Yes I feel ya. My ear hurts into my lymph node. My head hurts... horrible. I swear there's a pond in my head.1 -

Woo hoo! I was able to run 5k today in between walk breaks. Actually it was more like, walk 0.5, run 1, walk 0.5, run 2.1. It felt great to be running again. And my hip held up well.
Tomorrow is primarily walking. If I can get another 3.25 mile run in the next three days, I'll have 50 miles running for April.12 -
Disaster averted!
I packed up my shoes for my race. An hour later I noticed the insoles were sitting on a shelf near the boot dryer! That would have really pissed me off to forget those. I did plan on bring a second pair but it wouldn't be my favorite model.6 -

Real Goals: Run Boston. Finish healthy. Recover well.
Today's notes – Last club practice before Dedham. Earlier, my porch thermometer had said it got to 90º F today; but it had cooled to 82º F (28º C) by the time I ran my warm up. It feels like time to start acclimating to warm weather for the summer race season.
he assignment for those of us running Dedham was 1 mile at goal race pace, and one set of 15 second cut backs at 5K race pace. Talked to Coach and a team mate about what the Dedham course is like; an out, loop, and back with the out being downhill, the loop being mostly flat with one hill, and of course uphill on the way back. So I set out to run my mile starting downhill and finishing uphill. Figured 6:30 per mile would be a good goal race pace, but of course the starting downhill sucked me out faster. Ended up running the mile in 6:10. Took a long jog recovery looking for a good place to run the cutbacks. I would have liked to run them on the flat path around the reservoir at the top of Cobb's Hill, but there was too much walking traffic there for speed work. I settled for the not quite flat section of road on the back side of the reservoir, and ran back and forth quite a bit. Ran the cutbacks too fast, closer to R pace than I pace; but it felt good, and cutbacks always go by quickly. Then cut the cool down to not quite a mile and a half, ending at a port-a-pot. Ah, the joys of being an older guy out running.
I'm feeling pretty good about being able to race Dedham. It would be dumb to strive for a PR, but breaking 42 minutes for a 10K seems plausible. Tomorrow will be a rest day, because I've run 8 days in a row with the last three feeling like real training, Friday is normally a rest day for me, and there's that race on Sunday. Saturday will be a travel day, hopefully getting there soon enough to do a 3 mile or so preview of the start/end of the course.
I'll be on the road when @Stoshew71 is running the Kentucky Derby Marathon, so I signed up for text alerts. Hoping he can hit that BQ on Saturday!

Good Save @7lenny7
After a Shoe Failure just before an event I always go with 2 pairs of my planned shoes and one with a little more depth of grip - light weight Trail Shoes. Carrying 3 pairs may seem excessive - But I must qualify that 60-70% of my events are on Gravel based trails or outright dirt and sand bush track mud bog nasties - so the conditions can vary wildly.0 -

Went for a very short 1 miler tonight. Dropped my son off with scouts, and my niece and nephew decided to come hang out with me, but it started down pouring and my niece got cold, so we left, but I had fun running in the pouring rain. I have pictures but the dang things won't load.7

Crazy again at work and I am on vacation next week but at a dog show with Hobbes the Vizsla Saturday - Wednesday and then off to Seattle to see my daughter! Hoping I can finish up my goal even without a long run - I need less than 10 miles!

Monthly Goal: Stay "healthy" and get in good marathon training
Nominal Mileage goal: 191 miles.
Today's notes: Today's assignment wa 5 miles at E, and 4 strides. Ran 5.1 miles in 48:18, for an average pace of 9:27. It felt good running, though HR was a little high, at 154, but still in the E range for me. The strides were nothing to really write about, got them done, and was back in my house by 0515. I'm "only" 16 miles from my monthly goal, so with 19 miles scheduled for tomorrow, and 5 on Sunday, it looks like I could end up a little past my goal. Nothing wrong with that!

Supposed to be 47 degrees, windy, and maybe rainy for my 5k on Sunday. Everyone at work says I'm gonna freeze, but I'm excited. Now telling my mom who's coming to visit that we have to wake up at 4:30 am is a different story..4

Friday morning workout: 1.1 miles running, 3.1 miles walking for a total of 4.2 miles. My hip was slightly stiff this morning after yesterday's 5k so I merely did an easy jog in two segments and walked the rest. The sun was out this morning so I was happy to get the workout done in the morning, unlike yesterday when it was pouring down rain in the early AM and I don't have my rain jacket yet (Macy's says it's shipped, so hopefully very soon which will be good because it's supposed to rain all weekend.).
Happy Friday y'all!3 -
@garygse - Nice Friday run for donuts! I think that should get you your own dozen!
Also, just wanted to extend one more giant good luck to our fearless leader Stan ( @Stoshew71 )! You know what to do, so just go do it! We will all be pulling for you!
It's been almost two weeks since my marathon and my legs feel pretty much back to normal. Well, normal being my pre-marathon, hamstring aching, normal. I have been taking it easy and working my way back into a regular strength training routine. I have to admit that I am enjoying working out with weights again and looking forward to getting stronger and getting some of that muscle definition back that I lost with higher mileage running. I am going to start P90X3 on Monday, which is exciting since I got really good results with the original P90X. Also, I have been doing a bit of research on high hamstring tendonopathy and pretty much everything I am able to find indicates that it is going to be a loooong, slow recovery. I am going to look into joining a gym this weekend so that I can get into a solid cardio cross-training routine of biking and swimming as well, since I have no idea how long this is going to last. I may not be able to run, but I will still try to be here cheering you guys on. Just add me to the list of zero milers for May6 -
I'm experiencing a new thing with having these higher mileage goals. I "know" I should be able to meet my goal this month, but having almost 20 miles to go with only 2 days left is a new thing..... Good thing I have 24 miles scheduled in the month!3

