@midwesterner85 yes about the majestic part! I'm from an area of KS people travel to just to hunt and we get huge flocks of snow geese that take over. They make field look white when thousands land. I just got unknowingly too close to a nest when I was like 5 and got chased by a mad mother goose. Scarred me!1

@hesfeld Speaking of animals fleeing as a group and appearing to be majestic; and Kansas... the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve near Strong City, KS has a pasture with buffalo where one can hike (I wouldn't suggest running for safety reasons). I've actually been out there hiking under a full moon with friends when we came upon a group of bison sleeping. We waited for them to awake and run away. Their movements as a group, the rumbling of their steps under a peaceful and otherwise quiet landscape were breath-taking. I definitely recommend it.5

I'm not sure if I will get my run in today or not. It is my birthday and I know there will be plans this evening. I already had family members telling me over the weekend that I am too thin and I am obsessive and I just don't want to deal with that today. But I am still debating taking off work early this afternoon to get my run in. Maybe I am obsessive. I'm still on track to meet my goal this month even if I totally skip today's run, but I'm a little disappointed to not get it in. On a positive note, I did finally sign up for my first 5K. I am pretty excited about it. It is a fundraiser for the local animal shelter so it should be pretty low key so I think that will be good for my first time. This is an annual 5K and it is usually in September but this year they changed it to May 6th.
Happy Birthday, and birthday runs are the best!1 -

hoping for a better week of running. Colds gone, and my goal is to run 3 miles 3 times this week, and 7 miles this weekend.
also the Missoula half marathon I am for sure doing now, BUT I may do the full if my friend doesnt do the half with me. I know full well I will have to walk the majority of it because i wont be ready to run a full, but a couple people i know are doing it, and my coworker that is doing it is walking most of it. She did it last year and got second to last place, but shes trying to do better this year, but she said she will be walking 2/3s of it, so i may do it with them. we will see.
Training for:
5/14-womens run-5mile
7/10- Missoula Marathon-HM
9/17- Montana Marathon-Full marathon
I had a rough day today after having a conversation with an "agent" from DirecTV. We changed to u-verse and I was told by both ATT and another agent from DirecTV that my account with Direct was terminated only to be told today that it wasn't true. I was put on hold 3 times, struggled with their voice-mail and will still have to talk to a supervisor tomorrow before it is all settled.
The above post was so funny, in particular the part about her co-worker who aspires to improve upon "2nd-to-last" in a marathon.
The topper was @7lenny7. I almost split my gut laughing at his story from the part where he hid in the woods to "take care of business" and tried to cover it up with sticks and rocks and then encountered police on his way back to the car. Oh, you have no idea how much I needed that!

After missing my goal 3 months in a row, I finally achieved (bested) my goal last month, having run 61.43 miles. This month my goal will be 50 miles.
My husband and I planned a trip to Nashville at the end of the month. We will probably be walking a lot. My husband doesn't share my love for running.
4/18....4 miles.....I didn't know I was so close to my goal for the month but exceeded it today. I guess I low-balled my goal. My glutes were really sore. I didn't really plan it but ran in the zone most of the run. 12 minutes/mile, with my average heart rate at 85% of max.
I decided to run the half at Geist this year. My employer payed for the entry fee and I am going to treat it as a "long run". I love the option of maybe running it next year if I have to work the weekend of the Mini next year.
Tomorrow I plan to run either 11 or 12 miles. I probably won't be able to get another run in until after my vacation is over (4/27).
4/18...4 miles
4/17...8 miles
4/14....8 miles
4/12....4.36 miles
4/9....10 miles
4/8....8 miles
4/2....9 miles
Total ....51.36 miles
goal...50 miles
Indianapolis Mini Marathon (Half Marathon)....May 6
Geist Reservoir Half...May 20
Indy Women's Half Marathon....September 30 (tentative)

