! It definitely wasn’t in the cards for you to eat that chicken! Hi, all. It is really hot here. Luckily DH and I have access to an indoor pool. Swimming laps was nice. As I mentioned earlier, dinner is salad and 2 ingredient pizza. I made homemade Ranch dressing, only to find my dill plant in the front yard was fried. So I texted DS to get me some on the way home from work.

@fabgeekmom Thank you ! Yeah I couldn't believe I dropped all that food lol. I bet it did feel nice to swim in the pool. Too bad about your dill. I hope the pizza was good.

Hi all. Traffic was light on the way home but I didn't end up doing a work out, I took it as a rest day. Couple of reasons for that: I went hard at working out all weekend and then as I was taking Violet out, she got out of her harness ran up to this big husky dog and was barking at him. It shook me up so badly, I needed to sit down and calm down. So, hopefully traffic is light tonight.

@trooworld It’s good to take a day off from exercise. That was scary that your dog was barking at a big dog. She probably thought she was protecting you from the dog. Hi, all. It’s really hot here. The high today was 97 or over 100 with the heat index. I ride my recumbent bike. I had a doctor’s appointment to check my blood levels. All was good. DS made paella on the grill for dinner. It was really good. We leftovers for tomorrow and probably another day, too. The recipe was supposed to serve 8. The servings must be really large. I don’t think I could eat that much!

@trooworld that ’s a scary experience with the dog. There are tons of dogs around here, and there always seems to be lots of issues. I guess with careless owners that let their dog off leash when they shouldn’t and so on.

@fabgeekmom it has been crazy hot here too . The humidity and heat was causing a pool of water in my bathroom- a little pool, but still not good lol. So I had to turn the AC on. I don’t like using it, bc my condo is always pretty cool, but the humidity in the air was too much. So I literally had AC on and then needed sweaters and blankets.

I also love grilled cheese! Honestly, I eat a ton of cheese. It is my go to snack.

I;ve been doing well tracking. I have to go downtown today which is always a drag. But tomorrow night I’m trying a new class- it is a Mobility type of class, so I’m curious about it. I have a lot of muscle tightness so hoping it will help with stuff like that. It’s supposed to be a slow paced class.

@fabgeekmom Yeah maybe , she is afraid of everything so she may have thought she was protecting me or she may have been scared. Oh wow, that's hot! Good job with the bike. I'm glad your blood levels were good. That paella sounds good.

@its _cleo Yes! Ugh, it was awful. We have that problem with off-leash dogs, too. In our complex, there is a condo that just opens their door and lets the dog out. The dog is a little Yorkshire terrier, and it runs around in the parking lot (I'm afraid it's going to get hit!), and poops in the common areas and they don't pick it up. There's another guy that does something very similar. Rude people! I love cheese, too. It's a good snack. Good job with tracking! I hope your trip downtown is okay. That sounds like an interesting class. I hope it helps.

Hi all. I had a 90-minute meeting at work yesterday for a committee I am on now. At least they gave us lunch: Panera, I could choose a salad or a sandwich and I chose an Asian chicken salad. It ended up being very similar to what I made for dinner, so in hindsight, I would have chosen a different salad. The day went by pretty quickly since I had that long meeting and then my lunch. I got home and did a 20-minute cardio boxing workout on YouTube. I wouldn't do that particular video again as it did a lot of things that were out of my abilities, involving jumping and other movements bad for my knees. But I'll keep looking and find a better workout for me. I was wearing a blazer that a former coworker gave me so I had a coworker take a video of me wearing it to send to my former coworker. In the video, I turned slowly around 360 degrees. It was the first time I had seen myself like that, full body from all angles. I could really tell that I had lost weight.

