So impressed by you guys @MobyCarp and @lporter229 (especially with a cold Moby, damn!)! Glad Boston was good to you!
Haha the parental struggle @MNLittleFinn ! And I struggle with shoes retirement/buying as well so I am zero help. My current road shoes are Kinvara 8's but they are too damn neutral and I need to switch back to the Guide 10 but somewhat concerned my husband will flip out lol. Someone make a running shoe that can last a decade, I'd buy that
Our local trail running group has decided on Wednesday nights for the spring/summer season meet up. I might have some crazy wildlife photos for you soon

@MobyCarp and @lporter229: Congratulations on completing the Boston Marathon in awesome finishing times. So impressed with you, @MobyCarp for toughing it out with your cold, cramps and other issues...so in awe with your finishing time even with walking breaks. A true champion overcomes adversity. Can't wait to hear @lporter229 's recap.0

After missing my goal 3 months in a row, I finally achieved (bested) my goal last month, having run 61.43 miles. This month my goal will be 50 miles.
My husband and I planned a trip to Nashville at the end of the month. We will probably be walking a lot. My husband doesn't share my love for running.
4/17.....8 miles on the Monon. I was really antsy about running today. After my visit with my Mom, who doesn't exercise and doesn't cook, I was entirely too sedentary and ate foods that I normally don't eat such as fried chicken and fried okra. I felt as though I swallowed a rock....the food took forever to digest. Anyway today I decided to run at least 6 miles and, if my legs felt okay, 8. My plan was to run at tempo with occasional fartleks and to take "breathers" at zone heart rate. I tried to run each mile at under 12 minutes. My legs felt fresh and my head was in the game (mainly), but lungs were not accustomed to working so hard. I had great luck, in that I didn't have to stop at any crosswalks this time. I shaved 10 minutes off the last time I ran the 8 miles....average pace of 11:30 minutes. My legs still felt strong at the end of it with no walking breaks.
Tomorrow my plan is to run 4 miles, (working on the yard afterward) and then 11 or 12 on Wednesday.
4/17...8 miles
4/14....8 miles
4/12....4.36 miles
4/9....10 miles
4/8....8 miles
4/2....9 miles
Total ....47.36 miles
goal...50 miles
Indianapolis Mini Marathon (Half Marathon)....May 6
Geist Reservoir Half...May 20 (tentative)
Indy Women's Half Marathon....September 30 (tentative)

I Tip my Hat in respect and honor to @MobyCarp and @lporter229
Congratulations on completing the Boston Marathon. So impressed with @MobyCarp for toughing it out with your cold, cramps and being wise enough to go for the extra hydration and walk through it rather than running through it. Like other's can't wait to hear @lporter229 's recap.
Today was Track day. I must confess that it was actually the first time I ever did a speed training session so my plans were modest. 5 members of our little club 4 elites and me.
Warm-up 1300m with Kerri. 5:44/km
Repeats 5 x400m ( 4:30/km; 4:36/km; 4:45/km; 4:35/km and 4:53/km) fairly happy with my 1st track session.
Still lots of work to do ( + 5 x 400m rest between = 5.3 km )
The other members were working on Staggered Pyramid - 400m Speed + 400m RI then 800m Sp + 400m RI and repeat x 3.
Had my watch in the wrong mode so it did not log the rest intervals = slow recovery slog ~ 6:00m/km.
After the track session we went to Coach Ken's house ( 6 times at Boston ) and watched the Marathon and socialized ( love the PVR for fast forward). While watching I looked outside and it was snowing, winter is still kicking at the doors. Tomorrow promises to be another fun day

@JessicaMcB Look forward to your trail and wildlife pic's. You will give @7lenny7 a serious competition for Trail Scenery.
@MNLittleFinn Retiring that first pair of shoes is a process that we all go through. The 1st one's I retired I set aside as I increased the shoes in my rotation, when I went back to them for a 10k rec run I could feel that they were no longer solid, did a few more 5 km's in them and then off to the Yard/Garden shoe pile they went. I have now retired 5 pairs with a few more approaching the end.
Like @WhatMeRunning if a shoe starts to give me discomfort ( especially on long runs, > 10 km ) then they quickly get moved down to shorty shoes and then off to one of the local charities who collect shoes.2 -
Good morning! I just checked in and saw all the posts from yesterday. You guys are awesome. So humbling to see you all cheering us on all day. Thanks for all the support! Congrats to @MobyCarp on your finish and doing the smart thing for your body. I was not so wise. While I am still on cloud nine for my requalifying finish, I can't walk today. Hamstrings are a mess. I'm on my mobile right now. I will post a full race report when I get home.

Ah, the re-qualifying finish. Checked in with some of the other Rochester runners at Fire and Ice after the race. The organizer of the meet up looked up my time. "What's your BQ target?" 3:55. "You'll be back next year." Re-qualifying can be addictive.
We'll see. I might look at things differently if recovery goes well. Or maybe not.6 -
Congrats to @lporter229 and @MobyCarp for a superb marathon effort! It's things like this that I find truly inspirational and motivating.
I didn't run yesterday as my legs still felt a little stiff after Saturday's race, so I walked for about 9 miles instead. That helped, and this morning, I was able to get in a few miles of warmup prior to meeting up and running with the regular group.

