DanaReel – The porch is only about 16’ x 20’; about the size of my studio; not quite the size of our bedroom. It faces west; so we have to do something to cool it (at least) and while we are at it we might as well heat it, too. Lordy, Mercy … I just repotted a peace plant; poor thing was so pot bound; had to slice the roots and dump the old dirt and I just put new in it and put it back into the plastic pot it was in, and ‘hopefully’ I got enough in it and enough water in/on it so that it will come back up to a standing position. Maybe then I won’t have to water it 3x a week. I’ve given up on some plants, like a Maidenhair Fern or Shamrock – don’t have any places in or outside the house that doesn’t have something that doesn’t agree with them. The shelf around my tub (which I hate because it is difficult to keep clean) would probably be a good place for them. But, I would rather buy something not so tender.
Pip – What do you do that an ‘owner’ would be on the premises? Yeah, Louis still works because of wanting the ‘fluff’ money as he calls it; but, I can see from doing the budget we need it at this moment. Hopefully, he can start slowing down some. Tomorrow he is going to go get started on a house; and, we’ll go out later. Choices … do I go with him; or do I meet him? Either way, I’d be reading or watching TV. I guess the owners are ‘out of town’.
Becca – I have not posted any pictures of my highest/lowest to this point pictures.
Michele – I was thinking the same thing about Becca’s house and the other living room that had been posted (can’t remember who it was); but, the one who put down a larger rug. My house could only be described as clean but clutter, which occasionally makes it not look so clean. I do they to make up my bed, pick up and put away what needs to be put away and empty dishwasher and trying my best to keep the kitchen counters cleared off. I’m losing the battle on that chore. Don’t have enough space for anything. I’d like to have some cabinets built around my windows with a counter running across where the window in the kitchen is (that looks right out on our carport. DH keeps promising ‘we’ll look into it; because they will have to be built versus getting them at Lowe’s or Home Depot. I’m just tired of the wire rack with stuff piled up on it.
How do you pronounce your son’s name?
Sharon – Our 16-year-old DMGD has her ‘learner’s license’; but, she doesn’t want to learn to drive and won’t drive if she has the chance. They might have to use my car, if she ever decides to learn. Gee, I remember counting off the days until I would turn 16, so I could drive. I don’t know what her problem is, well … yes, I do. She’s upset with her parents because they bought Taylor one and they can’t buy her one.
NYKAREN – I got taken off the jury pool list for the county; then, I got a summons for Grand Jury for Federal Court. I had to have a MD’s statement on the one in the county; but, I used to work for the Federal Government, so all they have to do to verify my request to be taken off their list is go to the Clerk’s Office to see that I went out on disability going on 18 years. Have not heard a word from them, one way or the other. That is a 6-month, we’ll call you when we need you. I also told them that DH has not allowed me to drive on the Interstate in 3 years. He takes me to Macon to see one of my MD; but, I’d not have a way to get around if I could get up there and stayed (unless there is somewhere within walking distance; and, I don’t think there is.
Kelly – If ‘any’ of us had the knowledge we have now, as teenagers … we would have been way too dangerous! Joaquin is a happy baby!
Heather – We have planted pines around our house; but, far enough away that hopefully we would not have any of them close enough to pop off and bust through the roof; or maybe not catch on fire. We do have a fire break that they keep harrowed up. I’m trying to figure out if I can get DH to rent a small tiller so I can till up an area in the front year (full of weeds) and plant my seeds before it gets too late. He hasn’t been listening to the things I want to do. I am going to ‘kill his @$$’ if he doesn’t get that DAMN door for my porch! I’ve been impatiently waiting for 2 years now!
Dana – Love the kitchen nook. When we lived in our first house after moving back; I really would have liked to have had that same house plan for out here; but, Louis did not want a 2nd story (or a house that large). We lived in a 2nd house between that one and the one we’re in now. We also have a metal roof. Our little kitchen was U-shaped and at the other end we had our Hoosier Kitchen cabinet that I got from my Mimi; and, a small drop-leaf table that worked out just fine for us for most meals. Baby chair in the corner. Oh how I remember those days!
Both places I have worked for any extended period of time, I got raises either because they were Federal Jobs or we benefited from an ‘union’; we were not in the union but, they fought to get our benefits. When I worked with GMAC/MIC I made more than my sister did with a college degree and teaching. How she hated that thought.
