June 1 - 2.3 miles
Total 2/20
Fairly new runner, so I am counting this as my first official "run". It was about 3/4 running and 1/4 walking. I am slow, and really could walk faster than I "ran", but I did the best I could. My other few times running was on a treadmill. Wow, is that so much easier than running in a hilly neighborhood. Seems all my running was uphill and my walking was downhill. Instead of running from markers, like stopsigns or turn in the road, I think I will download a C2K type app for next time.
I happened to look at my split time on map my run and mile 1 was 16:32 and mile 2 was 16:56, Not bad as a starting point, and I can only get better from here!!!

Accuweather has had it for a while, and NOAA won't have it for another few days, I think they only go out 10 days.... LOL
I don't post much but I read every post on the thread but wanted to say how much I'm enjoying reading about your prep work.
I'm getting excited for you. You'll nail it I'm sure!3 -

great start and welcome!!!
c25k works well for many, but so does running between targets. Whatever works well for you (I'm a c25k graduate who recently completed her first Half Marathon with another one booked)
as to being slower running than walking - that's fine - running is a gait not a speed. slower is best as it gets your body used to the running action, gets the lungs and heart, bones and muscles ready for more and more.
also - don't forget recovery!!2 -

What is it about running on the treadmill that makes my knees hurt? They don't bother me running on trails or the road. You would think that it would be the opposite...
(June miles to date) 3/150 (June goal miles)
@amymoreorless my orthopedic doctor calls the treadmill the devil, he said that same pace and exact same "terrain" is the worst.
That's why my PT banned me from the treadmill...They are the devil
Same here!
Just a short run to pick my car up from its annual service yesterday. The first time I've run in temps above 25C since my marathon (it was a heatwave in April) and now remembering why I get up at 5am to run in the summer
And another race added to the list... am running the White Cliffs Ragnar Relay as part of a team of 10. Can't wait!

Hi! I'd love to jump in on this! I am very new to running, so mileage isn't really on my radar. I'm just trying to get through training for a 10k! I'm currently on week 5 of a 13 week training plan. So i'm in for 3 days a week of running!9

Welcome @katie2400 ! If you just want to track days instead of miles, that's fine. You set a goal that means something to you. I have a mileage goal, but it's really a guess at how many miles I will run as I pursue my real goals. I don't stress out if I come in above or below the goal; that's more an indication of how well I predict the future than how well I meet a goal. I don't always predict the future very well.3 -
I am in. I want to increase my miles to be ready for my 10k on July 4. So, I am down for 2 to 3 miles a day, mostly on my treadmill. I also want to increase my intervals. I am 4 lbs from goal, and want to reach it by the end of the month.6

I'm in! I'll aim for 60 miles. I set myself a challenge of running at least one road race a month this year and that includes a half-marathon (I haven't run that distance for six years thanks to a non-running injury).

June Running
6/1 - 6.2 miles
5 -
Today's run was 21 miles, with the first 15 at an easy pace, followed by 5 at marathon pace on tired legs, and then the last mile back at easy to cool down. Plenty of stretching in the forecast for this morning, and my daily 3 mile walk at lunch should help keep things from tightening up (and any soreness at bay).
01 - 11.39
02 - 21.12
Total: 32.51 / 225 miles10 -
6/1- REST
6/2- 5.2 Miles
Total: 5.2
Goal for June. Finish Marathon training well, taper well and run Grandma's well
Nominal mileage goal: 100
Today's notes: 5 miles assigned today. Ran 5.2 at 9:23 pace for a little on the high end of E HR at 154, but right about where all my Friday runs have been. Assignment also included strides, but I cut those out, since coach told me that maximizing rest/recovery is a priority now. With tomorrow's 20 mile FFLR, I'm taking the advice.... I could have cut the run itself, but I felt good enough to just keep it going.
Tomorrow's FFLR has me excited/anxious, it will be 20 miles, with the last 6 miles at MP (9:00-9:12 set on my Garmin). It's set on a 20.9 mile loop, So I'll have a little walk to warm up and cool down too.
Have a runderful day all!