@its_cleo Good job with tracking. I had to laugh at the image of you wearing a sweater and covering up with a blanket because the AC was on. DH and I wear flannel shirts year round. And we have our blankets to cover up, too. The mobility class sounds interesting. I hope it helps. @trooworld That’s terrible that people are so rude with their dogs. It’s always good when a day at work goes by fast. Too bad about the salad. That’s cool about the jacket and you seeing how much weight you have lost. Hi, all. Dinner was good last night and we will eat it again tonight. Today is a swim day.

@fabgeekmom Yes , it's really irritating. The head of the HOA is going to send a letter to them saying that if they do it again, they will be fined. This whole week has went by pretty fast. I'm glad dinner was good. I hope you enjoyed the swim.

Hi all. Nothing much is going on. I did decide at work, if someone asks me about my weight loss, I will tell them about my surgery. I wasn't telling people for a while. So, I told two people yesterday. One person seemed a little disappointed in my "secret". What I didn't get a chance to say was that it wasn't an easy way out, that it's been hard work. That I've had to change the way I eat and am still working on things. That I work out, too.

@trooworld I agree, the weight loss surgery was not “the easy way out.” Actually losing weight is hard and requires discipline no matter how it is done: surgery, medication, calorie counting, points, etc. You have worked hard and should tell that to anyone who challenges you. Hi, all. I rode my bike again today. DS and I went grocery shopping and bought ingredients for Saturday and an ice cream cake that he made today for my birthday on Tuesday. Tonight we are eating the paella he made Tuesday. I’m microwaving some turkey kielbasa to add to it as we have eaten most of the protein.

@fabgeekmom Yes ! Thank you for your support. Good job with the bike! Happy Birthday!

Hi all. Yay it's Friday! I'm so glad. Yesterday was a work day and traffic was kind of bad so I didn't get to work out when I got home. My husband made us dinner: he made buckwheat (groats), packaged carnitas, avocado, and seasoned pinto beans into bowls. It was really good. Today is my work-from-home day. I'm going to make a veggie soup for dinner, Summer Corn and Vegetable Soup from America's Test Kitchen. It looked really good and fresh. I just need to get some fresh basil for it. After work, we are going to the gym. I'm up 0.2 lbs, likely from taking the creatine for the past week.

@trooworld The meal your husband prepared sounds really good. The vegetable soup from ATK also sounds good. The .2 weight gain isn’t too bad, especially since you know what caused it. Hi, all. Today was a swim day. It was not as hot as it’s been lately. I think the high was 85. But it’s humid. That’s summer in the South. Tonight we had steaks and they were good.

  • trooworld
    trooworld Posts: 7,888 Member

@fabgeekmom It was really good . The soup was really good, I highly recommend it. No, it's basically maintaining...it just makes me disappointed because I've lost every week since Jan 10. Good job with the swim! Humidity makes all the difference. We don't have to deal with too much humidity here (thankfully). I'm glad you enjoyed your steaks.

Hi all. The gym was busy last night, I had to switch around my exercises because a bench was not available for me to start on. I had a nice workout and then we went to Sam's Club and Walmart for groceries. I'm so glad I made that soup during the day as we didn't get home until 7 and I was tired when we got home. The soup was really, really good! Very fresh and would be a good use of summer veggies. Today, we are going to the gym and then going to the zoo. I haven't been to the zoo in a while so it will be nice as long as my knee doesn't start hurting.

@trooworld hope you have a nice Saturday and the gym holds up . I hate that at the gym when it’s busy and you have to change the routine. It happens here at the condo gym too. …I’m glad the soup was good. I started eating buckwheat this year, instead of rice in meals. I like it.

@fabgeekmom I ’m having steaks tonight! Love steaks and burgers. …you’re right losing weight is hard regardless.

Well I didn’t make my goal of only eating out 4x in a month. I got takeout this week, and then leftovers the next day, so technically 6x in the month of June. Oh well, will try again in July.

I went to the mobility class, it was good but probably I will prioritize the yoga and pilates class, although I haven’t made it to the pilates one in a while.

Today I’m going to the Farmer’s market and a bunch of errands to run, then I’m going to relax. Beautiful day here.