Shortly after we moved and after I had quit the job, someone who was upset because his car had been repoed came in and shot the place up. Killed a couple of the ladies that I knew. I worked in the claims office and our desks were at the back of the room … then he went over to the other side of the building and shot a few people there.
Lanette and Heather – Where are y’all seeing that icon to add pictures?
Pip – Unless you have a job to go to, in these times, I would NOT recommend quitting one. Our DDnL#1 went about 17 or 18 weeks without bringing home a paycheck; it sent them over the ‘financial cliff’; and, they had been able to pay their bills and were working really hard at paying them off using the ‘snowballing effect’; but, one on the ones that had the highest interest rate would NOT work with them and sued them a week before they filed for bankruptcy. When DOS went to trial for it, he told the Judge he had no plans to pay it as it was in bankruptcy. "Boo-Yah"
Lanette – Yeah, in a divorce action IF the woman makes sure her attorney ‘asks’ for it, she is entitled to ½ of his retirement (or at least ½ of what he put into it once they married); and, she can – depending – can claim off his SS or even that of her 1st husband if they had been married long enough or he has died. My sister when she got a divorce had her attorney to write up the ‘settlement agreement’ and ‘alimony’ as a ‘settlement’ and NOT ‘alimony’; otherwise she would have had to pay taxes on it. That is something else to be considered – taxes – how much would you net AFTER taxes are taken out of it. She got it for a long time and now she is claiming on her husband’s SS; because they had been married nearly 35 years when he decided he ‘loved 2 women’. That did not ‘fly’ with her. She threw him ‘out of the house’ and FORWARDED all the bills to him, changing the addresses on them so she would not get them and have to make arrangements for him to pick them up.
HA! HA! I don’t think we’d be in the ‘high of a tax bracket’ either. But, it was a bit disheartening when we got a 3% raise; only to find my check went down by $1 because my Medicare insurance premium had also gone up. That suxs; but, it has gone up, and up, and up since 2008.
Love the quote! How true it is!
Barbie – When my BF was working; she had an ‘awful’ supervisor, who had worked in the same office, moved to Atlanta to ‘get’ a raise then requested to be moved back. Since they needed a supervisor and she happened to be at that ‘pay scale’ that was given as her reason for coming back. BF was the same pay grade. A few weeks of her ranting and raving and really making an @$$ out of herself; BF put pencil to paper and figured that working 3 more years of putting up with her was just not worth it. She came in on Monday and announced that Friday was going to be her last day. Shocked everybody; but, she did it. Then she went back working part-time that quickly turned into full-time; now she works 3 days a week; but, 10 hours a day. I don’t see that it is very part-time; but, at least she does have a long weekend. But, she thinks she just can’t leave her boss in a lurch and the woman hired to take her place is slower than molasses.
Klanders – That is a beautiful tree; what kind is it? Cherry?
Becca (again) – My husband ‘favorite’ expression is ‘that’s what the girl at the picnic said’. Once or twice it is funny and I can laugh; but, then I start looking around to see who or what is ‘stressing him out’; and, pull us away from the person or situation. One of my HS friends and he call one another their ‘girl/boy’. Of course, my friend is committed to another man and she is gorgeous, too! Always has been, even in HS. She’s been dating him for going on 3 years; but, after a really BAD marriage, I don’t think she wants to go down that lane again.
Nancy – You need to bookmark the page by click on the outline of a star at the upper-right-hand corner of the remarks; then all you will have to do is click on the gray star between the bell and gear. Barbiecat posts a link for the next month on the last day of the month. When you get to the ‘new’ month; you will need to bookmark that month the same way.
Louis and I have always maintained separate accounts; even though both of them were ‘joint’ accounts. We never wrote a check on the other’s account unless we had the permission or had been given direction to do so. I paid my bills; he pays the mortgage, taxes, his bills and such.
When we lived in Macon our back yard was natural with the exception of a flat spot where the kids had their swing set. They’d roam all over the back yard, which was fenced in. I always dressed them up in ‘bright-colored’ clothes when they played outside, that way I would keep an eye on them. Will enjoyed ‘walking the fence line’. It sloped about like your place.
I’ve been culling through all my magazines and pulling out recipes that look good. NOT that I will ever cook anything in them
Does ANYBODY have a ‘good’ recipe for “Bread Pudding?” My DMnL made it and my DH mentioned it the other day. I can remember eating it; we’ve only been to one restaurant that has ever served it.