I'm fighting a weird chest cough, but I think I turned the corner on it. Just in time for a heatwave!
I have a 10 miler tomorrow and it's going to be 90 degrees. I think I may set my alarm which I hate doing on Saturdays, but 70 is better than 90!3 -

and heres one of the pictures rom my mini run, with my niece, she tried her darnest to keep up with me

Still no running for me. I've been getting sicker vs better so I doubt running is going to improve matters. Right now my goal is to get well. I don't want to drag this into next week.
Taking my hubby for MRI today and Tuesday we have a surgery consult to get him a port due to his horrible veins. He needs the Crohns drug infusions more often than generally prescribed and constant bloodwork on top of that, so he's ready to say goodbye to IVs. Lots going on with him as we are trying to get him in remission and he's worsening, so basically I ain't got time to be sick
@lporter229 Sorry you're having to sit out May. I've read all the horrible stories about high hamstring tendinopothy. I took off 8 weeks end of 2015 but kept in shape with fitness blender workouts. Hang in there and you'll be back running before you know it!0 -

My profile photo was taken during a run on a 40-something degree day, though there wasn't a whole lot of wind. There were runners wearing everything from full-sleeve heavy tops and pants to some wearing shorts and no shirt (men) or sports bra (women, of course). As for me, you can see that my hands were cold, but otherwise, I was good. I ditched the gloves after the first couple miles, though.0 -

64/100 miles done in April
Another 4 miles on Sunday in the beautiful weather. It was a tad humid but 68 and breezy -perfect.
Today a friend convinced me to try a kettle bell class before work. I am leaving for an out of town work conference on Wednesday so I know my running opportunities are going to be few and far between this week. I decided to squeeze in another 3 miles on the treadmill before the class.
Before today, I had never tried kettle bells. How hard could it be, right? Ha!! My butt has been thouroghly kicked! My whole body is still shaky 30 minutes later. I am going to be sore tomorrow....
71/100 miles done in April
This is the longest discussion thread ever! I can't keep up! Lol
I left for an out of town work conference on Wednesday- squeezed in 10 miles before I had to leave for the airport. I knew I wouldn't get much running in this week.... My diet has been crap with all the free food and alcohol. I just can't say no to free!
3 miles on the hotel treadmill on Thursday and another 3.5 boring treadmill miles this morning.
87.5/100 miles done in April
Another 10 miles done this morning. I ran with a group of runners for the first time. They were training with the Galloway method and doing walk/run intervals. It was fun having a group to chat with although it took me much longer to complete the miles with the walking segments thrown in
97.5/100 miles done in April
5.5 miles and strength training on Monday
4.5 miles and a Vinyasa Yoga class on Tuesday
7 miles this morning
114.5/100 miles done in April
Warning: this is my tried/sore/hangry/cranky/whiny post
5.5 miles and strength training on Thursday. I am working with a friend/trainer on the strength training. It is a new thing for me. She has me doing different types of strength workouts every week. This week = burnout or total fail workout. It is officially the worst thing ever. I could not lift my stupid arms up to blow dry my hair before work this morning. I mean, even my freakin' boob muscles are sore (I guess they are officially called pectoral muscles?).
5 slow easy miles through my neighborhood this morning. Bumped my mileage up to 38 this week and now I am dying of hangryness. It is only 11 AM and I have already eaten two LARGE meals. And I am STILL starving! Heading to work but all I really want to do is eat an entire New York cheesecake and take a nap. This still might be my plan for after work.
Tomorrow = sleeping in followed by rotting my brain with stupid TV - at least until I have to go to work (on my official day off). I desperately need a do nothing day!
Okay, done venting to random strangers on the internets.

I have used these for 3 months. So far so good. They are relatively inexpensive, have held up to rain and sweat, and come with a warranty. Only drawback, the sound quality is not bad but is certainly not the best. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BV2BPVS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=10 -
@hesfeld Good luck in your 5K this weekend.
@lporter229 Sorry to hear you have to take a running break. I did the entire P90X3 workout to start off my fitness journey. The MMX workout was my favorite. If you join a gym that offers Body Pump, I would recommend it. I think I need to get back to taking it once my left leg feels 100% again. That class really helped my muscle definition.
@angmarie28 Your niece is adorable!
@amymoreorless ... "boob muscles.." I think that should be the new term. Runger sucks!! People told me I could eat whatever I wanted when marathon training. Nope!! I don't burn that many calories!3 -

I'm totally not making my running goal this month, but I stayed active when I couldn't run so I added those stats up top.3 -

@BeeerRunner I can't remember if I mentioned this before or not, so apologies if I'm repeating myself, but have you looked into immunotherapy? I did it for two years, and saw results after just a couple of months. Allergies used to slay me, but now I only take medication if stuff is blowing in from miles away, which isn't really that often.0