I think someone mentioned something about looking for workouts…I’ve been doing this one for upper body. This one is good for me in particular bc of some of back issues I have. I think it’s a good upper body work out, but I don’t think 2 kinds of rows are necessary. Or at least- if I were to do 2 different types of rows- I don’t like the second one they do. I would do a different kind. I also throw in a dumbbell shoulder press.

@trooworld I can't believe it's been 6 months since your surgery. I'm glad it was a good report. You know plateaus will come. Just a part of the journey. But your habits and body will be changing in other ways during this time. Think of some NSV you have had recently.

@fabgeekmom I think it seems to be hot everywhere. I'm ready for the fall. My plants keep dying. The kielbasa sounds good.

@its_cleo I've never eaten buckwheat. Thanks for sharing the workout.

I went to a public gym on Thursday so I could use the sauna afterward. I'm trying things to motivate me. I always love a good sauna session. Although I could probably just sit outdoors and have the same effect. 😀 I remembered why I built my own gym in my house. Busy and couldn't get a bench when needed. One lady was sitting on the leg extension machine just scrolling through her phone. I did 2 sets on the leg curl machine and she was still just sitting there so I did the "rude" thing and asked if she was finished. She said no she'll be done soon and I said but you are doing anything but looking at your phone. I'm sure she loved me. I did some kettlebell squats in the meantime until she finally got up and moved.

Yesterday I did nothing. My daughter in law to be was trying on wedding dresses and I was there via Facetime. Wedding is not til next year. So I want to work really hard between now and then. A couple of more appointments today. So I will get in my treadmill early. That's the plan.

@trooworld Too bad about the gym, but you did get a workout. It was a good idea to make the soup early so you could have it when you got home. I hope you eat good workout and you enjoy the zoo. @its_cleo Leftovers from takeout don’t count as another takeout. It was smart to save some for the next day. You have a good handle on exercise. @theslightedgeforever I’m not ready for fall even though it’s hot here. Good for you for speaking up at the gym! That’s exciting about being with your DIL via FaceTime while she tried on wedding dresses. Hi, all. Dinner was good last night and I only ate half of my steak so I have the rest for lunch today. I’m going to put some chicken in the slow cooker to make buffalo chicken. DS is making coleslaw with homemade blue cheese dressing. We’ll also have some corn. DH and I are going to Target this morning. After lunch I’ll work out on my recumbent bike.

@fabgeekmom I have a mental block I think on soups in the summer. While I do eat other foods that are hot, thus the mental block. I had chicken and corn yesterday for a late lunch.

I did not exercise yesterday. The last appointment was moved earlier so my plan of exercising between them went out the window. Could I have exercised later? yes. Did I? no. Today will be weight day. I bought a couple of new gym outfits for motivation. I'll go throw one of those on. Maybe even sit outside pretending I'm in a sauna. Hubby wants me to swim tonight. We'll see.

My mil likes to watch a set of YouTube videos involving a Ukranian couple, I think, on their farm just living their day out while they cook the old fashioned way. I think they are grinding the corn for cornmeal now. Between two big rocks that go in a circular fashion. I might just be thinner expending more energy throughout the day if I had to live like that. God knew I needed my appliances.

@its _cleo Thank you, I did! I hate that, too. Ugh. I like buckwheat: it has a nice texture and is healthy. I'm sure you did better in June than you did in May with take-out, right? And you'll do better in July. I'm glad you tried the mobility class even if you decide it wasn't for you. The farmer's market sounds fun. Do you buy anything when you go or do you just look around (that's mostly what we do!)? I hope you enjoy the beautiful day. Thanks for the workout video.