Lenora, THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!! Got it!1

Lenora, the icon for posting pictures is at the top of this reply window...to the right of the one that shows a piece of paper folded at the corner...it looks like a teensy picture in a frame of a mountain and the sun/moon?
I once made bread pudding with croissants... talk about yummy. I think you can find a recipe online. And I think it used whole milk or half and half....almost too rich but good.
Barbie, are you knitting those caps with four needles? AND working in the design? YOU are super talented!! The best I can do is for stocking caps is knitting with 2 needles, decreasing at the top and sewing up the side seam. And that's not sitting on a bike, lol. What a marvelous and kind thing to do.
Had a busy morning - discovered aphids in the greenhouse, they had started on the tomatoes. So I went thru each plant, cut off infested leaves, wiped organic pesticide on the rest, then went on a witch hunt with the pesticide to get rid of spider mites any anything else that looked potentially nasty. The pesticide is peppermint and rosemary oils in a suspension... bet I could make a tincture as I have both plants right here. Might be fun to try.

Heather: I know this rift in such an old and important friendship must be very difficult for you. I hope it doesn't adversely affect your friendships with the others. :flowerforyou:
Mia in MI: I retired at the earliest opportunity that would allow me to collect my pension because DH needed me to be available due to his health problems. My employer generously kept me on their insurance plan until I was eligible for Medicare. My retirement system has a supplement health plan available that works in addition to Medicare and I pay for it monthly out of my pension. DH is the primary reason we need the supplemental plan. He is not a cheap date, medically speaking, & it makes a huge difference in our bottom line. I am quite satisfied with the results. Good luck with your decision. :flowerforyou:
Pip: It seems that you are in a good place and I'm happy for you.
Nancy in AZ: I think you are smart to count calories rather than go with a packaged plan like Medifast. This way you are creating the skills and habits to maintain your weight when you reach your goal. :flowerforyou:
Becca: Love the photos of your guys.
Barbie: I'm sure the chemo caps will be appreciated. Making them is a very nice thing to do for others while keeping your hands busy.
Lanette: I'm sorry to hear that you had aphids in your greenhouse. It seems to me that you've done just the right thing to deal with them. I hope they don't return. :noway:
I had a lovely riding lesson today & have just started thinking about what we could do for fun tomorrow. I could certainly power wash our upper deck. It is in dire need but I'd like to do something fun with DH if we can agree on an idea. I'll start with tomorrow's weather forecast and go from there to make plans.
Have a great day.

Lanette, I knit in the round on two addi TURBO circular needles. It's much easier than using four double point needles and minimizes the possibility of dropping stitches off the end of the needle. I learned how at a knitting class but there are YouTube videos that demonstrate the technique very effectively. My bike is a recumbent bike so it's very comfortable and I have a small table next to me to keep my pattern book close by.
Katla, I hope your weather forecast for tomorrow is better than ours. Except for dog walking, there's nothing we want to do outside.

love all of yas!
Ooh I helped my neighbor set up a new DVD player she got. With no technical savvy what so ever, I did it! Just connected white, yellow, and red and plugged it in! Then she asked me to help her fix a vertical blind that came off. I took the long slat, and then looked up and clicked it back in place. She was laughing, that all??!! Well f**k! She swears like a sailor.... Haha!!

Barbie! I forgot about the circular needles - I think I have a pair around here I used to knit a vest many years ago. That recumbent bike sounds like a winner. I see them at the gym but haven't tried one yet.