Nice 5 miles this morning at a refreshing 46F. Legs were a little sore from yesterday's PT and 30DS sessions and I did sleep well, so I didn't expect much out of the run but it went well and was fairly uneventful.6 -
Have to think about this. In my possibly-completed marathon career, I have 4 starts; 3 finishes; 3 BQs; and 2 Bostons. That may be enough.
@mobycarp great job with the odds definitely stacked against you. I would hate to see you stop running marathons, at least at this point, because you would not be finishing on what I’ll call a “fair” race. You were sick it was horribly warm. But if you do decide not to run another that ^^^ is something to be very very proud about.
@lporter229 looking forward to reading your race recap. Sorry to hear about the hamstring and your inability to walk. Congratulations on your race.
While traveling last week I got on a plane and a guy sitting there had a Boston Marathon 2017 jacket on. I said are you running. He said I am and kinda smiled. I said congratulations that’s awesome and good luck. His smile got really big and he thanked me. I should have thought to ask his bib number so I could track him. When I said to Skip, that guy is running Boston, she was all wide eyed and said wow. I’m telling you both this story, because every runner in the world knows how impressive it is to be in the Boston Marathon and we are so proud of you.

Four rather uneventful miles. It was pretty warm this morning. I got to run through my first set of sprinklers for the year. My compression shirt I bought last summer when I was thinner kept creeping up on me exposing my underbelly, so I had to keep tugging that back down. Sorry to all of the passing cars for that.

Today's notes: slept in today until 0545, and that felt good, though I could use some more sleep. I swear, I'm actually more tired today, with the sleeping in on a rest day, than I am on a run day....Maybe it's my body realizing that it's a cutback week and it can relax? Anyway, Tomorrow's back to running and then another rest day Thursday....

My road shoes have a cycle they go through. When they're new they first get duty for shorter runs...up to 6 or 7 miles. Once I'm convinced they'll work well for me (and just because a model as worked out in the past, does not mean that this particular pair will)...maybe at the 25 to 30 mile mark, they get moved to duty as long distance runners. If I did speedwork, they'd also be used for that. As they close in on the end of life, I switch them back over to shorter, slower runs. I got this idea from @Stoshew71 . You want your best shoes on for long or fast runs for the benefit of your body. As they start to wear out they may no longer be suitable for those long, or fast, runs, but they are fine for shorter/slower runs. When you can start feeling they no longer work for that, then they get retired.
I'm less rigorous with trail shoes since I'm running on softer surfaces and the nature of trail running means less repetitive stress.

Thanks for the race recap @MobyCarp! That's always one of my biggest fears...that I'll get sick right before a race. You did an awesome job in adverse conditions. A marathon is incredibly difficult in perfect conditions. In the meantime, I hope your recovery goes well.0

Congrats to @mobycarp and @lporter229 on finishing Boston and good luck with recovery
I woke up yesterday with asthma, decided to run anyway. It was a very humid 60F with 90% humidity. But sometimes that moist air seems to help me breathe. The first mile running was rough on my legs AGAIN and I was tossing up either aborting the run or finishing the run and then taking a long-term break and restarting in fall. LOL Ended up being a nice 4 mile run and my faith in running was restored.
I did almost run into 2 adult geese with their babies which made me realize that I was not looking very far ahead of myself running. When did I start doing that?! Have I been doing this long? I think maybe I have. Not looking at my feet but at the road maybe 6 feet in front of me. So my new goal is to start focusing down the street - waaaay down the street. I used to do that and I don't know what happened. Maybe that's been some of my problem with the bad form and shuffling I've been doing. I think I just like to go in my little bubble and that's not good. Definitely need to be more aware of my surroundings.3 -

4/5 - 5 mile slow recovery run + cross-training - strength training

4/12 - 7 miles in the comfortable rain + strength training
4/13 - 5 mile short, slowww recovery run
4/14 - 8 miles
4/15 - rest (had to miss Zumba, so sad!)
4/16 - 10 mile long run (shorter cutback week run)
4/17 - 11 mile run (not as sucky as expected despite being tired/10mi day before/headache/didn’t start til 6pm)
April Total: 110.8/170
457.8 miles/2,017 miles - goal for the year
So I ran 11 miles last night, on what is normally my rest day, but again, I'm juggling my schedule to reduce the amount of running I need to do on my vacation coming up. I was tired, I had a pretty bad headache to start out, I had just run 10 miles the day before, and I didn't get to start until 6pm after being at work all day, so I was 100% expecting this to be an overall craptastic, not fun run. While it wasn't one of those glorious, amazing runs, it was actually much less sucky than I was expecting. I think I still keep surprising myself with the level of fitness I've built up to, lol. Still, we'll see how today and tomorrow pan out. I'm doing a 4 or 5 mile recovery run tonight, and then crossing my fingers that I physically have it in me to pull out my long run tomorrow after work, which will be a distance PR for me, at 14 miles. I'm really hoping I'm able to pull it off. It will also be my 4th day in a row of running. Yikes!4 -
@MobyCarp and @lporter229 congrats on the amazing Boston finishes, through challenge and adversity!!!0