@theslightedgeforever I know , right? Yes, plateaus are totally normal I just hate having them lol. I've had a lot of NSV: the biggest is that I haven't had to use my cane since before my surgery. I will report another one below. I haven't been in a sauna for years! I bet it was nice. HAHAHAHA! I'm glad you said that to the woman on the leg extension machine. That was nice that you found a way to be there with the bride to be. I know what you mean about soups in the summer. I kind of have that sometimes. Buying new gym outfits was a good idea. Do you guys have a pool or will you have to go to a pool? I hope you make it into the pool. Wow, the Ukrainian couple really do it the old-fashioned way, don't they? LOL I watch this woman on YouTube who is kind of like that: she grows everything and grinds her own flour (in a machine, though). I like watching her. I need my appliances, too!

@fabgeekmom Yes ! Thank you. I'm glad dinner was good. Ha, I'm making ATK's Buffalo Chicken Lavash Flatbread tomorrow night! I hope you enjoy your buffalo chicken. Good luck with Target. and the bike.

Hi all. The gym was okay. My lower back was bugging me a bit so I skipped one exercise. I did add an exercise so it all worked out evenly. My husband wasn't done when I was done so I got on the treadmill for 25 minutes. I was wearing my weightlifting shoes, which are flat-bottomed and not very supportive, they are made by Sperry...kind of like Converse All-Stars. That was a mistake! My feet ached so bad all day after that. We did go to the zoo. We got there later than I wanted to get there (about an hour after it opened) so it was really busy. We walked around and my knee was bugging me a bit. I shouldn't have done lower body day at the gym that day. NSV: my husband noticed I was less out of breath going up the hills at the zoo (there are a LOT of hills there!). This morning, I am meeting a friend for coffee and then going to the gym by myself after that. I wonder if the gym will be busier. I hope not.

@theslightedgeforever New outfits for exercise sounds motivating. Did you go swimming? As you know, swimming is my favorite exercise. Yes, I need my appliances, too. I’m not going back to the old days! @trooworld That’s too bad about your feet! And your knees. That’s good that you’re not out of breath when going up hills. I hope you had a good experience at the gym. Hi, all. I ride my bike today. Lunch was last night’s leftovers. I’ll definitely make that again. This afternoon DS and I are going grocery shopping to get what we need for the next few days.

Hi all. I met my friend for coffee and then got to the gym at about 8:15 am. Luckily, it wasn't busy and I was able to do my workout without modifications. We went for coffee in the afternoon and that's about it. I came home and made some bookmarks for my coworkers and then made Enchiladas Suizas Verdes with chicken. The weekend went by so quickly!

Hi everyone :) @trooworld Thank you for sharing your before and after photos. You can definitely see a big difference. It’s a shame your work colleague seemed to think weight loss surgery is an “easy” way to lose weight. It’s a tool - you still have to watch what you eat and exercise. I friend I used to work with had weight loss surgery and has lost about 40kg or more, which is about 100lbs. She watches everything she eats and goes to the gym - she works so hard, just like you do :)

@fabgeekmom I’m glad it wasn’t as hot for you recently. I don’t like humidity very much. I can’t remember if you have mentioned, but do you have your own pool, or do you go somewhere else to swim? I can’t actually swim at all, even though I live near the beach, which is a little unusual I guess. It’s not that hard to live near the beach in Australia. They’re everywhere lol.

@its_cleo I think you did great to only eat takeout 5 times in June. I agree with @fabgeekmom, that eating the leftovers the next day doesn’t count as extra takeout. What is buckwheat- is it a grain you can eat instead of rice? I’ve heard of it but don’t actually know what it is.

@theslightedgeforever Good on you for telling that lady at the gym to move it - I can’t imagine just sitting there looking at my phone while people are waiting to use the equipment I’m on. I wouldn’t have had the nerve speak to the person, I just would have given her an angry look, so you’re braver than me lol. Cool that you could see your daughter in law try on wedding dresses via FaceTime. Does she live in another state, or in the same state as you?