Barbie Wow those are some beautiful hats! Love the patterns and colors... My partner is the one who arranged for the garage cleaning and she had planned to be "the one" to deal with the garage organizers all along. I ended up taking one box at a time to the back deck to sort through, away from the drama, but she truly hung in through the entire process. She deserves a medal. I made very nice dinner last night and tonight, lovely chicken breasts and roasted veggies last night, and chicken breasts made a different way with fresh cut asparagus & hollandaise tonight. Plus I cleaned up the kitchen both nights.
PIP Do what will make you happy the next couple of years - a dollar an hour is about $2000 a year before taxes - your happiness is the really valuable thing.
Becca Love all your pictures - your neat little apartment, your boys, the flowers, you...wonderful!
NYKAREN Beautiful tree...
Heather 54 years of friendship IS a long time. It would be great if all of you could be frank with her, and she could see how tedious and boring it is for all of you to listen to her "script" every time you get together. Broken records are difficult to listen to the 100th time, regardless of your long history with her, and empathy runs thin. I do hope your arm heals soon.
Lanette I like the Leonard Cohen saying very much. And yes, our garage organizer is a pistol.
Dana I do like that nook! Nice view! And I love the yoga picture of your princess.
KJ Oh, I love Joaquin! His expressions are priceless. What a wonderful little boy!
Michele 2 ideas for your door/kitty dilemma. 1) Scat mats. They have to be big enough so the kitty can't jump over a corner and escape. 2) Temporary screen door.
Machka Happy Anniversaries!
Joyce We got new windows a couple of years ago and we were ridiculously excited about them. We still love them. I know you are happy!

All you ladies in the Midwest from Texas up to the Great Lakes - I just saw the weather map and it looks like some powerful weather is coming through tonight and early morning. Hope everything is battened down and you all stay safe!
The storms at night are so scary!
I saw this picture yesterday.....almost Ansel Adams quality, isn't it? Very powerful image on many levels! Photo credit : Ricardo Da Cunha - he's an Australian landscape photographer. This photo was taken in Bolivia - isn't for sale
Karen in VA - that photo of Olivia and her dad is adorable!

We were watching a great two part TV drama and just as we started watching Part Two, Jake's daughter called. By the time he gets off the phone, it will be too late, so we'll have to wait til tomorrow to see how the hero gets out of jail.