6.7 last night. Coworkers found me a trail to run on so I didn't go running on the highway again.
Since I am trying this strava thing out.... I have one question. It is syncing over to my mfp feed as "running (jogging), in place." .... Now.... I know I am slow..... but I promise I AM MOVING. ... sooooo what do I have set up wrong?..
yeah it does this for me - the answer below about the 12 minute miles has it right. I've stopped caring.
Another quirk from Strava itself, is when you find yourself in a club and look at the leaderboard, in addition to most miles run, it also lists time spent running. Yup, that's me at the top there with my super slow runs.....3 -
@hesfeld I don't trust geese either - they snap at your ankles. nasty things.
I once had to leg it out of a pen with a wild boar cross. He was big and coming towards me. Never trust a large pig either.
Cows aren't a big issue - we often walk through fields of them and they usually just stare at you, unless they're young boy cows, who like to group together and do a stampede towards you turning away at the last minute. There's a very good reason they say if you are walking with a dog through a field of cows and they start running towards you to let the dog run free.....1 -
@OSUbuckeye906 Not Mizuno Wave Inspire 12s, but some other previous model (I don't know which number). Bought in 2007, so the shoe probably changed a bit.
For me, the toe box was wide enough, but I also wasn't running anything longer than 10k at that time.
Regarding size in general, if you are looking at US sizes (not UK sizes, because I swear for that the companies just pick a random number!), I had the same size in Mizunos as with Asics and Saucony, half a size larger than Brooks.
@greenolivetree Geese can be scary. I've got some around here that always chase after me for a bit. Don't know what would happen if I ever stopped and went back towards them, but since there aren't too fast and give up easily, I hopefully won't have to try ;-)
@kgirlhart Happy Birthday! I hope you had a lovely day, with or without a run.
@7lenny7 LOL, that's just the perfect moment for the cops to show up!
@hesfeld There's rarely any wind where I currently live. Yesterday was an exception, and I was so exhausted from riding my bike. Wind can be just as tough as hills!

mostly walking over Easter weekend - Good Friday went to an abandoned village on a military firing range, open only a few days a year, then spent the rest of the weekend on the coast doing a bit more of the coastal path and some nice river walks. I was itching to run, but had agreed to walk with a non-running friend and the weather was nice. saw plenty of runners out and am planning a 10 mile trail run this weekend to make up for it.
niggles in my left calf and right hamstring are annoying me though so we'll see.
Easter Monday we went to see bluebells. Every spring the Great British public launch themselves on unsuspecting woodland to catch a glimpse of the most stunning blankets of purple delicate flowers. This is why:

Today's notes: Got up at 0400 and was out of the house by just about 0415. Today's assignment was to run 7 miles with 8x1 minute @ 5k pace with 2 minute recovery. I did it a little different. ended up with 11X 1 minute, because I broke it up into 2 parts and ran 5 the first time, intending to actually do 10, but then lost count and ran an extra 1 minute interval at 5k pace. I really should say, my pace was 5k or faster..... 5k was supposed to be 7:30-8:00 pace and on at least a couple of the repeats, my pace was sub-7:00. All in all, it felt good, and I ended up with an average HR of 157, so I was just out of the E zone on average. Not bad!

@kgirlhart A belated happy birthday; hope you had a good one!
@7lenny7 That was hilarious...obviously it wasn't for you at the time, but yeah, definitely hilarious!!!
@girlinahat Beautiful pictures! Where I grew up, there was a wooded area called Bluebell Woods, and your pictures take me back to those days.
Today I tried to get back in to the regular routine that I'd been running prior to Saturday's race, but I guess I still need to take it a bit easier for a little while more as it got real tough towards the end. So tomorrow I'll run with the group, and then Friday may be just a short run.

@7lenny7 your story had be LOL'ing to myself at my desk yesterday
@hanlonsk I have my Garmin account synced to MFP and it used to really piss me off how it short changed me on my pace. Anything over a 10:00/mile pace and it's recording it as 11.5/mile.But then I got over it and just started posting a comment on my exercise post with the actual stats of the run, lol. Makes me feel a little bit better

@midwesterner85 there's a spot I think west of Dodge City, KS that's a scenic stop to see wagon trails still there from back in the Santa Fe Trail days. You're buffalo story reminded me but when I would stop there, it's almost as I could hear the wagons moving through
@girlinahat I do x-ray and I've seen enough people kicked by cows and horses to make me respect them lol
@_nikkiwolf_ you're lucky to have the rarity of wind! I'm jealous