I have a question for you all... how do you budget for race fees, travel, etc?
I quit my job at the beginning of the year so money is tighter now than it was. When I was working I didn't have time to train or run races. Now I have time, but less money - lol. I think part of my problem is not only do I have to pay for the entry fee, but also a babysitter for my kids. So gets pretty expensive.
I had a friend that paid for local races and said it came out of her entertainment budget.5 -
6/1 - 4 miles
6/2 - Pre-race rest day. Ate some donuts for national donut day / carb load
6 -
6/1 - 8 miles (daily double: 3.5 & 4.5)
June Total: 8/140
608.85 miles/2,017 miles - goal for the year
Can't remember if I posted my race schedule on the June thread yet, so they're listed below.
Yesterday I needed 8 miles, but due to time constraints I had to split it up between my lunch break and after work. So, lunch was 3.5 and after work was 4.5. I also had zumba class last night, that my friend teaches. A couple of us had been trying to convince another friend to try the class, so my one friend and I said that if she showed up we would wear tutus. So yes, that means I got another use out of my Tinkerbell HM tutu last night!
Due to the fact that I pushed last week's long run to Monday instead of Sunday, this week has gotten kind of squished, and I'm going to end up running 5 days in a row (8 miles, 8 miles, 9 miles, 5 recovery miles, 13 mile long run). I'm a bit worried about getting worn out so I want to really make sure that I take today's and tomorrow's runs real easy (especially since I also have my most favoritest and quite intense zumba class tomorrow morning). I'm also taking myself for a foot massage at lunch today, because my feet and shins are just feeling tired and sore. Looking forward to that!
Happy Friday!!!

I've not done many races, but I would say the idea of taking it out of an 'entertainment budget' is a good one. I have a 'holiday account' and pay into this every month. From this comes all my holiday needs - travel, spending money, dance festivals and races. If the money isn't there, I can't go.
I also favour trails, and trail races tend to be cheaper than road races, as there aren't the added costs of closing roads. So for example a trail marathon a couple of hours from me is £37 to enter, then camping is another £10-£15 on top of that. I don't expect to get a race t-shirt out of that (bling yes). Shorter races are around £12 a go.

I keep my races local (i.e. no further than 30 miles from my house), so I only have gas and entry fees to pay for. The fees are usually around $20-$30 per race and like your friend, this counts as part of my entertainment budget.2 -
@Garygse - Fantastic long run. When is your marathon?
@MNLittleFinn -Good luck on your run tomorrow. You know by now how much I love the FFLR. You will crush it! And I think we are ALL getting excited for your first marathon!
@KatieJane83- Those are some serious miles you are putting in. And Zumba too? You are a beast!
June 1- 2.8 miles(first run back!)
June 2- 30 minutes swim + 30 minutes yoga
Well, I ran last night! First run in 6+ weeks and it wasn't pretty. My hamstrings have been feeling really good lately, so I think I half expected to go out there and pick up right where I left off like it was nothing. I planned an easy three miles of out and back on the flat, paved trail near my house, which would include walk breaks if I needed them. My husband came along and we decided we would take turns running and walking the dog. I headed out first, and within a quarter mile I could feel my hamstrings burning. I kept slowing down, but that made them feel actually more sore, so I just kept running at my most comfortable pace. After about 2 miles, they started to loosen up and I felt like I could keep going a while longer, but I knew that even 3 was probably more than I needed to do for my first run back. I ended up catching up to my husband and the dog at 2.83 miles, so I called it quits and took the dog. We walked an additional 1.5 miles with a few little sprints thrown in there for her benefit.
My average pace for my run was 9:09, which is pretty slow for me, but I guess it's to be expected. Gosh it sucks coming back from an injury! I did about 15 minutes of stretching when I got home and everything felt tight. I felt really tight this morning when I went for my swim. My swim felt like a bit of a struggle because my legs were not really keeping up their end of the bargain. I plan to do some yoga at lunch today and am hoping to go to group run in the morning. I know I won't be able to run with my usual gang, but it will be good to see everyone and I will also get to run with some new people, so I guess that's a win. I need to keep reminding myself that recovery is a slow and steady process. And I am thinking that September marathon that I was hoping to use for a faster BQ is likely not going to happen. Oh well, there will be others, right?
I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. Who is racing???