Unfortunately I’m not doing very well with my weight loss and exercise. I seem to lose weight one week and gain it back the next. I need to try and be much more disciplined. It’s a lot easier for me to eat better and exercise if I have support from people around me, which is why I kept going back to WW. I was looking into overeaters anonymous, as they have meetings too. I don’t know if I feel comfortable with their philosophy though. I’ll discuss with my doctor my difficulties- maybe I could go back to seeing a dietitian, which I last tried about 1.5 years ago. Sorry for being a downer- you’re all doing so well, hopefully I can start to do better too :)

@trooworld I’m glad the gym went well and you enjoyed your weekend. The recipe sounds good. I’m always impressed that you go to the gym so early. I don’t function that early. @mh7816 The pool we go to is at a nearby recreation center. Our insurance (Medicare in the US for people over 65) pays for us to use the recreation center. I’m sorry you’re having trouble with your weight loss. Don’t worry about venting. That’s what we’re here for. Hi, all. Today was a swim day. DS grilled ground turkey with feta and spinach. They were really good. We also had salad and air fried French fries. My cousin brought us some eggplant from her garden and a slice of coconut cake her friend made. I had a taste of the frosting and put the rest in the freezer. I’ll save it for later as tomorrow we are having ice cream cake for my birthday. We’re also having chocolate cake that DS will make on Sunday when everyone comes over for a belated 4th celebration.

@mh7816 Thank you ! Well, she didn't say that, but she had this look on her face like she was disappointed. Maybe she was just disappointed I didn't tell her sooner (we aren't that close, so why would I, though?). You are exactly right: it is a tool! That's great to hear about your friend. I'm sorry you are struggling. Support is important. I tried OA before I tried WW and, like you, I didn't feel comfortable with their philosophy. I hope you can find something that works for you. No worries about beng a "downer", you aren't! We are here to support each other through good and bad. Big hugs.

@fabgeekmom Thank you ! If I could, I would go to the gym even earlier lol. I get up so early (4 am at the latest), it feels like a waste of time to be up so early. That's good your insurance pays for the rec center. Good job with the swim! Dinner sounds perfectly summery. Happy belated birthday!

Hi all. I was at work yesterday afternoon and I was walking and turned a different direction and I heard and felt a POP in my right knee (this is the GOOD knee). It was accompanied by pain. I tried to ignore it and it did not go away, so I called my doctor's office and they wanted me to come in that day. Luckily, they had an appointment open. They did some movement tests and determined I tore my MCL, a ligament on the side of my knee. So now I have to stay off it, ice it, and wear a brace for the next two weeks. I cannot do any lower body exercises at the gym (but I'll still go and do upper body). It really stinks!

@theslightedgeforever – good for you for asking that woman what she was doing. That’s irritating. Congratulations on the upcoming wedding. I love buying gym outfits. Workout clothes are pretty much the only clothes I like, and sweat pants etc.

@fabgeekmom thanks for the support with the takeout ! I always end up with leftovers and I hate to throw it out bc it’s a waste, but then it’s just extra calories for me. …That’s great you have access to the rec center.

@trooworld I think I did better in June with takeout , not sure. But it’s a new month so chance to start fresh! Today I’m making some red lentil soup for lunch and some pasta for dinner. ….Ohhh I’m so sorry about your knee. That is awful. What a pain. I don’t know about you but I find these setbacks emotional, like with my hip it’s been an emotional roller coaster. I feel like it's one step forward two steps back all the time. I hope you can treat yourself a bit to make up for it.

@mh7816 yes - buckwheat is a grain. I like it better than rice. I also really don’t like quinoa or cousous, so buckwheat is usually my go to for those type of meals ie stirfry. It’s a little more filling. I also tried a grain called farro, which is ok, but I can’t seem to find it in the stores here. …..You’re not a downer, you’re just trying to see what works for you. It takes time, and it’s not easy.

Well as for me, I’m on vacation this week, which tbh I’m finding a bit tough bc I’m not as mobile as I was with my hip. Normally I would be out a lot biking all day or hiking. I’m still struggling to get 3.3 km a day walking without pain, but I haven’t given up. I read gluteal tendonopathy, which is one of the problems I have, can take up to a year to heal. So it happened in Oct. So reading that actually made me a bit optimistic it might still get better.

