what NOT to eat

To lose weight, eat less calories than you burn.
Figure out what works for you and will be sustainable.3 -

I've seen two of your threads (this one and the "my family makes me eat" thread), and you need to work on your attitude toward food. In both threads, you talk about food like you have no control over what you eat, and in this one you say that you just want someone to tell you what to do. That's ridiculous coming from a grown woman. It's also not going to lead to lasting weight loss, because as soon as you're done with the "diet," you'll gain it all back. It's time to put on your big-girl panties and be in charge of yourself and your own choices.42

Someone said, "don't eat beets", do, eat them sometimes because they help with enzymes to eliminate histamine. (Sorry if this is too serious, coping with my personal issues it was a snippet I came across). Unless, as in my dilemma , beets are high in salicylate and help reduce histamine, two things I'm intolerant of. Eat or not to eat, that is my question.1

Don't eat food you do not like. You need to eat sustainably- with a calorie deficit if your goal is weight loss Start with reducing portions sizes of foods you already enjoy, add more vegetables to your plate.

Anyway, I want to get lean. I know WHAT to eat but not what NOT to eat.
Any suggestions as to what NOT to eat so I can eliminate it from my diet and thoughts?
Thanks!
If you know what TO eat, you know what NOT to eat. Right?
True but I just want someone to tell me. It's easier than left to my own devices. lol
But "your own devices" are what's going to get you thru maintenance. It's easy to make a temporary change to lose weight......if you like sweets, eliminate those. If you like salty snacks, eliminate those.
BUT then when you get to your goal weight "your own devices" are what you will rely on to keep the weight you lost off. This is why elimination diets are such a bad idea. Figure out portion sizes for ALL foods, not just diet foods.11 -

Learning what works for you is part of making this your own plan to succeed to health and fitness. No one can really tell you what to eat that's more your decision. It's easy to get stuck in the 'diet mentality' from the past but those times are over now. It's all about the freedom of making new choices and learning how to fit them them in your life. As has been shared, eating foods that fuel your body and staying within your calorie allotment (deficit). That really is all there is too it.
There are a few things you'll learn along the way and everyone differs. I get triggered if I eat too many simply carbs, I do much better eating more complex carbs. Otherwise cravings start and it can get out of control for me. Hopefully it won't always be this way... but right now I'm being cautious with certain foods. Not everyone has this problem but if there is a food or type of food that you need to set aside for a bit that's OK to do. If you can eat it in moderation, even better.3 -
As others have said - there isn't really anything you can't eat. I would say obviously cut back on sugary/fatty foods ("junk" food), but as long as you keep it in moderation your diet doesn't have to be limited. Best of luck!1

Hi there! I posed your question to my mother, who is an MD/physician specializing in obesity and weight loss medicine. Here's what she said:
"Generally, we say not to go to extremes and eliminate foods you love from your diet. It can lead to binging later on. Instead, have small, occasional portions of the real thing. Love French fries? Let yourself eat a small serving once a week. (I personally love chocolate ice cream and let myself have a 1/2 cup serving 2x/week... but no desserts otherwise). Having said that, there are a few things that are just toxic and terrible for any diet. Anything high in sugar is likely going to be pretty problematic for weight loss and maintenance. If I had to pick one thing to completely eliminate? Soda and diet soda - which are loaded with sugar and/or chemicals - are awful and have been linked not only to weight gain, but also cancers and also diseases."
Hope that helps!
Well, the first half was decent advice...20 -

Time to take responsibility for yourself and develop a plan that will enable you to eat a balanced diet that keeps you within a reasonable calorie goal (deficit for weight loss), provides macro and micronutrients, satiates you, and provides you enjoyment.
The things that comprise that plan are all very specific to each individual and so asking someone else to tell you what to eat and what not to eat is likely not to be the best plan FOR YOU. Only you can determine that.
That said, there are no individual foods which are bad to eat, unless you have medical reasons to eliminate something.2 -

I think a lot of us have felt that way at some time or another. My sister tried fad after fad because she just wanted a list of rules to follow instead of "being a crazy dieter" like I was. And I tried a set meal plan for a while when I was starting out. I got some good ideas from it, but couldn't stick to it for very long because it didn't suit my tastes.
And I think that's the important part. I could tell you not to eat ham or radishes or clams, because I don't like those foods much and have seen success not eating them. I could give you my exact meal plan and tell you to eat that because I've seen success eating like that. But it wouldn't address your favorite foods. It likely would end up cutting out things you like or including things you hate. You'd get bored on it after a while. And you wouldn't learn why it works or how to make changes for your own personal goals.
If what you really want is just a basic meal plan, there are a lot of those around the internet. Go find one that hits your calorie and nutrition goals. Or pay a dietitian to set one up specifically customized for you. But we can't tell you what to cut out of your diet forever because we aren't you. No idea what would be sustainable or preferable for you.15