seasonsofjoy – You’re quite welcome. Come often, tell us what you prefer to be called and a location (general of specific), family, children, grandchildren, married or whatever, hobbies so we can get to know you.
Lanette – Thanks! I will have to try to post something. That sort of sounds like something my DDnL#1’s mother makes. She takes flaky biscuits and pulls them off by layers and uses either condensed milk (or that ‘other’ canned milk product), and she might put some cinnamon and sugar in it. VERY rich; and, if you don’t get some the first time you go through the line; it won’t be there when you go back. My DMnL made a bread pudding that sort of had a cake-like or muffin-like consistency to it. The only place we’ve had anything close to it was in a restaurant near where my oldest sister lives. I can’t even remember the name of the restaurant.
Lanette and Barbie – My Mother was always knitting something; usually using 4 needles and two that were connected by a wire. It was amazing that once she got the pattern going she could watch TV at the same time. She also had the little plastic circles that she put on them for some reason. She made blankets for all 3 of us. I still have one; but, it has a huge hole in it where the boys (especially Will) would stick their fingers in the hole and twirl their fingers in it. I ‘hope’ that my DDnL#1 has put the others in my DOGD’s ‘hope chest’ along with the sweaters she knitted for her. We always had 3 or 4 knitted sweaters with pearl buttons growing up. Boy were they warm and very much envied. I have one plant on my porch that has something on it. Got to take care of it tomorrow because it hasn’t been there before.
Heather – Do you think maybe you friend keeps repeating stories because she thinks if she does, someone will asks her ‘what’s going on’? Maybe something is going on and she doesn’t think she has anybody she can go to. Or maybe she is just very insecure – you have always come across to me as a very bold woman who knew what she wanted and how to go about getting or doing it. Or maybe she’s like me, I ‘just’ forget … a lot. Quite a bit of my short-term memory bank is like Swiss cheese; but, I have very vivid memories of my childhood. I was happy then; I am happy now. I do ‘*kitten*’ or ‘vent’ a lot [unfortunately about my “D”DnL#1 – she is one of those types who thinks that you need to ‘kick @$$ and take names later – or find out the ‘rest of the story’ … later on. She doesn’t listen to anything I say; but, will come down to ‘talk’ (usually when I am least expecting it). I always have my ‘guard up’ with her; because she twists ‘everything’ I have to say. But, like I told her once; when 2 people tell the same story (almost verbatim); and, slants it to their favor – all that means is ‘one of them is lying’. She should never ‘expect’ for me to take sides in an ‘argument’ between my son and herself. I’ll tell my sons ‘if I think they are wrong’; but, they are adults and they can solve their issues in their families themselves.
Katla - My boss and the generosity of a ‘time bank’ kept me ‘employed’ for nearly a year before my SSD came through. I don’t think I ever without a check until I got my ‘disability check’. Granted it was only about 1/4th of what I brought home for the month; but, at least I had it to get. I also keep our ‘health insurance’ and it takes about ½ of my retirement check to keep it; but, we cannot afford to not to have it.
Barbie – My mother tried to teach all 3 of us how to knit, Mimi tried teaching us how to crochet. I can do needlepoint and cross-stitch; but the other two, I tense up and drop or gain stitches on every row.
Becca – We got a ‘new’ receiver for our DirecTV the other day. What a freaking circus; but after I calmed down, called again and it got ‘fixed’ in less than 2 minutes. I do pretty well at putting things together if I have a schematic and know what it ‘should’ look like when it is complete. If I had followed the directions when putting together my big easel; it would have NEVER worked. But, I do need to glue one part that fits into another part.
Talking about ‘movies’ … I saw on FB a video of a friend, went to church and Women’s Retreats with her. Has younger children (but; close to teenagers) and boy did she have a lot to say about that Movie “13 ways to try ??? (about suicide). Says you should NOT watch it with a child under the age of (probably) 18, not with them, not allow them to watch it at home or anywhere, and that you can talk to your child about all the issues brought up without having it graphically shown displayed before you. Even tells you ‘how to commit suicide’ by cutting your wrists. Apparently, there is a right and wrong way to cut your wrists and succeed. Suicide is a 'permanent solution to a temporary problem'. Sounds like a movie that I would put into “One Flew over the Coo Coo’s Nest” class with OFOTCCN - being a GP (for all ages). Believe me, I have seen my ‘share’ of Nurse Ratchet’s in my adult life. I’ve never been able to get past Jack Nicholson getting past the 2nd set of locking doors before I pull it out of the DVD player. I could not even read past the first book in a series of “Left Behind”; and, do not even want to try (that was before I became a Christian). IF this movie is a ‘series’ then Hollywood has gone to Hell in a freaking turbo-charged fruit basket if they ‘think’ that is entertainment. She was really upset about it. Said that she would have been embarrassed by a lot of it; but, the 'directions' of committing suicide was totally uncalled for.
NYKAREN – I am not sure I could watch someone else going through my ‘stuff’ and deciding what I should keep or give away or throw away. When I decide … it goes; but, not before. I have a lot of packed up boxes that I have not gone through; but, they will not be thrown out until I go through them. Just have to get DH to take them down from the rafters in my studio (once I get it cleared out). Everybody has been using it as their dumping ground. They don’t want ME to get in there and start throwing out stuff. LOL! There are some days that I really wish I could pick my house up by one corner and everything fall out the back door; then bring back in only the things I ‘know’ I want to keep. I laugh and say that Louis designed each room just so I could not play ‘musical furniture’. I’d move furniture from one room to another when that mood hit me … I now know why I did it; but, still … I miss doing it.
Karen in Virginia – Olivia looks ‘lovely and amazing’ … you would never guess she spend so much time in the NICU.