Today I am doing 3.3 km walk, and going to a yoga class later. Then watching baseball on tv. Tomorrow I think I’ll go to the pilates class although it kicks my butt.

I live with manageable pain so I know how you feel. It’s good that you are exercising by biking, walking and doing Pilates or yoga. Hi, all. Today is my birthday. I’m 74. I’m going to the recreation center to workout on the recumbent elliptical. I’m going to listen to a book on Audible while I work out. @its _cleo That's great. And yes, new month! I love red lentil soup. You can do all kinds of things with the spices in that. Thank you! It is a pain, just when I was on a roll with exercise. Yes, I kind of feel that way, too. That's good that you have hope. I hope you get your walk in with no pain and get to go to yoga, too. Enjoy your time off!

@fabgeekmom Thanks . I do feel that way. I will go to the gym anyway so I can keep the habit in place. I hope you have a great birthday today! Sounds like you will. Enjoy the dinner, it sounds amazing!

Hi all. My knee is feeling better today after staying off it yesterday. Maybe it won't take two weeks to heal. I wore my knee brace to work and left it on all day. I iced my knee, too. I did everything the doctor wanted me to do. Last night, I had leftover soup for dinner as I didn't feel like cooking. Tonight, I will have to cook, though, as I am out of leftovers!

@trooworld I do have a pool but don't really like to swim. I'm more of a layout beside the pool and read kind of gal. Because of my skin cancer I try not to go in the pool during the daytime. Although that would be the most fun. Dh swims at night and does exercises in the pool. I got in once with him and just jumped up and down imagining I was on my mini trampoline. I hope it simulated the same thing to get some lymphatic drainage moving. Don't know if that's a myth or not, but I definitely burned calories while doing it so not a total waste of time. Some great NSVs you are having. I want to have the one where I walk up hills or stairs and not be winded. I'm working on an incline program on the treadmill at the moment 2 days a week. omg! Just read about your knee post. I'm so sorry. I know that pop. Can you tell me a little more about the mental switch in your head that now has you going to the gym and exercising. Remember before you would say I don't have time because of your commute and all. Are you still working in the same place? So how has the surgery helped you in that regard? Glad your knee is getting better.

@fabgeekmom Read my above to @trooworld about the swimming. I will try tonight if dh goes in. I don't know when his rest days are. He wanted to work out together and I said no our gym is too small. I know he'll be using the equipment I need. We've done this before. Happy Birthday. A little late.

@mh7816 The weight loss journey is a hard one for me. I've gained back about 35 lbs since covid. That's ugly to type out. I even did the math again thinking that can't be possible. But I'm still here. My current philosophy is don't worry about reaching tomorrow's goal. Can I just reach today's? Can I reach part of today's? Also changing the environment I'm in. My other son recently got married and he now lives in a new environment. :) he never followed my environment though either I keep reminding him. I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't know what buckwheat is. in my younger years I would have just glared. Unfortunately my mouth doesn't cooperate with my brain anymore now that I've aged. I keep trying though. Dil is in another state.

@its_cleo I think the worst thing about sudden injuries is it disrupts the momentum towards a goal. That's how I find it for me. It's like things are going really well and I'm losing and then BAM! an injury or a sudden surgery like in February. Then I had to pause exercise for 2 weeks. It's the getting back started for me that takes time. Once I'm consistent again life goes BAM!

So I went to the gym yesterday and the sauna. I laughed at all the women who used the sauna door as a mirror looking at themselves and not realizing I guess that I was inside watching. You could easily read the expressions on their faces. I'm sore today but Friday is my rest day. I've been very consistent this week that I can say I deserve this rest day. My tracking has been 100% consistent. Those are the two things I've been working on. I'm trying to be methodical this time round. See if I will win the consistency battle.

Happy July 4th to those that celebrate.