Did 1 hr on the rebounder. The plan for tomorrow is to do Cindy Witmarsh's Ultra Fat Burn DVD.
Denise wrote to me saying that she still wanted my rings. I wrote back that they're family heirlooms, not something you wear on the other hand as an afterthought. She said to me that she would switch them out with her rings, that they wouldn't just sit in a drawer. Well, I'm still hurt that Pete didn't give Denise what she's wanted ever since she could talk. And these aren't something that you wear sometimes and not others. I wouldn't be surprised if Pete's mother would mention how she's not wearing her ring (if I were to give her those rings). No, I'm not going to have that. What's done is done and can't be undone. Plus, even if he never mentions it, I'm sure it would hurt Pete if Denise weren't wearing the ring he bought her. I would never do that to them.
I did mail the hosts to her so she can show her priest and ask him if I can make them. According to our priest, it has to be made only of wheat flour and water. Yet, tonight at church I looked at the hosts and they were terribly white. Which leads me to think they are made of white wheat flour. Talk about processed! I used 100% whole wheat. Maybe her priest won't be so technical. Now when Vince and I got married, the mother of the priest who married us made a loaf of bread. You can't tell me that was just wheat flour and water!
Time for some frozen grapes, I feel a hot flash coming on. I swear, when that happens, sometimes I wish I could just crawl into the freezer.
Made these salsbury patties for dinner this week and some to freeze, then made a "litter box" cake for a friend of mine. Actually, it's a cake and another layer that is crumbled up (to be like the litter), then you take tootsie rolls, microwave them for 10 seconds so they get pliable and form them into "turds". You serve the cake with a litter scoop. She has 3 cats so I think she'll enjoy it. It's served in a litter box
It looks like it's really nice outside. I'm sad that I haven't and probably won't be able to go out. I should be getting ready for church in a bit. Spent most of the day cooking.
Mia - hoping for a shorter recovery time for you, too.
Nancy - your abbreviation is spot on
barbie - at what speed do you ride your bike while knitting? I rode mine some while listening to an audiobook. I think that's what I'll do some
Lenora - I know Vince has this "thing" about paying someone to do something he can do himself. But I really wish he'd get to things. We put out the umbrellas today but only because I initiated it. Same thing with pumping up my float. My ceramics are hung up on the pergola because I initiated it being done. Why does he procrastinate? I've been waiting for almost 4 years for him to put up the quarterround in my exercise room. Jessica hit my car (not bad) a few months ago, Vince said he'd fix it, guess what hasn't gotten done?
Becca - good for you setting up that VCR and fixing the blind. You're amazing
Karen in VA - I had never heard of a scat mat so I looked it up. Boy, it does look interesting. I would think we should get one, put it in the area where it will be before we have to leave the door open (so that they get used to not going there) then we can do the staining. That's yet another thing Vince needs to get to. And also extending the drain pipes in the front. That man! Sometimes! Olivia sure is one cutie. Her dad better watch out when she grows up!
There is a 6' table in my exercise room. I think 1/4 of it is exercise-related stuff. The rest is computer stuff and things that Vince needs to get to.

Hello all! I'm signing in and out early. Another wave of storms are coming thru. The lightning and thunder have been crazy. Staying away from the skylights and windows.
Nite!2 -
Hi! Lenora asked me to say some things about me, so,... here's my family, this was taken a year or so ago. Husband Matthew, two years ago took an early retirement buyout from Intel, he worked there 30 years. We both love to travel and went on 2 great 3 week trips last year: to Scandinavia, and the Canadian Rockies. He is a great cook, and volunteered to cook dinner every night because I did it 20+ years as a stay home mom. He is not that consistent, but he is trying!
Son Austin is 23, has been out of college a year, works as a Software Engineer. He is very much like me, likes organization, likes to know what to expect, planner, etc. We "get" each other and work well on projects together, and he can figure out how to make pretty much anything. He lives by himself in Phoenix, AZ, about 35 minutes from us, we live in Gilbert, a Phoenix suburb.
Kristen is 21 and will graduate from college in 2 weeks! Both kids went to University of Arizona in Tucson, about 90 minutes away. She will have her degree in Psychology, but decided not to pursue her Master's to become a counselor, after all. She is very artistic, (like me), and hopes to do something in the fashion industry. She is way into yoga and all natural, organic foods, cosmetics, etc., and loves to buy thrift shop clothes (especially from the 80's).
I have a degree in Home Ec Ed, and worked at Ethan Allen as an Interior Designer before quitting to stay home with the kids. I love: travel, gardening, and I have done all kinds of crafts. I have a shop on Etsy.com and I sell my ornaments (which look like gingerbread cookies but are not) and note cards from watercolor paintings, etc. I don't keep much in the shop until fall. I truly LOVE baking and have won awards at Cookie Con, and as a great honor was asked to do cookies for a page in a book for a Cookie Con a couple years ago (still cannot believe that!). I love to bake for friends and events. The really hard part has been going gluten-free, which helps me feel better with autoimmune Hashimotos and osteoarthritis. I have tried MANY gluten-free recipes and will continue to do so on a limited basis, as I know ME and if I remove too many foods all the time, I will totally give up and that's not good. I have fought my weight since age 12, when I did my first diet (Atkins), and I have yo-yo dieted my entire life. I lost 70 lbs. in 2010, in 6 months, on pre-packaged Medifast meals, and now that it's all back (plus 10 more gained on trips). Currently I am eating real food in small portions, and keeping track, changing habits, etc. I know what I need to do, but of course, it ain't easy! I should lose 100 lbs., but will be really happy with 50 to start! We leave for Alaska in 6 weeks, and I need to fit into my existing clothes, I will NOT buy the next size up!
My hubby and I did not have kids until our 30's, so most of my friends have grandkids already! I cannot wait!
I am loving learning about you gals on this forum and am truly thankful for the support!

Went to the annual Art in Bloom with a friend today. Had a wonderful time. Just what the doctor ordered.
The middle one was one of my favorites because we met the florist. She has only done this twice. Once twenty years ago and this year. Both times it was this work of art. The relief portrays a young woman who died at age twenty four. She research and made sure she used flower that would be blooming about the time the young woman died.

Hi Gals,
Been pushing to get everything done for a couple of weeks, but am beginning to get “even” which is good. I am exhausted though, today at the camp garden there is a boy scout that did his eagle scout project which was to build me an office! I used to just perch in a corner of a big building and now there are walls! But as I needed to be there for most of it, I ended up gardening for 7 hours! I am exhausted. The boy scouts bought me breakfast (chocolate frosted doughnut) Lunch a pesto turkey sandwich, and a snack a huge chocolate chunk cookie and I am not proud but the truth is I ate it all and savored every bite. I looked the cookie up and just the cookie is 440 calories – oh my!
Back to healthy eating tomorrow…

Michele – A new one I presume. LOL!!!!! Trey is so dark that they call him “TACO”; one of Jennifer’s friends made a cake to look like a taco. They had a big sombrero for him to wear. Got several things that had ‘taco’ on them … T-shirts, cozies, stuff like that. When he was in HS, he’d have girls come up to him and ask him ‘what are you, black, Hispanic, Indian’? It would make him mad and he scream at them … I’m WHITE!!!! They’d walk off and say, ‘well you don’t look white to us’.
The hosts at our church are sort of a grayish looking little wafer. The taste like Paper Mache; and, look like it, too. The color of wet, dirty newspaper or newsprint.
I have wanted quarter round put up above our kitchen cabinets, now that the house has settled. It only been 16 years. Actually, I want my kitchen cabinets painted, velvet white on top and a color on the bottom; but, at this point, the counter needs to be replaced so bad that one day I am going to go in there and the sink is going to be down in the lower cabinet. There is just so much caulk you can put in what is fast becoming a huge gap. After 16 years, and a few ‘loose’ pieces of subflooring squeaking every time we step on it … the floor needs to be replaced. But, for sure, it won’t be by the people who did it the first time. One of our neighbors ‘owned’ the company when we picked the flooring and carpeting out; but, sold the business before it was ready to put down. They put the linoleum down, then they ‘cut’ the carpet ‘on top of it’. So, we’ve had a cut about 15’ long right in front of the refrigerator. Our neighbor’s attitude was, ‘oh well, I don’t own the company any longer. I can’t make them do anything about it. I’m surprised they are still ‘in business’. I won’t buy anything else from them, for sure.
I’ve been waiting for about 2 months to get my car repaired; because of the 2 storms that came through Albany and the body shop has been backed up ever since. I am supposed to take it in a week from Monday; but, I am going to call and make sure they can finish it without having to rent a car. The first time I got into a wreck, they kept it over 6 weeks! We were really surprised that they did not total it; but, it had to be damaged by a certain %.
Louis was 35 when we had our first baby; I was 26 (actually lost a pregnancy in my 5th month due to a complication of the pregnancy) two years earlier. So both pregnancies after that were considered ‘high risk’ and I spent a week in the hospital with both of them; but, totally different insofar as the deliveries. I’m a young grandmother (Nana) because my son was only 19 when he and his 17-year-old girlfriend informed us they were expecting a baby. I was NOT happy at the time; but, my sweet, dear oldest granddaughter is my ‘heart’. She just turned 21 last month.
I am eating more ‘real’ food; but, in a lot smaller portions and not a big sweet eater. I still eat one of my chocolate protein bars at night with my coffee.
Thanks for the information. BTY, my first name is “Nancy”; but, I am called “Lenora”. Named for both great-grandmother’s (one on Daddy’s side; the other on my Mother’s). I am called by my paternal great-grandmother; my Mother ‘thought’ my grandmamma would be pleased. She wasn’t; she wanted them to name me Tallulah Autamia. I get the Tallulah, that is her name; but, where the Hell, did she come up with Autamia? I would have ‘run away’ if they had. LOL!
Margaret – I think my MD needs to order something like that for me. I love flowers; but, I don’t think my flower bed would be soft enough to weed. I watered it today; but, within 5 minutes it was dry again. Having to water my plants about 3x a week. If it is this hot now … good grief, I sure hope our A/C is working by August (hottest month of the year).
Dana – That storm looks awful! So my lightning strikes … something I love … a huge lightning and thunder storm. Our children/grandchildren usually come over, especially is tornado watches/warning are predicted; then I have to try calming my grandchildren down because their mother gets ‘hysterical’. Last time we had a bad storm here, I had gone to sleep. I sleep with a Cpap and did not wake up at all. I would have ‘if we had lost power’! They could not believe I had slept right through it. I got upset because they did NOT wake me up.

Just FYI ladies. When posting a pic, click on the icon that is the little landscape, not the icon that is the camera. Instead of a small picture "tab" you will get a lot of gobbledygook of numbers listed in the body of the posting. For me that is my take on how I don't get just the listings of what the pictures are that everyone has to click on to see, but the actual picture.

NY Karen - That is a gorgeous view!

Olivia looks like she knows she has her Daddy wrapped around her finger.
Paula - Please make sure to carve some time out for yourself in your upcoming busy week.

Hello again,
Lenora, (or Nancy!) how fun that we share the same name!
Just one more quick note to say that looking back at my post when telling about myself, I realized it sounds all "unicorns and rainbows", like I live a charmed life! I do try to look at the bright side of things, most of the time.
Right now, things are pretty good in my life, but I am all cleaned up in the picture- usually I run around the house in yoga pants and t-shirts from misc places (screen printed) and Crocs, because I like to be comfortable, and I have had foot problems since age 39. You don't reach this stage of life without some "messiness", and I won't bore you with all the details, but it feels like we have been through a lot of change in the past few years. The biggest was getting through my mom's health decline, all the ups and downs, and her passing 2 years ago now. My father-in-law passed the next month. My brother lived with my mom (in another state) and I was in charge of closing her affairs, and helping him (he is challenged a bit mentally).
I have had a smorgasbord of health issues over the past 15 years, and again I won't bore you, but it has been a challenge and there are still not concrete answers to explain or fix several things.
It has been a huge adjustment to have my husband retired and around the house. I do like him and like to spend time together, but I like my quiet time and he likes to talk and share everything,... that said he has also been a big help on some things!
That is all and hoping sleeping pill overtakes insomnia REAL soon!

I officially hit my 50 pound loss this morning - the equivalent of a small bale of hay...on my way to losing a two-month old horse. It really does make me wonder how I could have ignored the pounds all these years.
I had a great NSV yesterday. I drove into Geneva to meet a woman from the Czech Republic with whom I have played on an international internet trivia team for the last five years. It was amazing to meet her in person. We had a rendezvous at the cathedral in the old part of the city, up on the top of a really steep hill. She only knew her time schedule in the morning (she was accompanying a group of students), so I barely had time to get there. Because parking is almost nonexistant in the old city, I parked down below and rushed up. NSV: It did not kill me. Last year, I would have had to stop about every couple of minutes. This time, I made it in one go.
Becca: Congratulations on your son's scholarship! Loved your photos! You are one beautiful lady!
Pip: Hope you get the job! I am another early retiree here. I stopped working at 59. I took a cut in pension, but it was essential. My job had become very political and stressful. I had even started having some chest tightness, so knew it was time to get out. I have never looked back; definitely the best decision I ever made!
Nancy in Sunny Arizona: It sounds like you are making great food choices! What a beautiful family!
Karen in Virginia: Olivia is beautiful! It is hard to imagine that she was struggling for life just a few weeks ago.

Looking forward to reading about all of you. Thanks, again!
